due to some urgent issues that happened on thursday night, when i reached home from work and after a quick shower and dinner, i straight away rushed to the client's place to resolve the problems.. and it was an all-night-long of troubleshooting work, and when things were finally settled it was already 4:30am.. got back home for some two-hour power sleep, rushed back to there again as we have to be there by 9:00am to standby for the business..

it's not uncommon for such incidents to happen in our industry, and when things really get bad, you could expect yourself to even stay overnight to get things done.. i've had experience where i need to work till 3am everyday (and report to work as usual next day) for continuous few weeks, and the best record was a 36-hour of non-stop hardwork.. sometimes i really think, why is this necessary?? and especially at this age that can no longer be as energetic as 10 years ago, for just a living, is this a little too hectic?? but again for a living, no choice right??

[off-topic story] because of the sudden issue, i was already feeling like "why must god treat me like this??" then, but didn't even expect to get worse when i met a taxi driver who missed the turning and would turned back to blame the passengers for not helping to direct!! god d*mn it, what kind of world is this??

  55. @ Casendra:

    @ HappySurfer:
well, having worked in this tough world for more than 10 years, i guess at least i know how to handle things but seeing it in a different way, if not at least try to handle stress well.. i understand this could happen sometimes, but also it's part of the job so just have to face it.. hahaha, about the taximan, i really gave up on the old man.. he could just stop in the middle of the road when he realised he miss the turning, and ask us what to do next instead!! really crazy~~

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ imyuyu:

    @ Mei Teng:
yeah, in IT industry.. and to be precise, in a system integrator vendor role, that's why all these stress~~

  57. @ Ashley:

    @ ladyviral:
yeah, that's really crazy i gotta say.. he can just stop in the middle of the road when he realised he missed the turning.. and turned his head to ask us what to do next instead!!! gosh~~

  58. @ Grass:
well, it seems unfair, but sometimes the situation doesn't allow benevolence to happen as business still needs to go on.. so now, which is more important?? business operations and profitability, or employees welfare??

    @ iamthewitch:
thanks for the advice, but i think i am still in the crossroad and am quite lost about where i'm supposed to be next.. career switch sounds good, but then whereabout is another big question..

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Kelvin:
well, true with what you've said.. unless you love your job and have 100% passion towards it, else everything will not sound good to you right??

  60. @ Shingo T:
hmmm, but i guess every industry has its own pros and cons.. it really depend on how you actually like what you are doing, agree?? anyway, glad that you (seem to be) have chosen the right path.. :)

but your stay until 2-3am consider OT and you have extra pay right?? for me, there's nothing call OT and i will never be paid extra other than my basic salary lor.. haiz, IT really quite pity one you also know de lah.. if system runs smooth then ok, if *touch wood* got anything happen, then really will kill us one.. at times really take lots of time and energy to resolve just one little issue.. your boss also quite responsible mah, stay up until 5am to settle things down?? but then you also gotta stand in her shoes and think, if got anything happened, she will be the one who is accountable woh.. so the pressure is on her, now you know actually being a boss is also not easy you know?? although she can ask you all to do the things, but then anything not good, she's the first one who will get the arrow one leh.. i know this very well, for working in this line for more than 10 years, really can feel this lor.. you are right also lah, although we know complaints might not help to improve things, but then think optimistically, at least can release a bit of emotion and destressed a little hor?? :)

    ReplyDelete
  83. no payment also loh.. OT fees only until 7.45am...
after that, u work for free.. Zzz...

    ReplyDelete

then got sat/sun come back to support.. (sat is compulsary some more.. Zzz)
then we didn't see the necessary stay until SOOOOOO late, then saturday MUST come back also loh.. Zz

  85. OMG...this type of job definitely does not suits me because I need sleeps so much. haha.... There is once I went for a training at a resorts. I was assigned to work midnight shift. After 1 cycle, I swear not to find such job. haha....

    ReplyDelete
  86. LOL !!! on the taxi driver. He must be very frustrated when he missed that turn. haha...and you must be the poor passenger.

    ReplyDelete
  87. @ Donna:
maybe your boss got other things to do the next day leh.. or maybe she don't feel comfortable letting that issue hanging there, else she cannot sleep well also.. haiz, sometimes also gotta understand the boss predicament also lah.. but good lor, you got such a nice boss, never force you all to stay up with her.. haha!! :D

    @ mNhL:
yeah, we not young anymore so cannot work night shift at all, somemore for this case, it's work in the day and OT over the night, really cannot take it!! haha, the taxi driver was not frustrated at all, but i was!! indeed he became so panic that he just stopped the car in the middle of the highway, and kept asking us "how ah, how ah??".. see??
