How Old Are You This Year??
How Old Are You??
HOW OLD ARE YOU. A Rosshan Andrews movie, produced by Listin Stephen.

i still remember there was once i laughed at a friend who cannot remember immediately how old she was, and now i think i am going through the same thing too (padan muka!!).. for the young people out there, you may find this rather nonsense but I guess it does happen!! maybe it's too large a number to remember, or our brain doesn't function as well as we age.. many times before i can tell or remember my age, I would need to hesitate for a couple of seconds, do the maths by subtracting my year of birth from the current year.. well, at least I still remember my year of birth and what year it is today, lucky huh?? muahahaha!!!

okay, i just know you sure wanna gossip how old i am..
*paused for two seconds*, okay, i will be celebrating my 19th birthday on 17th June (hint!! hint!!) this year.. duh, 19 for the "second" time of my life, of course!! xD

  1. Hahahaha, so this one is also a lessen that we cannot laugh at others, if now later will be 现眼报...I know I know, that's why I also remind myself cannot laugh at others

    1. Like aunt always said don't too harsh on the kids, because we'll getting older then they'll grown up as well!

Back to the topic, but I think I won't forget la, because female always very concern the age one mah!!

Yah lo, if can't remember which year you born then is a big deal already...eh, that can check from IC, the first two digit of the IC number...

    2. Take it easy ladies, age is just a number only as we all know that but if one is still not comfortable, then just fake your age as 10 years younger!! There is no capital and no harm done.

I am never shy about my age and I am proud that I am just 30 this year! Muahahahaha *evil eyes*

    3. Yeah lah our new ic card is just a beans spiller! They show and tell the public my age and even address!! That is dangerous. I am planning to make my own identity card with my photo and no ic registration number for the guards to copy. I will put my fictious address and driving license number will do plus occupation. That should be enough for the guards to allow me into corporate offices and visit tenants at their condo.

What should I call this identification card? Maybe I should title it as Occupation Card.

      Delete
    4. Identity card should not anyhow let people see. It's to dangerous. For condo and guard house usage, give them your driving license.

      Delete
    5. Hahaha, TM I'm wondering the guards allow you to do that meh? I don't know about other places but those I know one, they always request for IC even you give driving license they also refuse to take it wor, if you don't give then wait together lo (because my housing area one is like this, which sometimes make the queue super long)

If self-made one identification card is consider fake or not fake ya?? if everything on it is not the correct information then is fake right?? I also don't know, but I think those guards always take the IC number as a reference so is still need your IC la...hahaha~~

ChrisAu, certain condo and guard house they won't take driving license one, if you don't give then all wait together there la, see who has the more patient de!

    6. Hahaha..... padan muka me too coz last time when people say they have to count their age I also like SK said "what la. Own age also dunno meh? " Now myself also kena like that. Can i blame it on giving birth and given half my brain to my son? The benefit of being a woman is that we can claim memory loss due to giving birth.

I agree with TM that our Identity card reveals too much about ourselves. I like the old format better./ Just number without putting the date of birth in front.

As for address....err....can always put all address ma. But the downside if we accident die on the road or what the new occupant of the old address will have a shock having police visit them lo.

Actually think we no need to bring out or original IC. Just print/photocopy and laminate it. If security guard need to check then just check la. And police they can always check based on the photocopy. Police cannot arrest us if tarak bring original IC. We can inform them if they want to see the original IC , we will bring it to the nearest police station. It's our rights.

      Delete
    7. Serious ya?? I thought we always need to bring the original one with us?? But can meh? If those don't have IC one, they can fake one by showing the photocopy one lo?? @.@

  2. Eh, it’s not impossible not to remember stuffs.. Especially ahh, at our age ahh (I’m similar age as you la), we have so many things to do in a day, suddenly people ask us how old, duh, nonsense stuffs ahh, I cannot remember immediately la.. So yeah, I agree with your topic today..

    1. People say ahh, women especially after childbirth, will slack in memory.. I never believed at first, but now I do.. I tend to forget things very easily but not yet become tai tau har la.. Still ok my level.. But if you suddenly come and ask me how old am I, I think I can answer la, after 2-3 seconds, but if wana kira after birthday only add that year, then I need another 4-5 seconds.. If kira year only, I only need 2-3 seconds kua..

