17.09.2013 | 回水竅門

[Volume 8 Issue 9, #1788]
i guess you don't find this type of vending machine unfamiliar, in fact what i wanted to share today is related to this particular type of machine.. one day i wanted to buy some drinks and inserted RM2 into the machine, what i wanted was really in stock yet the machine kept telling me it's sold out.. feeling puzzled, a man from behind told me that he saw the bottle stuck the sensor flap and hence the machine thought that drinks has sold out.. hence i decided that i want my money back, but no matter how i pressed the refund button, nothing seemed to happen!! while i was pretty @#$%^&*, the man once again told me there is actually a trick to get my money back, but how?? just choose any one empty row (which drinks has really run out of stock), when the machine sensed that it grabbed nothing for me, it really returned me my RM2 automatically!! how lucky i was to bump into this "genius" when i was almost giving up!! i suspected he might be the brain behind the design of this machine, but looking at his telco uniform he doesn't look like one.. or perhaps he has been cheated a lot of times and finally he found the trick and wanted to help others.. let me also do the same and take this opportunity to share the trick, hope it's helpful~ :p

  1. Helpful tip. Thanks. Did you notice, these days these vending machines are set up with an entertainment element? The process is rather fascinating to watch.

  2. I don't mind machines but I do prefer the "human touch"...never mind drink vending machines, atms...or bill payment booths.

    1. but when you find out this machine sells a can of drinks at only RM1 compared to RM1.50 at supermarket or RM2 at convenient shops, you will want to choose these cold robots~~ :D

    2. eh cheaper than over the counter meh? I thought usually more expensive than supermarket. Next time will look out for it instead of going over the counter then.

    3. mostly in LRT stations lah.. you know the convenience shop selling at close to RM2 a can, but next to the shop stood this vending machine selling at RM1 a can or RM2 a bottle only.. yalah, no need to hire people to jaga, so can cut the price mah~~ i always like to buy Gatorade from the machine, cheaper than supermarkets..

  6. Some vending machines sell drinks at a cheaper rate, like the ones in Ikea.

But sometimes, to buy those cheaper-than-the-store drinks, have to suffer kena "bully" by the machine. LOL

    1. yes, there are two types of vending machines that sell canned drinks at RM1 and bottled drinks at RM2, which are probably about 30% cheaper than elsewhere.. one is the blue one, another is the orange one, apparently both product from the same company lah.. but so far *touchwood* i have not been bullied before, except this time but i was lucky to have this gentleman to help..

    2. dies this old cat doesnt know vending machine drinks is cheaper than the store. I thought terbalik is true.

Have not been buying drinks from vending machine for long time. Last time i remember very leceh coz have to have exact change eg rm1.50 or rm1.80. Means have to carry coins around. If give rm2, sometimes the machine wont give back 20 sen . This auntie kedekut la

      Delete
    3. yes, it was more expensive but i don't know why recently popped out this type of machine selling at RM1 a can or RM2 a bottle only.. also no need to hunt up and down for coins lah, the machines accept RM1 notes now..

  7. Remember way back in the late 90s & early 2000, there's an option to purchase a drink by using your phone? Payment gets charged to your phone bill. I tried a few times, sometimes I got my drinks, sometimes I donated to Coca-cola only. :|

    1. ah yes, i remember that, but i have not tried that before lah.. after i owned my very first mobile phone, it seemed like there was no more such feature.. anyway, that actually sort of gave me an idea for my business proposal assignment, haha~~ :D

    2. Whoah! Business proposal assignement?

for the MBA dulul ke or onwards to PhD?

      Delete
    3. the MBA dulu lah.. mana ada PhD?? haha.. i was doing an assignment on breakfast vending machines, then pay by SMS.. haha!!

still dont really trust these mobile purchase la.

ya lor what biz proposal ah? I thought your MBA completed last year? still ongoing ka?

    5. actually i think this is a good idea and very convenient, no need to dig for coins and small notes.. but how trustworthy and reliable is the linkage between the telco company and the drinks company we don't know lah.. ya lah, that one was dulu dulu MBA assignments lah.. :D

    1. I normally bring my own water bottle so I don't get drinks from elsewhere. That can save some money. :)

      Delete
    2. Actually we don't even know if the can drinks are expired. Anyway, when you have no choice and thirsty, you surely need to use the machine which is rather convenient.

