after since the bad experience we had with a groupon one friend bought last year, i was rather skeptical about all the unbelievable attractive offers.. until i saw this Italian Degustation A La Carte Buffet Dinner the other day, i kind of analyzed and thought to myself, justifiable discounts and hotel restaurant won't be too bad right?? and i quite like their idea of having the main dishes in degustation buffet style.. hence, i placed a bet and bought it for my birthday dinner.. thank god, food wise and service wise, it turned out to be quite good and didn't disappoint me at all, instead surprises at times.. glad, my virgin groupon purchase wasn't a failure, most importantly the bet didn't spoil my birthday, haha!! so, degustation a la carte buffet, how was it like?? errr, though not authentically italian i tasted, but having 10 delicate-looking bite-size courses served one at a time, it somehow felt like some down-to-earth haute cuisine, haha!! well, at least something different this year~~ :)
[note] apologize for the photo quality, as they were taken using my phone and the restaurant was quite dim..

  1. Looks like a great fine-dining dinner albeit not 100% perfect but for a Groupon deal, I'd say it was satisfying? Thanks for sharing.

      Delete
    2. hahaha, too bad we didn't got to see who were in the kitchen, so we rather not want to know and continue to imagine a hairy armed Mario in there.. the waiters however were mostly locals actually.. errr, Anay you were wrong, not left home at sunrise, but left home BEFORE sunrise!! :D

    3. Ladies, you can safely order 1001 things from Groupon. I have ordered many food vouchers, sunglasses, cup cake maker, cockroach repellent device, gadgets and even a safety box!

I have no complains on my orders while some fussy people have complained until the cow comes home.

      Delete
    4. How TM? just register only? But is it redeemable at all places. Or only valid for Klang Valley or you know.. only at KL. Too far for us here at Taiping.

      Delete
    5. It is very easy lah. If vouchers for food or facial/ massage services, they will send you Pdf links to print. All items will be couriered to your door step in proper boxes with bubble wraps for protection. Sunglasses came in those plastic chicken rice boxes! Muahahahaha!

It is so common now in KL to see big groups of friends and families armed with Groupon vouchers at trendy & popular restaurants. Competition is stiff now.

You guys should look for Penang only Groupon offers on the food, car services or massage/beauty services. usually very cheap just to lure you to let their sales personnel persuade you to sign up packages but it's no obligations lah. You all high position aunties sure know how to kau tim them if not interested.

Just register when you decided to order with your credit card.

      Delete
    6. All the goods can be ordered from anywhere in Malaysia and will be couriered to your address. Items like baked cake orders or big luggage has to be redeemed from their shops in KL.

Why am I advertising so much for Groupon in SK's blog??? Mampus lah Anay! SK will reward me with 100.0 N-score.... Sobs! Sobs!

Like many things in this world, you have to read the terms & conditions lah..

Then you'd know which branch can go makan, what date, whether got blackout dates or not, what you are entitled or not...

      Ask Anay for what?

      He doesn't own Groupn.

      Or does he?

Anay, if you do... tell me ah.. :P

yeah, always read the fine prints before taking action.. we have to be very sure what we are doing to protect our rights.. just like before commenting, we need to read the contents of the post and not just scroll down and taruh comments only.. muahahahahaha~~ :D

    15. I'm learning this skill by taking thambee as my role model. Put comment without reading the whole post words by words and yet not out of topic.

Like this post, "what a lovely birthday celebration at an Italian buffet! The food are mouthwatering and yummy, despite the portion is smaller than my expectation. Worth every cent you paid via Groupon", Ah Hua will comment as such.

      Delete
    16. hahaha, actually Thambee's posts all short and sweet, before you get tired of reading you have already finished reading word by word, haha!! and that coments above, it's so relevant but then are you sure you didn't read the contents at all?? those are very details only seen in the contents~~ :D

      Delete
    17. wei...ah boy...teach me la how to spam RELEVANT and RELATED without reading post. some ah the post so ahem ahem ah...dont know how to comment leh...but have to comment also la coz later they kecil hati pulak.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I bet you enjoy your day to the fullest! Despite not much complain over the taste and also their petite bite size portion.

      Delete
    2. With petite portion, you can taste even more choices from their ala carte right?

      Delete
    3. So after having more than 10 dish from starter, salad, soup, main course desserts and tea/coffee... does it all make your tummy happy?

      Delete
    4. Italian food always have this smaller portion compare to US - Big portion. Need 2 person to finish the whole Giant Burger for an example!

      Delete
    5. US portion is well-known for its big size. It's been that way even before the world war!

      Everyone knows that. :P

      Delete
    6. By the way,
I'm going to sound like an English teacher here...

