25.09.2013 | 積分優惠

[Volume 8 Issue 9, #1794]
open your wallet or handbag, you will most likely find out that all your membership cards and discount cards add up to be so many more than your ID and financial cards.. it seems like everywhere we go buy things nowadays, we will probably (need to) use some kind of loyalty card for some extra perks, and even roadside stalls may have that mind you.. i suddenly have a thought about all these cards and points thingy, and a little curious about how different people view them.. imagine yourself queuing at the cashier ready to pay for your goods..
  1. if the person in front does not have a loyalty card, would you ask his or her favor to swipe your card so that you could earn some extra points??
  2. if the person in front does not have a loyalty card, would you offer to lend your card if cardholders are entitled to special discounts??
  3. if you do not have a loyalty card but the person behind has, would you offer to swipe his or her card so that the points are not wasted??
  4. if you do not have a loyalty card but the person behind has, would you borrow his or her card so that you are entitled to members-only special discounts??
how about myself then?? definitely it will be negative for all the four situations above.. because i am too shy to talk to a stranger, but actually more worry about the awkwardness if being declined, haha!! :D

But I've had people offering me to get my card swiped as they pay theirs. Good eh? :-P

Dang! I'm too lazy to bother if its strangers. But usually, I'd borrow friends cards if I know I'm going shopping to those places I don't have loyalty card.

I've asked friends to tag along to pay with their credit cards too because I don't have that one card that gives discounts at that particular shop. Most times, they don't mind. :-)

    1. hahaha.. seems like i have little chance of doing that, because i think i seem to have all the loyalty cards for the places i often patronized.. i think win win situation also lah if we know there's a discount and we invite the cardholder together, haha!! :D

      Delete
    2. I don't like to bring all my cards but usually, ended up wanting to go to places that I had left the loyalty cards behind. Adui

    3. I realised I am not a shopping queen like some aunties. i hardly swipe my Aeon card and regretted for paying card to join Watson!!!!! I kena sweet talked by that aggressive sales people at Watsons and Tesco but never used them as they are too thick to be kept in my wallet. The points accumulation by that hyper market is stupid and I could die laughing at my stupidity to sign up without doing the maths. The one who died laughing was none other than Letchumy la.

      Delete
    4. my wallet is too small to keep all the cards together.. i just bring along a few that i use more frequently, the others just campak inside my bag lah..

i got that Watson card because i cannot stand the ongoing nagging whenever i buy something from the shop!! and i thot, just take and let my ears rest from sufferings forever.. else, i wouldn't have paid RM12 for the card.. those free ones i don't mind applying if they offer good discounts..

      Delete
    2. yeah, i think i will likely do that if i know the person.. but to strangers, i don't think i will do that..

      Delete
    3. Now this got me thinking and I just discovered that my wife used her Popular Card the most monthly with huge & extra discount savings for teachers!!

As for me, I swiped the Borders discount card the most, also on monthly basis. Their card can be shared and just need to give out your ID card number. You mau ka Thambee??

      Delete
    4. ah, if you are going there often to buy things, i guess it makes sense to have the loyalty card to get big discounts.. but i don't buy books from Borders or Popular dei, even with discounts, never cheaper than BookXcess also, hahaha!! :D

      Delete
  8. When I dont have, normally the one behind or in front of me will offer.. few times I experienced.. but I never offer to others unless they want it.. cos they might reject me on the face.. then I might look very "tamak" like that..
But if got discount offers, i will offer to others if the person don't have.. like that, I dont look tamak but generous.. hahahaha...
So in conclusion, I dont do things to embarrass myself ... kiasu ma.. hahaha..

  9. Let it to me. I am so thick skinned! I have done it several times. I offered my goods purchased to be swiped for points by the customer in front of me who looked friendly enough. he bought just RM20+ but mine was over RM200+. He smiled broadly from ear to ear.

I have the loyalty member's card but I seldom carried it. You know lah, my wallet was full of plastic cards. I think I need 2 wallets in future.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Typo error above (Leave it to me)*

I only have 3 discount membership cards at the Borders Books, GNC and a Hair Shop. They just require my IC if I do not carry any plastic cards with me. I like their trust and convenience. Why can't others do the same?