      Delete
    2. They say if during childbirth, you take epidural, then you will slack in memory more.. But to me, epidural or not, childbirth or not, aiya, as age creeps up, sure will forget things easily one lor.. Don’t say you la, me lagi lor.. Everyday do so may things – wakeup, prepare the kids, do house chores, then have to remember the kid’s nursery/tadika holidays date, date to go on the farm/bird park, dates for parent-teachers meeting, date for class party, wah, hou sanfu geh..

    3. Important things like somebody coming or important appointments, I use widget and “stick” it on my handphone la, the front there ahh.. Like “stick-it” notes like that lor.. If not so important, then I just jot down in my calendar lor.. But if I do that, everyone can see.. People pass by, boss in out up down can see also..

      Delete
    4. Even grocery shopping, I will write in the widget and “stick it” on my handphone there la.. So that when we reach the supermarket, terus we can go grab the stuffs lioa.. I do write things like detergent, Milo, tissue rolls, yoghurt, milk, cheese, broccoli, stuffs like that.. Then after I grab it at the supermarket, I just checked it off lor.. I really need the checklist also geh..

    5. Ok, back to your ching tai, birthday.. Like I said, if kira the year only, I can answer you in 2-3- seconds.. But if want to say how many yrs and months, means kira mai the birthday month, means the year belum sampai lagi, err, I need like 5-6 seconds kua..

    6. Aiya, everyday so bz, have to think of house chores and do kid's stuff, you want to ask me how old am I meh.. Ok la, if people ask me, I will say "You guess".. Then it gives me a few seconds to think/calculate my age.. Smart mou?

    7. Oh no, poor you. Now I remember that i read somewhere about mothers losing their memory abilities after giving birth. That is due to the loss of blood process and the brain's memory bank gets deprived. I wonder how the Chinese confinement lady could help to cook nutritious meals to help the mothers! Maybe Yomeishu could work as it contains over 80 types of natural herbal supplements inside.

I am not a mother or having memory loss yet but I need to rely on all these brightly coloured "Post Stick" to help me remember so many important matters each day. It could cost me trouble if I forgot them.

    8. Princess - I think no la. I guess it's due to the stress of child care which affects your memory. Imagine not enough sleep and emotional , how to remember stuffs ?

    9. Princess Ribbon, yes la, after give birth memory become poorer!! I got just one child but memory already so poor, later give birth to second, third one and so on lagi la teruk?!
They say eat pig's brain can helps? But I dare not la! A bit gerli.....

    10. Can see from here that mommy is very "wei dai" (伟大) sob, sob, sob!!

I think doesn't matter how age are you, write down what you need and what's important is a very good habit as we can't referred to our brains all the time, isn't that write down is much secure ya?? But, but, but about age thing, that also need to write down, I straight away think about alzheimer's disease, which before they started getting serious when they still have conscious, they'll write down everything everywhere, table, chair, tv.....(reminds me the movie ATM, so sad~~~)

Hayley got some thing one ya?? I heard they said eat fish wor...pig's brain ya?? Umm, some people always said pig is the laziest and stupidest animal, but some said they're very smart so they just lying there whole day eat and sleep, don't to do anything, so...which is correct ya??

    11. I agree with you Princess Ribbons. Coz we woman after giving birth, half our brain brain given to the baby liao. Am sure you have heard of it right? Some more there are so many things to think off, how to remember everything leh.

Not due to blood loss la TM. Even before giving birth a woman will start having memory loss incidents liao. Like me when I was pregnant. Tengah cooking then go to the fridge wanna take something, then kaldip call me to ask something. I go to the fridge then forget what i wanted to do liao

Another friend lagi best. She tengah makan lunch. Her colleague asked her to help on something. Then she terus go back to work. Afternoon then think why so hungry ah? Then suddenly recall unfinished lunch in the pantry. She is now 7 months pregnant.

Yes heard that drink Pig Brain soup will help with memory. But I never cook that before. Dunno how to handle it. Maybe I should cook some and see. But later if after drinking become worse how ah? After all there is a cantonese scolding call "why you stuxxx pig?" Like that cham liao LOL

I always thought all bakers and good chefs like you often have very good memories. My late mother and the Chef Diva Agnes Chang have very sharp & good memories too. That's why they excel in the culinary skills.

    2. Oh dear, I don't even remember my parents' and siblings age or birth year! Shame on me! I think I have selective memory. Some things I remember so well and others I easily forget. In fact even for the dementia patients, some old memories remain.