Degustation means taking a small amount into the mouth to test its quality so of course the sizes are small.

So cannot compare this type of menu with full size menu offered.

Experienced high-class diner like you should that, right?

      Delete
    7. Nvm... advices from teacher is the most valuable ones! Kam siah banyak banyak

      Delete
    8. yeah, something special for my birthday lah, instead of having buffet and stuff myself to death, better try something different.. that degustation is great in a way that i can try a little bit of everything, of course with that portion, even i had 10 courses i didn't really stuff up myself lah, just nice.. hehehe!!

true that the american portion is always huge.. the italian usually comes in smaller portion but then again, there are always more courses to go.. so in the end, also quite the same lah, concluded the "ang moh" eat more than us Asian.. hahaha!!

      Delete
    9. ah boy ah...you really makes my sotong head spin la...what Degustation. I thought adik-beradik with indesgestion. My "england" no good. Lucky Lina explain else i realy bikin malu lor.

OOo no wonder the food in the post like bite size la.

But then eat bit bit like that good enough leh especially when with a group of friend. can enjoy and slowly taste the food. If big plate of food everyone will be busy stuffing themselves and no time to talk

The main course - beef, mutton, seafood and chicken. I would go for the salmon platter and also the "duck" meat. Eh... got any speciality with duck meat dishes inside the Ala Carte or not? or you didn't order?

      Delete
    4. K+L - Desserts time! Creme brulee is not my liking but I like the presentation. I would go for the pana cotta Italian pudding/custard.

    5. M - You don't drink coffee?
Conclusion, I want to try ler...wanna pester my hubby bring me go for Italian food ady.

    6. oh Italian bread is buttery?? hahaha, i didn't taste any butter in those basket of bread leh, i think perhaps they use more olive oil in baking the bread, haha~~ :D

and that one is NOT ravioli, i was so disappointed that they changed it to gnocchi without even telling upfront!! haiz.. and that wild mushroom soup, yeah, it depends what type of mushroom soup.. those cream of mushroom that they made from canned concentrates of powder (like those in fast food chain) is definitely a piss off for me, i must make sure that they make their own mushroom soup before i consider to order that..

errr, duck wasn't in the menu.. those 5 main dishes (F to J) were all that in the menu, very limited choice actually, else of course i would have tasted more and show more photos.. haha!!

oh, i am not fans of coffee or tea actually.. i prefer juices, more refreshing!! hahaha~~ yes, you must "kutuk" your hubby to bring you to a nice Italian restaurant, maybe during your birthday or anniversary etc lah~~ :p

OK lah. Staff also not fussy. Just come, show coupon and they serve food.

  33. Anay will spam the food comments today and all the bloggers will scream at me again saying that Anay cannot beat Ajinomoto. I have been drooling at your photos for too long now so today I will comment sekali gus.

Photo A. Just the first round and you already wallopped two baskets and the sun-dried tomato bread! Thambee was so glutton!!! Adoi! Fatty Humpty Thambee sat on the wall...

I never tried this bombastic sun-dried tomato bread but would love to try. Photo looks nice!

    2. Photo C. Thambee is from India but you amazed Anay with your sound knowledge on Italian food!!! When and where did you learn all this fine dining with Mario food?

Raviolli with Basillica crab meat cream!! How mouthful this dish's name! Next time Thambee teach Anay how to eat this but I know you don't like it.

    3. Photo D. The caesar salad comes with fresh romaine lettuce with crispy condiments of beef bacon and garlic croutons!!! Mmmmn...sounds so healthy and delicious but I thought Thambee hates vegies. Once you swore that only cows ate salad. No???

Anay makes delicious salad everyday for Letchumy to eat for breakfasts. This has given me the idea to blog it next.............

    6. Photo G. Goodness I would be full by now with so much food being served earlier. This is Letchumy's favourite to sink her teeth in this oven baked salmon with clam chowder reduction.. I think the block of salmon filet is too chunky and big but you still finished it. What a bit appetite you had!

  35. Photo K. Mmmmmn... The dessert made me drool. I had never tried this delicious looking crème brûlée as dessert! Aiyo...even strawberry also could not please you. In Korea they could freeze the palm sized strawberries for up to 2 years and still export them!

    1. Photo L. I have seen this panna cotta many times at hotel's buffet but merely called it custard puddings! They are cheap desserts to make by just pouring the powder from its box and mix with boiling water before chilling it overnight. Easy to make lah but you liked it.

    2. Photo K. Wah! They even served you a cup of hot tea! How nice to help your tummy to digest before say sayonara to the hotel. I wonder if you would go through the same rituals again for your next birthday?

How much did you pay and how many fellas dined with you?
