請問有冇核數師/會計師/律師等專業人士, 可以話我知呢張出自某快餐店嘅單, 究竟有冇計錯數, 因而額外多收每位顧客5仙?? 問題就係源自6%政府稅, 究竟0.621仙可以唔可以進位成0.63?? 如果每位顧客都多收5仙, 咁佢一日之內咪賺多咗至少幾百蚊, 長遠嚟計, 豈不是發過豬頭炳?? 專業意見唔該, 法律上可有錯??
is there any accountant/auditor/lawyer etc professionals that can enlighten me, whether this receipt from a fast food chain has done the correct maths, and charged 5-sen extra to every customer?? the problem emanate from the 6% government tax, can 62.1-sen be rounded up to 63-sen?? if they overcharge every customer by 5-sen, then i supposed they earn at least few hundred extra everyday.. accumulating all those extras, that is a huge fortune!! professional opinions please, are they legally wrong??

    I must be alert like you and start checking the bills in fullest details. Normally I only checked the items ordered and never the prices and total. Who knows I have been cheated over hundreds by now.

      i don't normally check but just happened that the fried chicken was too piping hot, so i gotta wait there to let it cool down a bit.. so while waiting i start to read the receipt and there i found something fishy..

      i hate this, but then rarely they not giving back 5-sen lah.. last time when we still using 1-sen, there are many cases where they are not giving back the change.. but i think this is not right, they should have prepare for that if they are not going to charge round numbers right?? this is just an excuse, stand firm to ask for your change!!

    After kena a few times - cannot be never stock up on 5 sen or always run out of 5 sen; I stopped going to the place.

    5 sen x 1 lunch x 5 days x 1 year = A LOT!

    If 1000 victims were overcharged 0.05 sen per day, that would be a lot annually!!!


    1000 X 0.05 sen X 365 days = RM 18,250!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I don't charge my customers extra. Sometimes I even give them 10 sen discount if their bills happen to be something like RM9.10.

      yeah, i think giving customers some 10 or 20 sen discount will earn more customer satisfaction and retain them for future visits.. but then i understand fast food restaurant cannot do that lah, still they have to be honest right??

    I'm quite blur when come to bills checking.

    Come to think of it, I rarely check thoroughly. Only check the price of each item and never checked on the discount/taxes which involve %.

    Some ppl have the mindset, "5 cents only what, no big deal". Actually 5 cents can accumulated to a huge sum, like TM calculated above.

    But then again, it's not about 5 cents or 1 cent. It's about the honesty and accountability, provided to their customers. We feel cheated somehow.

      definitely!! that's the weakness they are trying to take advantage from.. because for just 5-sen most probably we also don't feel like entertain that, but then think from a big picture, how many customers they have a day?? and if everything accumulates, it gets huge!!

      Many coffee shops in KL even reject 5 sen coins!!!! They won't accept if you give them 5 sen X 4 coins as 20 sen! I was shocked when the waiter politely rejected me saying the big boss gave such orders!

      of course coffee shops or hawker stall always try to round to the nearest ringgit or sen.. but for supermarkets and restaurants, the pricing strategy always uses this kind of .99, .95 pricing, and that's where issues emerge..

      errr, you mistaken.. they still round up the 1-sen to nearest 5-sen.. just that they rounded up the tax to an extra 1-sen, so after the final rounding they go up 5-sen instead of go down 5-sen..

      I don't normally check bills at fastfood joints but if I do and I spot an anomaly, I'd want to enquire to get an understanding instead of guessing and feeling awful/cheated after that.

      It's not the sen, it's the principle and for knowing the truth for peace of mind.

      yes very true Happy, we trust that the restaurants to be frank and accurate in all the calculations, that's why we don't bother to check.. but then this is done so subtle, i am not sure if 0.621 can be rounded to 0.63?? maybe i shall post this to A&W facebook and ask for an explanation, of course besides earning one topic to blog about, haha!!