      Delete
    3. i don't usually get drinks outside unless i am super thirsty, and this machine offers good deal at RM1 per can of drinks, haha!! cool idea of bringing your own bottle of water with you, healthy and also guaranteed hygienic.. :)

      Delete
  11. The vending machines must have cheated everyone at least once! For every frustrating curses hurled at the machines, the owner gets bad karma. ..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Quite agree to your words of wisdom about curses and bad karma. BTW who gets the bad karma here, the technician or the owner? Perhaps both?

      Delete
    2. i would certainly agree with your statement, and i am pretty sure the vending machines sure have malfunctioned before and cheated the users' money.. well, but i think it's not the owner's intention..

      Delete
    3. During my schoold days they have vending machine in school. But not the can drinks but cup ones.

kena "cheated" by the machine quite a number of times. If not mstaken last time a cup of milo or carbonated drink was 50 sen or 60 sen. I put money into it and if bad luck, instead of milo, water will come out. That time still young and dumb. Doesnt know to complaint. But even if complaint also not sure go to who....the canteen or what. Not sure is it canteen who is responsible for it

    4. orh those machines ah?? very old type one lah, now still have ah?? maybe not no more lah, because the students now all very kaya, they go starbucks mana mahu drinks from machines?? haha.. i also hate those types of machines lah, many times kena cheated one..

  12. The only time I lived on vending machines was during my days living at the boarding school at Point Park College which housed hundreds of students. Almost everyday I bought a pack of Marlboro from the machines at no extra cost. Their machines never broke down!

Only those vending canned drinks had problems. Sigh!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i actually quite enjoy buying things from the vending machines.. to me, the channel is not important, what's more important is the price!! whichever is cheaper, i will chose that, simple~~ :D

      Delete
    2. Agree with SK!

If at places where buying at shops kena charge GST and vending machines don't, it makes perfect sense to buy at the machines t save money.

      True or not?

      Delete
    3. definitely i won't buy canned drinks at places kena charge GST lah.. even supermarket also more expensive, so why not those vending machines?? the machines don't need to pay salary to cashiers, so can be cheaper mah~~ :p

      Delete
    4. what do you mean by "machines at no extra cost". I don't understand. Means GST ka? sorry ah...me dumb dumb a bit

But not everywhere have vending machine mah. Mostly around LRT station right?

      Delete
    5. yalah, machines don't charge you service or tax mah.. and somemore machines no need to pay salary to staffs, so should be cheaper lah.. yeah, you go to LRT stations or train stations, sure got one or two.. and those are RM1 = 1 tin tau?? very cheap~~

    1. Well, I don't usually buy drinks/snacks from local vending machines, cause I think those are easily available at 7-11 or kedai runcit. Save the trouble to get notes/coins and also can avoid from bugs like the one you experienced.

      Delete
    2. But if I am oversea, I won't mind trying to buy things from their vending machines la, cause surely got different brands/snacks ma! ;)

      Delete
    3. I think local vending machines have bugs like this one.. Very 'lao yah'...
But you are so lucky leh! You bumped into someone who knows the tricks! Luckily you got back your money (though it's only RM 2 but you can take that and buy drinks from 7-11 already, did you?)

      Delete
    4. Anyway, will remember this trick, if happens to me next time (or my friends), will try this method to get back the money.
But is it the same for other types of vending machines?

      Delete
    5. you are very true!! vending machines here seem like 靠不住 lah, the chances of you being cheated money is high, haha!! but then i'm actually fine with machines, whichever place is cheaper then i will buy from there be it machine, shops or supermarket..

yeah, i was really lucky.. but remember this trick is only applicable to this type of machine.. and if there is at least one empty row.. else, you just have to choose another type of drinks.. :p

      Delete
    6. 7-eleven quite mahal leh the drinks.

But I agree with Hayley. Most time i buy from shop coz i malas wanna korek coin. I bet J would enjoy "playing" with the machine. Buying from that LOL

      Delete
    7. yalah, the convenience shop sure more expensive lah, i also avoid buying drinks from them.. there was one time i bought a can of drinks at a convenience shop at RM1.60, then i baru saw this vending machine right next to the shop selling at RM1.00!! KNS~~
