How Good A Customer Are You??
Difficult Customers

hmmm, so we have been discussing so much about the services rendered to us as the customers, from exact change to security expectations to attitudes of the personnel.. i guess it is also fair for us to talk about ourselves being the customers, whether we have been nice or fussy in the eyes of other people around.. time to confess, folks!! and if you are or have been doing what are listed or suggested by other readers here, better think twice about it, haha.. have a great festive weekend ahead everyone!! :)
okay, if i am one who offer service, i would be very unhappy to serve the following groups of customers:-
  1. rude and arrogant customers who treat you like no one but think they are always on the right side
  2. fussy customers who insist on their weird and unreasobaledemands (yet do not really know what they want) but only raise up their voice if you are giving negative response
  3. pay me by throwing the notes and coins to scatter on the table and expect me to pick up one by one.. come on, you don't even treat a beggar like that right??!!

and if i am one of the customers, i would hate seeing other customers of the following groups too:-
  1. undecisive people who cannot make up their mind, asking tons of questions and holding up the line.. please decide first before even queuing up lah!!
  2. one whole family queuing up at the express check out lane, splitting their 30 items into several bills of less than 10 items..
  3. last but not least, QUEUE-JUMPERS!!

    2. I was at the petrol station that day. The pump attendant looked so unhappy. I told her to fill it up...and when she was done, she said, "Lima puluh tiga!" I have her RM50 plus a RM5 note and said, "Yang lebih, kasi you!" Immediately her face lighted up with a smile and she said thank you.

Many take these people for granted...and will demand for instant and good service and grumble and complain about these people. Imagine standing here the whole day in the heat, pumping petrol smelling the fumes...and I am sure they are not paid well, probably by the hour. What is RM1 or RM2...especially when it can help to make someone's day?

    3. I've given up on queue jumpers - used to tell them off and if looks could kill, I would have been dead long ago - as if I was the bad guy, they were not in the wrong. Never mind...I've got all the time in the world, not in any hurry to go anywhere just yet. If they "kua khee see" (rushing to their death), be my guest...go right ahead.

    4. "...one whole family queuing up at the express check out lane, splitting their 30 items into several bills of less than 10 items..." People talking about working smart, not working hard. This is along that same line. Playing the game, not breaking or bending the rules but beating them at their own game. Next time, bring your own family...or borrow others' kids. Hehehehehehehe!!!!!

    5. "...undecisive people who cannot make up their mind, asking tons of questions and holding up the line.. please decide first before even queuing up lah!!..." Typically Malaysian. I can't stand those too...and those who take their sweet time....fishing out the notes and the coins one by one when there is a long long queue waiting. Or there may be a group of young kids, talking, laughing like there's no tomorrow, fooling around in the front of the queue...taking their sweet time to pay and holding everybody up. I do wish people can be more considerate...but I guess they think it's their right! I'm first in line, I take my time...you all can wait. Seems like that's the attitude of the generation today - never think of others, just themselves.

    6. People these days seem to think that money is everything. They have the money, you must wait of them hand and foot - they expect the best, no less. I had a call from a mother asking if I would give private tuition to her kid and I said I was not interested. She retorted, "What? I pay you money, you don't want kah?" I could have told her that she would not be able to afford me...or worse, she could take her money and shove it up her you-know-where...but no, I would not stoop to that degrading level of the likes of her. I just said, no, thank you and hung up.

    8. STP - not really , money not everything. If the shop business is good especially makan place , they don't bother to layan you. I remember there was this famous beef kway teow in jalan imbi. The boss was so arrogant that he even said we ordered too much already and ask us why we still want. He gave us a cb face ...

    9. good morning STP.

uiks so long story but noboday sambung ah....what happen?

yea... sometimes if the shop too famous already they become arrogant liao, Chris.

    10. There's a pan mee shop here too.. The seller said "You can wait, you wait, cannot wait, I don't mind, 45 minutes"...

    11. I will not bother to go back and eat again. I just cannot understand how people can tolerate this kind of attitude and put up with this kind of nonsense.

Like the nyonya restaurant in Malacca - had to go in and write your name on the list and then go out and queue in the sun, wait to be called. Lots of empty tables inside but no, they would not allow you to sit and wait inside. Out you go!!!