      Delete
    2. Option A: If the buyer in front has goods purchased over a RM100, I would surely ask him/her to swipe my card and not be a fool to waste the points. I would cheekily offer a sweet to this buyer!

      Delete
    3. Option B: I would look at it as doing charity, so I will offer my card with discounts for that buyer. Hope the Choi San Yeh will bless me bountiful and abundant wealth the following year!

      Delete
    4. Option C: I think I would poke the guy behind and ask him/her to lend me the card! Why waste the points? What goes around will come around, right!!!

      Delete
    5. Option D: I will not bother to do it as I know I would get a negative stare instead! Better save my face if not kena maluation. Muahahahaha

    6. so anay is actually not a shy people to offer or to get help from, even from strangers.. thambee feel shy in the case of strangers, but if that's somebody i know, then another case lah..

A: i am always tempted to do that, but then never tried before..

B: i won't take the initiative to offer, but then if he/she asks for it, i would be more than happy to lend..

C: i won't do this also, unless he/she ask for the favor and i do not mind swiping for him/her..

D: haha, i will be very tempted to do this if i'm going to save money.. sometimes the cashier will also help to ask around to help customers save money too.. :)

      Delete
    7. D. Yes, seen that. If the cashier is nice and also the customer is nice too. If customer doesn't treat cashier nice and be friendly, don't think the cashier will want to ask around also. ;)

But if strangers may have to be careful a bit la coz sometime the the receipt print out will have personal information attached.

I like it if the store will put card num 12344xxxx . Meaning doesn't print the full card num nor cardholder name

    3. but then this doesn't make sense right?? if you are the one paying, then you are the one keeping the receipt right?? you just borrowed their card, so they won't know what you did correct or not?? or i didn't get what you mean??

There was once or twice the sales person swipe their friends family members card. I know not supposed to la . But hentam la. Win win. She gets the points I get the discount.

Many yrs ago when buying mooncake the sales person ask me to buy and if hv certain card can get extra discount. I told her I don't hv that card n she offered me hers or someone from ger family punya card.

  18. Option A: if the person in front does not have a loyalty card, would you ask his or her favor to swipe your card so that you could earn some extra points??

No to this one for the simple reason that I do not earn the points, thus the points are not due me.

If it's a big amount, I would ask but if it's small, I wouldn't make a fool of myself. :O

    3. Option D: if you do not have a loyalty card but the person behind has, would you borrow his or her card so that you are entitled to members-only special discounts??

Would not for the same reason as Option A.

    4. I once read that using another's loyalty card is a criminal offence. The article reported about someone facing a severe penalty for accumulating points from customers who did not have the loyalty card. This is an extreme case, of course.

But I would still lend my loyalty card if being asked. I once did that at a bookstore making the other person all smiles. She got a good discount from the books she bought. I was happy too being able to help.

    5. One loyalty programme that really makes me happy is the one issued by the dhoby. I get a 10% off after spending one hundred ringgit. Not a big sum, I know, but it saves me from ironing myself. :p

    6. A: always tempted to do that, but only just a thought.. too shy to take action..

B: i will not take initiative, but if they ask then i am more than happy to lend..

C: yeah, i won't offer that too unless they ask for the favor..

D: definitely not, as this would need a very "thick skin", i am too shy to do that..

oh, really?? there is such a terms in the membership rules and regulations?? but then in this Bolehland, who cares?? hahaha.. :p

I just told the cashiers I probably won;t shop at Watson again every time they push the card to me. LOL

BUt cannot blame them la. If they don;t ask, later kena marah by supervisor. Sudah masuk dalam SOP to greet customer when at cashier counter mah. Must follow wor.

    4. haha, i guess a lot of us just took the card because we can't stand all the nagging.. Mak Glam ada gut lah, just told them off.. but i also understand that's part of their job lah, so no harm to take one and my ears won't have to suffer every time..

  20. All the above four options, I think I will accept all. Means, I will lend people my card, I will also borrow people card. I don't mind at all, as long as that person is kind and polite enough to me.

The stupid Shell station's cashier near my old condo often swiped his own Bonus Link when the customers do not have this card. Can you imagine how many thousands of ringgit per day he manage to swipe for himself when customers all pumped over RM70-150 of petrol each time!!!!
