[Volume 7 Issue 10, #1558]
the commercial above has nothing to do with what i wanted to blog about today, but considering it's TGIF today, why not relax ourselves after i am going to talk something about elevator.. i remember i've talked about the so-called "etiquette" in taking elevator god-knows-when ago, today i'm going to talk about another irritating act.. initially i should have written about that yesterday but due to my mind-block i came out with an empty post instead, haha.. so what's that irritating act all about?? going between two floors and yet talking the elevator!! i just witness a very fit young guy who tool the elevator to go to his gym which is just one floor up.. why taking the elevator to go up just a floor and wasting everyone's time?? why not just take the stairs, as i think that would be even faster than taking the elevator.. for me i would have chosen the stairs if i am to go up just one floor.. furthermore taking the stairs is some kind of exercise, so ladies if you want to have a nice figure like the lady in that commercial, forget about the elevator and start to take the stairs!! :D

  3. If it's just the staircase in my own company building, I would take it but if in a public building, I will not for safety reasons. I read that advice esp for ladies to avoid taking the stairs because people who are out to create mischief are normally lurking there to try their luck. No, thank you.

    1. Also, going down stairs is really bad for the ankles (it wears them down unlike going up stairs), I read in some health report. So there, doesn't mean one takes the stairs, one would stay healthy, wor.

      Delete
    2. Hold on to the handrail for support...and tread softly. Not only for the ankles...but also for the knees. That's why even young people today have pain in their knee joints. I always bring along an umbrella even when it is not raining to use for support...like a walking stick. The support has done me good - no knee joint problem at mu age, thank God.

      Delete
    3. No such danger in the staircases here but often neglected so you will see all the litter, all the dust that has accumulated over the years...and sometimes, smelly too...and sometimes, the handrail already shaky - doesn't seem strong enough to give much support...and also often very dark, so dimly-lit!

      Delete
    4. I don't have any issues taking the stairs.

Safety wise - I always think that with proper precaution, we can avoid any lurking danger.

And for health wise - well, movement and non-movememnt can affect health. What is preached as good for health now, may be considered bad in future!

Anyway, dangers? Sit at home quietly can be dangerous too! Robbers can come into homes. Couch potatos can be prone to obesity.

      Delete
    5. It's always safer to take the elevator than the stairs for ladies if those stairs are dark and lonely. But it shouldn't be a problem for guys as they can easily run up the stairs. Lina should be able to run up the stairs too as she's a runner. But if just one floor, I wouldn't mind taking the stairs too.

    6. I hardly take the lift. Elevator, yes but rarely.

The highest building in Taiping is most probably 5-storey high only - hotels. And I don't sleep in Taiping hotel. Who needs hotel when the best place to sleep in is my own comfy bedroom.

Most motels here is 2-storey old building, no lift or elevator, kekeke! And you really don't want to step into any motel. The mamasan will drags you into her nest! Business is bad nowadays, LOL!

Some more you know ladies la. wearing high heel. Not goos. baru yesterday saw a neighbour wearing high heel fell off the stairs. Lucky it was from the 4th steps. And the ankle not sprain. It was embarassing for her. Very dangerous if using stairs.

For old folks too. Tiring and then if they fll down anything might lead to fracture leh

breathing secondhand some is not good for our helth lor.

    1. I rather take the stairs.

But both the office and my home - cannot climb up because we cannot acces office floors through the stairs. Same as my apartment. Reason : security.

So despite only needing to go up/down 1 floor, I have to wait for ages for the lfit to come. :(

Anyway, climbing stairs doesn't take long. For a full lift at my FIL's house, the time it may take for the lift to arrive 15 floor where FIL stays, I can climb the stairs and still arrive earlier! I timed my climb - 15 floors usually takes me a little less than 3 minutes. ;)

But then, have to contend with dirty stairs, smelly too. *bluek*

    2. Elevator is available at our shopping malls. Everyone is using it. Sometimes I still prefer to climb the stairs. Drag along my kids to accompany me :p

Not very high wert - 3-storey only and from the entrance door you can see the other exit door. Yes, I know we have the smallest shopping malls here.

That's what we do when we wanted to go to the cinema on top floor. If we want to do some shopping..... nah, there's nothing to shop there.

      Delete
    3. Hmmm...at least we have 5 storeys here. I always say nothing to shop but when ladies from other places come, they will end up with bags full of stuff. So nice, so cheap, they say...

      Delete
    4. When the elevator is down, it is the worst steps to climb! I like to run up the steps when my mood is right.

      Delete
    5. that is different la, Yvonne. If let say in a ,onely stair case, would you bring yur kids and take the stairs? Nanti kena rob how> they harm the kids then susah liao.

Here some shopping complex stairs are behind the fire proof door. That one lagi dangerous.

for me if the lift too long to wait, i will take the escalator. Not need to wait long.

But i will use the lift if am in big shopping mall like MV or 1U coz their escalator and stairs are very far apart and the stairs case are very lonely. par par la if use it.

This Saturday, Yvonne works. I am off.

Today topic, tough, because my office and house do not need to use lift at all.

Anyway, I don't mind to take stair case at all. Frankly I love walking up and down stair case. I am health freak and fitness freak. I just love everything that can help burning my extra calories.

While I type this comment, I receive a call from my White Knight, he is off too. How nice! Yeepeeeee!

    3. Good morning, Yan. True, we don't have much access to lifts here in Taiping or Ipoh. There are more in big cities like KL. We actually use more stairs than lifts. Even in the school, we have to walk up to the 3 floor or so. But now, I only use my house stairs.

I never complained as it was good exercise for me but during examination time, I might get to a class late and the teacher there would not be very happy. so i usuall walk to the opposite escalator. That would be faster,

MV punyak lift is not that bad la.

  12. Taking the lifts is not easy though. Imagine when there are lots of people waiting and the lift could be going up or down and we wouldn't want to go up all the way before we get to our floor way down. It's very irritating but patience got to be practiced here. Otherwise, just take the stairs if one can't wait.

Then, quickly press open and go out. Kacau only!

anyway not sure why the young man take luft on floir up especoally when he wanna go to gym to work out.

but for ladies i think it would be for safety reasons. usually gym is in shopping mall. many people use the lift. hence there is security in numbers
where else if take the stairs, it will be dangerous. lonely place. prone to crime. may even witness free show.

Complicated design...want to take the lift to the basement carpark, have to go to first floor...ad ground floor, blocked by KFC & Pizza Hut outlets. Best to park car outside in the open - never mind the sun. Then no need to take the lift or the stairs to go to the basement.

If one is still young and energetic, why not just take the stairs? What's the stairs for if it's not being utilized at all? Personally, I will take the stairs if I can do it.

  28. The most dangerous steps I climbed was on Mount Kinabalu. It was like 9km upwards and took me 9 hours when my wife just took 4.5 hours! Anay wanted to die many times along the way! Kakakakakakaka

  29. I climbed the most steps was during the weeks following my trip to Mount KK. I was running up and down the 22 floors of my condo. In the end I realized the actual mountain has terrible steeper steps!

    5. 1 or 2 storeys, use the stairs lah... Not old or fat or suffering from some physical or health problems. I would use the stairs...especially when going down. Some lifts, have to wait for ages...especially during peak hours.

    6. Last time on working trips, to beat the queue at the buffet table, I would use the stairs...and get to the restaurant/cafe first...before the rest who would wait for the lifts to arrive. Then they would have to wait some more...in the long queue at the buffet table.

    7. But with little children in tow, hard to use the stairs...especially with those you would still need to carry.