I would have gone elsewhere but my friend said never mind, since we were already there, just wait. Food was the best at one time - not anymore... Maybe the old folks have retired or died. Will never go back there again.

Never mind seller/vendor or customer. Never mind how good you are. Never mind how rich you are. You just have to learn to treat others with a bit of respect. Pandai pandai tupai melompat...

    12. My friend just shared on Facebook day before yesterday - went to Penang, went to this old man's stall for his char kway teow...waited for 45 minutes and when served, THERE WAS A FLY in the char kway teow. I would have taken the photograph and send to the newspaper...and to the Ministry of Health. Being among the best is one thing - cannot be at the others' expense in any way.

Last time there was a small cockroach swimming in my iced plain water.. in a fast food restaurant.. i pointed it out to the waiter... no apologies, just took it off the table and replaced with a new glass of water.. oh, wonder if they wash the glass... I doubt! Anyway, I didn't drink from that glass...

    14. Another time was few years back before I started blogging.. I was at a well known dim sum restaurant in Ipoh... one bowl of porridge came and we asked for extra empty bowl.. and when we accidentally turned the bowl upside down, the whole "group of maggots" were all there!!!!
We screamed and stood up... the waitress quickly took table cloth and swiped off the maggots on the table.. no apologies... no compensation.. we still got to pay for the food we have taken... oh gosh!! That time no canggih handphone to take picture... so no proof to complain... sigh...

    15. Good Morning King of Kampua Chops & all bloggers.

We all have met rude and arrogant beings everywhere including the blogs and facebooks! Simple maths, there are more poor people than rich ones on earth. There are more bad guys than good ones too. Wherever we go, we will bump into these rotten maggots that need serious help. That's why I am so garang sometimes when I have to troubleshoot all the time at work.

When I have the mood outside, I would not hesitate to tell rude and bad mannered people off. I think I do that more often in China which is sadly the craziest place on earth.

      Delete
    16. Sometimes we also got to be prihatin to other people. Maybe they are really in a hurry so if we are not in a hurry just let them q in front. Does not really hurt us.

About dirty things, the waiters are just workers earning a salary so I do not expect them to apologize. The owner should be the ones apologizing.

  2. For the point 1, as a customer, they always have a thought that they've customer so they're right no matter what, so as a sever, you got to serve them also, even though you know they're intended to do so! =[

    1. #2 Yah right! Especially when they're in group, they'll discuses and comment this and that..looks like so proud for them...but actually it's embarrassing!

    3. #1 Okay! For this one is like queuing to buy movie ticket, don't know why these customers never have their wallet or money well prepare and they have to wait until is their turn, knows the price already then only slowly take out the wallet look for money...some even can't find their wallet..seriously?

Also argh they never decide what movie what to watch first, they goes to counter then ask the staff this and that(you expect all staff must have already the movie meh?)

Done with the movie, then they have to find seats right? Then they're like "looking for wife or husband" like that, takes forever to pick the seat...aiyo!! Really want to squeeze their neck, especially when people are rushing time to get the movie ticket to enter the theater...

    4. #2 This one I have never met before, but this can be so call a "smart way" for them?

      Delete
    5. #3 Of coz, bet no one would like queue-jumpers...people take their time queue polite but some people just being so selfish!! This reminds me while driving some people just never follow the rules, love to cut into the line thought they're very good in driving...but have they ever think about those who have been queuing for very long behind who doesn't have very good skill to drive like cutting here and there...so this's just like you very "sing mok" to cut line then you get to destination very fast...then how about those don't? If everyone also cut line, cut here and there...so who wants to follow rule to queue in the end?

      Delete
    6. for point one...if you are the boss then can always say "pi dah!" to the arrogant customer. LOL. Sometimes customer are too demanding. Like peribahasa says Bagi betis nak peha pulak.

#1 – We are all human.. Working only..Don’t be too serious la.. We tend to be rude to promoters/sellers, but please reflect on ourselves first lor.. Do unto others what others would do unto you..

      Delete
    4. #2 – Erm, fussy customers? SK, you fussy or not? Hahaha.. Like changing many times in the fitting room or ask this ask that before ordering something? Well, again, we are all humans, sometimes, don’t be too fussy la.. People working only, you ask them so much, they might not be able to answer also.. Especially those foreign workers operating franchise stalls..

