26.09.2012 | 駛唔駛呀

[Volume 7 Issue 9, #1549]
saw this photo from a friend in facebook the other day, and my immediate response was "huh?? is that necessary??".. just like what happened to the previous uniqlo's grand opening, i already think it's rather "interesting" to see people spending half a day queuing up, not to mention this overnight queue.. is there full sponsor for the first N customers to shop in there?? if that's the case, i really don't mind, but the fact is that's not the case.. and if Giorgio Armani is selling at H&M price, that would be another story also, haha!! i am really curious about the thinking and attitude of these people, i believe few days later, i don't even have to queue at all and effortlessly get exactly the same clothes like they did.. i think there are quite some people who has demophobia (fear of crowd) like me out there, hence i ever suspected those people are hired to queue up, for some money you can build up publicity, that's quite a good marketing tactic don't you think?? :p

    4. You typed too long, STP. Where's your usual "Chop!!"? Ish~~

It seems that we also have to implement to get the first sip. Cannot always fight for it, that's not nice. We should play fair, today started with HS and followed by other blogger tomorrow and the rest.

I reckon STP should be the last in the cycle, you are the eldest! Muahahaha~ Must give way to all little brothers and sisters, ya~

  5. Certainly a trend that started in the west has finally caught on here. I read too about the local celebs in the rush on the first day. Was there a special discount, I wondered.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 20%, I heard...but just pick a few items, already spent hundreds of ringgit. I really wonder how much those people earn, "spending their money like water". I would think many times before I'd part with my money like that. Ok...ok..I'm stingy but my late (very rich) grandfather told me only stingy people can become rich.

      Delete
    2. GHappy Surfer,

Dont think that much of discount la.

Even with discount pun...no need to queue up overnight gua. It's not as if buy things there are free.

      Delete
    3. I wonder if that is really necessary but there might be some attraction in that such as a special discount or so.

      Delete
    4. I dislike long queue, even there's 20% discounts on the item. Not worth the time and effort spent waiting... stoopid.

Still there are people willing to queue (and in this case, waited 15 hours before the opening), crazy b*****ds! And charge into the shop when it finally opens. Siao~

      Delete
    5. ...and sale on toilet rolls, one person can buy two, they bring the whole family, grandpa, grandma...all masuk...buy two each. Gee!!! They must be great shitters to need that much toilet paper. Some people really!!!!

  6. Supposed to be a place for cheap or affordable stuff but I hear this one's not cheap at all. So many people...but I really wonder how many actually know what H & M stands for. Glamour only. If you ask me, I would tell you - HODOH & MAHAL!!!

    2. Like in the UK, there's this chain called C&A...and the locals call it CHEAP & AWFUL. LOL!!!!

      Delete
    3. Hodoh & Mahal for H&M, kakakaka, well said, STP! Sometimes people are very much influenced by the brands, thus they are willing to do whatever-it-takes just to own a piece of it.

And I wonder how's its quality... as good as Giorgio Armani? :p

      Delete
    4. I'm not into any brand. Anything that's cheap...and has my size, good enough for me. You wear branded stuff, cost a million...people also dunno who you are...and worse still, they will say you buy from Jalan Petaling one. I wear like beggar in Sibu, I go out...everybody knows who I am. True or not? Wrong/incomplete address also the mail could reach me.

      Delete
    5. Same lah... never really cared about brand one. Not even Zara ke, Mango ke, manggis ke for me.

Seldom shop also. Too damn stingy and I still wear clothes that I bought/tailored 10 years ago!

wah sai emm sai ah queue up so early????

First 100 customers get free shopping meh? No right?

so why need to queue the night before? Same with the iPhone thingy. each time new launch sure have people queue up duno overnight or what.

haiz...but can't blame them too la as am guilty of that too. There was a time when harry Potter final book was launched, I queue up at Kino 7am to get my pre-ordered copy. Then snap photos with the "Fat Lady" hahaha. That was fun.

But then two three days later sakit hati coz a hypermarket selling the same book naround RM50 plus while i bought with discount around RM70 plus...

that was my gila time la.

I think i still gila nowadays coz if book sale i would queue up early. It's not as if it's free but then I simply kiasu la. Not as if I can buy all the books.

    2. Crazy? I think I did those crazy thing in my early 20s. Queued to get autograph from my favourite singer, Ronan Keating.

But, but, he was here for several hours only. Needed to grab the chance to see his handsome face. Unlike H&M, the shop will be there forever, right? So why the queuing?

      Delete
    3. The KIASU syndrome...and then camwhore and post on Facebook, so proud already. I wonder what is there to be proud about, dunno what kind of mentality that is.

Like the cheap breakfasts at the fast food joints - the queue so long....out into the road, round the corner also people will go and queue. Not that the breakfast is soooo nice. Give me free, I also don't want - I'm not a beggar!

