由原先RM3.99變成RM4.39!!

[#1236] went to "Carfool" to get some yoghurt this morning, and i noticed the prices were different for different flavors albeit the same product.. of course your (smart and thrifty) friend has chosen the cheapest one, still felt a little weird, i double checked the barcode to make sure i've taken the right one.. in the end?? it went from RM3.99 to RM4.39!!

of course i felt cheated and straight away hopped over to the customer service counter to ask for refund of the difference.. actually i've encountered the same thing few times before with this outlet, was that purposely or unintentionally?? luckily the experienced me instinctively took a photo of the price tag.. with that solid and valid evidence, no way for them to argue!! though just only 40 sen, i thought it's not about money but about being cheated.. anyway i saw them taking action immediately, kind of proud of myself for having done something good for other customers actually~~ :p

  1. dude, you done the right thing... i will also do the same to request for refund even though it's only 5cents. It's i felt cheated ...

    ReplyDelete
  2. ya, it's not about the money..it's more about the integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yeah, I kena a lot of times not only at that outlet. :(

    ReplyDelete
  4. That's why my eyes never leave the screen where the prices will come up when the barangs are scanned. What's it called anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sometimes, when you complain, the staff will say, oh! Prices not updated yet. Like for real. How can you not update prices in the system? No one doing data entry but got someone go and put prices at the aisles? :(

    ReplyDelete
  6. I hate it when we ask for the difference in the amount we paid, we were made to wait for ages while the staff takes their time checking the prices again.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thambee dei, everywhere has price errors everyday. Just open your eyes wider and see lady luck on price tags!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Many times I spotted their mistakes with a smile but my devil heart could not win. I went to inform their mistake and paid higher instead. Gila me!

  10. You are confirmed my Thambee bradder la. I eat gallons of yoghurt often too!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I thought you know how to make fresh yoghurt with fresh cow's milk. Dei ask Kamala teach you again la.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You should start selling your own brand of yoghurt at 99 sen and name it SK Thambee's Yoghurt.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow...that's a 40 cents difference. :p You are thrifty meh bro?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I thought they have a policy of giving the cheaper price without even arguing? :p

    ReplyDelete
  15. Too bad I won't be able to experience what you experienced as the carfool in Malacca has been closed. :p

    ReplyDelete
  16. ya kena many times before. Thats why always checked the receipt before go off. Sometimes they update price in machine but not at the product localtion.

The other day went to one hypermarket. saw mushroom cheap RM12 something. Bght one packet. Check out RM18 something! They put different product at the pric tag there. Dont purposely want to mislead people to buy that or a mistake

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think no carfool, i think other hypermarket have this problems too!

    ReplyDelete
  18. i face same problem in this "Sangat Besar - giant" hypermarket too.

If we, not check the price properly, i think properly we pay more everytime,we go to shop...

maybe, this is mistake or stragery!

    ReplyDelete
  19. wow that's really a nice move from you.. at least now, they are aware

    ReplyDelete
  20. you always have the right to complain especially if it's really something wrong

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree, it is not about the money, it's how you are being tricked whether they have done it unintentionally or the really intend to trick costumers

    ReplyDelete
  22. if ever they are doing it in purpose, then someone should take a move and that's what you did.. kudos

    ReplyDelete
  23. sad but there were times that costumers will simply ignore the issue unless someone is brave enough to complain about it, that's just the time that they will speak up about the issue

    ReplyDelete
  24. You're such a wise consumer... I never bother about prices, just take and pay...and never bother about counting the change either.Easily cheated...me!

    ReplyDelete
  25. You're so observant! I seldom pay attention to the prices when they scan it at the cashier because there are simply too many items in the trolley. But I'd hate to find out if I were cheated even if just 40 cents! hmpf

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good job SK, for discovering the fraut! I encountered the same at many hypermarket too, it's prbably the sambil-lewa attitude tht didin't keep every product update on time.(my 2 cents)

p/s: The Chinese mango pudding is usually serve in Chinese restaurant, I reckn tht's why they name it Chinese mango pudding( I jst recite the recipe name)=)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I must remember to double check the price tag and the scanner on my next visit to the hypermarket....

I can be quite "big-headed prawn" and forgotten to check the price especially when in the rush.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Normally if I found the price to be different on tag and scanner, I would not buy the product and put it back.

    Didn't tell the person-in-charge :p also...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bad consumer, am I? Kekeke...

