[Volume 9 Issue 12, #1980]
The Eating and Look-See Trip in Ipoh
nope, i didn't just come back from Ipoh but it was a stop-by on the way back to KL from Penang couple of weeks ago.. just want to get this posted before the new year comes, you know, i am not one who likes to drag my travelogue for years as i always believe "freshness from the oven".. if i keep dragging, i'd feel like myself lagging behind while others have already moved on far ahead (no offence intended), haha!! so, just a quick one for Ipoh, as i know many have been to this place and elaboration is not necessary.. to briefly wrap up this trip, i'd say i did the same thing like i did in Penang - see mural paintings and eat!! hahaha, enjoy the photos below anyway.. :p

    4. Photo A ... I took a moment to admire the drawing of this old man sipping coffee. It was quite tough to paint so huge using the wall as canvas! It is definitely cheaper than asking my company to print a huge sticker to paste that wall but it is outdoor, so forget about wall stickers!

    5. Photo B....this Marilyn Monroe was well painted with her signature white dress flowing and blonde hair. I just giggled at her face which looked a bit Chinese to me.

      Delete
    6. Photo C... That was cute to see 2 boys on paper plane! Someday Anay & Thambee should snap photos too and blog la. We don Indian doti clothes and fly magic carpet holding coconuts like our femes Raja Bomoh. Lol

      Delete
    7. Photo D.... I had no idea where & what is there in Gunung Rapat. Only heard the name somewhere nia. I do know that Perak towns use coconut husks to bake traditional cookies like coconut tarts and chicken biscuits. Honestly I don't think the smoke from husks made the food tastier but it was the very slow burning husks that made them fragrant. These days with the big orders and tedious husk drying process, the factories are using very slow electric ovens instead to meet demands and prevent pollution.

    8. Photo E... The Chinese style pastries looked good and pretty in unique colours. When I was a kid, they all looked the same colour with different fillings inside like kaya, peanut or beans only. These days you could even find peanut butter, strawberry jams, Nutella and what nots inside the pastries! Muahahahaha

    9. Photo F... Now this photo confirms that it is Perak styled Laksa as they serve like this in letchumy's hometown at Kampar. I never liked it for years until I swtched my brains to accept it as their native noodles and not to keep comparing with Penang Assam Laksa. I immediately love this overnight!!

      Delete
    10. Photo G.... Everyone loves their Chicken Rice and sprouts combo. I dare say they were the first to serve with sprouts in our bolehland. It makes a meal less yukky with too much meat while munching veggies. Have you tried their branches all over Klang Valley?

      Delete
    11. Photo H.... I really dunno it is called Hor Hee and you didn't give Anay any explanation pula. Maybe I should ask Letchumy.

      Delete
    12. Photo I.... A very loaded seafood noodle for your over loaded tummy. You guys ate so much in one day!!! Oh My Dewa Goodness!
I don't recall seeing this in KL or Penang, just different but I know I will love the sweet soup aroma with all catches from the sea.

      Delete
    13. Photo J... Hey your slippery smooth thing sounds so sexy slurping down your deep throat. Aiyoooo! Some more served inside the car like lovers sharing ice cream and cuddling away! Muahahahaha
Why you don't like black sugar to go with it!..??

      Delete
    14. Photo K.... Waaah! Waaah! You guys stopped at Bidor lagi! I surrender lah. Your capacity is so good and your tummy could expand like those luggage with zippers for space expansions! Oh my dewa goodness!
I tried the duck soup noodle once only as I always rushed to Kampar instead with my in-laws waiting for dinner or lunch. Now Kampar is history so I should stop Bidor more often.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the story started with the Teochew people in Ipoh.. the Teochew call fishballs as "hur yee" but because most people in Ipoh are either Cantonese or Hakka, they cannot pronounce "hur yee" properly, so eventually it becomes "hor hee"~~ :p

      Delete
    2. Oh I see, thanks for the explanation SK! I heard about hor hee but never wonder why is it named like that, haha!
Anyway, I learn something new today~

    ReplyDelete

    1. errr, semi-drive-through i guess.. because they are selling by the roadside, and coincidentally not much cars and people the morning we went, so we just ordered from inside the car and was served :)

Glad that you guys made full use of the trip and time, since you won't know when is the next time you have such chance again ma right? I guess everyone is busy with life/works so when there's a chance like this, must make full use.

High 5! I am like you, don't like to drag my travelogue for years!! Erm okok years is a bit exaggerated, should say for weeks/months ;)
Not only will this bore my readers, but I am worry I will forget about the details of the trip to share with my readers too, so I will do my best to complete the travelogue as fast as possible, then continue on with other topics.

I see some bloggers drag their travelogue til months away, until I also forget that he/she actually went to that country before... Hoho!

The laksa looks a bit different, the noodles I mean, and looks like a big bowl there (not sure if that's the photo angle issue). Fried stuff also is one of my favorite, I like the crunchiness, I am sure they have special sauce to go with it too, right?
Erm, as for the nga choy kai, okok la, nothing so special to me...
Hor hee, I have no idea, why ar? I know Old Town kopitiam's menu got hor hee...
Seafood noodles looks yummy, so much 'liu'!
Taufoofa, another favorite thing I like! This one you went I bet is the famous one in Ipoh, long queue one, but service is good, the staff will come and take order from you even if you sit inside the car, then he will come and bring you the orders and collect money. Not just taofoofa but their soya bean drinks is very yummy too! Arrr miss it!
