[#1255] local paper The Star in partnership with Dulux paint ran a "love jalan sultan, preserve our heritage" campaign i was there at noon to witness that activity, though not seen any overwhelmed crowd, the passion of the artists and supporters under the hot sun was enough to inspire that harmony spirit of treasuring heritage regardless of their backgrounds..

dear bolehland government may never appreciate heritage, or shall i say this is because they think the history does not belong to them?? most of the time bringing in technologies that are almost obsolete from other countries, determined to execute for bottomline profit albeit the lack of comprehensive long-term plannings, and still feeling proud of themselves for running such (already 20-year late) projects.. in their thoughts, development equals going for the new and demolishing the old, but haven't they realized countries that they are learning from has long treated heritage as their most valuable assets?? well, not surprisingly, bolehland government just like to dump hard-earn money into nowhere mercilessly and expressionlessly~~

  4. Yup...I also heard that they will preserve the place...which is good. Hope they will restore it to look as it does right now - original, authentic...and not make it into some kind of fairyland...like Penang and Malacca or worse, Singapore.

  32. knowing that it is a century old building, it truly deserved to be protected and to be preserved... we have so many heritage sites here in the Philippines too but unfortunately but they failed to preserved most of them... lack of action from the government maybe

    ReplyDelete
  33. what is bolehland government SK? Okie lemme check it on the web first...

    ReplyDelete
  34. got it from the web :
The term Bolehland or BolehMan's land is a generally a name used by Malaysia haters to trample Malaysia.

    is that correct??

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think they should also pay attention to taking care of those heritage sites... it will not just save the history and memories surrounding that place but will also improve the tourism if ever./.. oh God.,.. this is what exactly our Government need here

    ReplyDelete
  36. happy blogging SK.... whoops! I know I missed some of your post so I have to read them again ^_^

  37. Oh you were there to witness the painting. Not aware of this, never buy badnewspaper else might make a trip there. Is this permanent or only for awhile?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bananaz will be there every month for his haircut a few blocks down the road. The saloon's biz would be affected in future and wonder how they are going to survive without income for a year even though their block is 'saved' but they can't operate their biz during the renovation.

    ReplyDelete
  39. heritage? what heritage? I don't see any heritage in my place here?

lol~ sorry, nobody cares for heritage here. The building are so darn old and the color fade and 'skin' peel.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think Dulux should pay a visit to my town... preserve our heritage~~

    ReplyDelete
  45. wow, you were there to witness the campaign!! so good of you to support preserving the heritage.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. yay, i do think heritage is a wealth to the nation and the government should by all means try to do their best to preserve them..

    ReplyDelete
  47. but again you are right, from what we've seen so far, the more important thing is the bottom line benefit.. whether to preserve heritage or listen to the people's voice is just secondary to that..

    ReplyDelete
  48. @ Small Kucing:
errr, the new thing was that i actually walked over to that place to witness the campaign, for the past i actually will not even bother to do this, haha..

    @ lina:
hey, how come you become a copycat already?? ok ok, same reply to Small Kucing, i actually walked over albeit the hot weather, for the past this is something i would never do lah.. :D

    ReplyDelete

    @ Medie007:
oh really?? dismantle and build it back?? then that's not an heritage somemore..

    ReplyDelete
  50. @ suituapui:
hmmm, i also heard that they will adjust the route of the MRT so that the heritage will be preserved.. but i don't think they will do any restoration, let's not expect they will do extra.. they have dump 10 times more money than it should be for the project, do you think for their bottom line they will bother about the heritage??

    @ HappySurfer:
yeah, i read your blog and went there after i've done my things, so it's already mid-day when i was there.. anyway, i don't need to chinatown tour lah, i think i'm good about the place, just that i'd need to read up for the history, haha~~

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ Pete:
but i really don't think our government make those old buildings as tourist attractions.. the whole focus around that area is Petaling Street selling pirated stuffs~~

    @ Hayley:
hmmm, but sad to say, our government just promote Petaling Street and hence the pirated branded stuffs instead of the surrounding old buildings lor..

    ReplyDelete
  52. @ Daniel Chiam:
well, i think they don't just see the money ON the table, but more importantly the money UNDER the table, haha!! that's how the bolehland government do things, everything is money and bottomline, that's why they are dumping 10 times more money that it is supposed to be for the MRT project..

    @ CH Voon:
oh you were there too?? around what time you were there?? i didn't see you?? well, it's really sad that the government really doesn't appreciate those heritage, maybe they will just build all the new and big mosques but not preserving the chinese culture and indian temples at all..

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ wenn:
of course they should be preserved!! these are heritage and wealth to the nation..

    @ lina:
well that is exactly how the bolehland government works right?? or else how can we spend 10 times money of what it is supposed to be??

