[Volume 8 Issue 3, #1694]
there is this outdoor space in a building in town, where its tenant cafe places a few tables for smoking customers.. but these seats are more casually utilized by people waiting for pick-ups, you can all the time see people taking the convenience to sit there without ordering anything from the cafe.. fine, i am one of them and the cafe doesn't actually bother.. but this morning i witnessed a lady sitting down, ordered the waiter to move away the ashtray claiming that they smell horrible.. and nope, she didn't order anything from the cafe, but just took out her policies and documents, occupied the seat and started working there..
  • if she doesn't smoke and hates the smell of smoke, nobody forces her to stay in that smoking area!!
  • the ashtrays are setup for the cafe's smoking customers, but she didn't even buy anything, meaning she isn't a customer, so what rights has she to complain??
many times we see vain people around, enjoying advantage yet taking things for granted, thought they are so educated but what they did never seem to be reasonable at all, which may make others despise them even more.. let me hear what you think about this..

    1. That's what I'd do also.

      Just move it away.

      Then, wash hand la.

No need to order people around.

Or maybe can ask staff help, but with a smile.

    5. yeah, what's so difficult to move that ashtray aside?? i think moving it by myself is far more simple and convenient than i have to ask the waiter to do so.. it's like, don't push what you do not want to do to others, agree??

  6. I actually met my client who is a CEO of a listed company conducting his meeting with consultants there and it opened my eyes. On checking further, I realised that was a proper meeting area for people who preferred casual and relaxed atmosphere! Time has changed la Ah boy.. We should have bloggers AGM there too! Ask Mr Chairman Buruk SP to fix a date.

    3. yeah, i think there are more interviews and meetings being conducted in less formal atmosphere, and i think this is not bad at all.. people do not have to be so tensed up, and when the people get more relaxed, that's actually the true himself or herself, that's what i think..

SP only eat grass and workout on his new toy now.. no time for us~~ :D

  7. Last weekend in Singapore, I waited for a friend at Starbucks outside Swissotel. The whole big place was packed with students doing their homework and revision there. Overhere I often saw our students using McD outlets instead. So where does Ah Boy do his reports and revision??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Aiyoh TM,

In Japan also you see students doing revision at McD.

But if they are not inconveniencing anyone, let them be la...

McD at Bandar Tun Hussein Onn is filled with students too. But then, most at least eat a burger there.

We'd occupy a table at the Mamak for hours also, just drinking a cup of teh tarik sometimes. kekeke

      Delete
    2. Ya lor and McD have free wifi leh...for starbuck is more for working people la

      Delete
    3. of course McD is more affordable lah, there are still students who hangout at high class cafes (to me high class, but to them just normal kopitiam lah).. haiyoh, Ah Boy is poor student lah, cannot afford to stay in Starbucks, the most he goes to McD only.. and i will never occupy the seats without ordering anything wokay?? :p

    1. exactly!! it's something unspoken right?? that's a courtesy to the place as well as the customers, be fair..

  11. But of course.

We live in a time where people feels entitled to get things done for them.

We are living in a selfish society now.

Some more, where got class to do things on our own.

That's what maid are for, at home.

And service staff for, outside of home.

Trample and look down on them.

    Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. well, i never have a maid before at all.. and i always serve myself more than the servers serve me outside.. unless it's necessary and i don't have the access, i think doing it myself is more convenient than having to ask other people and wait for them to do that for me..

But it's got to be a place that's not crowded la... like Starbucks at Bangsar Village II. Sit there quietly, and enjoy free wi-fi also. ;P

    1. yalah, i always feel uneasy if i don't order anything but just occupy the place, even when there is no one around.. but this one, haha, sometimes too tired standing and since everyone is doing that, i just follow lah~~ :D

      Delete
    2. lepaking without order i think nearky everyone also have done before la but not to the extend of asking staffs to move the astray like that la...it crossed the line already. Not only that she didnt give business to the outlet but make more work for the staffs

      Delete
    3. exactly!! if she ordered something at least reasonable to ask for service lah.. but now she is just sitting there taking FREE advantage, i really think that's such a maggot lah~~

      Delete
  14. I want to believe that people who occupy a table will eventually make an order. Maybe she was meeting a client or business partner there and delaying making the order for when he/she arrives?

There are lots of possibilities beyond what the eye can see. Also, the world is a-changing with new paradigms. Shall I say, 'live with it' or 'embrace it'? Life. So challenging..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. nope she didn't order anything at all.. and it's actually not abnormal to not make an order at that place, most of the people will just sit there waiting for pick-ups, for which they won't occupy for long.. but in that case of her, she just laid all her documents on the table and started working.. well, if the changes are getting worse, i don't see why we should live with it or embrace it at all right??

  15. Nowadays, many people like to use those outlets free seating, free WIFI, free air-con and free cleaners for their own used without ordering anything.

No comment on such people, but I never do this myself. If I want to kill my time, I will go window shopping. If I want to take a sit, I will find a bench. If I want free WIFI, I will go McD or Starbuck to order something.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. true, I have no comments on such people too. For one thing, I don't take the advantage of this kind of place.

      Delete
    2. i will never do that also.. if i need anything from there, at least i will order a cup of drinks.. i feel uneasy to just occupy the space and use the facilities in the venue without any order made..

      Delete
    3. I finally witnessed some people used those outlets for free as their chit-chatting and gathering place, and when they left, the make in the table in mess. They threw tissue papers and rubbish on the table too. So bad.

  20. I hardly have extra time to 'kill' at the cafe. My schedule is packed with activities, especially with 2 growing kids.

I guess no harm if the place is not crowded, but at least after eating, clear the mess lah.

Eat nasi lemak and then leave the wrapper there for McD staff to clear pulak. tsk tsk

    1. yalah, no harm if the place is not crowded.. but still, if i were to do that, i will at least order a drink no matter the place is crowded or not.. i just feel uneasy and weird to sit there having nothing to drink and munch.. it's just like taking advantage lah.. if tapao nasi lemak, then at least also order a cup of coffee, and then don't leave the mess behind lah.. don't be a rude person~~

aiyoh, why Bangsar?? i thought Bangsar are all high class people?? but still doing low class thing.. tsk tsk tsk~~
