18.10.2012 | 電腦作畫

[Volume 7 Issue 10, #1571]
parents with kids at home, is it true that nowadays kids in first year of primary school are already required to use computer to complete their homework?? the picture above is what my nephew in his first year of primary studies asked me to teach him, using Microsoft Paint to draw a copy of the same picture on his textbook.. if using freehand drawing i think he has no problem and can have it done in 10 minutes, looks simple but when required to use that ever "sophisticated" Microsfot Paint, even i did that with him together, we spent almost an hour!! because there is no Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, and when there's some mistake made there is no click and Ctrl+Z!! furthermore he told me the teacher didn't teach them this, can it be the teacher has no idea how (or perhaps too lazy to teach) to get this done, and just get the kids to complete them at home?? rather interesting, i remember i only so-called started to use a computer when i was in high school, and even pressing one key i have to confirm with mates that it is safe before doing so, hilarious!! hahaha~~ :D

Hey, I thought you will be busy for the whole week but still managed to grab the first sip, tsk, tsk!

Another big liar like meow meow, said she would slow down in spamming but emerged as the weekly/monthly as usual! Now I must add STP in my "Liar List" already.

  3. They have computer studies in primary school, I think...but I guess it is outside the curriculum, I'm not too sure.

No need to say about computers - these days, you ask any young people, without the calculator, they just cannot count!

My time, we had to stand at the back of the class and the teacher would shoot us with questions and we had to work everything out in our heads and answer. The subject was called mental arithmetic.

  9. hotkeys or shortcut keys was really helpful in using such program but still that was just an option perhaps since you're teaching your nephew starting with the basic was not a bad idea at all

  10. SK, maybe you don't use Microsoft Paint regularly, it's quite easy to use. I use it frequently for my documentation. Once the drawing/text is "confirmed" you can't cut or copy it. And the Ctrl-Z is restricted too, I think you can only undo two or three items.

I think SK is doing it for free.

It's norma for the kids to ask the uncle to help with homework if the parents doesnt know how to or too busy to help them.

It's veru nice of SK to help out like this especially he is rushing to do his dissertation.

My time if caught with porn Tape in school will get kick out from school leh. Let alone making the tape.

  16. The same kids could even participate in a short movie making competition organized by the school. They were only allowed to use mobile phone to film and the students were the actors and actresses. No editing or special animation could be done with the iPhone yet they were so amazing and creative to add special effects like thunder, lightnings, rain and blood. They used normal lights, water hose and even chicken blood to do it. I think SK 's nephew will belong to these brilliant era.

  17. SK, your nephew's assignment looked so familiar to me. You are such a good uncle. Guiding your nephew for 1 hour to finish this assignment. Thumbs up for your patient, effort and time.
By the way, last year when April was in Primary 1, she did one Microsoft Paint assignment too. I just briefly told her. Then she completed the whole assignment with colours in less than 45 minutes.

    I blog about it here.

    1. I still remember I brought my laptop in my holiday trip to KL in June last yesr. She did it in the hotel room.

The assignment was to teach the children to use different shapes to form a picture like yours. April did a bus on the road.

She needed to print it out after that and passed up to the teacher.

April had just gone through a theory and also practical test in Computer last week.

I think your nephew was in the same syllabus as my April.

      Delete
    2. Later on, April also requested to teach her to send email to her teacher's email account.

Then, I also taught her to use Google to find images as per her teacher requested too.

I could remember a few computer assignments from last year till this year.

Your nephew is so luckily, he has an uncle who is so well versed in computer.

My girls are lucky too, heheheh, their mom is a fast learner in IT. kekekekeke!

    3. Somemore I am so boastful and telling my girls. Luckily, your mom knows computer, see, there is no issue at all for mummy to help you in all these.

I know I should be humble. Some time, I just can't contain my pride.

    4. Sometime I let my girls type Chinese characters on computer. They take very long time to do that. I have no patient, I always want to finish the assignment quickly fo them.

But, if I finish it, they can't learn it themselves. So, I just have to bare with it and let them explore the tool slowly.

      Delete
    5. My April loves her computer lessons. She enjoys all the drawing and designing tools that her teacher taught her.

She reported what she learned in computer to me. She scored 98% in her primary 1 computer subject and got a trophy in the year end.

    6. Frankly, if the kid's house has no one whom the kid can turn to for help in Computer. The kid may get lost easily in this subject. We bought a desktop early last year, just to let my April learn the different parts of the computer, such as CPU, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, and etc.

This year she even learned the colour palette, redo/undo, background/foreground, insert pictures/text/shapes, printer and scanner.

In Chinese school, my girl needs to attend computer lesson fo 1 hour (2 periods) in a week.

She brought back Computer homework occasionally only.

Looks like kids is using computer so much for their homeworks. Really kesian those kids from poor family who cannot afford to have a computer or internet connection at home. How are they going to do their assignment.