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ Alice Law:
errr, not really lah, just happened that i was around there so just walk over and have a look.. i am not any celebrity also, so no need to stay far away from the media, they are not interested in me also lor, haha~~

    @ Yee Ling:
yes, often they just try to say something to favor the people but what they are and have been doing are just something so different.. only if there is profit and benefits, then they will not bother any consequence but to make sure they are getting the advantage.. so what for what they've said, it's a norm they will make up another story to cover up their explanation later.. so this is call "boleh"~~

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ Sheoh Yan:
definitely.. as long as there is benefit for them, they really don't mind creating absurd stories to cover up what they have said to the public earlier..

    @ Isaac Tan:
ok, when you say "our" i presume it's not the islamic culture?? they do preserve islamic culture and even build new and bigger mosques to replace the other cultures and heritage.. don't they??

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ mNhL:
haha, i also realised that the recent few post are all complaints, haha!! just a coincidence lah.. never mind, i will blog about something else then, seems that my readers prefer funny posts instead.. :p

    @ iamthewitch:
hehe, i didn't really purposely go there, just was around there and no harm walk over to see what's happening.. hehehe, of course i know you prefer to stay indoor to enjoy your good food~~ :p

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ Kian Fai:
errr.. you are right, 茨廠街 is Petaling Street but not Jalan Sultan, i just read what was painted on that building only.. hehehe, of course the more people the merrier mah, only with more people then we can show how much we care.. imagine only one artist doing the whole thing, that is not convincing enough right?? oh, so what is the other stories behind that you've heard about??

    @ foongpc:
well heard that they will adjust the MRT track to not cut through this area.. with that i will presume they will preserve the heritage.. or maybe not preserve cos they did not do anything to protect, maybe "ignore" will be the better term, haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. @ reanaclaire:
haha, very true!! maybe 10 years later, there will not even be a History subject, but maybe a subject on Modernisation (the so-called effort to be a developed country)..

    @ Casendra:

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Kelvin:
well, soon one day they are going to regret for what they have done.. heritage is also wealth for the nation, i am pretty sure there are many other alternatives to boost the economy, just that they are not willing to make more comprehensive planning and considerations but only having bottomline in their mind.. that's very sad when you know they choose not to try and straight away giving excuses on everything they are objected for doing..

    @ bluedreamer27:
haha, yeah, that little button is to reveal some extra text to explain more on the campaign.. yes, everyone of us are now trying to preserve our heritage knowing that they are part of the wealth of the nation.. just that the government most of the time did not even consider alternatives to their development but just to replaced all old things with the new (not really new to other developed countries) infrastructure.. but i'm glad that after protest from the people, they are adjusting the track of the MRT to detour that area in their effort to "preserve" the old buildings.. well, maybe not preserve since they are not doing anything, i'd say the word "avoid" is more appropriate, hahaha!! hahaha, now you understand the term "BOLEH" huh, it's actually a famous term meaning can or able to, that was popularized by our former PM.. yes, you are right, history, culture and heritage are all important wealth to the nation, they just can demolish them all just like that right??

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ Bananazஇ:
hehe, i read this from HappySurfer's blog and since i was around there that time, might as well just walk over and see what's happening there.. really salute those artist who work under the hot sun sending their message to preserve the heritage sites.. oh, which saloon you are visiting?? those old style saloon, indian operated ones?? haha.. well, no idea if the paintings are permanent or not, but with malaysian's always forgetful attitude, guess they will just stay there until the paint fade lah.. :D

    @ yvonne:
haha, i thot there's a very nice Kellie Castle at your place?? hmmm, maybe Dulux has other marketing purpose for supporting this campaign also lah.. hey, you should write to The Star or Dulux about your suggestion lah, as Dulux to sponsor paint for the old buildings in Ipoh, i think there are still a lot of century-old shops there right?? hmmm, you are right, they just love to approve the building of new and bigger mosque lor~~

    @ victor:
yeah, i was around there and just thought no harm to walk over and have a look and show my support, haha.. right, i do agree with you that heritage and the people's voice never come more important than their bottom line benefits.. that is really something so saddening right?? the heritage should be preserved as they are the nation's wealth..

    ReplyDelete
  62. i hate ppl who disrespect, disregard, dishonour their history or heritage. being in the architecture field, am always on the lookout for heritage buildings and stuff, and i cant help feeling sad whenever i see those in disrepair or crumbling conditions. :(

  64. @ kyh:
ooopss, so you must be very angry when you heard the constructions of the MRT and Mega Tower are going to destroy all the heritage right?? haiz, but what else can we do, the authorities just care about the money..

    @ edward:

    ReplyDelete
  67. Once the govt has preserved them, the dwellers will let it rot again without maintenance to upkeep!

    ReplyDelete
  68. It will be back to square one unless they come under a law to protect these heritage buildings like in Singapore and even China!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think you will agree that the most tedious and difficult heritage preservation ever carried out is in Angkor Wat. They are still doing it today, after so many years.

    ReplyDelete
  70. You can see the foreign true spirit of the UNESCO and how they will lay the rules to protect the buildings after preserving them.
