first of all, do you think that is my arm or my leg in the photo above?? of course it's my arm, i would be very happy if my "Grade A Elephant Legs" are this slim, hahaha!! back to the topic, can you see the red patches all over my arm?? they make people thought i have illness and never dare to come near.. of course that has nothing to do with any illness but rather just mosquito bites, how pity!! from initially almost unseen, to patches as big as 5-sen, i think my blood must be very nutritious that it actually fed the mosquitoes to grow up so well!! i heard those of O-type blood are actually more prone to be bitten by mosquitoes, furthermore my skin is smooth and not hairy, no wonder the mosquitoes are biting me so happily!! i've said that i hate roaches, i guess i hate mosquitoes more, reason being at least roaches don't bite, but just look at how badly my arm is bitten by the mosquitoes, that really hurts me both physically (itchy red patches) and mentally (arms don't look nice).. if anyone has some effective ways of repelling mosquitoes, prevent mosquito bites or even healing the patches quickly, mind sharing to benefit everyone who is reading?? :)

  2. Yay, I'm FC again. haha... Guess not.

Poor thing! For me Chinese ointment, Foong yeow, works to relieve itchiness. I read that it contains some chloroform too. Tiger balm doesn't work as well but good enough if the other one is not available. The thing to remember is not to scratch it but who can resist, hor?

    1. I also read that mozzies are attracted to people with sweeter blood meaning that the people who attract mozzies may have more sugar in their blood which could mean a higher sugar level. Diabetics tend to attract mozzies. Also, blue is the fav colour of these pests and I remember you saying that blue is your fav color?

Applying insect repellant may be a good deterrent.

    2. I'm not trying to be dr quake or anything but Piriton is an antihistamine if the itch is too unbearable. I always have Piriton and Panadol with me - one to arrest an oncoming cold, the other a headache.

Now I use tiger balm...bought the bigger size one put in my bag. I dot like the normal White tiger balm. I prefer the new one called Tiger Balm Soft. The smell is softer and nice too

    4. oh i don't like "foong yao" at all, it's too strong for me and also the smell is horrible.. i am actually using tiger balm, just apply it all over my body on the mozzie bites, kind of okay to sooth the itchiness but sometimes it may not work..

hmmm, great info.. sweet blood and blue color attracts mozzie?? then i may be worry about the sugar level in my blood.. and my pj shorts is exactly dark blue!! no wonder..

oh, red color tiger balm?? that one is better and more effective?? i am using the original white one.. one little bottle can tahan for years actually.. okay, next round i shall get the red one..

      Delete
    5. got 3 tyoes of tiger balm...the red ones(said to be more pedas but i hate the smell), the normal white one(kaldip hates the smell) and the Tigerbalm Soft. I like that Tigerbalm soft. Smell milder...like lavender....

    1. Ehen my kids were young, I used the electric mat/liquid. Now that they have grown up, I use the fan shaped mosquitoes repellent. Very effective though. It's also has no smell. Why don't you try that?

      Delete
    2. Since your bites are considered bad, you should use calamine lotion to soothe them. Next time, apply mopiko immediately after those bites.

      Delete
    3. There are also mosquitoes repellent in the form of stick where you apply on your arms/legs and the spraying type.

      Delete
    4. My mum has a better 'recipe'..the pandan leaves. Leave them in your room. Guess the mosquitoes hate the pandan fragrance which we like. Otherwise, wear long sleeves to sleep! That solves the problem.

      Delete
    5. Wenn, pandan leaves work? Wow, that's cheap! May be can try that later, there are lots of pandan leaves just outside my mum's house.

      Delete
    6. yeah, i have heard of pandan leaves too!! just take two pieces and then tie them into a knot, and it's known to chase the mozzie away, because mozzie hates strong or fragrant smells..

i actually apply Tiger Balm on my mozzie bites, but then this time round the mark seems to be hard to get rid of.. i just bought two mozzie repellent and place them in my room, made of lemon grass extract.. hope it is useful :)

    7. I thought pandan leaves chase away cockroach....didnt know works for mozzie too. Good ...must try out this one...buy pandan leave and put....cheap

      Delete
    3. Aden also very prone to mozzie bites, tried the mozzie wristband before but not really working.
Then my cousin recommended MosiGuard, the mozzie repellent, available at Guardian. But not really effective also.
Then I found a cream which is suitable for Aden, it's called 'A Bite', got it from Guardian too, may be you can try.

      Delete
    4. hehehehe, a man's leg can also be smooth and not hairy mah.. i did Brazilian Wax lah, so i have smooth legs, even smoother than yours maybe!! muahahahaha!!

i also no idea suddenly so many mosquitoes, i think it's their mating seasons and many baby mosquitoes, or they are forced by the haze to come indoor?? dunno lah.. even applying Tiger Balm on the bites also didn't help to get rid of the mark.. okay, thanks for your recommendation, i shall go and find "A Bite", since it works on baby's skin, i think it's good..

  11. Ah Boy sure has sensitive skin la! Unlike me.

Aiyoh, imagine Ah Boy going out camping or hiking. Free blood donation to all the mozzies and he sure come back with red marks all over!

Mosquitoes are attracted to the colour blue, if I'm not mistaken. Avoid having blue nearby you....?

  26. Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors! Horrors!

My Thambee's hands were severely bitten by the horrendous mosquitoes who took no pity on you!! The patches and red marks are damn ugly!

The scars might become permanent if you don't use expensive creams or cow dung paste to heal your skin. Oh my poor Thambee! Who would marry you if your hands are so ugly?? You may have to find a bride with impaired visions!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think there is a way to kill the mosquitoes very effectively. You should blend a few stalks of lemongrass with water till it becomes the juice nectar. Smear them on your hands and legs! While your skin could heal with the lemongrass, the mozzies would get dizzy and drop dead when they smell it.

If that doesn't work, Anay would suggest that you drink one tablespoon of Ridsect or Mortein before sleep. Next day, if you wake up alive, you would find the dead mozzies lying on your bed!! Guaranteed to work!

  28. Since I have won Huai Bin's electric mosquito repellent, I have been waiing to assemble the whole toy and use them. It would be useful to turn on if I catch even one mozzie flying in my bedroom at night. I am very paranoid and worried about malaria and denggi fever!
