early this month i blogged about my primary school results and a blogger challenged me to show my high school results.. given back then, results were treated with strict confidence and no one could ever see each other's results if not given the permission.. well, it's a gazillion years since i graduated from high school, no harm to share my results now really, it's indeed just sharing some good childhood memories i'll rather say, that is why i still keep the record book perfectly.. though not as outstanding as my primary school results and yet showing signs of getting worse, at least i did not fail any subject (passing mark was 60).. the worst i realized was 63 for music, i remember it was rated on singing skills, hehe!! in such a school with high academic standards, i would say that was rather good!! the marks besides the exams, took accounts of homework and tests as well, hence we really had to work hard all the time back then.. calculation of the final score was also based on a complex method, also any late to school or leave would caused marks deducted directly from the final score based on the number of periods, failing to achieve 60 and students were detained to repeat the same year again!! lucky was that i completed each year successfully and promoted to the next, else i would have been one of the old students in school~~ BTW, i still keep my college and university results, anyone interested?? haha :D

    3. LOL! I was thinking the same. What happened in F5? Too much distraction from too many excursions to Gentings and such? :p

Chinese school standard is anytime higher than the national type school and you had very good grades too.

      Delete
    4. yeah, i was a bit lagging behind in F5 while everyone strives for better results, that's why a drastic drop to 25 and final score less than 80!! boohooo~~

actually it was quite normal to score less as we advanced to higher grades lah.. things were getting more complicated~~ :D

    2. Tomorrow is open day at my son's school.

Must go, see his results, talk with teachers and stuff.

Different from what I experienced when I was in school as my parents never need to visit my school one. :-D

    3. me too...my mom tarak visit school...report cards day usually i go school just kaypoh here and there....my report card usually take the next monday.

    4. When I was in secondary school, my transcript were sent to home.

So my parents no need to travel a few hundred km to see my teachers.

The perks of staying at boarding school. HAHAHA

      Delete
    5. oh today is open day at school for parents to go pick up the report cards?? nah, last time we just gathered out of classroom blocks, eg: in canteen or basketball courts, to get our report cards.. there was a rational of doing that outside classroom, rumors said that this is to prevent unhappy students vandalizing and damaging anything in the classroom.. being in more public areas get monitored easily by the school authority.. this was my high school, weird huh?? :D

    6. Wah! Your school banyak samseng ah?

      It's ok like that.

      My school... No p&c.

Results are displayed on school board so you know exactly where you stand amongst your friends.
Meet teachers just tp get the results chit.

Cannot tipu parents also as results transcripts are sent to them. O.O

    7. haha, i think so lah cos my school is big so have to take every precaution lah, especially those that were required to repeat the year.. aiyoh, results all publicly announced one ah?? like that very stressful also kan??

  3. exam result treated as private and confidential? Hmmm... my school different leh...we compared result ...see who got the highest marks and vice versa.

But i guess different school different practice la.

our passing marks was 50 only.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Same here, results are not private, so that we can compared and work harder to improve.

Erm if I am not mistaken, we focus more on grades (A,B,C etc) rather than marks...

      Delete
    2. my side not ABC...mine was marks...usually compete for higher marks LOL...but me dumb dumb one...usually just ngum ngum pass already very happy

      Delete
    3. yes, the marks are always kept private and confidential between classmates lah.. actually our final exam papers were not given back to us, and we would not know what scores we have.. to prevent students from playing cheat on the paper and marks.. so we would only roughly know how well we did when we get the report card..

and i remember during exam time, students of one class were split into two batches, and each batch were arranged to share classroom with class of different grades (eg: F1 and F5).. and the seating plan was also arranged in alternate patterns, so around you are all students from other grades, you classmates are always not sitting next to you.. this is how the school prevent cheating during exams..

  4. music also have marks ka? Chinese school really different from the kebangsaan lor. No only in the sense of language but in marking scheme. Higher standard.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah, and i hate music subject!! if the exams were based on theory then at least everyone stood an equal chance to score high marks.. but when it comes to talents like playing musical instruments and especially singing, it's rather unfair for some people.. and F1 and F2 many guys started to have crooked voice because of going into adolescence mah.. that was why i got low marks for music then!! cis~~

      Delete
  5. moe kau chor ah.... late to school or leave would caused marks deducted directly from the final score ???

