06.02.2013 | 超市促銷

[Volume 8 Issue 2, #1666]
i blogged about food sampling in supermarkets yesterday, something that can trap you between laughs and angers, i thought why not to talk about those promoters?? i have personally seen and even encountered hard-sell promoters in supermarkets before (i think quite inevitable for everyone), so i'd like to share this here today.. first, if i see such hard-sell promoters from far, i will definitely avoid them even if i need to route to another aisle, because i really require my personal space when i go shopping.. second, even if i am already holding my items, they could just approach and tell you "sir, i think this brand you are going to buy isn't that good.. this one i'm having is much better, you should buy this one instead~~".. of course i know what's the story behind that talk, but sorry that will never mess my decision.. because i always know what i wanted to buy, and if your brand is that good i guess you don't even need to hard-sell in a supermarket right?? *good wine needs no bush*, agree??

    2. Good morning SK and Anay,

This ah boy must be accompanied his family to go for CNY shopping these two days. Until he kept blogging about things and people in supermarkets.

    3. You know which part of a place I hate to go? Supplements in the drug store. Guardian ke Watson ke Caring ke... supplements section is swarmed by promoters. I really don't like to buy when the promoters are around and avoid them. :(

    4. This one I agree but I will give them headaches instead. I will ask them silly questions about their products.

  2. Irritating! Any item with promoters, I will not buy anymore.

Sometimes, I even had to give those Ah Lian promoters a long, cold hard stare...to get them off my back. So irritating! Cannot stand the shrill high-pitched voices. Why do they all sound like that hah? So painful to the ears!

  3. I find you guys a bit funny, always trying to avoid these hardcore promoters or even telemarketing callers! I normally entertain them! Maybe it is due to my nature of job that I allow them all to have a chance to speak up. I gave them HOPE.

    1. Sometimes I came across the statements and given info by the promoters to be true and enlightening. They are also humans and not aliens who might be smarter than us about current market situations. Before they could parade at the aisle, their peers and seniors must have pumped in a lot of info to their heads. They were often useful tips for me!

    2. As for the callers from telemarketing, I let them talk while I multitask at the other end. If good, I would consider like the one I got the member for Saujana's Lifestyle Club. Good deal that suited my needs and whims.

    3. Friends can enjoy your member privileges or not, TM? I go KL, you let me use your card, can?

      Delete
    4. Sure you can use the card anytime before expiry in June 2013. The location might be odd and off but it has some resort setting ambiance on the Saujana's golf course.

    5. Annay is forever so kind and helpful towards everyone. He will get good karma in return.

Ah Hua's sweet mouth just now, so can lend me the card? *hint, hint*

    6. Honestly, I also pity those promoters trying so hard to sell the product. Their commission is based on their sales, thus they have to pull whoever customers that come across their counter/booth.

One thing that I disagree is, some claim their product is the best of all. It's really up to personal preference.

    1. Regarding your point number 1, same goes to me (sometimes), especially those promoting credit cards. They are very good and patience, can follow you all the way and keep on promoting... No offence la, I know they're just doing their jobs, but I will just smile and wave my hands and keep on walking, ignoring them... :p

      Delete
    2. And point number 2, I find this rather annoying/rude. Like you said, we know what we want. If you'd like to promote your brands, at least use a more polite way, but not 'criticize' the brands we have in hands. This indirectly means we have 'low taste' la!

      Delete
    3. And speaking of point number 2, once I was in Tesco and I took a tin of Dumex formula milk, which my son drinks since born and ready to walk to the cashier. Then an Anmum's promoter approached and asked if I'd like to try Anmum, and tell me how good is the brand and so on, and while she was promoting, her eyes kept on staring at the milk I had in hands.
Hello, formula milk for baby is very 'sensitive' it's not that we can change anytime we want. What if it's not suitable for my son after I switch to this brand? She should know that ma! I was quite pissed off that time actually.

Opps, sorry for the long comment, haha! Guess it's the longest comment I've ever posted here :p

    4. No credit card promoter ever follow me around.

I must look so low class! huhuhu

      Delete
    5. Nothing to do with your looks lah. You run too fast, how they can catch up with you???

      Delete
    6. Muahahaha, TM is right, Minah Rempinator walks so fast no promoter would able to catch up.

No credit card promoter approaches me either. I remain cardless until now, if you don't take the dunno-which-boutique member cards into account.

  5. My niece worked part time during weekends in a hypermarket.. she cooks the tomyam and gave out samples to the customers but she doesnt open her mouth to persuade them to buy.. she said very senang job only.. just give them the small cup to drink and that's it.. hahaha... buy or not, she no bother..
I guess some salesperson can be persistent because of the commisio, i guess..