    4. STP,
      Hi-five!

See how long the queue for that free ice-cream? Crazy. Make others affected just to eaet a scoop of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

Why so kiasu one? Really cannot afford to buy ah? o.O

Then cannot get, got angry. Then complain everywhere. Haish...

      Delete
    5. Dunno how their brains function... Really can't understand.

      Delete
    6. ya kor...i see the long queue for the ice cream i was thinking why ...cannot afford to buy normal price meh? even if cannot afford then no need to eat la...no need to queue like 9 streets leh

  9. I got my first piece of H&M top in Korean. No need to queue up at all. It was having sales that time. Now, I read your post, I regret for just buying one. I should have bought more and showed off in my FB eh!

    2. I also don't know. I heard my friends went Hong Kong and bought a lot of H&M. So, I saw H&M outlet in Korean, just quickly grabbed one and paid. I bought a top for around RM60.

    3. That is not that expensive wor.

Even here a simple top is already around that price.

I wonder H & M over here the price will be affordable or pricey ....but i sure wont be going there la so soon

    2. Meow, I also got kiasu, I kiasu when comes to my girls' studies now. Not so much about my own things already.

      Delete
    3. true also, Yan. Once got kids then we tend to kiasu buy stuffs for kids instead of ourselves.

When buy stuffs for ourselves then will think many times before paying . However if buy for kids then wont think so much

      Delete
    4. I'm too old to kiasu for this kind of event la. What iPhone launching la, new restaurant opening la, new car la, whatever... none of my business. I rather stay at home and spend my day lazying on the couch, watching TVB drama series.

When younger with more energy and time, maybe I'll go lepak and join the madness la. Maybe, only. Because I'm such a lazy bum myself.

    5. Like that time they gave RM500 - alamak the people outside the office, getting the form - like a riot going on...but look at their cars, put my old Wira to shame...and wear branded stuff some more - NIKE shoes...but so poor meh? RM500 also have to rebut like that? Disgraceful lah... Some even resort to falsifying claims. I may be poor but at least, I have my dignity...not so shameful like those people.

      Delete
    6. MY Dad didn't go and claim that RM500.00 never bother. Some more, need to declare stuff... you know they collate the info over at Kem Kewangan. Later, IRD can happy happy find you and ask you to pay income tax! Just for the sake of you getting RM500 once!

    7. Yes, in the news here - some got caught and got charged in court! Padan muka! So greedy! Got a cheating case...a woman wanted to claim the RM500, con-men pretending to help cheated her of her RM1,000 savings instead. Muahahahahaha!!!! Some people never learn!

      Delete
    8. LOL...RM500 of coursw wanna go rebut la.

Arthur, you see their cars are big but maybe they are the "ahmad" only. The car belongs to the big boss leh

anyway, true what Lina have to say about having to declare so many stuffs. Got a friend told me her customer went and claim the RM500. End up a few months later kena one letter asking the client many question about his income. Chammm

  11. May be H&M gave the first 100 customers free goodies. I guess most youngsters will go queuing. Youngsters have youth and time to waste. Mak Yan doesn't have the luxury to waste such energy and time anymore.

There was one time, the McD snoopy collection was highly sought too. I got a few, but some crazy friends got the whole set and they even framed it up!

    4. I paid my students to go and queue and buy the Hello Kitty for my daughter. They get paid, they eat the meal...I get the Hello Kitty. Don't expect me to go and queue.

    5. I still keep the Winnie the Poohs & Mashimaro's toys from McD that Zaini got (and queued) for me.
Didn't ask him to get it... since I don't really care about soft toys but he got the whole set and gave it to me as a surprise.
Still in very good condition. Still got the sound also. Battery belum habis. xD

    2. But I definately won't queue up for such grand opening unless they give free items worth the hours of queue I have to sacrifies.

    3. Maybe I will queue up if I'm too boring and all alone in this world one of the day.... But to think back, it will be quite fun to queue up with friends also.... if really nothing to do la.....

    4. If the cloths are really cheap, then worth buying. If it was because of grand opening and being the first few to buy the cloths, then not worth it la....I'm more practical la... money still comes first.

  20. The kiasu attitude has landed here. Many years ago, I only get to see this "queuing thing" in Japan or Hong Kong. What were they thinking actually? Does being the first customer in the outlet's history feels good?

Unless the outlet pay me to queue in front of the shop, with good hourly wage, plus extra extra benefits (like free cash vouchers) and I'm still single, why not? Better than ding-dong at home doing nothing :p

    1. That is veryu good. But then when you older you must think of a marketing strategy too. sometimes get people wait for you but not wait long. To show that you have others people waiting your time. show you are important enough.
