最近埋頭苦幹我嘅dissertation, 因為真係花咗好多時間心機同腦汁, 所以久不久就將份文件backup入支USB手指內.. 有時候係寫完一兩個句子就會backup, 甚至有時離開部電腦, 我都要將支USB帶住喺身, 因為我真係好怕萬一部電腦發生咩事, 至少都仲有份backup, 唔駛死到攤攤腰咁濟.. 剛剛神經質起, 萬一電腦同USB都同時不幸遭禍, 點算??!! 於是我就再做多份backup入網盤, 實行一式三份, 應該都算係非常安全喇.. 各位朋友, 奉勸大家嘅重要私人文件, 最好經常做backup, 買個以防萬一.. 最近流行網盤(一個儲藏週圍可用), 尤其用緊blogger嘅朋友, 就肯定有個google戶口, 咁就理所當然有個Google Drive可以免費使用啦.. 我剛剛setup完我嘅gDrive, 就覺得幾好喎, 步驟簡單又方便, 求個安枕無憂嘛~~ :)
have been burying myself in my dissertation writing, and because there is so much time and effort and brain juice spent, i make very frequent backup of the document into my USB drive.. sometimes it's even after i've completed just two sentences, or whenever i leave my laptop i make sure i bring my USB along, because i am really afraid of things getting wrong with the laptop, at least i still have a backup to save me.. and i get paranoid just know what if both laptop and USB gone wrong?? i quickly make another copy to the cloud (technical jargon for web-based disk space), so i now have three copies and i supposed that is safe enough.. just an advice to everyone that it's always wise to backup your important personal files frequently, for just in case of the worst to happen.. cloud backup (store in a spot and use anywhere) is rather a trend now, especially to blogger friends, you already have a google account and that means you can automatically use Google Drive for free.. i've just finished setting up my gDrive and i find it simple and convenient, it's helpful for a peace of mind really~~ :)

      Yeah, it's traumatic to see your thesis draft lost. SK, you are wise to have two backups because any glitch can happen anytime - even without our doing.

      Thanks for the reminder about backing up. Digital archive runs the risk of file loss, unfortunately, if one is not careful.

      Very dangerous now with the new law Sect 114A. If lost FB a/c and the hacker went and post something bad in the FB a/c we will kena leh.

      Buta buta masuk jail or the very least get law suit hassle.

    My girl didn't backup her photos and suddenly her external hard disk couldn't work. We had to send to the technician and he retrieved the files for us. Lucky her. Otherwise, all her precious photos gone!

      My shop's hard disk once totally couldn't function and imagine all the hard work put. I didn't back up at all. So the technician actually had to clone the whole data and I had to pay a hefty sum for that!

      I seldom do backup nowadays. Nothing worth saving except my photos. Thus I would copy my photos into CD or DVD, categorized them by year. Office work, the database administrator will do routine backup, no worry if my pc gone to heaven one day because I save all the files under a common drive :)

      yeah, office documents for sure you save it into some place where your administrator does daily backup.. but i could be paranoid, daily backup is not good enough, what about you doing some really important documents, and suddenly things gone wrong?? you lost a day's work.. so maybe just backup a copy somewhere like after some important updates.. at least if you want to trace back the changes, you can do i also..

    Since I don't study and I don't take my work back with me, the only thing I'm paranoid about losing is my photos. My family's photos.

    It's like I have backup upon backups upon backups! lol

      I got back up my blogs la but then duno will work or not when import to new blog. Last time kena before the blog wont load properly. That time was during the old blogger interface and new blogger interface thingy la

      Wah, meow backups her blog! I didn't know blog can be backuped :O

      I only made backup for my thesis and course work last time. And we don't have CD burner, only had floppy disc. And I labelled my disc from disc #1 to #5 for medium size project.

      Imagine now, most of the files exceeded 1M I wonder if only floppy disc still popular and DVD does not exist.

      Go Dashboard

      select Setting

      select Others

      select EXport Blog

      It will be downloaded to your PC in XML format. If you click it will be all alien language aje.

      so if your blog kena hijacked otr what you can create one more blog and upload using "Import blog" and your old boog will be uploaded into the new a/c lo.

      Sayang you know if all the years punya blog posts hilang. Last year my blog nearly kena hijacked.

      Lucky a friend who was online called me up and told me of suspicious activities in my a/c. I managed to get back the google a/c and blog.

      I see overseas they have this opition of printing blog. Msia have also but then very expensive.

      yeah, i burn my photos into DVD lah, i guess it's better to put into external harddisk because if you leave your harddisk aside for some time, it gets kaput and your PC cannot read from it lah.. but then nowadays i seldom take photo also lah.. mostly already "backup" to facebook~~

      I save my photos in My Pictures, in my blog, on Flickr and on Facebook...so one gone, still got the rest. USB pen drive, CD...may not be able to open files if using a different system. Ask you to reformat = all files gone. Facebook alone also dangerous - account hacked, locked, not accessible...all inside gone also.

      nothing in this world is absolutely 100% safe and guaranteed lah.. but at least we must be doing something to reduce the risks.. :)

      yeah, i do backup my blog periodically too.. just like what meow showed.. dunno whether it's useful or not, but better be safe than sorry right?? :)

    Just now i click on the G-drive link. Looks a bit like Dropbox. Is it similar concept with dropbox?

    I am a scady cat. When I saw the word say makes sharing with others easier. It's like I scared ter-share some private information. Too many unknown charaters lurking online so i feel not safe if sharing private information online. That's why I would hesitate to store my private files online

      yeah, they are all the same lah.. just different brands only, hahaha.. does the "branding" concept sounds more clear to you?? hehehe.. i use Google because of the single sign-on thing mah, because everyday for sure needs to sign-on blogger, so it links to gmail, gdrive etc no need so mafan mah.. by default those files are not shared one, unless you specifically shared out lah.. and private things of course better not put online lah, store with your own device..

      I have a few USB, a portable hard disk and CDs, but I don't really utilize them so far. Just use them to copy movies and dramas. Hehehe!

      laptop is also prone to breakdon also.

      One danger of laptop is it is portable and easy for people to steal the laptop.

      Best do back up on the files which is in laptop

    Back up, back up...then USB, nothing...CD, blank...all files gone missing. How? Some not compatible with newer Windows. Like video tape...no video player, how to play on vcd/dvd player leh? Back up also no use... :(

      Yesterday, early, I went to temple to pray for my late parents, and also Kuan Yim Ma. That's my 1st and 15th ritual to go to Kuan Yim Ma's temple to pray. Then, I went to my little girl's mini piano concert. Noon, I went to gym for 1.5 hours. Japanese dinner with my elder girl's ping pong coach and wife. Then, back home, 11pm online to read SK0617. That's my Merdeka day in 2012.

    As for my office files and important documents, I also save them in external hard disk, pc and even server. I thought I was nuts until I found my brother Thambee also do the same!! I would get very paranoid if the huge power point presentations go missing. My boss would make me go nuts and retype them all. Babi!

    Thambee I like your new blog banner with the movers truck! Looks like you are going somewhere! Long ago my agency designed a similar concept for a property developer using that truck style with the property photos. The client liked it.
