Thambee dei...you are not even uncle yet but you sound like one today. Sports shoes and formal pants are very common in overseas now. I think You & I need to go back and live in the slums of Chennai.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying hard to tune to the ever changing fashion scenes for MEN!
Oh good for you TM.. it's always nice to blend in with new fashion trends... not because you want to put yourself in but just to try something new for yourself and see if it works for you...
DeleteI used to flip through MEN's Pret A Porter magazines where they show the hunks in Milan and Paris wearing tongs, sandals and what nots with formal looking attire. I thought it was just mere artistic photography but they really wear and parade on the streets.
ReplyDeleteThose Men's clothing of Haute Couture are definitely for those well heeled who would wear matching shoes otherwise the designers would not allow them to spoil their brands with wrong shoes worn. That's how kiasu the glam world is all about.
I know a number of my friends who wear their running shoes with their formal wear. LOL
ReplyDeleteI will only wear sport shoes with my jeans or shorts. I never wear it with my formal attires.
DeleteI will not also wear sport shoes when i am in office wear... Would rather bring along and change it...
ReplyDeleteI am no fashionista but I know the basic rule - the shoes must match the clothes! But some people will say, so what? And they mix and match without a care in the world. Who's to say they are wrong, right?
ReplyDeleteThe first 3 photos memang tak kena langsung. The one on the left, high top sneakers made the pant leg all scrunched up. I actually like the sneakers - black and white very striking and would look great with jeans.
DeleteThe middle one, alamak, the color pun off! This one is an eyesore to me. In fact can make this auntie cringe!
DeleteThe one one the right paling best - selipar Jepun! So casual hah..hah... Maybe he is wearing it for a short while only, either he is already on his way home or he will change shoes when he reaches his office/party/meeting.
Deletenot a fashionista either... in fact i'm the worst in terms of fashion but good thing you follow this basic fashion rule about wearing appropriate shoes for your outfit.. but then.. I guess fashion are evolving year after year and people try to experiment new looks
DeleteI agree with you that the bottom two look very smart and very ngum. It's the shoe design (not high top) and also the right length of pants. As for color, the one of the left is better.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible to pair sneakers with formal wear if the design and cut complement each other. That can make it some sort of smart casual look.
DeleteI have seen some Mat Salleh ladies in nice dresses wearing socks and sneakers while shopping. It looks funny at first but I can see the practicality. Not easy to walk and shop while wearing heels.
ReplyDeleteBut I do like those young girls who wear blouses and short skirts with sneakers. Looks cute and smart.
DeleteI admit that I prefer sneakers and even selipar Jepun as footwear because they are comfortable. Of course can't wear those for formal occasions and also not in the office.
ReplyDeleteI have seen some ladies wear slippers in the office when they are not seeing customers or not in the presence of their bosses. Just put a pair under the desk to wear while doing work. But change to their proper shoes when going to see their boss or going to another area in the office.
DeleteI wear slippers in my work place too. Very convenient as I have to stay long hours.
Delete自相矛盾。天口咁熱,仲理得佢乜配搭,著得舒服咪得囖。
ReplyDeleteWe should wear clothes that match the occasion. Clothes should match the shoes too. Otherwise, one will probably look out of place or weird. But certain people wouldn't bother if their clothes match their shoes provided they feel comfortable.
ReplyDeleteAgree the bottom two look nicer
ReplyDeleteIt is not only the shoes, the bag, the watch also must match to get a smart look, I always like to admire those guys who wear very smart out in the streets, not only guys will look at girls but girls would look at guys too
ReplyDeleteMy then office don't have to wear very formal, we can wear jeans even on normal days, good for us because we don't have to crack our mind and stressed what to wear, not so strict also as long as you are neat will be ok
ReplyDeleteAnything match with sports shoes or sneakers will make you look younger and youthful, try it!
ReplyDeleteI'm guilty here hhaha.. Actually I never pay so much attention to fashion.. i wear whatever is available in my closet LOL.. I am not a big fan of formal shoes so sometimes, I try to match my sport shoes with a formal dress (I seldom wear one)
ReplyDeleteI don't really bother about fashion too. As long as I look good and not weird.
