My Very First UBER Experience
My Very First Uber Experience

i finally had my very first Uber experience last week.. i wanted to go somewhere from office and instead of getting a taxi, this Uber thing came into mind and i thought why not give it a try since i heard many positive reviews about it?? so i downloaded the apps and registered, while getting myself familiar with the apps, an unknown number called in out of expectation.. it was an Uber driver telling me my booking was confirmed and he was on the way to pick me up in 10 minutes!! i was shocked as i was just exploring the apps and didn't know i may have accidentally made a request, ooopsss!! it was that quick and easy, a first experience started with surprise, haha!!

the driver was punctual with his Perotiga Asia which is less than a year old.. i won't say it was comfortable (we know that model well) but at least the car was clean and smelled fresh.. the driver was friendly, speaks good English, seems well educated and we had a pleasant chat on Uber versus KL taxis.. i was safely sent to my destination after 20 minutes and right away, my phone beeped some notifications - SMS saying my credit card was charged with the fare, a receipt was sent to my email and the apps asked me to rate the trip.. holy efficient!!

though i didn't notice any free mineral water like what the reviews i read mentioned, and i have no idea if the fare was higher or lower than normal taxis, it was indeed a happy first-time and i will surely continue using Uber service.. BTW, this is not a paid post but sengaja want to write about it, so that i can at the same time share my code that you can key-in during your registration to earn a free ride up to RM20.. :)
my invite code: shermank44ue, or redeem it here..

  4. Good Morning Bloggers. Wei, this Thambee keeps changing his time to post his new blog postings. I wonder if there is a fixed or random posting like mine now? That is better!
Maybe SK needs to create a Blog-Apps so that we can receive signals from him when there will be an update the next day! Good idea? Bingo!

UBER is a new popular trend now and many people have used it with satisfactory results. In my area, there is a community Facebook that contains over 7,000 members. Very few fellas complained about this taxi service which I think was an odd issues where the taxis didn't show up besides other tiny complaints. In general, any drivers from any service companies could be both efficient and disappointing too which depends on one's luck.

    1. When it was first launched, I wanted to use this service to go to airport but some hesitation led me to use my wifey's regular private driver who plies the airport daily. His rates were very reasonable besides I loved his new fresh smelling MPV to cart my luggage. This driver would promptly wait for us at the airports on our return by checking of any possible flight delays.

    2. Where did Thambee go to in just 20 minutes distance? Let me guess! I think you went to Mid Valley to shop and lunch. Maybe you went to Jalan Gasing to meet a client and proceeded to the Thai Temple to ask for blessings!

That Perotiga Asia is a tiny cute car and I think I might need to stick my head out of the windows. Now you made me realise that if that Perotiga Asia showed up, I might have over-sized problems to get inside. There are many new cars on the road with petite sporty looks that come with low roofs and gave me a nightmare while sitting inside friend's cars. One example is the 3 series Peogeota...!

    3. if you have a regular taxi driver that you know, then of course i would recommend you to call that driver.. but then Anay always driving your beautiful Perosembilan Bebola, rarely you will need a taxi kot?? yeah, i was actually expecting something better than Perotiga Asia, but since i tapped that car and the driver called, then just take that la.. next time will choose other more "luxurious" car, hehehe :p

      Delete
    4. What a strange name of cars you just uttered! Anay has no idea what luxury sports car you mentioned. I drive a cheap corrupt invested car brand.
Next time, you like a driver, ask for their personal tel number and call direct. He would be happy to service you without paying fees.
That is what people are doing these days.

    5. wah lau eh...when i read thambee create apps to update us when he got new post... rasa macam we all naik kepala pulak. Kasi betis nak peha..LOL

now there seems to be a few "gang" fighting for cab business , right? The most agressive is the red cab gang. The rest like My Teksi, Grab a car and uber seems moderate.

seems like the red cab too long monopoly the market liao. People are fed up with the cheating. the lies and empty promises. No wonder people are switching to other cab provider. And i read in the news that these red cab protested? and some even beat up and cause damage to the other cabs and cabbies. Dont know how true is the news la.

Apa tidaknya...these red cab promises a lot...see at the foor and inside the cab say this cab not allow price haggling...yeh...true...cab drive say RM10 for 5 mins ride, customers not allowed to argue lo... after all the meter could be dancing a jingle there. Betul tak?

No wonder people are turning to the green cab, grey cab and what not...

Perotiga Asia...you cannot masuk meh? wei...kaldip can go in ..you cannot go in? nah.....

yes kaldip also had regular teksi drive to the airportbut sometimes the driver have too much business or the cab rosak.

haiz...kesian also la that fella. rented a cab to drive then cari makan not enough to pay the car rental. kaldip most of the time will give him extra from what he qouted.

    2. Nowadays, this type of apps and services are so convenient and good to use. It is just like Airbnb. I used it to book my room in Tokyo. I could communicate to the owner of the room so easily through the app.

    3. I will use Taxi if I am out of my hometown, for eg. I will taxi when I am in KL. Next time, when I am in KL, I will sure call taxi via this Uber. I heard that from a friend in KL too before i read this post.

    4. Perhaps, I should install and register in the apps so that I can benefit from your invitation code of RM20 free ticket. Thanks SK.

