  1. Wah, which bank is this? So bad, force customers to use a card with higher annual fee. I know of a bank who waived my annual fee every year without fail when I call them but last year they just refuse to waive the fee although I use the card regularly so I cancel the card immediately and applied for a new card with no annual fee. Hopefully this bank will not be like that, refuse to waive your fee when you call them.

Good that you cut the old card into many pieces and throw them into separate bins. Better still, cut them into smaller pieces or totally smashed up the chip and scratched the magnetic strip.

We all miss your reply to our comments.

Chris... SK doing it this way good mar. Fair to everyone. Everyone has a chance to be FC too.

    1. Many times I wished that I have no credit cards as you know lah. All the interests accumulated for not paying all the full sum. However, these days cannot do without credit cards as I need to book flights and hotel rooms besides using them in overseas to minimize using the foreign currency notes. Many times I brought back lots of foreign currencies which became useless and the money changer refused to take them back as they don't keep loose changes. So I learnt from there.

    2. If possible, try not to use credit cards for easy management of your funds but its good to carry one or two for convenience sake. This is in case you do not have enough cash or needed to purchase goods from online. it can be handy too!

      Delete
    3. But credit cards are useful when we buy expensive items in installments, they charge zero interest rate if you pay by credit cards

      Delete
    4. Oh yes, I agree that it is definitely worth buying ZERO interest installment products as it won't be a pain in our pockets. The whole gimmick is that the banks want to be assured that you won;t be able to jump to other banks for at least 1-2 years!

  3. That reminds me...

  6. I tell you, these days ah, platinum pun got no standard. Unless if you are applying for a platinum card at entry level, then that one require you to have a big annual income. Other than that, just wait for an upgrade, it will come sooner or later.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Last time I used to think that Platinum card is like so special and so prestigious. Then when I got upgraded, I realized that it is just to make me feel good lah. In fact the credit limit was only RM20K. Where got platinum standard like that?

      Delete
    2. But it depends lah on which bank. Some platinum betul-betul give higher credit limit. Minimum I think RM100K which is berpatutan lah for platinum punya standard.

      Delete
    3. I used to have a platinum card from a certain bank but the annual fee was quite high. Every year, I had to call them to request for a waiver. They will pack a condition - I must charge at least RM100.00 that month before granting the waiver. Cheh! hee..hee..

      Delete
    4. Then one year, I got fed up and wrote to them to cancel the card. The customer rep called and offered me to take back my card for a 6 year fee waiver. So of course I accepted. But the following year, they still charged me annual fee. Cheh!

      Delete
    5. I had to call them again and this time they were so lan si. Told me that they have to submit an application first and I had to wait for one week. When I called up to follow up, told me that decision not made yet. So you know lah, I karate chop the card.

      Delete
    6. To cut the long story short, they offered me again to take back my card which I did. The best part was, when my card was near expiry, I got a letter telling me that my card was on the way. I never received the card and when I called customer service, there was no option on their menu for me to speak with someone about my problem.

      Delete
    7. In the end, I selected "Report Lost Card" as a last resort. I found out that my card was issued but they couldn't tell me if it was sent out or whatever. That really pissed me off and I told the customer rep to cancel the card.

      Delete
    8. Subsequently, I received an email from the bank asking me to call their customer service to arrange for re-issuance of the card. No lah, I had enough. I wrote back to tell them that I don't wish to renew the card. With this kind of service, I really would not want to go back to them.

      Delete
    9. Eh, I am like you also lah. I cut up my expired card into small pieces, making sure I cut through the chip. And then I dispose the pieces at different locations too, some in the office and some at home hah...hah....

    1. Erm, actually from the CC itself, I think I know which bank is this. This bank currently having massive changes in their policy and processing no matter related to CC or other services provided by them. No doubt it is the International banking mar.

    2. Received via SMS mentioning that your card which is one more year to be expired going to be expired so early in Apr 2016. That shows that they are urgently wanted to swift your existing card to a new card with immediate effect. But hor, can they called up to let you know, since you are one of their valued customer?