    3. Phong - errr,,,,,, me too, I cannot remember my parents' DOB as well as siblings. I guess thats not due to memory but we are not informed or maybe 'no heart' ...hahaha... Me too, as a guy, I am reckless and always depends on my wife to remember all these dates for me.

    4. For others age, I always remember their zodiac then use my age to count backward, or remember the gap age between me and my siblings, actually is very easy, just plus only, one 15, 12, 10, 7, hehe!! But of coz first of all, I need know what's my age first ya...Remember the zodiac is easier mah, but my nephews and nieces one I don't know la, too confusing...

    5. Hahaha.....at leat am better. I remember my mom's date of birth but not my dad. My mom's date of birth is just one day away from my mother's date of birth.

ommm.....thank goodness i can still remember my own date of birth. Otherwise really paiseh have to dig hole and hide liao.

I heard from someone that the food that we eat and our enviroment really contribute to our memory loss. Now more and more people with alzhemier and dementia. I wonder is it true? Or maybe in old days memang already have these disease but only not dianosed?

Maybe in a decade or two i might even alzhemier or dementia as my memory very bad lately. if you ask me things that happen recently., i cannot recall. what i ate yesterday i also have to stop and think. but if you ask me the things that happen during my school time...i can still tell you my primary school canteen sells boiled kacang kuda for 20 sens a packet. patches of memory...one of the sign of dementia?

    3. My father is a victim and dementia patient. His level of dementia is very serious and the whole family has to be patient to accommodate to his swinging patterns.I do feel sad often to see my father's confidence and well being being reduced to this stage. He is aware of his nagging problem and often shares his frustration with his children. We just had to assure him not to be bothered as we are here to help him remember everything.

This dementia is so scary and frustrating to the family members more than the patient itself for having to deal with it on a daily basis. I watched the KBS documentary where the Korean doctors highlighted this sickness in detail and it seems that they have not found a cure till today. However they pointed out that it could be prevented!

    4. It truly is. My grandma who is in her nineties is suffering from dementia. I cried when I saw her last year because she appeared so lost and could not recognise me. We have to keep up with an active and healthy lifestyle to do our best to prevent getting dementia.

    5. Oh dear, now I wanna cry too. My father was a public figure during his hey days in my hometown. Now he is nobody and a forgotten person as life goes on. Some days he could not remember my wife and siblings too. Fortunately, he never had problem to recognize me when he is actually living in my brother's house!

My father was very active and exercised a lot. I could only blame the dementia was caused by his frequent blood donations and lack of supplements. I plan to blog this topic after doing some research.

Case 2: I greeted Small Kucing a Happy Friday when it was a Thursday!! I was sad when she corrected me as I thought I was going to enjoy a Friday night movie that day.

  8. I think we forget how old we are because as we get older (from early twenties) to where we are now (those old goats like me lah), there are so many things happening in our lives - career, finances, family etc and age becomes something so insignificant that it is pushed into the far reaches of our brain, It's different when we were kids. I mean as a kid, age is a big deal right? Relatives like to ask you "How old are you?" And I remember it is a proud feeling to tell them "I am ten years old!". Birthdays were something to look forwards to because of parties and presents. Becoming older was associated with becoming independent and having the ability to do and enjoy more things. But not anymore lah hah..hah...

    2. Muahahahaha!!! You tickled my ribs! This reminds me about The Star's June Wong who went to visit the Muzium Negara with her kids recently and was stunned for so long when the ticket seller charged her cheaper as she was qualified for the Warga Emas tickets. She had mixed feelings as that was the first time she ever realised she could enjoy Warga Emas discounted rates! Her children teased her instead!

I think all the senior citizen's discounts are confined to certain benefits and outlets only. They do not give this offer for hotel and flight bookings! Will that happen?
Whatever the age and benefits may be, my only wish is to have healthy brains with good memory and strong limbs until my last days! I often believe that our fate is in our own hands!

No point being 19 years old but live like an old men. I saw many teens like that. They are not that adventurous and scared of this and that. Well, I don't mean asking them to do dangerous stuffs but at least, do something rather stayed at home playing games. Jut try something new always and get themselves motivated like us old guys!

    2. You are spot on! There is one famous Touch N Go blogger whose personality fits your descriptions about his character, thoughts and speech. He has some personality disorder which is beyond help! I hope he wakes up to reality and his real age someday.