Pengsan lor if like that...means if late for music class or certainb class then cikgu will deduct marks ah...

Not only kesian the murid but the cikgu also have a lot of things to keep track lor.

Means year end cikgu will have to tally the deducted marks of every students and minus from the grand total.

Hahahah that is where you get the idea of The N score D score in your chats ah? :p

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah, late to school or any leave (sick leave or personal leave)!! and based on the number of periods not just by day.. if not mistaken late to school was 0.001 per period, personal leave was 0.01 per period, sick leave was 0.001 per period.. that's why you see i kena potong markah lah, i think because of late to school and leave occasionally only!! so last time, even sick also die die must go to school one..

  6. when schooling that time I really didnt think of how much work the teachers have to do.

Used to think aiyo this teacher give so mjch homework...write and buat karangan till hand also pain.

Then exam time have to perah otak to come out with the answer.

After exam feel as light as a feather.

when got the result we would happily compared marks. I still rememeber during primary school sometimes cikgu marked wrongly. when compare exam paper and we sometimes discovered both friend ticked answer A, but one was marked wrong and another was marked coreect. Then we would debate to confront the teacher or not. Sometimes will get extra marks but sometimes get deducted coz the answser was wrong.

I guess the teacher marking the paper also tired jor la marking so many exam paper.

My time was about 45 pupils a class...just imagine 6 classes....die lor...pity the teacher also la

    2. my school was big about close to 5000 students, and because we don't have enough classroom, so we have to cramp the students together into one class.. so average there are about 60 in junior grades, and about 50 in senior grades..

home work and test papers were all marked and returned to the students.. but the final exams papers were not returned, so we cannot check how well we did and if there was any mistake or discrepancy.. so just have to take it lah when we get the report card on the last day of school before holiday.. results are final and no appeal allowed!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. the deduction goes by the number of periods you were late to school or took leave.. i think i took a day sick leave, and we have 9 periods a day.. so kena deducted 9x0.001 marks from the final score.. and that's enough to affect your position in the class..

Oh there's another deduction of 0.009. How they calculate this? Each school has their own way to judge the student both in acedemic and practical.

    14. nothing to be ashamed of lah, good or bad, the results are still part of our growing up memories right?? i always think we shall not be embarrassed about our childhood, but to have fun with others sharing it.. :)

is it?? students now have less subjects to learn?? i thought they have more.. and even less subjects at school, i am sure they have to spend more time learning other skills at talent centres and also tuition centres too!! how poor kids are nowadays..

my UPSR level English also not good lah, but i don't feel ashamed to show my England to others lah.. we are open to learn and that's what make the learning process fun.. that's why all must send me nice nice Doraemon Cakes~~ :D

here the passing grade will be 75
half of my schooling years it was easy to surpass
such grade but on my highschool days
grading system was changed it is "what you got is what you get" grading system haha

    1. a passing grade of 75 is really very high standard!! i guess in the University standard that is already a first class degree!! hahaha.. my school sets a higher passing rate at 60, other schools i guess just around 40-50..

  23. i can't really understand your report card for
we have different cards haha, unfortunately
I have lost most of my cards, i put it all on an
envelope cause i believe it was safer together but
what happened is the envelope itself was gone and so my cards huhuhu

I gauged my success based on my own happiness level.

All the money in the world won't mean a thing if I am not happy.

But of course, money helps to make one happy.

      How's that? xD

  29. SK, I see you maintaining the position top 15 in your class. Your average points were above 75%. You considered a very good student.

I always proud of my academy result, though I don't really have very good achievement now.

I am one of the top students in my secondary, primary and university.

Especially when I was in my primary school. I could be considered as one of the elite.

wow, Yan has been the top elite student during her schooldays!! same thing here lah, i was one of the elite during primary school, later in high school becomes just ordinary one.. in college and uni just a plain student.. finally at work, aih, just a employee lor..

i definitely agree with your on how disciplined and determined you are on your fitness routines!! kudos!! and keep it up~~ :)

    3. well, now that studies are both your princesses' "career" so they really have to have good academic achievements, agree?? and of course, besides good academic results, the attitude and behavior is more important elements to bring up the kids.. this i have no doubt Mak Yannie has been doing so good.. :)