    ReplyDelete
  33. that is the exact reason why i am not allowed to shop. when i purchase things, i'll just take them, go to counter and pay and not even count the change before keeping the money in my pocket...

once, i did not noticed that i was actually short of dunno how much when they returned the change and i just take it and left.

when i saw my hubs, i just gave him watever there is and he counted and noticed the short-changed.

he was fuming mad, not at the cashier but at my tidak apa attitude.. he barred me from shopping since then.

now, he does all the marketing and grocery shopping. lagi senang! :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. another thing, i dun check for expiry date when i shop! >_<

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  36. By the way, this happens so frequently now at almost all the big hypermarket that you can name of. Not only the one that you mentioned, it also happens at 'Gigantic' and etc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. hmmm.. does this type of things happen often in Malaysia.

In SG, u can refund the item or get it for free is you tel them

    ReplyDelete
  38. It may be just 40sen but it's a whopping 10+%! Good for you, SK! It's wise to be aware of prices. That way, you won't end up paying more, 'fraudulently'.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You did the right thing! I pun kena fews times in Giant. Kena wait in Q pula for the refund.

    ReplyDelete

  41. noob worker working in shopping complex also noob, I think they drunk while they working . . . woot!

    ReplyDelete
  42. if kena complain about price tag sure GG de la lol. my dad got 1 time shoot them kao kao regarding for soft drinks lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. Purposely or unintentionally?? How come you did use your 'trade mark' word ~ accidentally..?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great of you to approach them to get the refund. You should have added with a 'threat' you will make a report to the consumer association. Wonder how much they have accidentally collected the surplus from consumers in a year ~ 0.40sen x 100 bottles x 365 its a whopping RM14,600 accidentally on yoghurt. Really yog-Hurting our pockets. What about the accidental fever on other items besides yogHurt? Fatt tatt lo.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Still prefer those olden days with conventional stickers than this barcode. Had the same experience dunno which supermarket on muesli as the different packets were wrongly placed and all mixed up. Need to check with the barcode reader so gwai maa faan.

    ReplyDelete
  46. hahha! yea i also realized the diff of prices for diff flavors! :s

    ReplyDelete
  47. har?! how can like dat!?! shud just follow whats shown on the price tag one ma. :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. hahaha so clever wor! if me , i will just throw tantrum there~~ xD

    ReplyDelete
  49. but i guess some customers doesnt really care when there is price difference form the price tag as they rushing or just dont care. =/ huhuh

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  51. hmm, its like that hor sometimes. Not sure if its intentional or not, but i see it quite often as well ><

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hmmm, it might be intentional. WHo knows? : D

    ReplyDelete
  53. Since most people don't really bother with just 10 or 20 cents difference, most won't complain. That's how the hypermarket get away with it!

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's good of you to complain with proof some more! Haha!! I doubt I will take all the trouble! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  55. That's why with most customers like me who don't really bother, the hypermarkets cheat lots of people whether intentionally or otherwise! Haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. So it's good to have people like you and also those calculative customers sure will complain haha!! I don't mean you are calculative btw : D

    ReplyDelete
  57. So this happens mostly at Carrefour right? I don't think it happens that often at Tesco or Giant : )

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anyway, I seldom shop at Carrefour. Usually go to Tesco and sometimes Giant : )

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ur case is still ok~
I went to Txxxx , promote price 5.99. scan 12.99~~@@~

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow, that was so smart of you!

    ReplyDelete
  61. wah so dangerous, lucky for u to check the difference

    ReplyDelete
  62. Also need to be careful with value pack. A pack with 2 same item, and claimed to be value pack. sometimes it is much cheaper to buy 2 items separately.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  64. I would the same too 99% of the time.

the 1%? Means I did not noticed hahah!

    ReplyDelete
  65. So did they change it to RM3.99 on the tags or changed it to RM4.39?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Taking a picture of the price tag is a smart move. I will try that next time too... else they will just take their own sweet time going there and next thing you know you got fed up waiting and not wanting the product anymore =3.

    ReplyDelete
  67. i think you just exercise your consumer rights!! be it unintentional or purposely, a difference is still a difference, they should honour the lower price..

    ReplyDelete
  68. normally i won't really check the price, as long as it's not too huge a difference i won't normally realised, haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. guess i've contributed quite some "difference" to the supermarket already yay?? haha, hmmm, i shall be more prudent like you already, 40 sen is still money!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ TZ:
hahaha, you are right, it's not about the money but about being cheated right?? last time when 1sen is still around, i will insist to get back my 1sen change when the cashier told me they are running out of 1sen..

    @ wenn:
right, that is why no matter how small the amount is, it's our rights to ask for the refund..

    ReplyDelete
  71. @ lina:
errr, most of the time i will be busy packing the things into my own grocery bag (i try to not use the plastic bag), so won't be concentrating on the screen lah.. anyway, as long as i found the difference then i'll just complain to the cashier.. errr, i think the one doing the data entry and the one doing the price tagging are different people lah, but just based on the same list from the same people, haha!! anyway, whatever reason they give, it's still a difference and i'll ask for refund, that simple..