DeleteAlthough I must say that if there is one kind of fashion statement that I will never dare to try.. these are the K-pop inspired fashion.. I just hate the vibrant colors of them, those bulky shoes and insane looking outfits.. Don't get me wrong.. even though I hate K-Pop music.. I am nothing against these new trends.. it's just that, it is not my style LOL
ReplyDeleteYou can call me old fashion though.. i love wearing polo shirts and often pair it with eyeglass to make me look more nerdy LOL...I seldom go out wearing t shirts.. it's either a polo or anything with collar or hood hehe.. Is that weird? For pants, I wear anything from jeans to slacks..
ReplyDeleteI always wear jeans paired with a pair of shoes or even slippers at my work place. We don't need to wear formal attire.
Deletehaha i pair my jeans with slippers too
Deletesame thing with the shoes.. I sometimes pair my pants with sandals and worst.. slippers LOL especially if I am too lazy that day... Yes, I guess you should try such style someday.. who knows.. it could be your new fashion statement huh
ReplyDeleteMorning SK and everyone here.. I'm back to work today.. 5 days holiday, today feel so lazy.. Yesterday was company's replacement leave, so no work..
ReplyDeleteEh, the pictures you posted, it's the trend now hor? Or was it last year? I go MV or whereever, I see youngsters wearing like that leh.. Even TV celebrities when they are hosting on stage.. They wear formal, and then they wear sports shoes/sneakers.. I see also mm hoi wai, but then, I think they do this for a reason - to look outstanding, for you to observe..
If I need to choose, I would say the 3rd picture from your top row is a BIG NO-NO !! Boo! What on earth is that? Wear nice nice on top with long pants, then down there slippers/flops? Errr, sorry, that turns me off leh.. Others still ok..
DeleteAt one time, those HK TVB actress, they wear formal top, like a piece of coat or something, then wear bermuda pants and boots.. I see also mm hoi wai, but actress wor, so I guess got reason one.. That time "hing" kot.. That Chui Chi San wear one, that time.. Long sleeve top with jacket, like office wear, then bermuda shorts wor! And boots.. Errr, weird?
DeleteIf I give my opinion, I would say if you want to try, do try the first picture from the second row.. The one with Nike shoes.. I think that one very ngam you..
DeleteSometimes a pair of sport shoes match well with certain formal pants. just got to try it and see for ourselves.
DeleteI think match with any shoes is fine, but not match with slipper lo...don't know why, I can't accept guys wear slipper like 人字拖, if goes to beach is fine, but like to shopping mall or out for dinner...slipper, umm, no no no!!
ReplyDeleteNo such headaches for me, because I don't wear formal to work. T-shirt and jeans and sneakers FTW! XD
ReplyDeleteGood morning SK
ReplyDeleteHahaha...must match ah? now i see not many will bother la. Could be influence from all the korean and taiwan movies kot. new trend ma . no need to match
okay okay...am one of the guilty one la during my working days.
ReplyDeleteWearing working attire but after work will change into sport shoes to chase LRT/KTM. Coz it's easier la to walk with sport shoes rather than high heels. i know it look odd la but then again hentam la. As long as my feet feels happy.
Maybe can even start a new trend. Hey...maybe they copied me leh Kakaka
I have to agree with you that I change my mind immediately when I see the bottom two pictures. The sport shoes aren't those bulky type, they are actually so fashionable. I can imagine this type of style on my idol Lee Minho. But then, if it is Lee MinHo, he wears tuxedo with slippers also people say him stylo one. Kekeke!
ReplyDeleteIn fact, trendy type of sneaker can be well matched with formal suits. I super like those styles at the bottom two pictures.
DeleteThe top part 3 pictures, I still can accept the middle one. I find it ok.
As for myself, when I went to gym after work, sometimes I would change my shoes in my car and walked into the gym. Just a short distance and everyone recognize me as gym freak. I don't bother how weird I am already. I just wanted to start my exercise soon.
DeleteThose stylish sneakers I don't think it is meant for sports, i think it is meant for looking stylo only. Therefore I will still buy those bulky but more practical for me to run, that it is.
DeleteOh today is about fashion ya?
ReplyDeleteHmm to me, wearing sport shoes with formal trousers seems acceptable, but of course sport shoes go best and perfect with sport wears or denim la.
Like you said, yea probably for the sake of convenient that's why some people change into sport shoes/sandals after work, may be for a quick dinner/drinks. If change the pants along then a bit troublesome ma.