    5. #3 – This one, honestly, I’ve never seen, never did before.. I won’t throw money at sellers la.. But if I’m the seller, I might just say “Come, throw more to me”.. Hahahahahaha..

Many many years ago, when my elder sister was still in Form 5 (Now, she’s 37), she had a quarrel with dad.. She got mad and said “Next time, when I start to work and earn my own money, “ngor yung ngan ji deng sei lei” (Direct translation: I use money throw die you).. My dad said “hou akk, deng lah”.. (Direct translation: good ahh, come, throw here)..

      Hahahaha – LOL !

#1 – I agree and sokong with this point.. Especially when I’m q-ing up at fast food outlets, and the “potato” in front of me, ask 3 ask 4, seems like dunno what he wants.. I’ll make a piss-off face, but too bad, he can’t see my face coz he doesn’t have eyes at the back of his head.. Haha..

    8. #2 – Ooohh, this one, biasa la, in hypermarkets.. Erm, let me confess, sometimes, I do this too.. Me and hubby, each take 5-6 items, and q up separately, so that we can pay at the express lane, hahahaha.. But that’s if the kids don’t tag along la.. If we have kids, susah lor.. I’ve seen people with more than 15 items q-ing up at express lane also, the cashier accepts also wor, no say anything.. Hmmmmppphhh…

    9. #3 – Hmm, to be honest, I seldom come across with q jumpers.. I mean, if she jumps the q, I bet she will be malu and paiseh also ma, coz sure other people will sound her, kan? Unless other people keep quiet, then different story la..

    12. The queue up separately thing, I also got do like that sometimes. Hubby and I stand at different queue then see which queue comes first, then we'll move to that, hehehe! Save time ma! :p

    13. We don't have a clear line for the customers to queue up so sometimes items got mixed up. Very troublesome.

  4. Good Morning! I like today's topic just as much as I did the previous three. Yes, we as customers also need to look at ourselves. Can't be complaining about the service staff without contemplating our own attitudes and behaviour right?

Oh yes, I hate those indecisive people! They take ages to decide what they want to order and worse, if their family members/friend/tag alongs in the queue with them also behave like that. I really cannot tahan lah!

So please, stand aside and make up your mind first before getting into the queue. Or if you are already in a queue, while waiting your turn, start making your decision!

    1. Have you been to the supermarket and seen people crowding at the produce aisle and all they do is stare and stare at the goods? They can't decide what to buy and they hog the whole area without thinking that there are others who want to buy also.

And worse, I have seen people picking up and tossing the vegetables/fruits around and making a mess (also ruin the fruits and vegetables in the process) and then they walk away without buying anything! And the poor supermarket staff has to rearrange everything all over again.

      Delete
    2. And at the cashier, some people don't have the sense to get ready their loyalty card (you know the Tesco Clubcard or J-Card) and only start digging into their handbag or wallet and holding everybody up while they are at it.

And what makes me even more geram are those that don't move away after they have paid and packed their goods. I mean, seriously if you want to check you receipt, move away first so that the next customer can pack their things. Once I had to say "EXCUSE ME!!!" before this moron slowly took her time to move away.

    4. Customers have a right to ask many questions. Mgmt should make sure there are enough staff to serve them and everyone.
    5. Ok to split items and use express payment lane. Why would you be angry at them? They are not harming you. They genuinely have that many people to do the job.

  20. Good day everybody!!

Wah SK, so with first post comes the 4th post today!! Haha, now who says you got no topics to blog about huh? ;)

Yes, it's fair enough to talk about us being the customers. Of course as a customer we would like to be treated good and with respect but at the same time, we need to do the same to the others as well.

    1. Of course! Nobody likes rude and arrogant people! Some customers have this kinda thinking, since I am the one who pay of course you have to serve me right! Well it's not wrong to think like that but it depends on situation also.

    2. Yes, especially elderly, hehe! Sorry no offend but in most cases I've seen, usually elderly people are the fussy ones, or those 'fu tai' (rich tai tai), they can be very 'yim chim' with their requests, some even more 'kek sei' is those who seems to not understand a word of the promoter! I've seen a case that an old lady request for extra something but the promoter had been explaning so many times that it's against the rule, then the old lady seems to get angry and terus walked out of the shop while mumbling to herself..

