31.05.2013 | 有獎競賽

[Volume 8 Issue 5, #1729]
i think time isn't good, that's why we see lots of contests giving attractive prizes.. deceivingly campaigns to giveback loyal customers, practically they are just tactics to boost sales for the companies.. anyway, who will not be moved when they see attractive prizes?? but the premise is that, to be eligible in participating, we need to buy their products first.. though i don't think i have luck in these, seeing luxury prizes still gives me hope and (the auntie-ness in me) tempts me to give it a try, haha!! not that i am interested in every contest, those that requires creative slogan, taking photos or writing stories are definitely out of my way.. what makes me participate, besides great prizes and high chances of winning, must be those that only require answering simple questions.. by the way, i've heard that many contests were fake, probably just marketing gimmicks to boost sales, after all not many publicly announced the winners right?? likely there was no prize at all, or the prizes were just loans, or the winners were already internally earmarked.. consumers being deceived, i surely believe there are and have been true cases, what do you think?? :)

  2. I normally don't waste time with these because chances are I will not win, scam or not. However, I think these are genuine contests if they are held in places like hypermarkets and such. On the other hand, I've won a number of grand prizes in lucky draws. Hmm.. you win some, you lose some. Happy Friday, SK!

  3. What you just said is true. All big businesses are hard pressed for better sales every year. They have to hire experts and consultants from CRM and advertising agencies to teach and plan for all their marketing tactics to lure consumers. I was sitting on the CRM seats before so I knew their tricks and trades.

    1. Ah Hua's work is supporting users from Sales and Marketing Department, so I kinda well verse in their 'promoting' strategy. Sometimes I pity the customers who work (sell) hard in their business and being rewarded peanuts.

The Marketing Manager can talk wonders and lures all his customers into believing him.

    2. I served financing for Sales and Marketing department. I know how much money they spend in order to attract customers. Expenses spend on trips, gifts and etc....

    3. well....competition is hard...so have to make sure must be able to compete.

I noticed in the recent year bloggers have been getting more attention from these companies. They sponsor blogger for their contest. Maybe they notice more and more people read blogs instead of getting publicity in supermarket contests

    4. I agree that many people are reading blogs now from the FEEDJIT traffic in my blogs and the emails I received. It scared me a bit for being watched.

As the world changes the media tools and resources will expand. I am sure next time all toilet rolls will have company names in every piece you tear while you berak. LOL

  4. The most popular marketing strategy is the loyalty programs which is more stable than just having contests. However, only big shopping establishments can afford to do the loyalty programs to lure the public. Some have to sign up with Bonus Link to gain mileage.

    1. One loyalty program is not enough, must offer several loyalty programs and they are divided based on different area - men, women, kitchenware, etc.... hahaha.

If possible, I would love to kill my Marketing Manager for giving such brilliant ideas for maintaining 4-6 loyalty programs for his customers and I have to become the cheap labour to safekeeping his precious data and information.

    2. Ah Hua, we have this kind of redemption point system too like Bonus Link... But I think they didn't get the program to be done in the SAP system.

    3. HAIYO>>>these loyalty programme very the troublesome la....You know me lah. very auntie one. end up with millions of these loyalty cards in the purse. Haiz...if money tak apa la...all these cards need to spend money baru get tiny prize :(

  5. It is so tough to survive in today's competitive business world. It is like dogs eat dogs world of competitions to ousts each other without qualms. So scary la. Even the loan sharks and China Dolls have started their own programs too! I better not elaborate their tactics here otherwise I get into hot soups. Ask kuku bird the expert to share his experience.

    1. Wah~ Annay knows about China Dolls programme, too? Share, please... so Ah Hua is aware of their tactics and not live under the tempurung.

Kuku bird is not interested in explaining, he prefers to experience it.

  6. It is true that fake contests had reportedly been organised before especially if the Grand and Top 3 prizes are big. This is not healthy la. I heard they would offer cash for lesser value instead if you prefer not cart home their Grand Prizes besides earmarking their friends as winners.

  7. What to do!!! 生意难做, have to keep on come out with something like this to attract their customers!!!!

  8. I used to enter a few. Won a few prizes but nowadays no more already.

One thing, needs to be buying stuff. Some, A LOT of stuff to enter.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I also don't have luck in this, instead I always ask my friend to join cause the chances to get the prizes are way higher than me!!!! Hahaha!!! =]

    ReplyDelete
  10. Internally earmarked the prize can reuse the prize mah!!! Save money, a lot of big companies love to do that sometimes!!! =]

    1. Hmm, no choice la, economy isn't good now, everyone will try anything to boost the business.
As for this type of contests... I am very materialistic, if requires me to buy their products, I won't give it a try. (Unless the product is useful/practical for me la)

      Delete
    2. Then sometimes, those company will requires you to buy a lot of their product, or keep the barcodes.. I think this is not sincere lo... Hehe..