      Delete
    3. You must be very happy receiving this letter saying that you have been upgraded to a Platinum Card leh. Anyway did you request for this? They address you as valued customer not even your name hor.. That means they are not only upgrading you but for the rest also lor.. No special lar like that suddenly make you so happy to received it. So do you still want to continue to have this card then you should need to be upgraded as required by them lor.

      Delete
    4. From Gold to Platinum sounds so grand. Really appreciate that they had upgraded you to this level hor. For me I will feel proud and happy too if all the services and fees remain the same or annual waive.

      Delete
    5. Ooh after realizing what you mentioned and with photos shown above, it is just the same card GOLD = PLATINUM, name and color of the card changed only. Really make people feel happy for a short period of time only.

      Delete
    6. Credit limit still the same. Never mind lar, something to save your pocket from over spending.

      Delete
    7. Moreover giving them the valid reason to charge you a higher fee. No good neh. RM254.40 is inclusive of 6% GST some more. We can claim or not? Another burden cost of extra RM14.40 need to pay them. I think they will automatically charge to your credit card bill.

      Delete
    8. One thing I like is, you cut your credit card into so many pieces and throw into different dustbins in different places some more. Very high security leh. Good idea.

    9. I think you still have other CC as well besides this right? I don't think this bank CC will offer you free movie tickets am I right? But this CC provides extra shopping discounts in most of the shopping outlets.

Myself only own a Visa CC from MBank and hubby sub a Platinum Master card from MBank too, this one for emergency use lor. I seldom swap using his unless really need to use it. hahaha...

CC is a need if you're travelling oversea. At least to have one CC to "pong san"

    10. It is almost compulsory in some overseas countries that we have to use credit cards on certain trades like car rentals and some hotel deposits which could ask for ridiculous deposits when we happen to carry limited foreign currency. I have been caught off guard few times on this deposit using my foreign currency leaving me in dilemma to shop or eat at places where they don;t use credit cards.

Next issue is that I have to carry at least 2-3 credit cards as I had bad experience when the online banking went haywire or the bank's system was down in Malaysia and I was stranded with payments in Taipei and Chengdu. I had to try other cards and finally the 3rd card was safe & passed through. I had cold sweats!!!

      Delete
    11. I reckon with you TM about CC, It is not good idea not to have a CC when we travel overseas. At least must have one. For SK case, the CC offered from H***Bank gives them the best privilege during his overseas travel, so better remains the card lor... now got better name too - Platinum.

I think in Malaysia also the same lar... whenever we check in hotel they will usually ask whether we are paying cash or by CC. If you pay by CC which I think is more convenient. They just take the CC to verify and confirmed this is the card and once we check out they only will deduct from the CC. If we pay by cash, usually we need to pay another extra 1 day of the deposit. Which I think it involves money, so we need to pay more even though we will get back the same money from the deposit soon or later. There is always the good side if got CC to "pong san". Another thing is with CC we do not need to keep so much money in our pocket.

Yes, you are right again TM. Once a while got CC reader got system issue and line busy... this card cannot use, need to use another card lor. Especially we used during festive season, sales time... a lot of people using mar. For normal circumstances, Bank Negara only allowed 2 CC for each individual (new applicants).

Both cash and CC also important 50-50.

Nowadays platinum card is very 泛滥 already. Your annual income just need 60k then you are qualified for most of those platinum cards already. Got lah, got benefits, but those benefits unrelated to us one, those "get a free Tag Heuer with RM 1 mill/annum spending" or "get free 1 night stay in xxx hotel when you book Business Class flight" zzz...

The platinum card(s) I using now, I selected the one with "annual fee waived for life" feature, from AprilBank.

  13. Photo#1: It is weird that you received the sms without knowing that you had a new card. The banks are getting desperate and innovative these days. Even their promoters at the shopping malls are using new tactics to attract shoppers such as Free Luggage and other items.

