during the Earth Hour on 27th March, i was at KLCC watching the much anticipated twin towers "disappeared" into the darkness.. it was a breathtaking moment and i could even hear people applaused for the support of this campaign..

this (once in a year) campaign, reminds us to conserve energy by switching off non-essential lights for an hour, and what it actually aims for is our awareness on global climate issue.. i somehow realised that what needs to be done was more significant that why it needs to be done.. yes, we see this campaign successfully gains support worldwide.. but if we really look into it, before that hour, loads of resources were spent to promote the campaign; after that hour, it's like a good show ended and audience contentedly leave the theatre..

for only a mere hour is never enough, just before and after we proudly "celebrate" this event, if we could still continue to save energy resources and care about global climate, it would be a lot more meaningful than any other forms of supporting this campaign.. :)

  5. You know I think the Earth Hour is only widely practiced in cities which publicize it... I was up north in Alor Star on that night and it didn't seem any different before, during or after the earth hour...

  15. One hour a year is definitely not enough but good enough to create awareness and for the public to cultivate the habit of not to waste 'energy'. Just like mother/father's day it would be miserable for parents to wait for a meal once a year? I would say we must be mindful everyday and every minute not to waste energy unnecessarily. tQ

  16. A mere one hour event once a year is definitely not enough. But it makes people aware of the issue.

  19. Hopefully that one hour is enough to remind everyone that we need to constantly practise conservation throughout the year.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i think the significance within that one hour is quite limited, however the awareness created from the event might b more than we know :)

    ReplyDelete

  22. Aiyo bro why no photos? I know why you are waiting for Mei Teng's haha. Think the awareness has picked up over the years.

  23. true true.. ahaha..
but the campaign is to create awareness among us, which i think is pretty amazing loh..

    ReplyDelete

hmmm, i think perhaps only the central region around KL was doing that?? or maybe there isn't a lot of significant building in the north.. :)

    Medie007:
haha, another valentine's day?? because the restaurant switch to use candles during that hour?? :p

    L²:
haiz, you had such an eventful saturday, and yet you just missed this meaningful hour!! :p

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bananazക:
yeah, you certainly have got your point there.. optimistically, sure this campaign is a successful one, as i can see a lot of people and body are supporting.. so maybe we shall start from this hour, and raise our awareness and bring in on.. hehehe!! i just share with you what i've learned in high school about the 適者生存進化論 only.. and i remember this comes out in the exam!! hehe~~ :p

    Mei Teng:
yeah, it certainly is not enough if we are talking about conserving energy.. but if we are talking about creating awareness, this campaign has been successful.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. smallkucing:
hahaha, i think household still needs lights on.. maybe just try to reduce electricity consumption, eg: don't iron clothes, don't bake cakes, don't enjoy aircond during that hour??

    HappySurfer:
i guess that one hour is good enough to create awareness, and the campaign was successful.. but beyond that one hour, it really depend on how everyone can bring on the awareness into their daily routines..

    ReplyDelete
  36. the happy go lucky one:
yes, i gotta agree with you.. though that mere one hour might not be able to bring any significant impact, but i believe it has well create awareness in the public about conserving energy..

  37. CheaHS@n:
left my camera in the car, anyway, that moment is forever recorded in my mind, hehehe!! yeah, why hasn't Mei Teng posted that photos yet?? am waiting~~ :)

    Donna:
yeah, i actually think it's very successful to be able to gain support worldwide.. albeit being only one hour, likewise you said, at least let's start from this one hour and bring on the awareness beyond that.. :)

  38. Nate River:

  41. ops... i didnt switch off the light >< well i dont consume that much though...

    ReplyDelete
  42. an hour does help.. but not a lot..
if everyone practice saving energy everyday..
    the impact would be greater..
i was at Mid Valley that day..
    but nothing much happen...
only few shops off the light..
    disappointed~~

  54. If I were in Malaysia during Earth Hour, I would've switched on the air con - it's too hot! Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  55. But I was in Bali and I remember nobody did anything about Earth Hour. None switched off the lights or anything! Haha

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bali already very environmental friendly, most places have no fans and no air cons! I was like...what the heck!! Waiting in hotel lobby also sweating, shop inside shops also sweating, eating in restaurants also sweating!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anyway, I think Earth Hour will only work if people practise it everyday. And I don't think switching off fans or air cons are considered environmental friendly because they are necessary to give us some comfort in life. It's only a waste when we keep the fans and air-cons on when we don't need them.

    CH Voon:
hmmm, so how did you show your 1000% support to this campaign?? you switch off lights for 10 hours?? haha.. aiyah, i am not geng at all lah, those are simple tricks, maybe you can do that also leh..

    ReplyDelete
  59. fufu:
hmmm, maybe it's not so popluar in Germany?? well, you have been cooking a lot, so sure using lots of energy already~~ :D

    kc:
in terms of saving energy, of course this one hour is not enough.. but in terms of creating awareness, i think this campaign is actually quite successful.. see within this hour, so many people support by switching off lights.. last year i was in MV, and i see quite a lot of shops supported the campaign woh..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Pete:
aiyah, how could you?? but did the restaurant do anything to support?? or perhaps you didn't remind them at all?? hehehe..

    Donna:
errr, no lah, where got geng?? i used to write in two language already only lah.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Monica:
hmmm, you are lame.. not supporting is already bad, and yet you were even sleeping with lights on!! OMG.. @_@

    Ashley:

    ReplyDelete
  62. Chris Chia:

    PeckWm:
hmmm, actually i think only major buildings and malls are supporting this in KL also.. in normal households i think they still leave the lights on.. well, just can't expect the awareness to be dwelling in too fast right??

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ayie:
hmmm, please don't call it a celebration.. it's actually an awareness campaign that everyone should support.. too bad, next year for you then.. :)

    KY:
haha, i knew you are having Japanese Buffet from some FB photos!! and of course lah, you guys were so happily eating, camwhoring and singing birthday songs, already put the Earth Hour behind your mind lah.. eih, mind you, that one you heard about is actually a scam lah..

    ReplyDelete
  64. bluedreamer27:
hey, thanks for dropping by.. and you use the word "phenomenon" on me?? hahahaha, how inappropriate, kekekeke!! i also noticed you have dropped lots of comments there too, but too bad, i won!! haha.. oh, so how did your school participate in the Earth Hour?? and how did you show your support?? i just went to KLCC to see the lights being turn off, didn't really do much to support the campaign actually.. :p

    foongpc:
hmmm, that means you are not supporting the Earth Hour at all.. well, though by just switching off the lights and fans and aircond for an hour might not sound any significance to you on conserving energy, but i guess this one hour is doing good in creating awareness, at least for that one hour.. when you think about how electricity is generated, then you can link this to the environment.. you are right that we should practise this everyday, so throw away all your fans and aircond - use recycle paper fans to fan yourself instead!! isn’t that environmentally friendly enough?? hahahahaha~~

    ReplyDelete
  65. huh? sleeping with lights on??? did I say that? o.0

    ReplyDelete
  66. Monica:
ooopss, sorry!! i read it wrongly.. hahaha!! ok, good, you slept through the Earth Hour with lights off, 100% supporter!! haha :p
