[#1235] exactly two weeks ago i posted how i accidentally found a clever way to not waste my facial cleanser, today allow me to beg your pardon for me to "show off" my thriftiness here again (*grin*)..

it all began with my pair of sport shoes that i've been wearing for more than 5 years.. the sole finally cannot withstand the ravage of time and 70% of it has came off the shoe, it made me look so unrefined as i walked (as if i had swollen b*lls, to be a little gross it's DLP in hokkien, haha!!).. i urgently found a cobbler in the mall, but he asked for RM10 to get it fixed and threatened that i need to wait for an hour!! no way of course , i went down to the supermarket and got myself a tube of glue (reminder: must be for shoes, superglue will not work).. spent RM2.50 on that and in less than 10 minutes, i got my shoes back to condition all by myself, he thought i was a fool?? what's more, i brought the glue back, and mend all my other "hungrily open mouth" shoes as well~~ and i'm bringing that glue with me whenever i go out, just in case.. :D

■ ■ P/S: having mentioned the facial cleanser, i've cut the tube for the third time and still using it, definitely enough for another week!! wow~~ ^.^

    ReplyDelete
  12. Glue for shoes, huh? No wonder I used elephant glue won't work.... Next time must look for 'Contact Grip'.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You know what, 'Contact Grip' sounds so, erm, sexually explicit, hahaha! Ok, ok, I 'terpesong'.

    ReplyDelete
  14. When you bring out the glue, make sure you seal it properly. Otherwise any contact it made if it leaked, it would surely grip. Don't put in your pant's pocket, just a reminder.

    ReplyDelete
  15. lol @ Yvonne's comment! Imagine it leaks in ur pant's pocket, something ELSE gonna get sealed! Susah lor!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great info must buy 'contact grip'. Now know a way can sing BGs "how can you mend a broken heart oops shoes. Please help me mend my broken shoe and let me run again."♫

  17. Few months back took my 5 year old Nike shoes to the road side cobbler as ma shoes got hungry and opened its mouth. Instead of glueing them back he made a mess by sewing all across, alamak almost cried. Well things done cannot be undone as he says this would last longer which is his good intention but its so ugly. Hiaz what is done cannot be undone gotta accept it. Aiya you should have posted this much earlier nevertheless still not too late. xiexie.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think your thriftiness posts must be inspired my my auntie post. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  19. i have a sport shoes for 5 years, and the sole is worn, till the sole came off. I didn't the glue, because the sole had become very thin, that i have nothing to glue to my shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If RM 10 fix can last more than 2 years, I will pay lo . . .as in belanja makan nasi lemak haha :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. Not bad also la actually by using your own trick hehe

and yah super glue punya glue wont really work . . . I use super glue for decorative purpose

    ReplyDelete
  34. Me, no shoes...only BATA sandals. Haven't used shoes since I retired - dunno how to use already lor. LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. thamby is not a chinese word lah

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm reluctant to send shoes to the cobbler. They normally come back too loose for comfort. I think they stretch the shoes on their metal shoe model/base while working on the shoe making it a size bigger when you get it back. Sigh..

Thanks for sharing this grip, err.. I mean glue or gum. Btw, doesn't it get dry once it's opened? I know elephant glue dries up fast making it useless when you next need it.

DLP...LOL! Bad ergonomics too. Walking like that too long will cause your legs and back to ache.

    ReplyDelete
  37. ya,the normal"super glue" is not suitable for shoes one. Actually many ppl dunno where to buy or which one to buy for shoes, including me.
Could you please recommend a bit regarding the glue?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey, tell you that i also faced the same problem last time. It was my hubby's shoes, so i also bought super glue and "gao dim liao"...
very cheap method! However i really salute the way you use up your cleanser.

    ReplyDelete
  39. woo...your blog got own "posting schedule"geh...

    ReplyDelete
  40. SK Thambee dei....! So clever boy! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I also try to glue my shoes sometimes but often had to change the soles instead.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thambeed dei I think you kicked too much stones till your shoes opened mouths!

    ReplyDelete
  43. You wear NIKE!!! So mahal kasut! Sure it is strong enough to last but you dunno how to wear la dei.

    ReplyDelete
  44. There is a SPECIAL glue which the cobbler uses which no one knows except Arumugam!