      Delete
    3. The best is they require no buyings/slogans etc, just register and give freebies, haha xD (I am that auntie too :P)
And speaking of that, some company will ask you to go to their shops to collect the freebies, I'd prefer them to send the freebies to my doorstep, hehehhe :p

      Delete
    4. As for those real contests, I also don't have lucks one la! Imagine there're thousands of contestants there, sure no luck for me la!

      Delete
    5. I don't think there are thousands...but hundreds of thousands entries how to win leh?

      Delete
    6. I also used to think the same but my wife & I have won a few times. So we think it must be purely luck and sometimes the help of gambling ghosts! LOL

      Delete
  12. I hardly join such contest, because I consider myself as unlucky. Moreover, I got a feeling those contests are scam. But if there's promotion, like buy 2-free-1, I'll be more interested :D

    1. Agreed, save time and money. Which i think is more realistic.

    2. I guess most humans love to gamble and there are many smart Alexs to lure them to casinos, contests and giveaways. Now the Nigerians are the best scammers and con artists who have raked in millions of dollars from desperate women! How sad!

  13. The contest which requires creative slogan, photograph or so, scares me away. I'm very bad at these kind of thing. By just dropping my name and address for lucky draw, that I won't mind. I'm so lazy~

    1. Slogan still ok for me... getting me with video and photographs...please no thank you!

    2. I remember long time ago, I win before MILO contest through a slogan entry. I won RM50 lor... first cheque I received. HAHAHA...

      Delete
  14. So what is it to be a lucky winner or not? Since they ask and request you to buy more products which I think we already spend more than we earn from the top 3 gradn prizes anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Those spammers sms request us to send as many as you can only you'll be judge to be a lucky winner or not. Just don't waste your time...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wait you see your phone bill shoot up... pengsan nanti!

Then when you request to stop. They will sintruct you to send another sms which cost another RM1 to cancel! Aiks! earn another RM1

  16. I shall say this is not a contest but a betting game.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I could I say I'm lucky or not? I not even strike any lottery too cos I didn't buy either... hehehe.

    ReplyDelete
  18. On the other side of opinion, Sales & Marketing team is very imaginative, creative and smart to organize all this kind of contest. We couldn't blame their tactics, but they have to strive for more customers to meet their quota and target.

They earn the big compnay salary, they must show some work too!

    ReplyDelete

    1. They are suffering too, have to think for new contest and so on... very san fu juga.

  19. Talk about contest, business and customers. This is all win win situation. When there's a need there's a demand.

It is up to you to join or not. No boundaries. Just wish you guys good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I salute those people who can eventually send out as many entries as they can... really? Spending times and effort entering this kind of contest really deserved to win right?

How if they failed? lose all the energy and money too!

    1. The most crazy contests was the one organized by The Star and everywhere people went to buy up all the newspapers!! Now they dare not do it again cos the public has boycotted them drastically. These days I always see many copies of Star not being sold at 7-Elevens esp on Saturday and Sunday nights!!!!! Usually their readership is highest on weekends but now the newspapers still pile up at night. Shame la.

      Delete
    2. Haiyo I still can remember that...

    3. I think 7 eleven is giving out free copies of The Mail is it? I can't remember the name of the newspaper ady.

  22. 我一向唔信啲乜嘢幸運抽獎,有獎競賽; 凡係有附帶條件嘅有獎競賽,統統都係假嘅。

  23. well I never came to believe such promos
most especially when it was by a popular brand haha
it's easy for them to fake it

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. unlike some small business, like wenn's
they were really true to their words

      Delete
  24. beside, i never won any, and i believe thr bigger the brand
the harder to win, haha it's like a chance in a million
so I better just stick to brands that are best than to those
    who uses such tactics

    ReplyDelete
  25. But I must say, such tactics was pretty effective,
as for most mother's or "aunties" it was
like a melody on their ears haha

    ReplyDelete
  26. In my case, I'd rather et on a lottery than to those contests
i guess lottery has a bit of credibility, but however, winning such was
    a possibe- impossible situation hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  27. hmm even hear in blogosphere, I seldom won contest,
not unless, "spammers" or "first numbers of bloggers to win"
    type of contest

    2. I think the biggest prize I won was cash payouts from 4-D shops lah!!! Ssssh.
The biggest lucky draw prize was a Grand Prize of RM4000 Mont Blanc Pen from a Watch Dealer's Dinner. I gave it to my brother cos I felt it was too classy for me.