    3. Hmm, this is very rude but as far as I concern, I din't encounter this situation (touchwood la). Even if the notes/coins dropped it was also just unintentionally, and the cashier would apologize, I din't mind to pick it up myself since his/her attitude is ok, at least she apologized.

  21. And for part II:
    1. So true!!! Especially when buying movie tickets!! I notice got a type of people always do like this one (Don't wanna reveal exactly what type), even if just 2 people (a couple obviously) they need more than 3-4 minutes to finish buying the ticket. I observed and they seems having problems choosing the seats. Come on!! Is it so difficult to chose your seats?? If you really want very nice VIP view then go to Gold Class la! (Ok in my hometown there's no Gold Class or whatsoever :p)
I really don't understand what took them so long to choose a seat >.<
If for me, I will take my own sweet time to chose the seat only if there's no people queuing at my back. Else, I usually get it done within 2 minutes.

And like you said, please decide first before queuing up!

Same thing applies to depositing money at the deposit machine in banks. You know some machines are very sensitive so it'll take a longer time for us to successfully depositing all the notes. But some people will keep on trying and trying til all the notes are accepted, regardless of the queue at the back.
For me, if try 2-3 times still cannot, I'll leave, what to do? Feel paiseh leh since everyone at the back is waiting, unless if there's no people already la then I'll continue to try.
I just wonder why some people won't feel paiseh one....

    1. 2. This is funny! Really got people do like that? Hmm, I think I have not seen much cases like this...

      3. This kinda of people memang very 欠打! Worse is they act macam nothing after cut queue, geram lo!!
Speaking about this, I encountered an experience at post office one day, to send something. The queue was kinda long and I was at the 2nd one, suddenly a woman walked straight to the front and asked for stamps. Luckily the staff is smart, he told the woman to queue please. Then the woman answered, 'I hanya nak 2 stem je, bagi saya dulu la!' The staff replied 'semua orang pun beratur jugak, kalau nak cepat you tanya mereka tengok boleh bagi cut queue tak?'
Then that woman came towards me and asked if I can let her go first. I directly say 'sorry no'. Not that I am bad but please, it doesn't matter what transactions you are doing but everyone needs to queue and wait for their turns! I also waited there quite long already wert!

    2. Actually I think when it comes to servicing, for both parties, one key thing is, BE CONSIDERATE!!

    3. True, be considerate is one of the most important characteristics of customers and the service provider.

  23. I rarely have time to be annoying in shops, unless it is when accompanying girls for shopping. If I need to buy stuff, I usually will go online to zoom in what I want, then when I go to the shop, I will just request for the specific item.
If the salesgirl try to promote other options, I will tell her "No need to waste your time, dear. I know what I want, just get that for me please.", if she insist on blabbering, then I will tell her: "If you don't mind wasting your time, then don't waste my time please."
Shit.. that sounds quite rude, doesn't it?

  26. We who serve customers definitely dislike them to throw their cash to us. But we usually wouldn't make a sound but just quietly pick them up.

  27. We always try our best to be courteous but some customers could be rather rude. They like to criticise and made bad comments just about anything from pricing to packaging.

  28. Some customers think that they are like VIP and we need to serve them first. Some don't even know how to queue up.

    1. Something related to my previous comment, when we see ourself as the customer...How good I am? I've been as a promoter before, and of course being the potential customer (always will be)...hahaha. For me everything is a win win situation...

If you're intented to get something from a shop then walk in.
If you're not interested then don't go in... unless your partner or your friend asked or you accompanied them...
If you feel like you are looking for something, then get help from the promoter...Whether the promoter is a newbie or experienced that is another issue.
There are many factors actually... some shops are common, because we everytime go there... some are new and then we must help from the promoter...
For myself, I feel I'm consider the good one and the understanding one... last time I will complained but now no more... just a small issue.

    2. Some customers are really rude too, and don't just complain the salesperson... correct or not?

We are customers and yes customers are always right but unfortunately, customers are too stubborn and keep saying customers are always right....and aren't they have wrong too?

There are "lan si" customers too, so what shall we say here pula? So as a promoter, how to treat to kind of customer? it is defintiely not an easy task to do. Don't tell me I have to serve them like a queen or a king...