    ReplyDelete
  45. It is the COBBLER's TOP SECRET glue which cannot be revealed! It is very cheap but stronger than elephant glue and used by furniture companies.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It is so strong that it can stick 2 pieces of marble slabs together! No kidding nia, Thambee dei.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You wanna know the type of glue used? Please sing me my favourite Hindi songs!! Kekekekeke Kuchi Kuchi Kuchi Haaaiiiiii !!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dei what is DLP??? In Hokkien it is pronounced at TLP...! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Twilight Man,
That's a nice shop name for SK's cobbler outfit. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  61. Alamak... adik ni kedekut ke penjimat?!! LOL! Carry on your good virtue, I shall learn from you!^^

    ReplyDelete
  62. haha, this is a great idea!! i will not pay RM10 just for that too, it's just too expensive already.. he was asking for too much!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. oh, thanks for the info!! i've always been using superglue but found out it doesn't really last long.. i'll look for this "Contact Grip" next time, and RM2.50 is really worth it!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  64. @ kyh:
oh, only RM2 for your shoes' soles to be sewn?? and you mentioned "once" and how many years back was that?? haha..

    @ reanaclaire:
yeah, cobbling may not be cheap now, and you can see by just some stitching and gluing it already cost RM15.. might as well get the glue ourselves and DIY - just that the repair might not look as professional but who cares??

    ReplyDelete
  65. @ wenn:
yeah, i think it's a trend for the price of basically everything to hike right??

    @ Sheoh Yan:
haha, saving just a few ringgit and you expected me to become a millionaire?? wow, that's a little too confident on me right?? haha, but thanks, and actually i also wish i could be one~~ sure will not forget you if that day comes!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  66. @ khengsiong:

    @ bluedreamer27:
hahaha, sometimes i just am not willing to spend unnecessary money if i really can fix it myself.. haha, i may be practical in some areas but can also be very wasteful in other areas, so the net is zero, nothing to shout about, hahahaha!! oh, superglue will not last, you really need those specially for shoes, they really work well for shoes.. haha, yeah, i am still using that facial cleanser, i guess will last till next week.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. @ mNhL:
haha, actually all the while i have been using elephant glue but that doesn't last.. until i found this specially for leather and shoes, now i know that superglue is not really that super at all, haha..

    @ yvonne:
yalor, all the while i also think superglue will do but found out if use on shoes it won't help to last.. until i found this "contact grip" and yeah, it works perfectly for all my "open mouth" shoes, haha!! really save me a lot of trouble with this RM2.50 tube, and oh, i'm still carrying it with me in my bag whenever i go out.. so not scared it will leak lah, somemore it has a screw cap, very secure one.. :D

    ReplyDelete
  68. @ Merryn:
haiyah, of course i won't be so stupid to put that in my pocket lah.. i put that in my bag lah, somemore got screw cap so no problem at all lah.. :p

    @ Bananazஇ:
yeah, actually i've been trusting superglue can do everything, not until i found out they won't help with leather and shoes.. so with that "contact grip", it just work so perfectly well with all my shoes, hahahaha!! oh, the cobbler sew your shoes?? how could you allow him to do that?? and in fact i never have thot of sewing because i always thought by just gluing will do.. maybe the cobbler wants to fix it permanently and sewing no doubt will last longer than just gluing.. hehe, so remember, if you want it too look nicer and neater, get a glue~~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  69. @ Naomi:
hahahaha, actually i am born with this thriftiness all naturally!! i am an auntie inside!! hmmm, so what did you do with that pair of shoes?? so thin can't even have anything for the sole to stick on?? that's bad, time for new shoes lah, makcik, it's Mega Sales~~ :D

    @ iamthewitch:
hahaha, but then if you become a model in the future, cannot DIY your own shoes lah, that's so not classy and might ruin your image~~ let saucer do that for you!! haha :D

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ Caroline Ng May Ling:
wow, all your shoes will not worn for more than a year?? you really buy a lot of shoes then, i have not been getting new shoes for a long time, and i guess even the pair i am wearing everyday can last 2 years.. haha, sometimes too used to wearing that pair of shoes, so quite reluctant to throw away, still got feelings towards the shoes mah~~ :D

    @ lina:
hey, i am pelajar miskin, so really have to be thrifty!! wow, you never have any shoes with the sole came off?? it's either you are taking good care of them, or you just won't wear them for more than 5 times!! haha..