You should quit your job and be a mentor for these troubled & lost teens! You should teach and guide them to live a meaningful life. Teach them to use their brain skills to benefit the mankind and not play games all day.

      Delete
    3. I don't think can blame the teenagers for scared of this and that. They got it from their elders who caution them on everything.

Now is not as safe as in the old days. At least the old days robbers rob you point blank without hurting you but look at recent spat of ATM robberies. Give them money already they still wanna slash you so that you cannot fight back or hinder their flights.

Not all teens stay home and play games la. Many still do community works and all that. Simple example la. Just look at those church group from bible classes. There are many youngster there and they come to church and also go for church camp and all. Like those in J's kindy . They come weekly to offer help for Funland programme.

As for gaming. Some games are good for the brain. Many assume saw kids or teens with iPad they straight assume they are playing war games or stuffs like that. Some used iPad to read ebooks. Some play brain games like sudoku , maths games and stuffs like that.

She is 70+ years old and always shocked all the people around her with her stamina and memory skills. 2 years ago she went skiing up the mountains in Aspen, Colorado during the mid Winter! Her heart is fearless like a Lioness!

I often looked at her for old age inspirations!! She is not married and has lots of $$$.

    1. I agree with your statement that age is just a number and that how we feels is what matters inside. I married a very young wife who keeps me younger each year. As a result she dragged me up to climb 4 high mountains and cycled many hills! My gang of school mates gasped at me in disbelief.

So my wife matured very fast to face the realities of human beings out there by marrying an older man! It is a Win-Win situation.

Chris, you should try going for the analysis check up againa nd you might be 25 years old now!! My accountant told me the tests also showed his low body fat level which he blamed on his loss of hair. Is that true? He told me the hair follicles need to feed on body fats like fertilizer and he was pointing at my belly & crown. Kaneeneh!

    3. LOL, you must be so happy la ChrisAu.

I remember there's some similar apps in FB which test your personality then gives you results, like how old are you mentally. I find those quite funny and irrational, just a game only, where can determine how old we are? Haha! But yala, just for fun only, cannot take it seriously!

    4. hahaha... of course, don't take it seriously. I used to be a very stressful guy but now, I burn all the stress in the gym and runs. No point keeping all these bad emotions and before you know it... the solutions are in front of you. Just do something for your problems and you may find the solutions.

  26. Good Morning Bloggers! What a sensitive topic today and I bet some ladies would shy away.
I think in our Asian society, the mention of ages amongst the high society ladies are real taboos! I don't see such paranoia happening in the West as they tend to live in their presence better and nothing to be shy!!
Even my male ex colleague who has since become a proud lady after some sex change operations would kill us if we ever utter "her" real age!!! "She" wants to be introduced as a young sweet lady in her early 20s when the actual age is almost kissing 45!!! Aduhai Mama!

Oh well, nobody wants to grow old with wrinkles and eye bags! There is no escaping for us no matter how much botox we use. I am not afraid to reveal everything as I am quite transparent in my blogs. I don't hide myself and put a taugeh plant as my profile icon! Muahahahaha

    1. How old are you Thambee? Anay really forgot about your age! I always looked at you like a small innocent thambee with the most cheeky mouth in this planet. Nobody can bet the way your brains work! I salute your thoughts and mouths!

My old father has serious dementia problems and always uttered his wrong age. Everyday he would ask us to confirm his age! When I told him the truth, he would shriek out and protest that I was bluffing.

    2. Nowadays, wrinkles can be easily hidden. Not easy to predict a women age now. muahahaha...

    3. Too much botox and plastic surgery can make a person look weird. Face may be smooth but the face looks like a mask. So just age gracefully. Too much make up also not so good because once the make up comes off, can pengsan!

      Delete
    4. Phong Hong, I agree with you, we should learn from France women, we have to age gracefully. No point hiding our wrinkles with make up, confidence, smile and wear appropriate attire will be enough to make a woman looks so pleasant. I am now looking at women very differently, I am not looking at their make up or hair style, I look at how they walk, how they talk, how they act naturally and etc. As long as they look relax and comfortable, I find them so beautiful.

      Delete
    5. why mention the age is a taboo for asian woman leh? Hmmm...maybe true for high societies women lah.

Age is not really a matter as long as your heart is young. As long as the brain not 'old' and is open minded then any age is a great age.

