25.09.2012 | 臨急抱佛

[Volume 7 Issue 9, #1548]
discussing with everyone relating a chinese proverb today, "not praying in normal days, hug the buddha's leg at the last minute", that's the literal translation and it refers to one who doesn't do any preparation but always prays for miracle to happen at the last minute.. when it comes to studies and exams, i guess this best describes me.. not that i'm not serious about my studies, but i rarely do revision on normal days, i used to only start to study for the exams the night before, haha.. whether it works or not, to a short-term memory type of person like me, i think if i studied to early i may have forgotten later, hence doing revision a night before is just right.. i see other classmates started to prepare for exams two to three weeks earlier, i think that's rather impressive, could that work better?? maybe they have rounds after rounds of revisions, no wonder they could squeezed into the top three.. i wasn't bad at all, at least i was always within top ten.. frankly, i kind of think myself a good piece of material for studies actually, haha!!

      It is top 20.. kakakaka......
I also a very lazy student.. but US education system is very difference and you can't be lazy.. homework will contribute 5%, then we have pop quiz - 5%, course work - 20%, then test 1, test 2, test 3.... attendance also got score le ..

      Delete
    6. That's why so easy to pass...once can manage to go overseas, kao tim liao!!! If play by the rules, no problem one.

    7. My secondary school like that. 30% assigment, 50% from exam then attendance lah, what la...

I always suck getting marks for the 30% because I always do last-minute assignment but somehow my exam results were OK. But still, cannot get top spot lah, lazy like that. xD

But my CGPA always nice because of my co-curriculum (hell loads of it, because I can skip classes for them. wakaka). ;p

    8. last minute study also can get top ten...really good leh.

Me also get 10 ten when last minute study
. But unlike SK, my top ten is from the bottom of the class counting upwards . hahaha

me hug buddha feet...lick buddha feet also wont work la. Unlike sk , usually in class i dont really concerntrate.

hate the most is accounting and math subject. give me history and language then i will love it la.

  5. Good moring, SK, lina, STP and everyone here later than me. Today, it is a cold rainy morning, I was overslept until 7.10am. My girl needed to be at school before 7.20am. So, imagine my very mad morning today. Luckily my FIL was here to help me picking them to school. Then only I can reach my office on time.

    1. So, my advice is - don't leave things and put off things till tomorrow, if you can do today. I don't really encourage 平時不燒香, 臨急抱佛腳 ("not praying in normal days, hug the buddha's leg at the last minute")

I hammer into my girls' mind that they have to do preparation early. Study has to constant and revision has to be regularly done. I am a very discipline person since young. So, it seldom happened on me "not praying in normal days, hug the buddha's leg at the last minute".

So, my academy achievement was always making my parents proud.

      Delete
    2. Anyway, today I gave my girls a very bad example as I was overslept.

      Delete
    3. I also think that myself a good piece of material for studies.

There are 2 types of person, first one, very bright person like SK, no need to study so much, one or two times, still can score As.
second one, not very bright, but hard working, like me, studying constantly, also score As.

But I tell my girls, many bright person around us, but not many hardworking person, so, if you are bright, and you are hard working, you can even be a better person. That's what I think.

      Delete
    4. Good morning Yan. So you overslept because you had sweet dreams? How nice!

    5. If I were to study last minute, I would surely panic. I won't be able to finish studying! How to face the exam?

    7. I overslept because jin jin wasn't next to me, no one wake me up in the morning. Jin Jin is my alarm clork. Too bad, yesterday he was out of town. It was rainy in the morning. That's why I overslept. Luckily my girl didn't cry when seeing the time we woke up. My FIL came to bang at my door, until the whole kampung know I overslept.

      Delete
    8. Luckily my FIL helped me to pick them up to school, you know I was so nervous the moment I woke up, didn't know I should wear bra first or let my girls brush teeth first.

      Delete
    9. Muahahaha! Mak Yan's story is so funny, so I reckon you must be "hugging the buddha's leg at the last minute", trying to meet the school hours for your daughter.

So, my advice is - don't leave things and put off things to Jin Jin, if you can set your alarm yourself. Bwahahahaha!

      Delete
    10. True la, ah hua, thanks for this piece of valuable advice. I cannot make Jin Jin my buddha. I should make myself as buddha.

    11. sigh....too late la the advices for us...maybe not too late for SK la. Our brain now are all "frozen" hard to get new information in.

Got a friend ajak me to continue study. But i think think and think...sigh....cannot la...brain not working. Even if i hug, kiss buddha leg also wont pass.

Like one of my colleague said when i continued study while working...she said no need to study la...but terbalik, now she forty over, she started to study back hahaha...it's hard but not impossible
