[the background]
because of the lack of payroll facility of the bank, we have to issue checks for salary and from there courier to our boss in SG to sign the cheques.. this month while everyone is anxiously waiting the salary before going off for CNY, due to some reason, the signed cheques while ready to be courier back to us, all went missing!! and hence we gotta re-issue the cheques again, but so right that there is not enough cheques left.. so we have to issue one cheque for the total and bank-in to my personal account, after which i need to transfer the money to each of the colleagues..

[the show]
the cheques was cleared today, and immediately i thought i could do the online transfer freely in office.. who knows the limit for transaction is 5000 per day!! no choice i just gotta get my butt up and do the transfer over the counter.. arrived at the bank in a rush, only to realised from the bank manager that i am not allowed to transfer money to colleagues directly, instead i need to issue a cash cheque to myself and withdraw the money, only to bank-in the cash to each of the colleague's account.. where would the hell i bring my cheque book with me together in such an impromptu?? i tried to explain to her that i need to settle everything by today, but she just stood still over the bank's policy.. well, nothing i can do, bank is always enforcing their power right?? so i went back home purposely just to grab my cheque book and back to the bank again.. sweat dripping, i filled in the bank-in slip one by one, so threatened by mistakenly jotting down the account number and amount, it was like 50 years i was using to complete this task!!

[the ending]
i really have no idea why is there such a inflexible and rigid and stupid rules?? the transactions is done exactly the same way i would think a transfer would be done, but why create unnecessary rules to beat around the bush?? absurd!! as a result of that, i left office at 11:30am and only back to office at 2:45pm.. can you imagine how tiring for an uncle to go up and down and to and fro like that??

  5. To sum it all up, you had a pretty sh*tty day. At least it's over now and you had the issue sorted out. Things could have been worst, right? Life is as such, it may dish out situations that we least expect, at the most unlikely of moments. They could be either good or bad too.

To minimise the impact; one of my guiding principles in life is: to hope for the best & expect the worst. Anyway, this brings to mind a big time jaw-dropping incident that happened some 15 years back. This friend of more than twenty years was getting married after dating this very nice guy for 4-5 yrs. Marriage rego was to be in the morning, followed by wedding banquet in the evening. All preparations had been finalised. All invitations were sent out to friends & relatives. Everyone was in high spirit anticipation for the big day; esp. the groom & his family.

On her wedding eve, she dropped a major bombshell like a bolt out of the blue - she decided to call off the wedding! No amount of persuasions & reprimand would change her mind. Imagine the shock, anger & major loss of face to her parents, her in-laws & husband-to-be! And to add insult to injury, 2 months later, she married another mutual friend who is handicapped (polio victim)..Life can be so full of surprises.

And, err lastly, with all due respect; you are only 3*. Still a young man by my std ;) . Don't be too harsh on yourself!

  10. hmm the problem is not really the banking policy -- well you know it's really some i---t who lost all the cheques but then again to look back, it's the problem of a lacking payroll system, so inefficient, inefficient to issue cheques inefficient for you guys to bank in cheque this and that .. so ma fan de? you cant have a payroll set up - direct credit into your bank accounts de?

  11. by the way .. banks are all like that de, here if i withdraw more than 500 pounds at one go from the bank i need to show passport even if i have my cheque book and atm card with me, mafan horr??? it's always harder to withdraw (even your own money) than banking in de la ...

  14. SK ...whatever rules imposed by the banks, at the end of the day is also to protect their customers ... ironically, if you work in the bank, you will know why we (consumers) are being 'burden' with such inflexibility at times ... cheers man ... and wish you Happy 'Niu' Year... ;)

who is Chettiar Kurupan?? by the way i am a techy guy living in the 21st century, all the while what i did was only online banking, so you can imagine how difficult it is for me to handle over-the-counter transaction maa.. ooh?? CNY is coming, how come still no salary?? i thot you just drew Hu-Lu on your door?? :p

    Jonzz:
haha, not a nasty day but a little bit tiring.. anyway, feel happy that everything is settled and my colleagues all got their salary.. :)

    Danny:
hehe, you are right!! at least we still have our salary paid before CNY.. forgotten about my 紅到發紫 story meh?? i'm pretty sure all good luck are coming to me.. hehe :p

    Chris:

    Anon/DT:
errrmmm, think you might have got me wrong from what i have written?? hehe.. anyway, i wasn't harsh to myself at all, i wasn't too frustrated by what have happened, and i don't think yesterday was a shitty day for me.. hehehe!! anyway, like what you mentioned, at least things have been settled, that's over.. now that everyone is happy to have paid for before CNY, they have extra money to spend.. :)

  16. K|E|E|N|Y|E|E:
huh?? how come your salary only paid on the last day of every month?? that is so no nice.. anyway, maybe you have big salary and huge bonus, that's why it takes longer to processed to be paid for you lor..

    TZ:
hehe, that is why i rarely will go to the counter, whatever i can do it online i do it online, easy convenient and hassle-free!! btw, i wasn't any frustrated actually :)

    foongpc:
at least if she can explain clearly why they need to do so.. but not just say cannot and blame it to the bank policy..

    Bob:

  17. csws:
we wanted to have the direct debit facilities from company account to each of the staffs account for payroll.. but only to find out from the bank that they don't have the facility.. i was really puzzled with that actually.. so that is why we have to issue cheques!! of course you need some identification for withdrawal, for any amount i would say.. but for my case, it's different.. i have to make a big round turn, which is unnecassary, before the actual transaction could be done.. and the explanation is nothing more convincing than the "it's our bank's practice and policy"!! see??

    Lifebook:
ooh, don't simple spread the rumours!! i am just a small little ant in the company, nothing big deal.. :p

    tagnan:
    huh??

    HoneyBee:
but if you were kept being told that it's because of the bank's policy and practice that you can't do that + you can't do this + but only allowed to do that.. it's just so not convincing right?? if only the bank can explain why they impose such policy to the customers that is another story..

  18. Alamak. My apologies :p . My imagination & thoughts somehow just went off-tangent when visualising about you running up & down, back & forth in the hot sun; panting away & soaked in sweat. These visuals also incorporated remarks about yourself being overweight & looking old, from your blog a couple of days ago. Just wanted to say that, put in perspective & in comparison; a lot of situations may not be as bad. Anyway, sorry for the confusion (& hope you had a good laugh). Have a great CNY :)

  19. Yeah, my salary normally banked in only on last day of every month. BAD!! Anyhow, late is always better than none. This is how I comfort myself. Big salary and bonuses? Too early to dream la.

  20. Anon/DT:
hahaha, being old and being fat!!! OMG, that is how you were visualising me?? that was like a ball rolling on the floor from office to bank, from bank to home, and then back to bank and office?? hahaha, you owe me that!!! :p

    K|E|E|N|Y|E|E:
first time heard of salary on last day of month!! wonder if the accounts have enough time for their closing?? as for us, things are always flexible.. finger cross for a huge bonus for CNY!! then you can bring me to Ah Yat for dinner already, hohohoho!!! :p

  24. My previous company guideline in SG was "salary on the last day", and they always end up pay in the first week of the following month, which is already considered "on time". All payroll was done by attachment student. Can you believe that?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Vincent:
wow, first time heard of payroll being done by students.. haha!! perhaps you worked in an education related industries?? well, perhaps think another way round, you get your salary much EARLIER than everyone in each month!! haha..
