[Volume 8 Issue 6, #1744]
i love going to supermarkets as it's such a happy thing to see food all around you, haha.. whenever i go to a supermarket, it's rare that i will leave empty handed, as anyhow i will still "accidentally" buy at least some snacks, ah, my ugly sin!! the other day while waiting for a friend, there was still time and hence i went lingering in the supermarket in the mall, in the end bought home three packets of snacks.. checked the receipt and only to find out the crispy nugget on promotion was given a huge ONE-SEN discount.. after the rounding, it still went back to the original price, how generous!! the one above with 31-sen discount, i was fine with it since it came with a free container, but this 1-sen discount was really a nonsense.. everyone should have known that my auntie attitude has always got my buying things for the freebies or because they are cheaper (cheaper but still not cheap).. do you also have the same attitude?? hahaha!! :D

  1. One sen - not much if we buy one or just a number of packets but may mean something when bought in bulk but who buys in real bulk in a supermarket, eh?

Some freebies are worth paying a little extra for the product, I feel.

    1. err, we have a more complicated rounding system here to round to the nearest 5 or 10 sen..
      - 1 and 2 sen round down to 0 sen
      - 3 and 4 sen round up to 5 sen
      - 6 and 7 sen round down to 5 sen
      - 8 and 9 sen round up to 10 sen

      Delete
  4. Over here, they will round to $7.85 as now no more using 1 cent...

  5. Good morning Aunty SK. You are just like your brother Anay who has itchy hands. Need to buy something baru feel shiok. My problem is that I seldom check the receipts these days.

    1. I have been conned so many times until I prefer to stand and watch them key in item by item. The price would flash on its cash register. If got error, I would stop them right away and correct them as they often keyed in wrong quantity or the wrong types of fruits. You know lah, sometimes got 3 types of pineapples and the cashier could bill me the imported one at RM12 for the nenas! Kaneeneh lah!

All other shoppers behind me would be alerted and panic to watch.

      Delete
    2. yalah, itchy hands die die must buy something!! and when it comes to supermarket that likes to have X.99 pricing, i will get three at a time, so that they total up to X.X7 so that in the end round down to X.X5 and Thambee saves 2-sen!! better they lose and i gain right?? haha..

oh, i don't look at the cash register lah.. i will quickly pack the things into my bag.. i hate that when it's my turn and the previous customer is still there packing his/her thing because he/she was standing there doing nothing when items were scanned.. if any discrepancy, just go to the customer service lor..

      Delete
    3. I have spoilt eyes, go in, see something, must buy, lol...

      Delete
    4. yeah, i think this is some kind of "illness" huh?? we have to learn to control ourselves then~~ :D

    5. me terbalik.. When they key-in i wont really bother to check even if the price flash wrongly coz end up the cashier will have to call his her colleague to walk to the relevant aisle to check the price. If confirmed wrong, then the cashier will call his/her supervisor and the supervisor will take his/her own sweet time to come. Then he/she will asked cashier what is the problem and swipe the card.

At this duration, all the customer queueing up behind me will be glaring at me. Some will show black face.

Normally, I will just take the items and then checked the receipt after paying.

If there is any error, i will go to customer service to get refund.

I like the ones in Tesco. They are so friendly. When refund they would smile and say sorry. This way, everyone happy. I wont get glared at and cashier easier job. LOL

Take 3 items ah, Ah Boy...err ....sometimes 3 is too much leh. But for me when i buy vege, i will find the X.26 X.27 la LOL

      Delete
    6. oh same here lah, because the cashier cannot do anything one.. probably after they scan and malas to get the supervisor (also making everyone wait), they just ask us to go to the customer service later.. which i think this is better lah, i would just quickly pack my things and pay.. and then go to customer service for refund lah..

hahahaha!! meow, i also like that!! the take 3 items just an example for those 99 sen things lah.. as long as i calculate the sen must be either 1, 2, 6 or 7 lah.. like that no need to pay them extra for rounding up mah, hahaha!!

  6. The only receipts I always checked 100% before paying is the restaurant ones. Adoi!!!! Here in KL they made mistakes like 5/10 dining occasions for me!!! I am not sure whether they overlooked or deliberately. Even if they forgot to charge me, I would tell them to add on and I would pay more otherwise I could not sleep at night. LOL

    1. hmmm, bad luck Anay to have bad experiences with wrong items on the receipt as much as a 50% probability?? but Anay is good!! usually when overcharged people will make noise, if short-charged then keep quiet and quickly leave the place~~ :D

      Delete
    2. I usually check the receipt after leaving the place. But like annay, I stare at the registry machine when the cashier scans the items.

      Delete
    3. wow, this Ah Hua is then double-kiasu lah.. stare at the cash register and also check her receipts!! best practices for all the aunties i would say~~ :D

      Delete
    4. agree with Anay...The ones from restaurant have to put on additional specs to check leh. sometimes ordered the dish never arrived and yet they charged us in the bill.

Sometimes the restaurant also have promotion of certain dish but when they key into the system it's not reflected. Have to ask from them

      Delete
    5. true also, because restaurant is not like supermarket's small items.. better check that, sometimes ordered already the dish didn't come and yet they still charge us.. it's a good habit to always check your receipt lah, that's what receipts are for!!

      Delete
    6. Lucky I cannot afford to makan at restaurant so not really encounter these problems you rich people have! Muahaha

I have the bad habit of just paying and checking later. ^^!

