in the world of most of the chinese, especially those who are followers of taoism (but i rather find nowadays many people tend to see taoism and buddhism as one religion already), there are a lot of gods and goddesses who exist in the heaven as well as in the hell, simply this is a world full of deities.. although i am not a devoted one, but when i see altar of any deities i will show my respect, especially we have a place for the goddess of mercy and the ancestors at home, before going out i will offer incense to them.. they say the more you pray the more blessings you will get, but i sometimes think since i pray to any of them, would that actually cause conflicts?? i once heard somebody jokingly said, the buddha and goddess of mercy were in conflict because they are trying to protect the same person who has asked for blessings from both of them!! haha, it's quite a nonsense but just treat this as a joke, as i think most probably it's that they all can stay in harmony.. HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all readers!! :) ■ [disclaimer] ■ |

Good morning, SK & everybody! Happy Halloween! Last day of the month...and after today, I will disappear already... Give others the chance.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Hail the Kng Arthur. You shall not leave the throne yet.
DeleteEih! When is he supposed to go missing ah? Not today ke?
DeleteWhy still here and leave tracks everywhere one? kekeke
So, Arthur Oppa will go missing after Halloween. Wooooooo....
DeleteYou guys celebrating Halloween ke?
I went makan at one American chain yesterday as a treat to Son who loves all things "hantu". SHould go today but today malam my new spinning bike is due to arrive so cannot go out and return late. Kesian lori driver wait for me, nanti. :)
Today 31st mah... Must complete the whole month. Tomorrow, November already, no need liao!!! Wonder when SK will announce the monthly winners... Tomorrow?
DeleteI love Halloween overseas... Ghosts, devils, demons, monsters...everywhere on the streets...trick and treat-ing.
DeleteGood morning Sk, STP, SP, Yan, Yvonne and everyone! Yea, Happy Halloween too~
DeleteGood morning everyone!
DeleteHalloween ah...tarak celebrate leh.
Lina, hahaha...is it TR? I went on Sunday but they belum start the promotion yet . But decoration for halloween is one already. Guess this halloween thingy is catching up in msia.
Now Msia celebrate everything liao.
SK, mana you buy those small deity one? Like the 2nd one from the left. that one is it the longevity god ah?
I have four large deities at home. My husband bought them. So I just display it on top of the cupboard. He just loves deities statues whereas I prefer modern statues.
DeleteMeow,
DeleteThe shops here "celebrate" Halloween purely for profit and marketing purpose lah... and to cater for rich US expats. ;p
woot! woot! So many people already. Morning everyone. Happy Halloween. Today topic isn't about ghost but god. Ok! Shall see what I can contribute to the topic.
DeleteThis topic is very sensitive and I never dare to blog about religions or politics. Everyone has their own strong subjective opinions.
DeleteMe too! I always avoid these topics...and politics...and sex too. Will just delete any comments in my blog on these. Hehehehehehe!!!!!
DeleteGood morning, SK, everyone!
DeleteCute little dolls
Basking in the sun.
Eyes closed, smiling
Thinking, what fun!
Religion is a touchy subject but I always feel it is a very personal thing. Whatever one does, it's strictly between one and his/her higher authority and everyone is answerable to one's own actions.
DeleteHowever, I believe karma is a law of nature - but sadly not everyone sees it that way. My two cents.
True! True! Between you and who you believe in...but unfortunately, many would want you to follow their way...which they will say is the right way, others are all wrong.
DeleteYo people..
DeleteHappy Halloween to you all..
Halloween already half day gone, baru see your shadow...
DeleteGood day and Happy Halloween to all!
DeleteSTP, I thought you are going "missing" after the first comment? How come you are still here at 2PM?
I don't have any deities at home; in laws and hubb aren't very religious (I guess) but my parents have Goddess of Mercy on the altar :)
HS its also quite sensitive, see our SK has transformed into 'Edward Scissorhands' for this post quite busy with his scissor-ing.
DeleteToday is the 31st lah, Yvonne...Missing tomorrow onwards - 1st November onwards. I have to complete the whole month of October mah...today still counted in monthly total, I am sure.
DeleteI'm a Christian but I believe anything that teaches people to be good, to love and respect one another is good. Let us pray that we will always be abundantly blessed each passing day in our lives...
ReplyDeleteRegardless which religion we observed, most important is how we conduct ourselves. All religions teach us the basic common thing - to be filial to our elders, to love, be kind and respect to all.
DeletePrecisely!
Delete"...they say the more you pray the more blessings you will get..." Love is selfless, not selfish. Pray not for oneself but for others and when they are blessed, you too are blessed as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah I pray for you to be on SK's top chart for next 10 years.
DeleteOh no!!! Just this month, and then I will retire gracefully - undefeated champion. Hehehehehe!!!!
Deletenext ten years only meh, TM.
