since the 1-sen coins has been discontinued in market last April, most of the supermarkets have already adjusted their item pricing, to round to the nearest 10-sen.. but still there is this one called "Kwool Storage" that is still pricing their items at the xx.99 model.. meaning if you are going to get a 0.99 item, you will need to pay 1.00, which is contributing a 0.01 extra to the supermarket.. alright, 1-sen is really a very little money, but come think about how many customers they would have in a day?? if everyone contributes 1-sen extra, you don't have to be a Harvard Calculus graduate to understand this accumulation, imagine how much extra money they will be able to earn in the end of the day??

and so everytime i shop there, i will always do some counting and make sure my total ends up with either 1, 2, 6 or 7 sen.. only by this figure, according to the Rounding Adjustment Mechanism, i would be able to get back a 1-2 sen rebate.. i rather buy more yet don't want to pay them extra, haha!! come everyone, let's do this together and stop the evil merchants from earning our hard money at no reason~~

  1. This one reminds me of having to pay one ringgit for a ninety sen bus fare.

  2. With wise shoppers like you, SK, it's more a lai siong, poh haa situation, but you are right, it gives a bitter taste in the mouth. Not very cool, hor?

Come to think of it, I still have a lot of one sen coins. Are we still allowed to use them? I read that we could use them up to two ringgit. Does the ruling still stand, I wonder. Any idea?

Btw, I came across a post showing a great way to use these coins. I think I'll post it.

  4. They ought to just price their stuff at RM1.00 instead of RM0.99!

    ReplyDelete
  5. errr... if you buy more there, they actually earn more lei~ don't forget they do earn some $$ with every items purchased... kekeke for me it's no difference if they earned that extra 1cent coz other shops have already round up their prices thus it's the same anyway~ LOL by being so calculative, you actually spent more lei! LOL

  6. They can price it at RM1 and still will collect the same amount of money if they price it at RM0.99.

    This is markeing psychology...I guess.

yeah, those are really evil merchants!! tactically make the price at xx.99, looks cheaper but we actually pay the same.. hmmm, i think you can exchange your 1-sen at Bank Negara, they will give you back the same amount - but i have no idea how long they will need to prepare you the cheque.. anyway, if you think your 1-sen is not worth the petrol to go there, then please save your effort.. hahahaha!!

    Mei Teng:
while all other supermarkets have been doing this, they are still sticking with xx.99.. yeah, look cheaper but then we still pay the same 1.00.. :(

    fable frog:
of course i know they have set high margins into each item.. but that extra 1-sen we have to pay for the 0.99 is just so obvious that they are earning extra!! i'm more superficial, so i'll get them to rebate me 2-sen instead of me having to pay extra 1-sen.. haha!!

  13. Grass:
yes agree that is marketing strategy.. anyway, i always buy 3 items at a time, which makes my total end with a 7, meaning they have to rebate 2-sen for me, hahaha!!

    Wois:

    Medie007:
huh?? how can they round up RM7.80 to RM8?? this is not good, unless then round RM8.20 to RM8 then customer are always happy.. which shop is this?? you should blacklist it already.. next time go supermarket to buy laa, at least there's no bargain.. haha!! :)

  14. Leu:
haha, at first i thought what ceiling you are referring to.. you mean coins "syilling" dude!! i will always try to use up them also, yah, too heavy to carry around.. :)

    Danny:
aiyoh it's not any difficult, i just need to make sure the last figure only.. so it things are priced at xx.99, so buying three items will make it at xx.x7, just as simple as that lah.. or rather, you don't mind that little amount of money lor - but i just won't let them earn extra~~ :p

    uLi.
haha, if you agree, then let's do that together.. never contribute extra but always want them to rebate extra!! hahahaha, YES!!!

    Rebecca Kheng:

  21. Never mindlah, let them earn that 1 sen. I'm too lazy to calculate! Haha!

Btw, regarding Sagano Restaurant @ Renaissance, booking is required. I think weekdays price is slightly cheaper at RM49++. I went there on Saturday and the price was higher at RM55++.

You can call this number 03-2162 2233 to book.

Oh, btw, the RM55++ does not include drinks. I had green tea and they charge RM5 per person for it.

  22. Oops! I juz found out that tomorrow is the last Sat for the promotion! Either you go tomorrow or no more chance! I thought it would last till end of the month, so I guess I was wrong! : )

  23. @Medie007: RM0.20... next time u pay me... I think it's too much for rounding RM0.20 ... in fact i think it's not rounding ... it's cheating :p

[SK]: I think it's our consumer rights to ask back even RM0.01 :p

  24. Gratitute:
yeah, most of the people don't really care about that 1-sen, but definitely not me!! hahaha.. i just think it's not right they do it this way..

    foongpc:
ya, if you just think about 1-sen then of course it's of tiny value.. think about accumulating all the 1-sen, then you might be able to use those money for a starbucks coffee woh.. just think about it :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. foongpc:
yeah this will be the last weekend in the month, but i think still can go there during weekdays till end of july right?? if weekdays are cheaper, then maybe i'll consider not to "squeeze" with the weekend crowd.. hmmm, can i not order drinks?? hahahaha~~ i'm so cheapo hor??

    Chris Chia:

    TZ:
errr, under the rounding system are we still able to get back that 1-sen?? i know before the rounding system, they already have excuses to always "cheat" that extra 1-sen by asking the cashier to tell customers they have run out of 1-sen coins!! i mean this is so wrong and unacceptable right?? totally abusing the consumer's rights!!

    ReplyDelete

    squall:
yes you are right!! accumulation of little amount can really make a bomb.. that's why i never want to pay even that extra bit.. :)

  31. i hardly go to tat 'khool storage', im not atas enuff :p but i think other supermarkets also practicing the same pricing tactics. actually i think from the statstics side, u will end up abt the same, which means u might be the losing end this time, but the gaining side next time lor. they r not supposed to earn more with this rounding up system.

    ReplyDelete
  32. the happy go lucky one:
hmmm my observation is that most of the other supermarkets have already rounded-up the price.. well, i don't know how much they are going to benefit from the rounding system, seems like it's a 50-50 chance they get extra or rebate extra, anyway for me i just won't let them earn that extra for no reason.. haha!!

  33. every penny helps...count it in the long run you'll have a whole amount with that already. I usually save the coins change we get from the groceries or anywhere, we have a jar for that here at home. =)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ayie:
hmmm i never collect the coins somewhere, but instead whenever i got some, i'll try my best to get rid of them.. and supermarkets are ideal place for the coins.. haha!! hmmm, have you estimated how much money you have in that jar??

    ReplyDelete
  35. wait til my next post is out...you'll be figuring it out how much everything we have

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ayie:
hahaha, and i am seriously looking forward to that amount!! i guess easily 3-figure you have in that..

    ReplyDelete
  37. haha yeah.. still 99 cents.. but i guess its hard for the business to change the value in the database la.. since almost ALL the products have 99 behind it... so changing it will only take more resources and waste time... anyway it'll still be rounded up right.. =)

  38. kenwooi.com:
hey, changing the value in database is so easy, you just need to write a small little script to update amount.. don't you think i don't know this can be done ok?? if they can do this once and for all, then they don't even have to bother about the rounding adjustment routine.. correct?? :p