      Delete
    7. supermarkets sure pay and check later, but restaurants have to check before paying lah~~ even in mamak stalls, they'll just write the total on a piece of paper and slide it under your plate..

Yeah like SK said...most of the time error comes is from those promotional items.

      Delete
    3. yes, it's a good habit to check your receipts.. those promotional items especially are prone to errors..

      Delete
    4. I check during scanning, double confirm with cashier and if got discrepancy... I went to customer service counter to get refund.

Nowadays, the price and how they come out when scanned are so confusing especially for promo items.

      Delete
    5. yalah, especially those discounts with bulk purchases.. the cashier scans in everything, and only when she press the total button, the discounts were given, like that confusing also lah, cos you didn't know how much was discounted.. so, still have to fall back to checking the receipt..

      Delete
  11. Good morning SK and all! Oh, that's bad. As for me, I usually give 5 sen or 10 sen discount. When I am supposed to give the change as RM2.90, I would just give RM3. But surprisingly, most customers don't bother too. Not even a thank-you. I usually just give on my own free will. My cashiers don't do that and surprisingly, they usually ask. 'Don't pay the 10 sen, cannot ar?' they asked when they have to pay, say RM3.10. Funny, right?

    ReplyDelete

    1. hahaha, i didn't complain about that 1-sen discount but just think it's quite nonsense, might as well don't give that discount to confused us, just go back to the round up price right??

    3. I would prefer they just round up the price. Even with discount, it is easier. 1 or 2 cents we couldn't even bother if buy in bulk. Who cares?

    4. actually 1-sen still discount lah, hahaha!! buy 1 or 2 no difference, but buy 3 then can get rounded down to 5 sen and save 2 sen lor.. but just find it quite a nonsense lah, 1-sen discount, hahaha!!

      Delete
    5. Yeap, nowadays their marketing strategy veyr geng one. Everything want us to buy more and more.. So we can see the difference. hahaha..

      Delete
    6. Somehow it is a win win situation. You shiok you buy, if you don't vice versa.

      Delete
    7. hahaha, of course they will always win more than we win lah.. after all, the money all goes to their own pocket, they sure won't rugi one even with discounts..

      Delete
    8. Correct! From their point of view, they actually earned what they want. Takkan rugi one. They always wanted to earn a little bit more from us. Later GST, I dun dare to see.. many things will shoot up. Again anything could happen.

    9. yalah, make no sense if they still sell at rugi price right?? cannot trust them lah, sure they still have a big margin to earn one..

  29. GRRRR!! THIS POST GETS ME FUMING!!!!

rounding up and down and the "so called" offer/discount...grr!!! *ANGRY FACE*

Just last week was window shopping and saw one new hypermarket/supermarket in a mall. Went in and see lo . I saw they advertised Ribena RM9.90 on the shelves. Promotion price with yellow sticker some more leh. So cheap. So I took two lor,

Then walk some more saw Mi Seda RM3.29 promotional price. Then I noticed at the shelves was RM4.29. But at the main area was RM3.29. So i thought okay...maybe like what Lina gone through the other day la...so I take la...paid at the counter checked price.

See the receipt Ribena RM12+ and the mi sedap RM4.29...what the ....oh well...off to the customer servoce counter...

The ah moi there never listen one...Show her the recipt and she straight away say the Ribena free gift is in the packaging. Wah lau eh....woi! pekak or what...repeated one more time about the pricing...still insist that gift is in the package...chicken and duck talk or what....me not talking alien leh...me talk malay leh...my malay not that bad gua?

Finally she got it...lengggang lenggong went to check the pricing...come back....Oh ribena tu promotion dah over...tu mi sedap promotion esok baru start.

asked her why promotion over never take out sticker and why the actual price not there on the shelf...cannot answer.

So we told her we dont want the products anymore. Refund money. She was like "HUH?" . I guess nobody else demand money back like us gua. Maybe people will just say "oh my bad luck. Didnt check properly". For me it's misleading advertisement la.

It might be staffs lazy or maybe lax of management. Even when we ask for refund the Supervisor just pass us back the money without a word of sorry.

Then we asked for the receipt coz he took the recipt to the counter. Hey what did you know...The receipt we got back was the original receipt. Just the mi sedap and the ribena was circle with pen. They didnt even bother to error out the transaction. Hmm....i wonder how they keeping the accounts. Not my business if they open themselves for fraud.

Anyway, this is not the first time this chain of hyper market does this. Even there is one near my house, I would go to further hypermarket like G or T to get stuffs.

    2. Too bad i didnt snap photo of the price else will certainly bligged about it. At that time didnt think of that.

too bad also I didnt notice any signboard that says they will honour lower price in case of dispute. If not I will screw them upside down.

Tesco and Giant have that sign but not this particular hyper/supermarket.

    3. wow, long comments and even longer story than me post!! hahaha, but i enjoyed reading it very much lah.. the way Meow puts that the story, so kan cheong and makes people want to continue reading, haha!! eih, very bad lah, which hypermarket was that?? you mentioned you rather go to G or T, then likely we know which one you had bad experience with lah, haha!!

next time when see promotion, either go to the price scan station to confirm the price.. or take a photo of the price tag there on the spot.. and always remember to see if there is an effective date range for the promotion also.. a lot of things that we need to stay alert with lah, so many deceptive marketing nowadays..
