The (Not That Big As I Thought It Would Be) Triple Cheeseburger
The Not That Big As I Thought It Would Be McD Triple Cheeseburger

this was the Triple Cheeseburger (count the cheese then the beef patties) i had some days ago in Donald McRonald's.. yes, petrified was my reaction when i asked for a double but my friend bought me a triple instead!! i gingerly opened the box, took out the burger and gave it a close scrutiny.. that was my extra virgin Triple Cheeseburger experience really, but hey, it was actually not that big as what i saw on the menu and imagined it would be~~

i finished my burger and reorganise my thoughts, what's there to be surprised about?? we have kind of "consented" that while keeping price competitive, the patties are now just half the thickness of what they used to be.. so this triple is probably the double we used to have, and now i know why i would always feel "tarak rasa" even after gobbling a double cheeseburger, hahaha!! but can't afford to get another set because things are getting more expensive, even eating at roadside stalls can cost us RM10 a meal, sometimes i think having fast food are more economical.. it wasn't like this remember?? back then only the rich students could afford Donald McRonald's but now i go to Donald McRonald's because the chap fan auntie easily charges me RM7 for a plate of rice.. price up and money shrinks further, and yet even more "donations"!! tell me how i not love my country??

    1. Sorry eh! It is a triple cheese burger, I saw the picture and straight away comment to be the first commenter, now only I know it is triple and not double cheese burger.

    2. Things are getting very expensive now, I agree with you, SK. Life is getting tougher too. Kopitiam now isn't selling any cheaper than the fast food. Pasar Malam clothes too aren't selling clothes cheaper than those outlets in the mall.

    3. I bought birthday cake through FB, it was homemade, it was selling more expensive than Secret Recipe. Fulamak! One time sudah cukup.

    4. Now I looked at your Triple Cheese burger again. it was quite salivating actually. I love cheese burger too, but I can't afford to eat the whole burger on my own. It would make my exercise effort go wasted. I would steal a bite or two when Jin Jin had it.

    5. First post in November and Yannie got the FC. Nice theme in November, I like that black coffee at your blog header. It is almost year end. 1 + more month to go and we have New Year again. Though, things are getting pricey, and money ain't enough to spend, we have to stay easy and happy, folks.

    6. I fully agree that kopi tiams and pasar malams have been displaying killer prices that we consumers need to open our blurry eyes to think twice. I have been deceived many times by the prices until I found that shopping online is always cheaper as they have no hefty overhead charges to be able to lower the prices. Now I found out that the online sites did not lower their prices drastically but the retail shops are charging too highly exorbitant prices to suit their lavish lifestyles. These days I am wiser and avoid these parang wielding businesses!

I know SK Thambee and Yannie are also wise shoppers online and offlines! Betul tak?

I would love that yummilicious burger and just eat them without worrying my weight or side effects. Just eat now, happy now for we dunno what brings us tomorrow. Next week, Anay eating Pork Burger from Donald McRonald is Yukata outfit!!! Yoohoo!!!

Suspected also la that online store can sell cheap coz they don;t have to pay rental or overheads cost. Mostly are handled at home or the owner do part time leh.

Yeah...those clothing shops in shopping mall can really scared die me when i see the price. Darn it...on pink pokka dot bikini already cost hundred of ringgit leh.

Makan aje la that burger. This SK nowadays have to run here run there. Not like last time 9 to 5 sit shhake legs in office and spamming blogs. Now one leg kick. if any fat would have been burn up in no time liao lo

Most important is kenyang.. Seriously, you give me quadruple also I not enuff ger la, wana add this that baru enuff.. I don’t know if it’s in the mind or not.. Like if I order one Big Mac meal, I always add chicken nuggets, then spinach pie and chocolate sundae.. Even if you give me quadruple burger also, I will still add some stuffs, so leh, no need eat so big burger kua, hehe..

But frozen beef patties, bread, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo, can make and “kiap” to work everyday.. Can last a week (a packet of frozen patties got 10 pcs I think).. Not bad also if calculate like that.. But of coz once a while eat at Mc Dong Dong nicer la, kan, haha..

"... one Big Mac meal, I always add chicken nuggets, then spinach pie and chocolate sundae.. " Really I can't imagine Princess Ribbon is such a big eater. I think you must be share share with your husband and your boys, and you just eat a few bites here and there only right?

      Delete
    6. Yannie, sometimes really jealous with this type of people, petite but can eat so much! Eat a lot also won't fat one, grrr! How come!!