    ReplyDelete
  71. @ Medie007:
haha, of course gotta berjimat cermat because i am a pelajar miskin!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  72. @ Kian Fai:
but then it's my perception lah, RM10 just to apply the glue and stick it back woh.. i just spend RM2.50 to get a tube of glue, and didn't even use more than 10% of the glue and everything's done.. so to be precise it's 20 sen only, haha!! superglue won't work with leather, must get the "contact grip", haha~~

    @ suituapui:
hey, your BATA sandals is also inside the shoes categories lah.. wow, you really only been wearing sandals everyday?? even if you go for wedding dinner?? :D

    ReplyDelete
  73. @ ooi2009:
errr, yes, of course thamby is not a chinese word~~ haha!! :D

    @ HappySurfer:
yeah, i don't normally send my shoes to the cobbler, unless the sole gets exhausted and i have to get it replaced.. else if it just came off the shoe, i guess gluing it back by myself will just do, it's just simple task.. oh, strange this type of glue won't get dry easily if you keep the cap on.. i still have it with me, and occasionally i'll use it to stick some openings on the shoes!! haha.. oh yeah, i like your explanation, not ergonomic enough huh, that is why a pair of good shoes is a must~~ :p

    ReplyDelete
oh, i just got that glue by accident.. because at first i just buy superglue but found out it didn't help to last, so i go and search for other brands.. and then i got this "contact grip".. errr, i think if you can find superglue, most probably you can find this too.. just read the label and make sure it's for leather then should be ok.. haha, yes, just have my posting schedule out, to remind myself mah~~ :D

    @ Wai Kitt:
actually i found out that superglue is not as ideal as the one i have in the photo, this is really good because it's for leather and i think it's a better choice over superglue.. haha, yes, have to be thrifty mah, and i am still using that cleanser, i guess will last till last week lor..

    ReplyDelete
  75. @ Twilight Man:
Arumugam, it's NAIKI not NIKE, hahaha.. to be honest, i think it's not what shoes you are wearing, it's just that Thambee thinks the manufacturing of shoes now has become less good, shoes are easily torn apart.. maybe just that they want you to buy more shoes!! hmmm, cobbler's top secret glue?? Thambee knows what they are using, as Thambee has seen them before.. it's not superglue Thambee knows, just that type i bought to stick my shoes in the photo.. it's like honey, both color and texture, but of course smells something else and inedible lah.. Arumugam wants Thambee to sing, no problem, no need to exchange for any conditions, Thambee will just sing for Arumugam~ :p

    @ Pete:
haha, actually i just used less than 10% of that tube of glue to fix my shoes.. so to be precise, it's less than 20 sen!! haha..

    ReplyDelete
  76. @ Twilight Man:
oh, that schedule is to remind Thambee to write post because Thambee has been very busy with assignments.. also can be a good reference to readers when they can expect Thambee's new post mah, so that they can plan their time to spam comments!! hahahaha~~ what kind of chart?? Thambee just use plain HTML to come out with that lor~~ cleber dei??

    @ Small Kucing:
yeah, imagine RM10 versus RM2.50?? actually less than 20 sen because i just used less than 10% of that glue..

    ReplyDelete
  77. @ Isaac Tan:
haha, just sticking the sole back to the shoes only mah, easy job what.. errr, i got it from the stationery shop, i think if you can get superglue then you can also get that lah..

    @ lina:
hahaha, you really want me to become your cobbler?? not afraid i mess up your shoes?? but i thot all your shoes are still in perfect condition when you throw them away?? :D

    ReplyDelete
  78. @ Twilight Man:
haiyoh, KEDAI KASUT SK THAMBEE?? Arumugam you can't think of any other more sophisticated names meh?? Thambee always creative, so must also use a creative name for Thambee's shop mah.. or else the image doesn't match at all~~ :D

    @ imyuyu:

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ Kai and Baobei:

    ReplyDelete
  80. @ bluecloud:

    @ lina:
eih, that name is not nice lah.. so common and not sophisticated, how to match Thambee's image right?? haha~~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  81. @ Alice Law:
hahaha, adik ni pelajar miskin lah, so really have to be a little more thrifty.. haha, actually i mean if i can do that myself, i will not want to waste unnecessary money lor~~ :p

    @ victor:
haha, yes, compare RM2.50 to RM10!! that's a big difference.. and to be exact, less than 20 sen because i just used less than 10% of the glue!! oh yeah, superglue was what i've been using too, and you are right, it really doesn't work well.. this "contact grip" is actually for leathers, and it seems like those that the cobblers are using.. works perfectly with shoes~~ :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. so..... today got new post coming up ah?

