Commenting Tips: COPY!!!
Commenting Tips: COPY your comments before publishing

i have been using my phone to read blogs and type comments for quite some time now.. [...]"why phone?? the screen is so small and typing is so inconvenient!!" you may ask.. i will answer, "because i only have time to do this when i'm commuting to and from work, so i can only use my phone!!".. and using phone to post comments has taught me one great tip and cultivate a habit in me, that is to always COPY the comments, not only after you have finished typing but also while you are typing..

i shall tell you why this is a good habit to learn, especially if you are in the "mobile mode" but the following may also happen when you are connecting to Wifi using your PC:-
  • the internet connection (especially the data line) may not be stable.. you do not want to post your comment but end up the line is disconnected, all you see is "page cannot be displayed" - comment lost!!
  • some blogs use mobile layout that is sensitive to swipes.. many times when you are typing your comment and need to refer to the contents, you swipe up but unintentionally swiped left/right and the blog loads the previous or next post - comment lost!!
  • the internet connection is stable and fast, but unluckily somebody else is also doing the same thing as you are doing.. both posting comment at the same time and you got a message "conflicting updates, comment not posted" - comment lost!!

i kena this many times and this is one of the most frustrating things that could happen on Earth, and i am sure you have had the same experience to retype the whole chunk of comments too!! most of the blogs do not have the "autosave" feature, hence it has to be us to do the manual save.. trust me, you won't regret doing this!! :)

    1. You hardly spam here so your level of frustrations cannot beat those Top 5 in the chart. Whenever our long comments disappeared after posting it here, we would scream our lungs and tear our hairs out. A blogger victim has lost a plentiful of his crown after spamming for a year.

    2. Don't mentioned about phones with that small display, I can even lost my long comments on my notebook when I accidentally click on other buttons which somehow exit the browser or go back to the previous screen. And, when I returned back, it's all gone.

Nowadays the notebooks also has a lot of function keys where you can accidentally press the function button follow by the key. Better to be safe, by copy & paste or copy to notepad if you are away for a while.

  2. This advice is very timely! Of late, I noticed that the first comment that I post on blogspot will disappear. It does not happen when I comment the second time (either on the same or another blog). It happens without fail and that taught me to copy before clicking on publish. But sometimes I forget and lose my first comment of the day. Very frust!

    1. Now I understand what is meant by the message "conflicting updates, comment not posted". I used to wonder what is that? Now I know that it is caused by more than one person posting a comment at the same time. So coincidence hah..hah... and that's why the comment crashed. Would that happen to just me or me and that other person?

    2. Oh I thought you knew all those alien words of lost comments here. I think it happens more often in word press than blogspot.
Also, the first commenter also kena and makes me wonder why so jinxed? Maybe SK programmed who the FC should be and whoever not in the list ends up in black holes. Wakakakaka

      Delete
    3. yeah, losing the FC status can be very frustating! Perhaps SK should remove it... hahaha... It will affect your mood to continue spamming.

  3. So far I have not posted comment using my mobile. I am still not used to typing on the phone keyboard. Always make mistakes and sometimes when I hit an alphabet, another alphabet comes out. This really make me bad mood!

    1. I will never forget that you only types comments using your PC. You make me wonder how fat your index finger could be for hitting wrong alphabets. Maybe you can try using the last fingers to type. Stay safe!

    2. You need to have thin fingers and a big phone , at least 5" and above ...muahahaha...

  4. For you copying comments is VERY relevant because your comments are very heavy in content and very long too hah..hah... No, I don't mind it at all. In fact your comments are a joy to read and shows that you read and really savored my post hah..hah...

Just imagine losing paragraphs of your comments! Wah! Start all over again is very frustrating.

  5. I kena many times already, that was before I use Word to comment.. Before that, I commented in some blogs, quite long also leh, I think it was yours or something, then leh, when I click publish, all gone or something, I forgot.. So I pressed back button lor, worse, all gone.. So I gotta re-type.. And when I re-type, semangat also gone already, didn't type as much as the first one already..