I eat extra a bit only, already can see result on the weighing scale, haih T_T

      Delete
    7. This Princess Ribbon is very thin one. When she overeats, she will go on her Milook diet for one week or dig throat!!! Wakakaka

Last time we blamed the fast food joints being grossly expensive and not worth dining on junk food. Now the stupid inflation has turned the tables making the kopi tiams becoming costly while the fast food joints are cheaper. Thambee should always post and inform us when you see cheapo meals in these outlets as your CB hawkeye damn sharper that the hunting vultures.

      Delete
    8. hahaha.. sure Princess Ribbon has no problem walloping this triple cheeseburger into her stomach lah, in fact i think she can eat two leh.. and true lah, so envy her, eat so much still so slim one???

    9. Choi! Choi...what digging throat pulak ni.

mau cheapo things ah...wei...this month look out 7 eleven leh. They having RM1 promotions. Some items even KOTEX also RM1 only leh.

Pasar malam food no longer cheap liao lo. Anytime it can fight with kopitiam prices.

That day i asked...mak oi...one packet of nasi lemak in pasar malam with a fried egg selling rm3.50 leh. Those nasi lemak bungkus RM1 type or RM1.50 type...not even one bow of rice . End up have to eat 2 packets baru enough full...and that is J eating 2 packets you know...not adult eating.

Oh ya...yesterday i went SS15...behind taylor's College there. Found one very cheap mixed rice. 3 of us eating RM11.50 only. Was so shocked leh. Plus chinese tea also leh. J took taugeh with bean curd, toufu and chicken feet, me too 3 types of vegetables and kaldip too sweet sour pork and one type of vege. Cheap ho....SHop name is restaurant 96. If you guys happens to be at that area can try out la the food there. RM11.50...can but only 1 set of McD leh...but here at this chap farn shop can eat full ful for 3 person

Maybe can say it's optical illusion kot... Afterall when they snap photo of the triple cheese beef burger it's against white background. White always makes things looks bigger mah hence dun wear white baju if you wanna look slim. .. so when photo of the burger taken against the white background...then looks bigger lor...moreover they enlarge it leh.

  4. Walau Eh!!! Thambee you just ate triple meat patty from the poor cows!!
So yummy dei ka? i have never eaten triple burger in my life and your wonder-fool made you try it. To me whether single, double and triple is no difference in taste but just the price and reading on our bathroom's weighing scales.

I have often bought ala carte take aways from Ronald's outlet near my home as I found the portions just right and reasonable too. I avoid their drinks as it was not worth it and too sweet.

    ReplyDelete

    1. of course no difference in taste lah because they are all the same, the difference is the portion lah.. i bet Anay will not have enough with just a normal Donald McRonald's single cheeseburger lah.. it's so small even kids may not get enough~~

    2. Thambee Dei... I always skip taking the big burgers lah. I have to watch my weight nowadays as my pants get ketat and cannot breathe. I would be having a protruding pot belly!! bluek!

Anyway...been reading a lot about all these la....say not good...process food not good this and that . What to do...money not enough leh. Now I buy McSaver RM3.50 or RM4. But at times I feel like if compared to Ramli Burger, McSaver is smaller leh.

Now nasi lemak not cheap anymore

  7. I think you're right. The fast food restaurants are able to be more competitive by reducing prices and their cost but it's really quite unhealthy. But I agreed with u...the "chap fan" aunty is charging us RM7 and that's considered cheap. Imagine some places are even more expensive. I have adopted a moderate lifestyle to cook dinner at least twice or three times a week at home though. Guess that's one of the ways...but if u live a hectic life, probably McD is the way to go!

    1. that is what i can observe because the fast food chain can control the portion to keep the price competitive.. but at the chap fan stall, the auntie just have to charge accordingly to what and how much we have taken.. that is why, nowadays i actually settle my quick lunch or dinner more at fast food chains..

  9. Yeah, in fact, previously I thought their lunch/dinner value meal patties are much smaller than normal hours patties, I guess many people complained so now they standardized to the same puny weeny patties for further cost savings...

Don't worry, your beloved "fried rice" minister always have good ideas on to save some money, we should follow him on FB for more tips. Like yesterday he came up with the advice to wake up earlier and use alternative roads to save on tolls. I almost choked on my coffee as I read what he said. What a brilliant idea! Alternative road got but maybe longer distance and traffic jam..so how does that help us to save money leh? Petron no need pay ka?