Speaking about this.. What do you think wearing checkered 衬衫 with short pants? I see many guys wear like this, at first I find it odd too, cause this type of shirts looks quite formal and cool, must go with either denim or long pants.... But if with shorts, seems a bit strange. But don't know why, 看着看着 I feel ok pula, may be because too many people doing this so it's like a common trend already, haha xD
Actually this trend you are sharing today, can give it a try la! Who knows you can accept once you see in the mirror? =) I mean no harm trying ma!
Actually men these days also care about fashion and appearance liao ho? Last time, just cincai only, now, they can be more 讲究 than women! Even skin care for men also got a lot of choices these days. 男人的保养市场有得做哦!:p
But my man still remain the same, 10年不变 one... May be because he's from small kampung like Taiping, and may be he's not interested in this, not really into fashion. His appearance is always t-shirts with shorts and his favorite Hush Puppies slippers. If attending wedding dinner, then with denim and sneakers, haha!
Erm got good and bad la, good is can save money haha, bad is his wife will be boring looking at the same type of attire every time, LOL!
Talking about our husband's style here, ok! My husband is uncle, no doubt. He very rare invest in fashion. He lives down to earth, but he wants to buy shoes and clothes, he will buy branded and expensive. Very different from me, I don't mind wear cheapo clothes, as long as I look nice in it.
DeleteMy husband very particular in his shoes, never I see him wearing sneakers with formal outfits. He will wear his leather shoes or kasut batu.
He doesn't mind invest in good shoes, I can see that when he choose shoes for his daughters. He always mad with me, because I went pasar malam and bought shoes for my daughters. He said this type of shoes is not good for their legs.
DeleteWah your hubby kaya ma! Hehehe... :p
DeleteHe just sayang his daughters la and wants good quality stuff for his dearest princesses. But hor actually pasar malam shoes sometimes not bad also de leh, some can even last longer than branded ones ok. Like I bought a pair of Aldo sandals last year, the strap putus after like 2-3 months of wearing =_=" But the one I bought online, RM 20 only, now still in good condition wor! Hmmm..... I guess depends on lucks also ya?
hmm... fashion post today after the Raya holidays! All along you always give me the impression that you are neat and take good care of your dressings! Well, there are a few types of men here before I go on further to comment :-
ReplyDelete1. Those who dress well for the occasion and always keep themselves neat and up to date, including the hairstyle. Usually these are the young to middle-age group of men. They wear the right attire to work, right attire for sports, casual enough for shopping, smart enough for parties or events.
2. Then there are the bo-chap type. They always wear the same attire for whatever events until they are 'order' to wear the right attire. These can belong to all age groups.
3. The 'standard' type. I belong to this group. Almost like the first group I mentioned but not too fashionable. We wear the right attire for work, sports and other events but usually it's the same standard wardrobes. We will wear working shirts to formal dinners , instead of some slightly exciting ones, same hairstyles and probably always jeans/bermudas and t-shirt for casual events.
4. Oh.. I just remember my wifey told me about her friend boyfriend who wore a t-shirt and track pants to a wedding dinner . These are the insensitive type, different from no.2 and these cannot be force. Thy simply don't care what they wear.
OK, I will not do that too, by wearing sandals or sports shoes or sneakers if I am wearing a formal working pants. Yes, I also see lots of folks doing that for the sake of convenient especially if they have a sports session after work and don't bother to carry another pair of shoes. I always carry my sports shoes with me in my bag.
ReplyDeleteI think since lots of folk drive in Malaysia, I don't see it necessary to do so since they can always leave their sports shoes or sandals in the car. In SG, its a bit difficult since most people are not driving.
I find it definitely looks terribly awful with this combination. I will never do that.
Nowadays, there are shoes bags available easily and cheap and one could easily put in the sports shoes in the bag and then , hold the bag and head on to office. Even some backpacks also accommodate sports shoes besides the laptop.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the second pix at the top seems not too bad. Maybe the shoes are brown and mixed well with the trousers. I think if the shoes are able to mixed well, it is not too bad then , especially some shoes are quite fashionable.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is awful .... I used to do that in my teens but I have stopped. During then, the baggy trousers are a hit and we always wore it with our badminton shoes as it is cheaper compared to running shoes. We seldom wear jeans then as it is not in the trend.
No way will wear sandals like that unless it's required by the company especially in those manufacturing plants where cleanliness is needed or medical condition like sprained ankle. I will never wear sandals with trousers...hahaha... I might wear it with Bermudas but only for short distance walk.