    1. Commenting in phone is the same.. Lastime, I used to comment at home first, before leaving for work, but after kena a few times, I rather comment at work at my pc.. When I comment in the phone, I didn't click copy like you.. Then something happened, the comment didn't show up.. I clicked back button, also gone.. So, lesson learnt.. I only comment in the office using my pc after that..

      Delete
    2. And since I'm commenting from office pc, I cannot maximise the window.. Coz there are bosses and colleagues walking around.. And from far, they can see the screen.. So that's how I got the idea of using Word lor..

      Delete
    3. Use Word good.. Win-won situation.. Can pretend to look busy, and no need scared comment gone or what.. Just copy and paste after I type in Word, senang right? And somemore can divide the comments into whatever paragraphs we like, to make it look longer.. Smart, eh?

      Delete
    4. So leh, my advise is, if can wait (the blogs won't go away la, and no harm commenting later or not the first commenter), comment when you reach office, using pc.. If can, don't comment from phone lor.. Dangerous, unless copy like you said, but mafan lor..

    5. Comment from phone giddy oohhh.. Tuk-tuk in phone, keyboard so small, somemore commuting that time moving here there, wah, giddy and dizzy oohhh.. Hahahaha..

    6. Aha! I never forget this smart and brilliant Princess Ribbon who fooled Anay many times as the fastest keyboard warrior who could type 8 comments per minute. Muahahahaha....
So you have always been safe with saved copy of comments. We need more smart ladies in this world.

  6. Wondered why you have no post today, then who knows when I check you have one now...umm you recently very 蛊惑, keep on change the time, wahahaha!!

And also another one, I guess this happens to those who clear they "browsing data history" everyday. Like me, I like clear my browsing data history once in awhile, because I don't like to see to much stuffs in my google chrome or safari or anything. I usually do it at night, but guess what, I forgot it on the next day, I forgot to login first...so like this...the first comment I wrote will be gone.

    1. I have to clear my browsing data everyday without fail as my office's personal PC, my iPad and mobile phone share the same history of what I googled daily. This is quite annoying at times as wifey accidentally saw what rubbish I googled in office from the iPad at home. It was nothing serious except that the connected sharing networks could be dangerous sometimes. That's how the bank accounts could be leaked into world news.
Why you stopped FC now that SK has changed to afternoon?

      Delete
    2. Xiao Ying - Yeah, I thought there was no post on Friday morning then when I log in yesterday night, I saw this post. hahahaa... Clearing browsing data is good as it secured your PC, especially browsers like Chrome can be used everywhere and your cache will be available too in other devices. You can alway bookmark the sites you wanted to visit or add the blog feeds to your blog or other portals like Yahoo!.

TM - What have you been surfing ? hahaha...

  7. Adui! I lost the comments I typed many times, especially the first comment before I login to google. Sure lost one. Therefore I copy my very first comment now. By the way, whenever I type long comment to you, I compose it at my Microsoft Word, then I only copy to the comment box. Sure it is very safe as I have written down in Microsoft Word. I feel so frustrated whenever I lose the comment I type.

    3. Anyway, it is good practice to copy our comment while typing. Thanks for the tips, I will then feel much safer to type with my mobile phone. Regardless it is for blog comment or whatsapp, right?

    4. Oh boy! It just happened to me again. I was replying the comments in my own blog. I replied SK's comment. When I published, cilaka! The web page is not found error appeared. I quickly clicked at the back button, then I couldn't find my comment. I clicked at the left arrow button, I also couldn't find my comment. I blamed myself for not copying the comment. Then I refresh my blog just to give it a final confirmation of the lost comment, hollysmoke! I saw my comment was published. Phewwww! Scare die me!

    5. Composing your comments in MS Word can be tedious , as you needed to write there then copy and paste back to blogger. I think the rate of failure is not that high in Notebooks/PC compared to mobile as you likely using a wifi, which is mostly stable.

Hmmm ... what browser you used ? Should get away from IE , try Chrome or Firefox.

    6. I kena such case also, many times, so I always type my comments in a notepad then only paste in the comment box, a bit troublesome but this way I don't have to worry about retyping those comments. Of course this works if I am using laptop/pc la, if using iPad/phone then different story lo.