True what RG had said. Last time those set meal portion are smaller than regular size...i feel it too.

Anyone got friends working in these fast food outlet ka? maybe can ask see if they were given instruction to save when it comes to those meal offers?

    2. I think some area here if wanna take fish then the price already up to RM10 loh. One piece of fish already counted as RM4 a piece jor.

      Ipoh prices still okay la.

Chap farn shop also depending on area punya leh. I noticed if at shopping area or office area, the prices will be higher as compare to those near college area. Maybe they know college students most don't have much money to eat expensive things so they charge lower.

  17. I seldom ate at McD and thus all looks the same to me...muahahahhaa...or maybe just in SG only? The McChicken I just had few days seems the same size as the last one I had, if I didn't remember wrongly.

Anyway, I do agree with you if we compare to the burgers of the past, probably in the last decade or two. I remember then, I patronised the newly opened A&W in the early 80s and I was very much a kid then. All these fast food restaurants excites me as there are not many then except KFC. I still remembers vividly that big burger which was wrapped in those shiny silver wrapper and when it was opened, the burger was still hot with the sesame seeds falling off on top of the burger. I remember it as that was one of the finest burger I had. When I went back to A&W before it was closed down, the burger really shrink, wet and don't look as good as below. In addition, they wrapped it in those thin paper in McD.

I guess we have to go to Burger King or Carl's Junior to hunt for big burgers now. Anyway, I am surprise to find the triple cheese burger so small, it looks like a normal hamburger, minus the extra layer of meat and cheese. Well, it seems everywhere is cutting cost.

    ReplyDelete

    1. everything shrinks in size lah.. at first i still thought maybe last time we were kids so sure see things being bigger mah, but that's not the case leh.. really the burger patties all have become half the thickness of what they used to be leh..

    2. If cakap Ramen shrink size sure Chris will notice one leh.

Or maybe the Burger in SG tarak shrink size. After all SG$ tarak jatuh mah like in malaysia RM jatuh till tup tup sound

  18. This is the first time I heard a chap fan cost that much or maybe that's in the Klang Valley. This is almost like SG standard. A plate here cost around $2+ to $3+. Still it's cheaper then in KL if compared with the exchange rate...muahahaha... Aiya, if I were to buy a plate of chap fan for a cost like that here, I will complaint too. Even a $5 plate is too expensive here!

Well, no choice, the economy is getting bad and the traders also have no choice but to increase the price. The problem is when they increased, they don't decreased when the economy is back bubbling! Thus, everything's goes up and it makes stuffs so expensive.

Even hawker centres in JB also selling at high costs. A plate of char kway teow almost cost around RM6 to Rm7 in most of the places. The cheapest chicken rice will likely cost around Rm4+.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i would say eating in SG is actually cheap lah.. you can still find S$3 stuffs for a complete and filling meal, over here in KL, you wait long long lah if you want to settle with a proper meal at RM3.. and JB no need to say lah, because the SG people and those working in SG are spending there, so indirectly increases the price lor..

      Delete
  19. Oh yeah, I was dining at some regular restaurants in JB and over the last few months, I noticed either these places have increased their prices , by introducing a new menu (but actually same dish) or they shrink the portion of the food for the same price.

Yeah, back then, only the rich can afford fast food. I was a student then and it was a privilege to had a meal at KFC especially. Those are consider 'big' days like birthdays or some other celebrations. McD too, we had meals there once a while especially during weekends to wind down and going for a movie. And, the meals are cheaper then, I guess less than RM5.

Nowadays, we usually avoid fast food for health reasons. And, if we need a quick and fast meal, then we may opt for fast food or since most of the joints are 24 hours, it served as a convenient means to get a meal during those wee hours. I just had one MCD at 1am last Tuesday after work...muhahahahaha... The rest of the hawker centres and restaurants are fully closed.

Oh yeah, I agreed the fast food joints offered a cheaper option now for meals but that's not good news. We are not eating healthily. Might as well you continue to dish out your mini meals in the pantry. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah, for once i actually have been avoiding eating fast food.. but now ah, fast food can be more economical than eating at roadside stalls leh.. one meal with a burger, a fries and drinks less than RM10.. if you go to some eateries, the main dish already more than RM10 and drinks close to RM10.. but of course like you say, not good to eat fast food that often lor..