ReplyDeleteOh ... I have commented on the lower two pics. Yes, unless the shoes is fashionable enough to match your trousers which also have to be matching! Anyway, I don't think I like wearing tight trousers. I tried once and it's too uncomfortable and moreover, as a middle age uncle, it also looks funny..muhahahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteI think its not easy to find a good match - have to find the matching pants with a right size shoes, like you say, not too big and too small. But it's nice to give it a try. Maybe can do away with the usual working pants and match with a khaki pants from Dockers and a casual shoes. I guess lots of angmohs wore like that.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, sometimes certain situations also affect how we dress and wear. Due to the hot weather lately, I have been wearing short sleeves instead of the formal long sleeves to work. I was drenched when I walk to the eatery for breakfast and then to take my bus to work. I was sweating profusely in a long sleeve shirt and it helps so much with a short sleeve. At least, it's more cooling.
ReplyDeleteThen, also depends on the working place or town/city. Like hayley said, I find that in smaller towns, most folks tends to wear more simple and casual than big cities in KL and SG. If I work in a small town, I will likely wear jeans to work if my boss doesn't mind as well as the work doesn't required us to meet clients.
Yaya, influence by the fashion in the place we living. Like in small kampung like Taiping, people usually just wear normal like t-shirts and shorts, and sandals. Unless when attending special occasion like wedding receptions or going to the pubs la.
DeleteThen imagine if suddenly someone wearing boots to drink at the hawker center, sure everyone will stare semacam, especially those uncles. So we will feel kinda awkward and shy lo. If at big city like KL, I am sure no problem. So, it really depends on place and occasion also la.
When I started reading your post, I was thinking to myself, walao, this SK is so conservative type of guy. Then when I reach the end of your post, eh, not so conservative after all because is considering wearing sneakers with office wear. I say go for it! I say that mainly because I wear black sneakers to work with whatever I wear to the office, hehehe but I think I belong to group 1 instead of group 2 so you would probably go tsk tsk tsk if you see me, hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThis is called Personality... wear smart and cool especially when one is working or going for meetings... but I know I am not that... I wear really casual when I am off working... hahahaa... but it is a good habit to dress up neat and tidy at all times...
Good morning SK
ReplyDeleteYes, my office we used to change from heels to sandals , slippers or something more comfortable when the doors are closed for customer. After office hours or when going out for lunch. All " kaki lang" so we made office like our home la, So if you go to my office last time, you will see we wearing formal wear with sport wear or whatever. Last time when our office have carpet, we even berkaki awaym leh. Tarak wear shoes
oh you carry along your sport shoes when you go for sport ya. I guess coz you biasa with that already la. Depending on choice la. Individual suka d whatever. For me, am lazy. I would just wear the sport shoes instead of carrying. If can sekaligus the baju also wear sport baju. But mostly not possible la
ReplyDeleteaha...now have idea what to give you for birthday present liao. Shoes bag since you carry your shoes using proper shoe bag instead of just stuff into any plastic bag. Shoe bag also good idea la. after dirty can wash. More environmentally friendly than putting into any plastic bag which can bocor and dirt fell out from the plastic . dirty the car.
ReplyDeleteeh the first set of three photos not so bad la.
ReplyDeleteThe one on the left at least he wears the trousers with dark sport shoes instead of bright colors ones. From the background it look like some sort of semi-social event kot so dress code not fully enforced.
The middle photo pulak at least cover all toes la though the color is a bit not matching with the trousers and the vest.
The right side photo...errr.....looks like wanna go for hawker stall wor. Maybe after office wanna go mamak and eat kot. Okay...must think positive...maybe that guy punya proper shoes is at the cobbler ...so he is wearing the slippers that the cobbler provided while waiting for the cobbler to sew or glue his shoes. kihkihkih..imagination overactive
On second set of the photos...okay la for me but I just feel like so "meh" when see guys holding that type of bag as in photo on the left hand side. Sport shoes and the baju matching but then holding that bag...seems odd la. Feel like girlish though inside the bag might consist of big bowling balls instead of cosmetic and junks that a ladies bag have. No way...out la that guy.
ReplyDeleteThe one on the right side is much better la. at least more professional looking.. If you wanna try...please please dont bring the bag that the guy on the left is holding ah. The guy in the right photo is okay.
Well...guess am not professional on fashion la. Auntie view. Too conservative la