  14. wordpress blogs are also quite a problem.. because when you click the submit button twice (accidentally hitting it twice).. it gives you to an error page... some wordpress blogs allow you to recover the comments by hitting the back button but others do not and again, that leaves you no option but to type the comments again

I was so damn pissed that I refused to re type because I did not save. It was not my first time encountering a David Blaine disappearing act using iPad.

    4. Aiyo... I will never use iPAD to comment as it always gave me problems. Its much better using an Android tablet. Somehow I find it very difficult to comment in ipad, maybe its the keyboard or browser. It always gave me 'your device i incompatible ..... message.

And, it hangs after I have typed in certain words where I needed to click the button done and get back to the editor. Very frustating!

  20. I also used to comment on blogs using my big note 3 for a while as that was also the only time I had while commuting. Well, I am taking an hour long bus to and fro my company an besides listening to the radio and reading news, that's the best time for me to keep updated on other blogs. After all, there's nothing to do while on the way to work in a bus. hahaha...

And, to those who read my comments, you may notice there are always typo error. Well, can't help it as I am using a smaller screen to comment!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes, I agreed with you that it's best to copy first in case your long winded comments are all lost due to certain reasons. Not just the above may happens but here's another list -

    1. Browser problem , especially after you have updated to the latest version. It just hangs or closed prematurely.I encountered this before on Chrome in my Note 3 back then.

    2. You accidentally clicked on something like closing your browser app especially when the train or bus breaks... or someone pushes you in a crowded train.

    3. Suddenly your keyboard hangs and you needed to restart the app, especially if you downloaded third party keyboards plugins.

    4. While you are typing, someone calls you and when you are done with the call, you realised all your comments missing as you could have accidentally close all apps especially in Android.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So far, I ever encountered the conflicting message all in my life except Wordpress always complains of duplicate comments where I only posted once. Well, it might be I could have clicked twice and send the comments twice ... hahaha..

    2. bluedreamer27 - I guess that's a Wordpress feature to inform us of the duplicate message. Thus, when commenting on WP blogs, we have to be a little patience. :)

    3. I never owned a word press and have no idea which is better?? I could say that most word press layouts are sadly messy looking! Is it the fault of lousy choice of templates or the blog users are not creative to design good layouts....(?)

  23. Anyway, I have stopped commenting on my phone lately after I have switch to iphone. Why ? Well...two reason :-

    1. I always realised Iphone complaint of some incompatible browser when I use Chrome to comment on blogspot blogs. Anyone encountered this? However, the comments went thru safe and sound but I find it irritating.

    2. oh... lately, I used to doze off or rather taking a power nap in bus, so besides radio, I stop all activities in bus... hahhhaa...

    1. Chris, it is good that you take a nap in bus rather than looking at your phone. I can't do anything on moving vehicles. I will get dizzy and throw out easily. Don't ever mention about writing comment for blog post or anything.

    3. Yannie - hahaha... I just want to catch a nap as I always slept late and I want to feel fresher in work. Sometimes, commenting on blogs on the small screen easily strained my eyes, besides the irritating typo on other blogs.

SK - You should take a break too unless you are using surface pro or tablets. Rest your eyes.

    4. You better revamp your whole lifestyle patterns of sleeping too late when the whole world is already asleep but you are reading blogs and surfing porns online. That's the problem for having a 'bachelor' life away from home. You end up struggling to stay awake at office with coffee and take cat naps on the buses daily. Your body and all its organs are screaming out when you torture them for the marathon running events. Go to sleep early!

    3. If I am now working on Saturday, I will not read blog or leave comments on blogs. I will do that only on working Saturday. I hate working on Saturday. Like you, weekends are supposed to be meant for family. But, I have to work on alternate Saturday. It is so boring to work on Saturday. Therefore, I will use it to blog hop.
Then, I can type my comment with my PC peacefully. Shhhhh!

    4. yeah... btw, typo in my comments, I mean 'not many updates' on weekends.

I will be busy with family on weekends, so don't think I will on my PC unless I have spared time and got nothing to do. If really nothing to do, i might take a nap to rest... hahaha... cos I don't get enough sleep during weekdays!

    5. It seems that most bloggers worldwide will hibernate during weekends! The statistics reported that there are over 31 million bloggers in United States alone with 43% using Wordpress and 35% blogspot. Interesting?