Every month I receive sms notice to submit payment for one Credit Card which is not even mine!! They could be so careless to sms wrong card user every month! When I read the sms reminder that hounded the user to remit payment of minimum over RM1000, my jaws dropped! That guy must be a high limit card holder and big spender. I wonder how I could stop all the sms and emails from the banks as there is no way I could unsubscribe them as long as I am a user. So cunning banks.

Now I also have problems with iProperty who sends me daily junk emails and there is no way I could unsubscribe them!!! I could not even reply their email. So scary!

    1. I think that's common everywhere for banks, even in Singapore. They will just sent me the card and if I doesn't want it, just destroy it and don't activate it.

Of late, a bank in SG even sent me a cheque and said I can bank in to withdraw the funds. However, that's actually a cash loan gimmick and you gotta repaid back according to their interest rates. I destroyed the cheque.

      Delete
    2. This is really something new to me to hear that banks would simply send you a card without having your application and signature! That is too simple and dangerous!

If they send me a cheque, I would cash it right away and go for holidays! I hope the cheque amount would be RM2.6 billion. Yooohoo!!! Muahahaha

      Delete
    3. Photo#3: It is getting too easy to get a platinum card now. I am shaking my heads left and right in disbelief. It was so tough to apply when it was newly launched. However I won't pay for their annual fees as they had promised but they still sent me bills. I had to call them to protest and get the annual fees waived.

      Delete
    4. Photo#4: This is another surprise to hear that Platinum Cards have this ordinary class thing. Haiks! This sounds like nonsense from them. Probably that silly bank themselves wanna create a new image branding and create new & higher limits for some cards. I think there is this Palladium Cards that is like a Platinum combined with Visa and Charge cards! Never heard of this in our Bolehland yet.

      Delete
    5. Photo#5: Where on earth did you hear that credit cards do not have credit limits! Even Rose-Mamah has to carry one with limits otherwise she would buy the whole Hermes Factory! I am surprised your new Platinum and old Gold card have same credit limits! That is funny, only card colour difference but not the limits.

I used to crack my head to hear about the no-ending most exclusive credit cards in the world. I used to think Platinum was highest until I heard more poshy ones like INFINITE. Then came ROYALE, followed by BLACK CARDS and now CENTURION! This lastest one CENTURION is by invitation only and even with money, that fellow cannot apply! They want to make it so exclusive and classy that Jibby with tainted $$ cannot apply lah. Simple!

      Delete
    6. Photo#6: Yeah nothing so exclusive and glamorous for having to pay the extra RM100!! they just staged a bank robbery right under your nose. You can just call them up and share your brilliant mind to threaten to snip off another card and throw in many dustbins around the country unless they WAIVE the fees.

      Delete
    7. Photo#7: OMG! This SK Thambee is really kiasu, kiasi and siao to snip them up into pieces before dumping in different places. Why don't you just put inside the office's paper shredder and press the maximum level to shred the plastic into noodles before pouring acid over the shredded card? Tambah lagi, you can throw the melted card into the sea off Port Klang. Muahahaha

This is the first time I hear a kiasi man snipping his card this way. He is my Thambee pula.

Usually the banks will send in a new credit card for those who are expiring , and from my experiences, that could be months away before the expiry date. Strange that your bank is so aggressive and sent you a new card 1 year earlier. Perhaps could it be a promotion of the new card, as well as they wanted to decommission the existing card?

It did mention in your SMS that it will be deactivated on so and so date, thus, I guess they likely discontinued the used of the old card due to some reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Picture B

woah. congrats...hahhaha..! What bank is it? I also felt insecure if my bank didn't address me by name. After all, I am a customer of the bank, thus they should know my name and other details.

It seems to me this was done in a rush and they probably save time and troubles by just addressing you guys with a generic title, as valued customers. hahaha..