    1. Commission can be quite helpful for those full time salespersons. Additional customer buying the product, means extra income to the company and the promoter :)

  6. Eh today seems abit quiet here... I think may be because most people already balik kampung for CNY?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I will let those promoters talked for a while, but my decision varied depending on how well they promoted the goods.

When I am in the mood to buy things, I don't mind promoters introducing goods to me, but when I am not in the mood, I find them irritating.

My reaction to them is depending to my mood that day. Hahahahaha!

    1. Yan,
      We are the same.

If promoter is good and not too pushy, I may buy their products instead.

I like service better than sticking to a brand anyway. I told hubby it;s a way to show appreciation to the promoter for doing an earnest job. ;)

  8. But I think I can stand promoters trying to sell me things more than having a salesgirl following me, quietly but her hands keep on adjusting every single item I touch.

I find that more annoying. I've a few times looked at them and asked whether I'm making their life difficult by entering the shop or whether they think I'm planning to steal anything.

Wanna follow, follow la... but don't annoy the customer. If helpful, that's another matter, :(

    3. but then again, if the promoter are good in explaning how good their products are, maybe it might changed my mind. I dun really like to stick to one brand. I like to try others if the price are reasonable.

  12. 超市啲促銷員都還可忍受,最鬼憎就係啲信用卡/健身中心/Spa促銷員,要煩到你發火正肯罷休。

  13. Wanakum! Think there is two division of promoter one is one food & product and the other on services. Got friends and relatives worked as promoters before and they are not paid commission. Their job is to let people try their samples and their supervisor would check them out and question them why the samples are not been used and blame them for not doing their job. Some teruk supervisor would hide at certain corners to peep and do spot checks whether they are talking to shoppers getting them to try the samples etc. So we are doing them a great favour by testing their samples. Those days Bananaz would shy away making 'S' turn if someone is doing a food promotion in the supermarket, but not now after hearing their 'hard' time after all they just wanna cari makan.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Of course there are other promoters on services like credit card, clubs etc and mostly based on commission would often go overboard. Maybe they lacked training or desperate to earn money to place food on the table or simple wanna more more & more money and could not be bothered with the house rules. There is a house rule in shopping mall that could lead them into trouble. They are not supposed to follow shoppers and bug them. That means they are not supposed to step out of their territory of their stall ie must remain in their carpeted area at all times to wait for shoppers to approach them. Sad to say many promoters did not follow. Anyway nothing much Bananaz can do when approached by them guess would only give them a nice smile with a 'no thank you'. Works most of the time.

  15. Surprisingly ma sweetie Mango have befriended a few promoters in 'A' hypermarket and exchanges phone contact. Later part when there is a sale coming up they would text sweetie Mango. They are not on commission and that same products we can buy them at pharmacy.

  16. wow.. i thought you are not in the mood for shopping... is this a preparation for CNY??

    ReplyDelete
  17. yup.. promoters are somehow irritating when they try to pursue their product no matter how many times they rejected it... but looking at the other side of it, they're probably doing their job.. so i guess i can bear with it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i love those promoters that speak in a practical manner... I mean... those who speak for real and not just entirely for the sake of promoting their items..

    ReplyDelete
  19. oh wait... if there are promoters that I can barely deal with.. those are the credit card promoters... gosh I had an experience that they even grabbed me and never let go of me until they finished speaking.. haha that's the worst

    ReplyDelete
  20. so far i havent experienced this yet
but ive seen some who talks a lot
in markets just to attract customer

    ReplyDelete
  21. this reminds me of our market here
whenever you walks on the market
people would start asking you "what are you searching for"
    from a stall after another
    haha

    ReplyDelete
  22. but there are worst stores here,
we have this huge market that has items
on the lowest price and they was really
    into much in the competition
to the point that they were trash talking to other store

    ReplyDelete
  23. promoters were just every
well some were annoying but some were quite interesting
just like those who work on appliance centres
they were using their videoke machine to attract costumers

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. but i think it was really hard to trust them
i mean of course it was given for them to talk
all the goodness about their product to the point
      that were quite unreal

    2. just like what we usually see in tv ads haha

  24. but i guess one of the worst experience i could remember
is back then when me and my best friend went on a distant and famous church there are some ladies who would give you
religious necklace which you will though for free but one you get hold of it they would ask you for payment
and they wont accept it back good thing my best friend was quite brave to reject it

  27. and guess what they even are now leveling up by taking their blah blah on the phone.. they have the audacity to call your number and bug you with their products

  28. Instead of persuading people and say "sir, i think this brand you are going to buy isn't that good.. this one i'm having is much better, you should buy this one instead~~"

why not think another creative comment and tackle the produce? hahaha it is useless for me thou, and promoter that mention this sentences is dumb