DeleteAfter 10 years, need to review again whether this blog or bloggers still here?? You >> the Small Kucing would have grown into a Big Hamsap Kucing by then. Wakakakakakakaka....
DeleteYa...10 years, I would be 70...if still alive by then.
DeleteYou eat so much good food, sure can live to 100 years.
DeleteHopefully...hopefully....and with everybody's prayers, I most certainly will.
DeleteOh, I'll include all of my beloved blogger friends into my prayer. Giving is a kind of blessing, too.
DeleteFrankly I believe not in, "...they say the more you pray the more blessings you will get", but "the more you be grateful, the more blessing you will get" :)
Praying is a sort of comfort food for the soul. It can bring peace to the mind. When we are stressed or confused, keep silent and pray in the heart will calm us down.
DeleteI always pray before I go to work.
DeleteEvery 1st & 15th I will eat vegetables ..
speaking of praying.. this Friday is Kuan Yin day and I taking a day off to go temple for prayers..
SP, you always take off one. Kuan Yin day also take off to pray. Sure you will be blessed with more $$$$$. Huat ar! Thanks for the reminder, I will go and pray also.
DeleteAiyor...pray for $$$$$ kah? Then pray for some for me also, poor old pensioner, so kesian.
DeleteMorning everyone!!! Happy Wednesday morning!
ReplyDeleteOnly Arthur Oppa here for now?
So sunyi.... xD
Morning, Lina. Cloudy, a bit of rain here. Horror of horrors! Tornado in Miri yesterday - I saw the photos - trees uprooted, roofs blown off...and chairs and tables in a coffee shop blown onto the road. Scary lah!!!!
DeleteSTP, Tornado at Miri?? What happened huh.. Sandy hits US, now Tornado at our country?? :0
DeleteAiyoh... hope everything is well in Sibu. o.O
DeleteSibu, no problem. As always, nothing much ever happens here. Thanks for asking, Lina...
DeleteGee superstorm Sandy had a twin sister in Miri? Talking about storm and flood am sure most must have heard about this joke. A guy at Big Apple climbed to the rooftop when superstorm Sandy hits town and flooded the whole neighborhood. A rescue boat came he but refused to hop in insisted God will help him. As the water level reached the rooftop, a helicopter came but adamantly said God shall rescue him until finally he went up and was furious with God for not saving his life. God replied 'I have sent you the rescue boat and the helicopter'.
DeleteHeard that...different version though. Some guy drowning in the sea.
DeleteHave you heard this one about three sexy ladies, sentenced to death by gunfire?
DeleteThe first one stood in front and as they raised the guns to shoot at her, she shouted: Hurricane! Hurricane! All ran for cover...and she quickly escaped.
Then, it was the second one's turn. As they raised the gun to aim at her, she shouted: Earthquake! Earthquake! Everyone ran for cover...and she too quickly escaped.
The third one, a blonde, saw what had happened...and she could get the idea of what was going on and she smiled to herself. As soon as they raised the guns to point at her, she shouted:
FIRE!!! FIRE!!!!
LOL!!!!
Kekekeke, thanks for sharing the funny story, STP. Good joke with great laughter extent our lifespan :)
DeleteStp also famous of his dirty jokes ..
Deletelol...
Dirty? Where got? This one not dirty at all leh? Simply say one, this SP! Spoil my good name only...
DeleteSK's topic is about Ancestors and religions, please don't talk about hamsap and dirty eh!
DeleteUmmmm....you prayed already today? Come, come, offer up another one...that I will be blessed abundantly tonight...and then I will have the money to fly over to KL again to see you...and everybody else as well. Hehehehehehe!!!!
ReplyDeleteChinese memang lots of things to believe.. All the joss sticks and papers to be burnt...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure are those gods and goddesses really exist, but I did pray during special ocassions, at least I feel better after praying, 有拜有保佑嘛~
DeleteI just follow as in the case of Cheng Beng. I have to pray the ancestors. I'm not sure too if those deities really exist.
DeleteTo me it's ok if we don't pray the other gods and goddesses but we must pray our ancestors..
Deletemy house did not put the ancestor..
Deletemy parents have it in Ipoh house..
ReplyDeleteMy house altar table has ancestors of my husband, Kuan Gung, Tei Zhu Gung, and Ti Gung.
ReplyDeleteOpposite to SK, I pray to all Ang Gungs when I came back from work in the evening. Every 1st and 15th of the Chinese Lunar Month, I will go to Guan Yin temple to pray.
SO, I consider myself as taoism. Almost every Saturday evening, I bring my girls to Buddhist Society to do buddhism chanting. So I am also a buddhism. Like SK said, taoism and buddhism as one religion.
Whenever we need to fill up our religion in a form, there is only option of Buddhism, Islam and Christian. There is always no taoism and Catholic. So, I believe many people also find Christian and Catholic as one religion, no?
