29.04.2013 | 手信禮物

[Volume 8 Issue 4, #1713]
whenever i travel, i never like or used to buy souvenirs.. even if i buy, that would be because something really attracts me, but i will only get a few and not anything excess for myself.. unlike some who have a lot of friends and relatives, i totally understand that they need to stock up one big bulk to have enough for everyone, i indeed feel happy for them for their ability to buy so much actually.. buying souvenirs is one big knowledge, you want to please every single one, you want to get something decent yet not too expensive, you want to get something practical and yet looks special.. i know i do not have such capability, hence to avoid situations where ends do not meet, i rather not get any at all, haha!! anyway, due to the many gifts i got from friends lately, i guess from now on i cannot avoid skipping buying some souvenirs for them, else i would feel uneasy for only receiving but not giving.. having said that, what kind of souvenirs you hate most to receive?? keychains or chocolates?? haha.. :D

    1. True, getting souvenirs can be quite a headache and that is besides the extra weight and space you will require to pack them all in. It's always a good idea to pack an extra bag (for shopping). :)

  3. Buying is easy! Carting the whole lot home is the problem...especially now that the airlines are so strict.

Me? No chocolates for me, please. I get so much of that...people will always give me, especially imported ones from overseas...but I'm cutting down on sweet stuff so I hardly ever eat. My missus and daughter would eat though not that much - we still have heaps in the fridge.

  8. I think fridge magnets are most popular items. They are flat, small, light and popular with recipients. Good chocolates are not cheap and they will get crushed & melt easily. It is No-No in my list.

  11. I don't like keychains but who would hate chocolates??? :) In fact, I think chocolates are a safe choice because it's something that generally people like, and it's a consumable so it doesn't take up space after you eat it. If you get something else that they don't like, they might have to crack their head on what to do with it and worse, figure out where to store it! Having said that, I love getting fridge magnets as souvenirs! ;)

    1. I'm afraid I don't. Never a fan really and besides, I have to cut down on sweet things, especially at my age. Love Scottish shortbread, rich fragrant butter cookies...but no Arnotts!!! We have lots here in Sibu and I do not think they're nice...and so expensive, some more.

    2. I like chocolate but in small amount la...not big big box coz difficult to finish and some choc cant keep long.

    1. I don't hate souvenirs la! I am thankful if people remember to get me souvenirs from anywhere ;)

But only thing is, I feel that keychain is quite a waste la! I mean no doubt it's the most common and easiest souvenir to locate but how many can we use at once, right?
But I do keep all the keychains I got in a bag =)

      Delete
    2. So I don't mind if people get me food instead, though certain food cannot be kept for too long, at least I can share with family/friends.

    3. And yes, you should start buying souvenirs for friends already if you're travelling, hehe :p
Just choose something more practical lo~

    4. But sometimes buying souvenirs for friends also quite headache, if you buy you have to buy for everyone already, if not others will start to get jealous/tease you...
In my case, I will only buy for closest friends, and also depends if that person bought me anything before? If not, I'll just skip buying him/her ;) (Haha I am like that!)

  15. Anyway, if you are planning for a holiday soon, just go and have fun. Forget about buying souvenirs. I know how leceh it will be to buy something that suit every one. Mine as well, you focus on the holiday, relax your mind, don't stress yourself of getting a souvenir. Put that as lower priority la!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Actually I don't really like to buy souvenirs too, but then souvenirs are really a nice way to bring something back from a trip and have fond memories of that trip!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I make it a point to buy at least one fridge magnet and the "I heart" T-shirt (eg. I heart Bali) with every new place I travel to.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I collect fridge magnets from different countries and stick them all onto my fridge. If one day my fridge is full with those magnets, I will need to buy a second fridge hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't mind receiving fridge magnets but not so fond of key chains though. But the fridge magnets must be beautiful and not too cheapskate hahaha!

  27. Chocolates are nice too but will they melt? That will be such a mess! So better not haha!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would say anything special is good for souvenir - not necessarily have to be expensive. But never ever buy things like photo frame. That really sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  29. So next time you travel, don't forget to get me a souvenir yeah? Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'll request for fridge magnet :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. As for me so far so good no complains on souvenir received from friends.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Got a friend who would request for nice spoon and for Bananaz's favorite is a pair of cute scissors. Most common items were mentioned above like keychain, fridge magnets. Sometimes book marks & soft toys are a good buy not so much on chocs when in Asian countries but with exception when going to European countries. Like it or not we never gotta buy home souvenirs for friends, colleagues & relatives.

  33. I never had a chance to travel that far so i never had a chance to buy souvenirs either LOL