  27. Age is just a number. Today I just went for bone health check, I am the best result among my colleagues, most of them are younger than me but with lower result than me. I am so proud of myself for having fit body at this age of me. Conclusion, exercise does help a lot. I only exercise more than my colleagues, my bone health tells the truth.

Oh! I better back to the topic. I do forget my age too some times, like SK described here, I need to use my year of birth and current year to do some calculation in order to get my actual age. Heheheh! Sign of old age that I can't deny.

    1. When I was younger, I lived to please others. I mind how others perceived me as a person. Now, I just need to make myself happy, I don't mind how others look at me as a person. I do not allow myself to feel upset because of someone or something. I have better EQ, wiser thoughts and broader mind. I can easily forgive others for what they have done or said. I care for nothing except my own thinking. Therefore I love myself even more now, I find myself is happier person .

No wonder people said "a year older is a year wiser". This is so true.

I never keep my age as a secret. I don't mind telling people how old I am too. Even now, when people ask me "how old are you?" I will tell honestly. Hehehe! But now I learn from SK, I am only 21. Two times of 21. Hahahaha!

Her work, family and exercises are all so well balanced. Her 2 precious Princesses are the best wonderful example of the mama's love and grooming! She should write a book titled "Taiping's Parenting & Baking Skills".

Many parents out there have their own achievements and family upbringing skills but just a few would be so transparent and frank to share with the world. By sharing and awakening others would bring merits to the writers!

  30. I think we needed to constantly challenged our mind to get ourselves active and busy all the time. Sometimes, I noticed most retirees died few years later after they retired from work. Doing nothing but just staring at the four walls definitely is not healthy for the mind, as it will make them physically younger by keeping themselves active even like playing a game of chess of doing charity work,

  31. First, I saw the banner thingy, too bad my laptop Adobe got problem, cannot play so I don't know what's that :(
Din't bother to fix it, cause fixed once already now same issue again, geram la!

    Okok back to the topic.
Erm so far I don't have this problem, I always know/remember how 'young' I am one, hehe! But the way I mention is follow my birthday month one la, not the year. Like I was born in October, so if you ask me how old I am now, I will say 30 plus, instead of 31 xD
Of course many times I won't mention the 'plus' la, just say 30 only. Then after birthday I will change to 31 automatically, wahahaha!
Not to say I am calculative or what la, just saja saja for fun only la, moreover, no people really care also ma! Right?

But, when people ask how old is my family members (especially my parents), I will need to think, I mean I remember their years of birth but don't know why cannot remember how old exactly are them. So sometimes like when we need to fill up details, I will take seconds to calculate how old are they actually, hehe!

So, second 19th birthday ya? Hehe, easy Maths la :p
Your age almost macam my second brother wo!

Anyway, age is just a number la, for me, I don't mind to reveal how 'young' I am, I guess you too la right? Usually guys won't bother one, but I know some woman yes, very sensitive topic, and also their weight, hehehe! ;p

But I got exception also la, sometimes if a total stranger ask me how old I am, I will not directly tell him/her, it depends la. If for important matters (like fill in forms or etc) then of course I'll tell la, if saja saja 八卦 then I will try to avoid, I mean why bother to know my age where I don't know you at all? It happens to me before leh, so ngam that day I wasn't in a good mood, I felt very 不爽 lo. I went for a hair wash at a salon, then I know the shampoo girl was trying to chat a bit la so that not so boring but please la, find something else to ask la! She directly ask me how old am I =_= I was like, why you wanna know? She just smiled. Then I showed her my black face, continue to read the magazine, and she kept quiet all the session, haha xD

  32. As always, age is just a number but it's important too as it shows the maturity in us. I remember my kids' and hubby's birthdays very well. I used to celebrate for them but now as they grow older, they wouldn't like to celebrate birthdays anymore as it shows how old they are.

Nowadays, we hardly put the exact candles anymore. Rather just a candle so no one knows how old we are. A good idea as we wouldn't want to tell the whole world our age as we grow older.

    1. Yes... maturity is another interesting word. There are folks who are really old but still act like a immature teen including the way they talked. Then, there are young people whose thinking are like they have been through many experiences like that.
Anyway, maturity is a state of mind and definitely more important than physical age.

  35. Some are very hush hush about their age especially ladies... and each time I ask anyone about their age, the next question they posted back will be... "Guess... guess how old I am.. So how old are you?
