okay, let me be frank that nothing much actually comes to my mind about what to blog about today.. filler posts always happen to be food post for me, haha!! found this photo i took couple of months ago, two grilled sausages on a bed of coral lettuce and cucumbers and corn kernels.. of course, inspired by this photo, i now know what i want to talk about, hehe.. nope, i didn't have any complicated dressing for my salad, in fact i kind of dislike creamy dressing (for example, mayonnaise and thousand island that many worship them so much as if they are the "de facto" dressing for salads).. i would rather like my salad to be "cream-free", hence light and refreshing types of dressing (for example, vinaigrette based) would be my preference.. but of course to someone like me who hardly prepare food for myself, i have limited ingredients with me.. so i improvised, squeezed a little lemon juice and sprinkled a little salt as the dressing for this.. hmmm, that was a simply fresh yet satisfying lunch..

    2. Opps, sorry typo error: I mean a little bit ;)

Lemon juice and salt as dressing? Should be great too! The salad won't be too plain, nor too rich, nice! Anyway this salad of yours looks really yummy!

  15. Salad dressing is very wide, which I can think of right now are kuah kacang, rojak paste, sambal belacan and red sweet sauce.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kuah Kacang
      - Blanched pucuk paku pakis, tauhu sumbat, nasi impit. Yum yum!

Rojak paste is so common here - dip with anything also can.

      Sambal Belacan
      - Nice to eat with cucumber, any Malay ulam-ulam.

Red Sweet sauce, I was talking about the red sweet sauce spread on top of sengkuang + sprinkle some sugar and groundnuts. My chilhood fav. It also apply the same sauce for Chee Cheong Fun and also Cuttlefish and Kangkung.

      Delete
    2. Mayo and thousand island sauce can be fattening too. Light dressing like olive oil or can make light vinaigrette is far much better.

      Delete
    3. If can without salt better still. Some may say without mayo and thousand island sauce - the salad is tasteless. That is nonsense. You can always combine fruits in salad, or maybe raisins and even nuts. It is always taste perfect.

      Delete
    4. Or else just like SK - combine with big sausages. Other things like - cheese, croutons, chicken breast, fishballs and many things to add.

  20. i like my salads plain minus creamy dressing. Often I rely on complimentary ingredients in my salad to flavour it. Eg lemons, oranges, watermelons and mangoes are naturally tasty and act like a dressing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love all the green in your bowl. The sausage, I will take only half of it. I prefer fruit and veggie more. Usually I will donate all those fat in my bowl to my hubby and girls.

If the sausage is replaced with hard boiled egg, then it will be perfect for me.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Actually I don't mind to add some mayonnaise or Thousand Island on this bowl of salad. Not too many, a bit of it will make it taste better.

    2. But then when I make cupcakes, I will omit all the cream on top of the cupcakes. Icing and cream are very fattening and sweet for my liking. That's why you see me baking plain cupcakes most of the time.