I only pray on the 1st and 15th of the Chinese calender too. My husband will buy all those fruits and kuih. Regarding religion, I will just put myself as a Buddhist. But actually I'm considered a free thinker.
Deletethe so-called 'christian' in malaysia actually refers to the branch called 'protestantism', whcih consists of baptist, methodist, presbyterian etc etc. catholics are rightfully considered christians, and the faith itself is a branch of christianity - though minority radical protestants oppose the designation of this. and in the christian world, 'christians' are more than the catholic and protestant branches that we malaysians know. in eastern europe, they have the orthodox christians. in the middle east, they have the assyrians and the coptic christians.
Delete# http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity
Yan this friday you will go for kuan yin day prayers?
DeleteI don't have guan kong in my house ....
I have kuan yin ...
Guan Kong is placed by my PIL in my house. My husband is the only son. So, I have to place all the ang kungs in my house.
Delete"拜得神多自有神庇祐" i believe in this all the while. Don't get me wrong I am not 迷, but I am信.
ReplyDeleteAnd I always think "Hands that Help are Better than Lips that Pray"
All religions want people being filial to elderly, being helpful to others. Buddishm taught me to be filial and helpful.
True. Action speaks louder than words...
Deletedeities only exist as a divine being in taoism. buddhism doesn't preach these. in fact, buddhism is non-theistic - it is atheistic in nature and for the salvation of oneself, one has to depend on his own to escape from the wheel of rebirth. the so-called "clashes between deities" are a traditional folk religion concept, and has nothing to do with buddhism.
ReplyDeletebuddhist concept is essentially 与世无争, so if the buddhas "fight" over the believers, then it will render this very concept self-contradictory.
and the reason why taoism, buddhism, etc gets mixed up and campur-aduk together is due to the syncretism of the original religion with the folk beliefs, and is a norm for many countries. the religion at its very root is free from the influences of each other.
that said, the majority of chinese believe in one thing, MONEY! hahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe in 举头三尺有神明. So, don't do bad things, 天知,地知,鬼神知, the nature of Karma may take control of you one day.
ReplyDeleteEvery one will harvest the fruit that you planted earlier. This is called 自食其果.
agree! some ppl do bad things all his life and we wonder why he still gets to live so freely or blessed with wealth etc... It's just that the time has not come for him to suffer from the karma that he has planted.. 不是因果不报,而是时机未到。
DeletetQ to kyh for the dhamma, sadhu sadhu sadhu. Bananaz dunno considered to a be free thinker or what. No problem going to Church, Hindu or Taoist Temple, Buddhist temple, Sai Bab's temple or even Mosque.
DeleteYan lucky got the Chinese dictionary to help what you commented, people say 'people is doing, sky is watching' haha.
Everybody 早上好 zǎo shang hǎo. Whoa SK posting about gods today. 心中有佛 xīnzhōng yǒu Fó..the temple of God dwells in your heart. Key word when comes to religion is to RESPECT each other's divine faith.
ReplyDeleteThis I sokong 100% - mutual respect, that is most important.
DeleteI also sokong 101%!!
DeleteBut some people just like to mock other religion, sigh....
During school days our teacher always repeatedly say this 'God help those who help themselves' as he knows when near to exam the students would asked their mama to go temple and the best thing is to pray on the students behalf to score or to just to get a pass. STP did you say this to your students as well? This is what we called 'ignorance'.
ReplyDeleteI told the students to read the question papers carefully and follow the instructions to the letter. They ended up looking around and copying from their friends. I asked them why and they pointed at the instruction on every page: SILA LIHAT SEBELAH!!! Muahahahahaha!!!!
DeleteReally SILA LIHAT SEBELAH!!! Just a joke huh good one muahaha
ReplyDeleteEnglish, PTO - Please Turn Over mah...at the bottom of every page, they ask to turn the page to go on to the next one.
DeleteHappy Halloween to you Sk and to everyone!
ReplyDeletewell though im catholic i extend my respect to other religions even i dont understand their culture at all
ReplyDeleteSame here...
Deletei our religion there's only one god but i'm not closing the possibility of existance of other but though im faithful with my god
ReplyDeletein my point of view who ever god you believe in its the faith that counts, Faith that will push you to do noting but good to others and to the world thats the magic of faith it can bring one whole nation as one
ReplyDelete...and if it teaches people to be good, to love one another...then it is good.
Deletehow I wish i can get to know more about your religion too sk
ReplyDeletehave a great and blessed day sk happy blogging enjoy the rest of the day the rest of your halloween
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween! Have fun!
Delete观音和佛祖是不同教的么?
ReplyDeletebudism and taoism . . . I DUN CARE LOL
Deletebasically pray is ok, dun pray on the wrong things lo :X