    @ Twilight Man:
oh, Thambee think those errors are more prone to promotional items where they change the price.. so Thambee pay especially more attention on those items.. hey, of course we must report the difference!! but normally only when we gotta pay more, if the price scan is less than what we saw at that tag, we just keep quiet right?? hahahaha!!! Arumugam, Thambee has been eating yoghurt very often, last time when Thambee was working, breakfast is yoghurt and muesli!! so healthy dei.. somemore drinking the yoghurt drink can help slim down the body!! hahahaha.. aiyoyo, just go buy from supermarket lah, Thambee not willing to see Kamala did so much things just to get Thambee the yoghurt!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  72. @ Tekkaus:
yeah, that may be just 40 send but it's actually more than 10% difference!! now think about that, hahaha!! yeah, i complain because the price is higher, if the price is lower, of course i'll take for granted they honour the lower price right?? kekekeke..

    @ Small Kucing:
yeah, now i always check the receipt before leaving.. as long as i am paying more than i see on the price tag, i will go for a refund.. that one 40 send only, but then it's more than 10% difference, so consider a huge gap right?? wow, your case is worse!! RM12 becomes RM18?? that's 50% more leh, must ask for refund!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. @ CH Voon:
haha, of course not only carfool lah, other places also have the problem.. but the bad thing is, i experienced many times with carfool lor.. so this gives us a lesson - check your receipt in details.. :D

    @ bluedreamer27:
yeah, although it's just a small amount but being a consumer i just have my rights to get back the refund.. i don't care if that's intentional or accident, but i don't like being cheated.. maybe they have not updated the system or they did not change the price tag, i'm just helping them to synch~~ :p

    ReplyDelete
  74. @ suituapui:
hmmm, i am always prudent when it comes to money.. checking my change is a must and a habit i have, and now seeing so many price discrimination, i think it's good to check your receipts before leaving too..

    @ iamthewitch:
oh, of course i can't be bother to look at the screen when they scan because i'll be busy packing the items into my grocery bag.. i only roughly scan through the receipts, and to find any suspicious items.. paying particular attention to promotional items, because they price tag and system data might not be updated due to the change..

    ReplyDelete
  75. @ Alice Law:
errr, yeah, although just 40 send but it's actually more than 10% difference, i just gotta get back my money.. haha, that's why i pay attention to promotional items because they will just forgotten to update the system while the price tag already updated.. haha, maybe you can call that pudding after your name also lah.. Alice Mango Pudding, so nice right?? :p

    ReplyDelete
  76. @ khengsiong:

    @ yvonne:
haha, yeah, scan through your receipt before your leave just like you would check your change.. especially on promotional items, because they change the price tag, most probably they have not updated their system too.. so better be observant so that you don't pay more.. hmmm, unless i know the difference beforehand lah, then i'll not buy the thing.. else sure i will want my refund back..

    ReplyDelete
  77. @ Merryn:
hahaha, so that is good or bad?? good that you don't have to do the grocery shopping anymore; but bad is that you are refrain to shop for the family.. haha!! anyway, best is that you use credit cards lah, sure won't have short-change problem, haha!! aiyoh, if you are my customer then how nice, i can cheat you easily, hahaha!! hmmm, expiry date!! i sure will see that, though rarely the supermarket will sell expired products, but it's a good habit!! just like the other day, i found an expired yoghurt in carfool.. luckily i checked as i almost took that..

    ReplyDelete
  78. @ Sheoh Yan:
hmmm, this is called deceptive pricing, it's one of the tactics i learnt in my course, haha!! that is why, i pay particular attention to promotional items, because most probably the price tag says so but the system data is still the normal price.. happens everywhere..

    @ Robin:
errr, we can just get refunded for the difference.. so you can get the things for free in SG if you spot the price difference?? oh, that's very good..

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ HappySurfer:
oh yeah, it may be just a small 40 sen but then a whopping 10%!! that's why i don't like it and go for refund.. and at the same time it's actually all about being cheated.. :p

    @ Wai Kitt:
i don't mind waiting to get the refund, it's my right to get back the money since they already get hold of my hard earn money!!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. @ Kian Fai:
haha, of course i cannot state the name exactly right, as long as everyone can see the words between the lines.. haha, i will not shoot them lah, but make sure i will get back my refund for the difference lor.. it's just cheating the customers without update the price right??

    @ Bananazஇ:
hehehe, cannot use my trademark too often or else everyone becomes bored with it already mah, haha!! oh yeah, that's really not ethical to collect more from the price difference, that is why, we should exercise our consumer rights to ask for the refund, and to stop them for further cheating the customers!! last time there's one supermarket "simpanan sejuk", that time 1sen is still around, and they always claim that they run out of 1sen and will not give back the 1sen change to customers.. just imagine if they get 1sen extra from every customer, i guess they are making thousands extra a day!! that's not ethical!! yeah, i think with the price sticker on the good itself, the customers are more protected.. but now, to save cost, of course supermarkets are not doing this..