Gotta get ready with my spams. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  83. 5 years, it is old shoes!

but it looks new for me.

    ReplyDelete
  84. it is good that you know to recycle the shoes and fix it istead of throw inside the rubbish tong!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Adoi gila Thambee! You wear Naiki ka? Lol....

    ReplyDelete
  86. That shoes must be made in India and use cow dung to paste the soles. Lmao kekekeke!

    ReplyDelete
  87. That super glue is not honey color la dei. It is colorless like your cum. Ha ha ha...

    ReplyDelete
  88. You can get it only at hardware shops. Tell them give you that liquid super glue that costs only RM2 per bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  89. You need to be extremely careful not to let it kena your skin or eyes. They cannot come off. Imagine it is so strong that it can glue marble or glass slabs together!

    ReplyDelete
  90. You can glue Kamala onto you and she is Thambee's forever! Ha ha ha ha ha....

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wow! You really are extremely thrifty! Haha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well DIY is always cheaper and save $$$! But sometimes I just too lazy to DIY so better just spend some money to let someone else do the job LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I don't mind letting the cobbler repair my shoe and during that one hour wait, I can go to a coffeeshop and spend more money for a cup of coffee and wait for my shoe to be repaired haha!! Looks like I've to learn to be more thrifty like you! : D

    ReplyDelete
  94. But wearing for 5 years already, I think you should change to a new pair. I mean, it's 5 years! You deserve a pair of new shoes! : D

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thambee Vanakam! What else do you know how to patch or repair? Can you mend broken hearts?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I just checked my shoe cabinet and I still have 10 year old shoes in mint condition. I think you walked and dragged your feet like ducks. No wonder koyak.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Happy 100th Comment Thambee! Should I buy lottery this Saturday?

    ReplyDelete
  99. I do the same to my shoes too XD. It is the cheapeast self mend shoes problem :p.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Uncle cobbler probably is not going to use contact glue for the "hungry crocodiles", probably going to sew them so take longer lor.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Carrying a contact glue around with you? Alamak, emergency cases? I should do that too hahaha! Since I carry a big bag every where I go :p.

    ReplyDelete
  102. @ lina:
wow, you really go see my post schedule huh?? did you set reminder and alarm also?? haha~~ :D

    @ CH Voon:
haha, bought more than 5 years ago but then not wearing it everyday mah.. somemore shoes bought last time actually can last longer one.. just the sole came off, still can wear after sticking it back mah.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. @ Twilight Zone:
haha, Thambee wears Naiki and Arumugam wears Ferragamo!! eh, Thambee saw those at cobblers, they are honey color dei, just good enough for fixing the shoes lah, don't need that super glue than can stick marble slabs together right?? wow, so strong!! Thambee better use this honey color one, not so strong on our skin, because still can peel off when it dries.. but strong on shoes and leather!! Thambee and Kamala don't need glue to stick together lah, Thambee and Kamala already got love that stick them together.. Arumugam want Thambee to buy one for you and Letchumi?? :D

    @ foongpc:
haha, you want to leave your shoes to the cobbler for one hour and then go to starbucks for a cup of coffee.. without wearing shoes?? or maybe wearing those ugly sandals that the cobble temporary provides you?? that is so unvogue, hahaha!!! hmmm, though already more than 5 years but i don't wear it everyday, so it's still in good condition.. furthermore only the sole came off, after fixing it back, it's still a good pair of shoes i can wear it out and even for exercise!! save money for i am a poor student~~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  104. @ edward:

    @ Twilight Man:
hmmm, as of now Thambee still haven't came across any other things Thambee can DIY.. when Thambee does that later, sure will share in the blog!! teach people to save money, haha!! haiyoh, Arumugam's shoes bought 10 years back still in good condition.. sure Arumugam only wears it once when dating Letchumi.. after got Letchumi and married, never want to wear that pair of shoes bought by Letchumi already!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  105. @ Horsoon:
yeah, if can save up and DIY why not right?? afterall that pair of shoes is still in good condition.. :)

    @ ladyviral:
the cobbler told me he will use glue to fix it back, if he is going to sew my shoes then better not consider that at all!! what if he make a mess of my shoes?? hahaha, yeah, since i just use less than 10% of that, won't just throw it away.. just keep it in my bag for emergency lah, it's a good idea right?? :D

    ReplyDelete
  106. Haha! Your thriftiness if making me reconsider my spend-thrift-iness!

    ReplyDelete
