| a friend came back from his trip to japan and gave me a talisman he got from the famous meiji jingu shrine.. i examine this japanese talisman and think it's very modern and commercialised, the perfect printing makes it looks more like bookmark to me.. it's really different from the chinese style taoism hand-scribbled talisman rooted in my mind.. please pardon my ignorance, cos i've not been to japan before mah, haha~~ |
nice..btw, what does the writing say?
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Blessings from Japan.

DeleteGive chance to other to climb on my head.
I am a firm believer of talismans and believe that it helps one in whatever they wish, so the relevant talisman has to be carried.
ReplyDeleteAiyah, everything pre-printed already there.
ReplyDeleteSome more, can buy them at vending machines!
Japan mah!
LOL
Sure boh? Talisman can buy from vending machines?????
DeleteTalisman is supposed to be blessed or chanted by monks.
Eh, can get the talisman from vendor machine?? Then the monks stay inside the machine ka? Wakakakaka
DeleteYou didn't state out what this Japanese talisman could bless you with. Money, luck, success, career, studies or wife?
ReplyDeleteYalor.

Used to be people complain that it's hard to visit Japan.
Now - everyone can fly to Japan, it seems.
Jealous! xD

ReplyDeletehmm I've never head of such thing or word as talisman. Was it really just a bookmark?
ReplyDeleteRad, it's not a bookmark (well, you can opt it for bookmark). It's a piece of paper chanted by monk for blessing in life, money, love, etc.
Deleteeven nowadays buddha pictures are printed on a card, with calendar at the back. put it in your wallet, use it as a calendar and buddha will bless you.
ReplyDeleteLatest: Of Balloons and Memes
most things are commercialized nowadays, but if we believe and have faith in it, it should be good!
ReplyDeletehi SK... sorry for my late come back... .. I'm sure I have missed a lot here.. I'm so sorry
ReplyDeleteoh what is a Talisman by the way? Is it some sort of an amulet to protect you from evil spirits or bad luck?
ReplyDeleteSame here... never been to Japan nor any countries ... so I have no idea about that at all hehe
ReplyDeleteSorry again for my late visit my friend .. wishing you a great day ahead and happy blogging!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I still prefer talisman in Chinese calligraphy - look more 'real' to me to ward off misfortune. Printed version looks kinda fake.
ReplyDeleteYou've got a japanese talisman, do you think the japanese gods will come to our country here for protection? Just wondering :p
ReplyDeleteWe don't pray to japanese god... er, do they share the same gods as we Chinese?
oh well, different kind of drawing goddess and superb different type of culture compare with Buddhist :/
DeleteBut I think the Main God is the same @@
去到日本都记得带平安符回来给你,
ReplyDelete都算不错的咯~~
这个符看起来真的很精致,日本的东西都很漂亮。
幾精美啊 (呢個商品)!
ReplyDeleteeh why japanese word? the talisman from japan? whoa :D

ReplyDeletenormal talisman is only paper and cannot kena water lo :/
SK, it sure will "popi" you in your coming exams and all future undertakings.