    ReplyDelete
  81. @ Caroline Ng May Ling:
most of the time this happens to promotional items, price tag changed but system data not updated.. that is why we should be more observant, and not let the supermarket take away extra money from us.. i do care about every extra penny i pay to them, imagine if all customers pay extra, then they are making a big fortune out of nothing!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. @ Isaac Tan:
be it intentional or accidentally, still it's a difference and i will never let them get extra money from me, must get refund no matter how small the amount is!!

    @ foongpc:
yeah, some supermarkets use this "deceptive pricing" tactic, which i think is very unethical!! luckily i am smart, as i felt there could be something wrong with the promotional items, most probably price tag changed but system data not updated.. hahaha, lucky me to snap a photo as a strong proof to my claim right?? hmmm, if every customer is like you, can you imagine how much extra money they are getting from their customers?? that will be a big fortune to them from the overcharged amount!! so next time, be a wise consumer, not a good consumer~~ :)

    ReplyDelete
  83. @ Xjion89:
wow, that is really crazy!! RM7 difference?? the difference is more than the product price itself!!

    @ Hayley:
haha, yeah, i just don't like the hypermarket to cheat me.. though just 40 sen, but still money right??

    ReplyDelete
  84. @ Naomi:
yes yes yes, i pay particular attention to promotional items.. because i think most of the time they changed the price tag but did not update the system data at the same time.. and i always calculate bundle packs lah, only if cheaper to buy together else i'll just get the single item..

    @ edward:

    ReplyDelete
  85. @ ladyviral:
yeah, it's our rights to get back the money they overcharge us right?? even if it's just a small amount, and afterall it's also about being cheated that we must react.. hehehe, not that i take photo everytime, just that day i had 6th sense there's some problem, and was lucky i did that!! haha.. errr, i didn't know whether they changed or not, but at least i got my refund..

    @ victor:
oh yes, of course they should always honour the lower price.. if higher price they refund, if lower price they absord, haha!! hmmm, i don't always check in details but i always calculated a bit before paying, so i roughly have an idea how much i'm gonna pay for the things, if the difference is huge then sure there's some problem already.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Don't want lar... scared to name ppl's recipe and product under my name, later tanpa pasal kena sue for violation of something something...:p

    ReplyDelete
  87. Thambee still eat yoghurt to slim down? It didn't work, rite?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thambee need to eat only yoghurt for 5 days as lunch meals and other meals just normal la... Like that can drop 5 kgs. I tried it before and worked.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Like Panda said, I also prefer Tesco and Giant instead. I think it's the layout that attracts me.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Now it is Raya festive and I just came out of Tesco and Jusco today. The crowd was crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  91. You know what? The hypermarket had price errors of course. I remembered Thambee's blog here!

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Japanese one no problem. It made me start to ponder the reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I concluded that it is the system that works! It could minimize human errors with their QC follow up which saves money at the end of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  94. In olden days, the chettiars from India could be so careful and better efficient la dei. How they doit Thambee dei?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I plan to set up a simple business someday. Maybe need to hire Thambee do pricing software dei. Sure can work one. Thambee so clever.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  97. I used to be ignorant in checking bills and simply paid. It all started when restaurants often gave me wrong bills or overcharged me by mistake. I started to open my eyes wider.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Eh what happened? The comment spammed itself passed 100 times! Got ghost la... Eeeeeee !!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. @ Alice Law:
hahaha, i think if you can just add in a little bit of your own creation, then can name it after yourself already mah, right??

    @ Twilight Man:
oh really?? then Thambee musttry eating only yoghurt for lunch!! but have to do it next month, because this month Thambee needs to eat McD again to collect the Smurfs toy!! blardy hell!! Thambee rarely goes to Tesco because the place is so far away and not convenient for Thambee lah, normally Thambee only goes to those in shopping malls, that's why Carfool and Justgo and Gergasi will be those that Thambee frequent lor.. hmmm, actually there's one pricing strategy in business call deceptive pricing, so maybe all those hypermarkets are using this, to cheat the customers!! but really very unethical, that is why we all need to stand firm and report all discrepancy!! if we pay more must ask for refund, if we pay less must quickly go home!! hahaha~~ what is Arumugam planning to do in business?? selling all those antique brass milk pots Letchumi kept since she was a baby?? haha, pricing software?? no need Thambee do that lah, Arumugam can straight away get decent and cheap POS and Accounting system from the market.. Arumugam, Thambee helped you to remove all those redundant comments, wakakakaka!! ghost?? no ghost here, even if there's a ghost, Thambee will become the ghostbuster!! :D