I got a feeling they either want to decommission the old card or try to push out the new platinum card as a promotion for existing users.

I also used to receive such new cards but most of the time, I will reject it and cut it into half, as advised by them if we doesn't want it. I don't need another card unless it's different from what I have, like different bonus points or cash rebates.

So, they intending to upgrade you, based on your past purchases? I remember there was once they increased my credit limits after some years, knowing I will likely earn more than what I was when I applied for the card. More like an upgrade huh? Any new freebies or good stuffs?

I understand the Malaysian Govt charge some levy on credit cards. So, with this new platinum card, would the levy be higher? Once I applied for a card from a bank and they gave me some sort of gold card. I was also charged RM50 for this card, besides the bank's annual fees. I decided to terminate it and use my SG card instead, which is free.

hhahaha... So, it was just an ordinary card. Perhaps, like what I said earlier, they just want to decommission your old card and replaced it with a new card for some reasons. Everything the same, just that they want to stop the old card.

Maybe there are added security features to this new card ? It happens to me before where the bank started using chips then and ask us to get the new cards, which is more secured.

  19. Picture E

hahaha..So, the card has the same features la, except different design and color. I am right in my observations so far! Perhaps they wanted to keep the Gold color for very 'atas' cards ...LOL.

OK la, got new card and same features, nothing changes. Just destroy the old card and use the new card lor. Maybe it is more secured as well as it is new, no need for you to replace the old card in case there's crack at the edges. Somehow, my cards always crack here and there, thanks to my 'gentleness'.

Well, there was a case long ago where I shop at a fake site. It was not a branded good but considered ok la. The discounts was great and my wife asked me to get the goods for her. After the transaction, I realised I got cheated , not much anyway, just $20 but I decided to terminate my card and request for a new one.

Oh, so it's all cleared now. Not because they want to secured the card but desperately, find a reason to earn more money for the bank by charging RM100 extra. That's a lot! And, imagine the no. of cards they issued, they probably get a windfall if all the credit card users paid the fees. Almost similar to G$T....wow...they really learnt from the garment and earn extra bonus!!

So, are you taking up the card? I haven't click on the next pic. in SG, at least for my bank, I just need to call and enter the telephony codes to waive off the annual fee.

  26. By the way, sidetrack a bit, I was looking at the bloggers chart, how come overall (Jan to Feb 2016) and blogger of the year are different, I thought they refer to the same thing

    1. Read SK's instructions la. It's very comprehensive and all rules and regulation are there. Btw, I also dunno ... muahahaha

    2. Yes we need to read his detailed chart which has so many more terms and conditions than the bank's loan agreement when buying a million dollar condominium! Muahahahaha

Jokes aside, we used to ask him this similar questions many years ago and we have all been thoroughly explained time & again until well understood. The chart is too detailed with breakdown counts that would place the bloggers in different categories of excellence. Example FC, Monthly Winner, Yearly Winners and Blogger Of The Year (Overall).

At the beginning, I was quite sour and confused as I was merely spamming for fun and was leading to no where! Later other bloggers started to alert and highlight that we have to comment relevant topics very strictly with sufficient sentences to be counted. Example - We cannot even say "Hi. Good morning. I love this".... This is not good enough lah. We need to add grandma tales like how Small Kucing earned her "Nenek Kebayan" title from me, of course as she could be so long winded naturally, yet earned valid & valued points.

Other good comments are from Angeline and Chris who are all very expert in leaving relevant comments which I am still far behind as I am too used to rant nonsense...just for fun. Each time I scolded SK, I think he also potong markah!!! Sobs!

    1. Just needed to call your bank and usually they have a number for you to press in the telephony directory for waiving, depending on the banks. Else, speak to the operators. They most likely will waive it else you threaten to terminate your card...muahahahhaa

    2. This is the fastest way to reach the right person in charge. Just press "0" and tell the officer that you want to complain about being wrongly charged for the credit card. He will pass you to the person in charge and you tell the officer that you have been told since Day 1 when you got the card that there is no annual fees whatsoever like other banks blah blah blah... I wanna cancel lah like dat...