What a sad thing that Yannie has to work on weekends in accordance to the trend of their parent company's native country. They clever to exploit the workers and many often had shorter lives. At least this smart lady would work smartly and read blogs instead but we know all know she comes here most often!!!! tsk! tsk!

I do read a lot of blogs over the weekend when I am waiting inside the car or restaurants or even toilet. I prefer blogs and not FB which is full of negative news and slanders by hate people.

Sometimes in the midst of typing comment in the comment blog, if I scroll up to read, and come back to type again, then the cursor will go disappear, no matter how I type also no use already. 27. 10-July punya post!! So many days I missed blog hopping huh!! I have been kept super busy over the weekend and yesterday was public holiday in Penang as well...

I don't like typing text on my phone more than necessary, so I never leave comments from my phone. I get the frustration, it is so much harder to type on the phone screen compared to a keyboard, if the comment is lost, frustration to the max!

I think there is a higher risk of comment lost with the platform you guys are using, especially with this new Captcha verification thing. I have been on the receiving end of many "Failed to load" and comment lost, even from the PC! Every time I kena, I would do like you recommend, copy the comments before press submit, but after awhile become lazy to keep it up... until the next time I fall victim... :/

  28. experienced the scenarios you've mentioned above and they really are frustrating so yes, we gotta learn to COPY our comments especially when using mobile. I do, though sometimes, I tend to forget. hehe...

  29. Seems like smartphone is something everyone can't live without these days!
Erm you cannot curi curi surf net during work? Not even a while? I knew you mentioned before that you blog hop while on the way to work/home. So I can imagine you are actually one of the 低头族 now, hehe~

Anyway, have to admit smartphone and data play such an important role in our daily life these days but for me, if I can choose, I will still prefer to type using keyboard lo, so much faster and more efficient!

Using smartphone got its pros and cons also la. Like those you mentioned lo. Sometimes memang copied already but can't paste! Cannot explain why also, so have to go back and copy again. For me, safest way is to type in notepad then only copy, instead of terus type in the comment box, cause unexpected things will just happen. We can't tell when our phones will go sort sort right?

  30. hahaha...for a moment there i was puzzle why the said topic. Copying. Ingat copy cat in school or what.

You also commenting on phone ah. Usually for your blog i cannot comment using phone coz will definitely kena one or all the scenario that you have mentioned above. Argh... really geram to the max when this happens.

Anyway, thank you for taking time to leave comment in my blog . Very hard to "tuk tuk" using the small phone while commuting to and fro work. Some more the shaking motion makes it harder. Lucky you dont have motion sickness .

I know how to copy comment AFTER typing but how can I copy comment WHILE typing?Got a special comment for that? am very interested to know.

I am accustomed to typing the press enter to comment. I do not have a habit of copying after typing the comment . hence kena many time like hard work all gone when one of the above situations that you mentioned happen

At times am just too lazy to copy and paste to S Memo then go back to the blog screen to press enter. Just too time consuming and also it takes up memory in my phone. Then later i have to go delete from my S memo pulak

Not as much as item 2. Touch wood so far tarak kena mobile site for blogs that is sensitive to swipe. Or maybe have to do with some setting on my mobile phone kot coz i disabled several swipe function on my mobile phone. Phone too high tech but user like me not high tech enough to follow the trend. No choice. Better for me to disable them, lo.

  32. as for item one "Page cannot be Display ", I kena many times la. at lwast for blog is still okay but when doing downloading ebooks or some transaction. That one really frustrated.

How i wish the creator of the mobile phone have come up with something like "copying" for when I am downloading something. Meaning that it would continue downloading from where it have left off. I know some downloader able to do that for desktop and laptop. Maybe 5 to 10 years down the road the mobile phone creator or telco provider will come up with this function. Saved my data $$ a lot leh.

  34. You mentioned blogs with autosave feature. How is that? maybe can elaborate how and whether we can incorporate it in to our blog. I know you one. You can teach in layman language till old dinosaur like me can understand. It would be nice if my blog have this feature(if it doesn't have it now). At least my readers if they get disconnected and they tarak copy their comment , the log would auto save for them leh. Thank you thank you first ah