  20. I don't think we have it here... but yeah.. I think the size is more like a double burger only haha.. the patty was quite thin and small... this is the reason why I prefer to make a burger myself or better yet we have a burger shop here known as "Zark's burger" that offers a meal called "Tombstone" it has 2 pound cheeseburger covered with cheese sauce and served with 300g of fries! i can't even finish it alone haha

  21. Good morning SK

Talking about makan burger ah? LOL...me at McD leh. KFC wifi still k.o. Yes also jadi No already .

McD have Triple Cheese Burger ka? I thought only have double cheese burger.

Now getting taller and taller and taller ah? wanna fight with the Setapak 12 inches tall burger ka this McD?

Biasa la....they already put "For Illustration purposes only" kan...betu;l tak. Where got as big as the one in the photo one.

by the way...did you flip open the layer of the burger ka? Is it FULL piece of Cheese of only half piece of cheese like the Fillet-o-fish. Back in the 90s it was full piece of cheese but recent years they give only half piece.

The meat patties also looks very thin geh.

Guess all these are advertising gimmick kot

    ReplyDelete
  22. Finished your burger baru think ah? LOL..perut lapar cannot think is it?

Betul jugak la what you said. We sendiri "consented" to buying that. What to do?

Last time we buy the small cheese burger for the kiddie meal set...one burger wanna finish also find it hard to finish. But now...like tarak rasa liao. One burger not enough.

This makes me think ... where did McD gets the Buns and meat patties from. From their own factory or out source? Sorry ah...gua tau makan only but the origin gua tak tau.

You recall the photo about roti canai in the 80s, 90s and now? That photo was in Facebook for quite some time. It shows the roti canai getting smaller and smaller in size.

I wonder is it the same with the buns and meat patties for McD. Maybe if they outsource then the supplier reduce the bun size?

Don;t the main Head Office of McD have somer sort of quality control over the size of the buns and patties?

Earlier this year you went to BKK right? Got see whether the McD bun size same as here?

Hmmm maybe i should ask Anay since he is in Japan now. Maybe his brilliant eyes can spy and see whether the buns size and patties size of McD burger over there is the same as here or not.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There are others burger chain restaurants here too but how come they are like not really doing well. If only they can give McD a run for their money then maybe they will reduce the price or give bigger burgers kot

Just like the BBW reduce price. Others books store cursing them upside down. But now die die they had to reduce price too. Like one Particular bookstore...now can have sale RM5 per book. I suspect they also getting remainder books. So if they can do this...all these years before BBW ...how much profit they had got from us by selling the books full price.

Anyway...when there is competition...either the price will go down or portion increase la. Hopefully outlet like Wendy's or Burger King can jiayoh more la. As for A & W....haiz....I wonder what is wrong with them.... hidup tak hidup, mati tak mati...their burger are nice and big too but..... entah la

But but but...now hor...even the Donald Duck shop also naik harga liao leh. Used to be RM7plus RM8plus per set meal but now RM12plus per set meal jor. Looks like I have to start buying Happy Meal jor. eat kids portion instead of adult portion. Maybe think of it as silver lining lo...eat less equal to diet equal to healthier?

  25. Now I go eat Chap Farn(mixed rice- note: Now no more call economy rice jor) , I also rasa was-was coz dunno what will the price be in the end.

Some shop charge very cheap and some charge an arm and a leg leh.

If not mistaken la...now minimum charge is RM5 jor no matter how much less vegetable/ dishes you take.

tarak take any meat also can end up RM6 leh.

Hmm....if compared mixed rice to Banana leaf rice...which one cheaper leh? Banana leaf rice RM5 per set ...all vege but no meat. While mixed rice can have meat at a cost less than RM10. But if Banana leaf rice,if take meat sure more than RM10. However if Banana leaf rice versus vegetarian rice....which one cheaper. ...count till my head pening liao

If you don't wanna use toll road then invest on a sampan la Buy a sampan...but then make sure you pay GST for it okay...then row row row your boat to your office lo. I dunno how Klang river can sambung to your office la....maybe you try use waze. Waze maybe be have incorporated water route in their system kot.

Some more what else ah? Err...tanam sayur at home like me lo....can have more oxygen and can harvest to makan also. But dont tanam kangkung la. Can tanam sweet pptatoes leaves, faster to harvest leh.

Oh ya....make sure you pay your taxes promptly wor coz now they have upgraded their system...saman come very fast de leh.