He will quickly pacify you and happily ever after.

  29. I'm not aware how this credit card system really works but you mean if you upgraded to a new card, the old one is still functional?

  30. 點都好你已經升級為專貴嘅白金卡會員囖,恭喜曬。

  31. Ya I kena before. Being upgraded without any advanced notification... Luckily they din't have much terms and condition, so consider a lucky reward for me, if got any hidden charges or anything I will terus send back to them, haha!

The credit limit thing.. I always have a thinking. For me, no difference, cause it's not that I am so rich can swipe so much every month! Haha! Give me 1k as credit limit I also think it's too much liao, LOL! Actually these days hardly use credit card liao... Our grocery all paid by FIL, same goes to petrol fees. Shopping, I usually just use bank transfer. Unless those insurance thingy, which paid yearly one, that one auto deduct from credit card la, no choice~

Your last photo, haha, memang very kiasi! But smart also la, better be safe than sorry ma!

  32. aha...i think i know which bank la. wei....don't scold first la. see they say newly enhanced security feature leh. Is it the one that need pin number instaed of signature punya?

tak apa la. since it it for our own financial security. some more they did not charge us for the new credit card mah. For me i think it is okay la

Think of it this way. Bank of course want to play safe. They will not simply waste money printing new card and chips and waste money sending them out to their customer eventhough their customer's punya credit card have not expired. There must be something critical which they feel they had to do this . Not just for the fun of it. Just bear with it lo.

Not troublesome also to activate the new card. Just give the bank a call will do.

    1. wakakakaka...see! They upgraded your card lo. Know now you have been upgraded from a simple minions to KING BOB liao. So Gold card no longer applicable for your status la. No class liao.

Hail KING BOB the Valued Customer. Long live the king.

Hmm...not same credit card company la. Mine, they sent me a new card though my card have not expired coz of the new security feature. The phrasing out the old card by stages so the need me to activate the new card.

well, your platinum card have a higher credit limit. My view is that since now you are doing business on your own, you might as well have a platinum card. If need to belanja customer makan use credit card flash platinum card also look better ma.

ANyway, if you are not comfortable with the higher limit, can always call up the bank and ask them to reduce the limit to the limit that you feel comfortable with. SO that next time if there is truly there is an emergency like need large some for hospital etc, you can always give a call to the bank to uplift the limit amount to the original limit. for contigency purposes la.

    2. Okay...impatience.....flipped till the last photo liao....wakakakakka...me like you kena conned kau kau by the Bank. What the fuck is that?

See in photo C memang Platinum card wor. Very prestigious wor.... look so classy too.

In photo D....LOL.... Platinum is not equal to even Gold wor. Usually is the normal card, silver gold then platinium ma. Here it seems they have downgraded your card to silver card wor. Apa ni? Kena conned by the bank liao ka?

Ya lor me too think onl y those rich and famous can have platinum card leh. adui...credit limit same as your old limit ...so apa pasal with the new card wor. Feel like they forcing you take it or leave it. If you do not want the platinum card then berambus to elsewhere do not kacau the earth turning .

errr....so i tak faham...in the end did you continue with this bank or not? Still continue ah though they are so sneaky?

Got any thought of switching to another Bank? Maybe can sound other bank out see if their offer can be better or just as good.

Very unethical leh if this is the case. Hmmm....if mau make it a big deal ah...can write to Bank Negara Malaysia and complain. From the case presented, the Bank obviously changed the card to Platinum just for the extra annual fees leh. Annual fees can waive but then they will impose this and that condition. so troublesome leh.

  33. Wow, that's good news to you, I was using this bank before, but ended with long sad annoying story so I stop using it anymore.

Picture G Aiyo, really got to be so troublesome one argh?? Mine one I still keep it nicely somewhere...feel like a souvenir la, hahaha....