Few years ago, if u 搭的, 12km already over RM20 lah. Now should be even more so. So for sure it is cheaper to take Uber...

  7. Frankly, I'm just glad this is not banned - giving the old guys a run for their money. I'm always for the underdog.. you can't tell? :O

I wonder if this new competition/threat has any impact on the existing service - like do we see any improvement. Your guess is as good as mine, I suppose.

Go Uber! I hear there's another outfit but its name escapes me at the moment. No wait, is it GrabCar? Hmm..

Thanks for sharing your experience, SK. Good to know.

    1. I don't use taxi that often, only once in a blue moon. But I have had frustrations with the regular cabs. Sometimes, I have to call them back to check only to be told that there is no taxi. Then I have to try another cab company. If lucky, can get, if not have to go to the road side and get one :(

    2. i also seldom take taxi, but when we need a taxi, we are really in need indeed, hahaha!! so instead of getting lousy services, might as well try this Uber which received many positive reviews..

  9. Until today I don't understand how this work coz I don't take public transport kan? That day I almost needed to take a cap and almost downloaded UBER app. Then miracle happened, I got a ride and all my plans of downloading apps are all gone. 1. i also agak-agak how this work after taking my first Uber ride.. at least i don't have to find small notes, and worry that the driver refuse to take my bigger notes or claimed he has no change for me.. everything is through credit card or paypal, very advanced one.. :p

  10. Yes, my sons use UBER for many months now, ever since they stay in JB... and if they recommend anyone, they get a credit.. hahaha.. not sure how it works, but they always end up not paying much, I know.. very worth it.. lately I heard of cases that some got beaten up... hope it has now been resolved..

    1. wow, so your sons are Uber regular customers!! so they must be very happy and probably won't resort to the existing taxi services?? errr, get them to bring you for a Uber ride one day, and you will know how it works :p

      Delete
    2. No wonder Thambee put his secret code here so that he gets rewarded with $$ for every customer he recommended. What happens if I used your code and disappeared when the taxi showed up? Will they deduct money and kanasai you instead??

    3. wah now everyone know what type of phone anay uses leh...LOL....

wah tu Uber like Groupon ah? recommend customers then get discount. not bad wor. Good also means free advertising for them.

wont kanasai SK gua since he recommend only mah...not he who order the cab. Surely there are some verification or something gua.... see SK said got cab call him say coming in 10mins. Means the cab driver will call the fella who order cab using sk code la. If the fella cabut lari, maybe they even have a data system to blacklist that particular phone number kot.

If not mistaken... the radius of the cab to the customers must be withing certain km...3-5km? so the cab drive will not lost too much time or petrol kot even if the client fly kite.

  12. I love using Uber. And my son loves it too... to be chauffeured in a Camry. (That's what we usually get). Hehehe

    Feel like so tai-tai one.

Never had the experience of getting more swanky cars although a few of my friends did, and at no extra charge. So lucky!!!

Too bad Taiping macam don't have ler... But even if got I don't think I need it anyway la, hehe, used to drive on my own, plus Taiping just small place no need taxi or public transportation.

I hope this Uber thing can maintain the standard, you know la, many things in our Bolehland cannot maintain standard consistently one, only good in the beginning, then will drop liao.

Very nice of you to share the invitation code! RM 20 can be quite useful liao.

  23. I never tried uber before but I heard from a lot of folks who experienced it before saying that the service was good and cheaper than conventional taxis. The driver are also more friendly compared to some taxi drivers who behaved like thugs when they talked and not so well mannered. Of course this is just a generalization only as not all taxi drivers are that bad as I have encountered friendly ones too. And so as uber drivers I believe.

It's a good thing to have some alternatives to taxis as well as uber cabs are usually well maintained since this is also their own vehicles. I'm sure they afraid the passengers might dirtied their vehicles rather than the passengers afraid of dirty cabs ... Lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. Glad you have s great experience with uber taxis. Aiyo.. I guess as an IT guy , you must be doing some user acceptance test on that app which causes the uber cab to registered your booking and called you. Hahhaha.. Glad that you do need a cab at that moment else you will waste someone's time.

After reading your post, it seems they are really efficient as well as there's a good IT infrastructure behind to manage the bookings, like processing your booking and payments.

    ReplyDelete
  25. That was just few days ago when I'm back from my overseas trip where two of tour companions decided to call uber mpv to send them home from the tour agent office. Being curious , I asked them how was the service and they said it was good and even cheaper than normal cabs. It seems very fast as I saw them make the booking and within 10mins, the mpvs arrived. It was clean and the driver also came out to carry their luggages into the car. They told me they always called uber instead of normal cabs.

I always take cabs home in JB and sometimes there are always no cabs passing around my area and that can be frustrating and time consuming to call another can company again. Maybe j should try uber too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wah .. Didn't know they also reward their users who introduce new users to register for their service. Sure,I will do it later by keying in your registration no. That's an innovative way to encourage more users to them.

Having commented all these, I still feel they must be some regulations on uber cabs like gps to track where they are and which vehicle a certain passenger is on at the particular time for safety reasons. I know even cabs don't have this service but it's good to introduce it.
