restaurants nowadays spent lots of money on their menu, hence many times we are really fascinated by the food we see on the menu, only when the actual thing is served, we are all totally disappointed.. the best excuse they have, "for illustration purpose only" of course.. however this haeun khon is amongst the many japanese/korean restaurants that i find very genuine.. the food look exactly the same as they are on the menu (if not better), the price is also reasonable, food and service are also above average.. the set lunch above at RM13.90 may be just simple fried rice with fried chicken, but one may feel pampered with the generous fried eggs, appetizer, salad, ice cream and green tea that come along.. with such a price, i would say it's really "incomplainable", more importantly i was so happy and satisfied with this set lunch, haha!! my hearty recommendation to all readers.. :)

    1. Good afternoon SK and everyone.

I was at Tanng Sifu just now for our lunch. This time I carefully ordered 2 main course and 2 drinks. It costs RM51. Ok lah! Cheaper than my past few days meals with my girls only.

  2. Looks delicious and for that price too.

I was at Manhattan Fish Market the other night and they too serve up food that is close to what their menu says.

  5. Haeun Khon? A hybrid of Japanese and Korean restaurant? The name sound so Korean~

I don't really like Korean food, must be something to do with the kimchi-related name. Just like some people like to relate Japanese food with wasabi :)

    1. It's a pity wor to limit oneself like that. Korean food has plenty of diversed cuisine that do not have kimchi in them.

Just like Japanese don't serve all their good with wasabi.heh heh

    2. I find the Japanese and Korean menus a bit funny sometimes. They do promote each other's food in their menus.

  6. RM13.90 can be considered cheap for a set meal, it comes with appetizer, salad, ice cream and green tea.

I had just tried the new menu at Sushi King - something like fried salmon with egg and onion served on steamed rice and it already cost me RM13.90! Oh ya, I had FOC green tea too =__=

    1. I don't step into Sushi King anymore unless I'm with someone who really wants to eat there.

      Tarak nice la.... :-P

    2. Not much choice here, when I'm craving for Japanese food, I have to visit either Sushi King, a local Japanese restaurant or another local Japanese restaurant. Price wise, all almost the same.

I don't really enjoy Sushi King but it seems that this franchise is the strongest of all. My favourite Genki Sushi went into silent years ago and other franchises don't want to open up their opportunity here.

    3. memang cheap lor of it is set meat for RM 14 like that . if order ala carte sure it's more than that.

  7. "for illustration purpose only", I've seen this statement many many times already and it's quite frustrating to learn that they are indirectly cheating the unaware customers.

And they purposely print the font smaller, so that the uncles and aunties with old flower eyes cannot be able to detect it. Kids do not bother to read, they just order!

  8. To make the dining experience worse, some of the food come "out-of-proportion" - just like the burger in my favourite fast food outlet. The vege drops in the box, the sauce drips excessively and so.

They don't respect the food and their customer by serving such horrid food out!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Talking about the menu, some restaurants change their menu seasonally. It's a marketing strategy in order to attract the customer to return. Re-branding or something like that.

And some customers are adventurous enough to try new things, so when they see something different on the menu, they'll go for it. Er, I'm one of them, kekekeke~

    1. The menu is actually for illustration purposes only so we can't expect exactly the same. I like to try new food displayed on the menu too.

  12. Wanakum! Bananaz's first ever experience eating Dolsot bibimbap at this Korean Restaurant in Amcorp Mall and shall never forget it. So nice and like it instantly its a love at first bite.

    1. Wah! Bananaz has good taste! The Koreans told me this is the most popular dish amongst Koreans.

      Delete
    2. bibimbap is nice. Dolsot are nice because of the crunchiness of the rice at the bottom of the stone pot.

I love bibimbap. It's eating a balanced meal. Right? All the sayur inside, the minced meat in the sauce and the runny egg. Oh my. Lapar already.

Must go Ko Hyang makan there 2moro. :-P

  13. Bananaz loves to eat all the stuff mixed up together we say 'yat wok sook' *one wok cooked* haha. The challenging part is the hot bowl is so hot kena finger burnt and lagi best even after finishing the food the hot stone bowl is still warm.

  14. Think for those not true to label restaurants should add this in their menu disclaimer which goes like this WYSINWYG..What You See Is NOT What You Get...then we are able to see the word "SIN" in the middle of WY*SIN*WYG which they have committed kakaka.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well everything is about advertising to lure people... They will brag anything from food to condos and even prostitutes! When you get the real thing - HORRORS!!!!!!!

  16. I have given up telling the waiters that their food looked different from the menus. Sometimes the photographers used magnifying glass as their lenses!!!

THAT IS WHY THEIR FOOD LOOKED SOOOOO BIG!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Muahahaha! I have one colleague who went arguing with the waiter because the unagi on her plate appeared to be very small compared to the menu's.

And that bugger waiter replied, "Yes, it is never meant to be the same, m'dm". You can imagine smoke coming out from my colleague's head!

  18. Thanks for sharing this haeun khon. It must be at Mid Valley, right? These few days, I have tried out Din Tai Fung, Canton I(again), and Tanng Sifu. Price wise, they are more or less the same. Each set range from RM12 to RM20. I think I kind of like Din Tai Fung. Food there very nice.

Another day to go, before I leave for home and back to reality.

I have an awesome holiday in KL. Wake up, breakfast, swim, read blog, go to mall, lunch, then back to hotel, dinner and sleep. How I wish my life is everyday like this?

I am sure everyone feeling the same when in holiday.

  20. this is most prone at fast food chains
foods appears bigger and yummier on menu and catalog,
but the real thing were quite disappointing

    ReplyDelete
  21. but i remembered i saw a video on youtube of mcdonalds showing how they photograph there products,
they have bought a bigger on their shop rearrange it at there studio and then there we have it,
    an eye drooling photographs

    ReplyDelete
  22. but I guess some doesnt do like that I remember a TV show featuring food photography i where they
paint foods up to the point they werent edible at all
and who has to suffer? the models of that ad haha

    ReplyDelete
  23. anyways good thing you have found an honest and genuine restaurant
and i must say that dish you order looks scrumptious,
    indeed mouth watering

    ReplyDelete
  24. Overall presentation of the foods somehow matters but i guess quality and the taste of the food matters the most
so even if they were looks exactly the same at the catalog if it taste good i guess thats acceptable

I love having noodles, so I visited mostly all noodles outlets. Too bad, I didn't go to those dessert outlets like Hui Lao San.
