amongst all overseas job assignments, i would say the most unforgettable and i feel proudest of, must be the trip to India in May 2006.. i have actually wanted to visit this mysterious country very much, and this opportunity just came by so perfectly that i have no hesitation at all to go over..

  • India is a very populated country, while i was there i seemed like so outstanding among the darker skin crowd.. this is also the first time i felt unsecured to walk on the street on my own, that was why i have hired a personal driver with me for all the 10 days being there..
  • quite a under-developed and poor country, the traffic is a total mess, everywhere is dusty, and cow dungs everywhere (fresh or dried).. and if you are lucky, bet you, you might bump into somebody peeing/pooing like nobody's business on the street..
  • beggars and touters everywhere in India, and tourists are of course their target, and they seem so determined and never gave up to hook on to one.. all of times i just have to get help from my driver to get them to leave me alone.. little tips here, never be kind-hearted to any of them, or else you will get into trouble later..
  • despite the above, i think India has got lots of places to see, especially the historical monuments they have in the land.. not to miss is of course Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world, a sight that makes your India trip incomplete if you have not been there.. i was somehow being fascinated by her mysterious charm, till i was a bit hesitate to leave the place..

it was actually a technical training course, i was given the choice between Hong Kong and India, and i have chosen this Incredible India~~

  1. Wow you have been to India. I have yet to. Have been hearing stories about people getting ill when travelling to India.

Did you read in the papers about tour operators offering tours to the slums of India (after the success of the Slumdog Millionarie movie)? Did you visit any?

  12. Never been to India, but I been to Bangladesh few times and the longest stay was 2 weeks. Felt the same as mentioned by you (soya bean among the cincau, seeing ppl happily do their "business" everywhere etc). Don't think I want to go back to Bangla, but at least there's an attraction in India aka Taj Mahal. But I really wanted to see how Danny does his MV there lo. :)

  19. A colleague on a business trip to Bangalore who stayed at the Oberoi noted the great contrast of poor India outside the hotel and colonial opulence in the hotel. India is fascinating that way.

    Mei Teng:
well i think if you take care of hygiene and eat carefully, that should be ok, i just got minor diarrhoe over there, none big deal actually.. hmmmm, i have not heard about those slums trip, but i wouldn't want to go to any though.. i just am interested to visit the famous spots like Taj Mahal.. :p

    tagnan:

    TZ:
yes, India is always one destination i wanted to go.. and that opportunity just came knocking on my door, lucky me.. :)

  37. Sam Wong:

    Chris Chia:

  38. Grass:
yeah, that was what i thought while choosing between the two.. i would have lots of chances to go HK and going to HK is actually easy.. but India is really a slight chance.. that was why i choosed to go India instead.. :)

    manglish:
hmmm, it was couple of years back then that i got chances to travel around.. but i've become quite station back here in KL now.. anyway, i appreciate what i have had though.. those trips really added sparks to my life.. :)

    Danny:
hmmm, i don't think you would want to go there lor.. besides doing the MV, which you think is gorgeous, i think there are many other things that you would be hindered from by your "standard" and "preference" lor.. hahahaha!! :D

  39. summer:

    fufu:
yeah, i always wanted to see Taj Mahal and that training opportunity really make my dream.. well, guess you gotta find a Maharajah there to be your sugar daddy already.. :p

    K|E|E|N|Y|E|E:
hmmmm, i think at least New Delhi is better than Bangladesh.. so i guess those were great experience for you to be working in Bangla so many times?? hahaha.. yeah, imagine Danny wearing the coli and sari, with all the bling blings, dancing and chasing the dancers around bushes and trees~~ fantastic man!! hahahaha :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wois:
because Chris has been there too many times already.. for me, i like to go before i have been.. after i've been there, i think once is enough.. hahaha!! i think you will have the same feeling too if you happened to go there in the future.. :)

    Gratitude:
hmmm, actually i just covered a small little part of India.. just the golden triangle at northern india.. i really see lots of attractions and, like you said, the diversity of the Indians.. diarrhoea, should not be a problem if you take care of hygiene and eat carefully.. i didn't have that problem while i was there..

    Medie007:
yes, it was magnificent!! i was like stuck to it and don't feel like leaving the place.. no wonder it's one of the wonders of the world :)

    Chin Weng

  42. HappySurfer:
i went to New Delhi instead, and i guess should not be any better than Bangalore.. i can see the contrast like what you've mentioned.. everyday i travelled to another place for training, which is newly developed resembling the silicon valley, from the place i stayed near the city center, where you find the central train station and all mess you could ever find in India..

    khengsiong:

    Tekkaus:
are you sure you've not been to any other countries?? well, you should plan for it with your wife lor, travelling actually let you see more and experience more.. hmmm, just gotta hire a personal driver, for safety and to make sure that i will not get lost.. but most importantly i don't think i want to get into their trains.. you know why don't you?? hahah!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. the happy go lucky one:
haha, couple of years ago, but now seldom have the chance to travel around lor.. hehe, i wasn't a Thamby back then, so never feel any homey woh.. hahahaha :D

    uLi.
actually India is not everyone's cup of tea i would say, you'd either love it or hate it.. for me, the Taj Mahal is something i would like to see as well as the Indian people's diversified culture.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rebecca Kheng:

    Ayie:
yeah, that was couple of years back when i got plenty of opportunity to go overseas for work assignment.. well, i gotta agree with you, despite all those oddities, India is really a nice place to visit.. the landmarks and structures, the culture and incredibleness.. Taj Mahal is already a splendid thing to see there.. hmmm, good luck for your Germany opportunity!! it's a nice country also.. and i love german sausages~~ :p

    Chris:

    foongpc:
hmmm, just gotta beware when you walk lor.. hahaha!! but most of the time i'm inside the car, or else it's quite difficult to move, cos you'd be the target of many beggars and touters.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. ladyviral:
yeah, no joke!! i really saw them doing it on the streets like nobody's business.. guess the people there are quite used to this already?? well, i went to the northern india territory, supposed better than the southern ones.. :)

Lesly:
wow, backpacking to india huh?? it's definitely a nice place to visit, and i think it's one of the backpacker's paradise too.. but while i was alone there, i just dare not take the challenge, i hired my own private car and driver, to get him escorting me anywhere i wanted to go.. or else you just gotta rely on their notorious train system - but again it might be an experience.. depend what you are looking for :)

    HR:

  49. Ayie:
hmmmm, so there's just no chance for a freelancer to go over to Germany for the project?? well, maybe you can talk to your boss, things might work out.. or maybe that could be a contract model?? :)

    HR:

    ReplyDelete
  50. freelance can go anywhere if you have project in that place coz ocular inspection and surveying is very important. Just like that El Nido trip I had.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ayie:
i see.. it's quite different from here.. most of the time freelancer won't have the chance to be assigned with overseas job.. companies will send permanent staffs to do that..

    ReplyDelete
  52. ah ok, it's not that kind of freelance also...i'm not a freelancer employed outside, I get my own contracts and do my own projects. =) that's why

    Twilight Zone:
haha, Arumugam is thinking of going back to the motherland?? i didn't take their local flight, i flew straight to New Dehli, then hire my private driver to drive me to Agra and Jaipur.. but i think you can try taking their local flights, should be a good experience besides the train, hahaha!! you are only going to Jaipur?? not going to Agra?? i think it would be nicer if Arumugam is dancing around the trees in Taj Mahal, so romantic leh~~ :p
