From this perspective, it makes me think about HK!! They always said HK has very fast routine, always rush here and there, forgot about the city and the 人情! 人情冷落,that's the way to describe as well to our city right now!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we thought that we're walking in the beginning, walking at the front roll of everyone, actually we had missed out a lot of things!! Like people busy looking for more money to earn but at the same time they forgot what their family, friends or even their interest!!
DeleteIs like blogging thing, I always want to spend the rest of my time in blogging and blog walking after work or whenever I free!! Then in the end I realized my life just working and blogging!! I know some people might said if you really have the passionate to do so, you won't feel bored about it, but the thing is...not about passionate or not, is that we might the time of spending with our families, like on the dinner table, while waiting for the dishes to be serve on the table, everyone just take out the phone and start tapping, facebook, what's app, game, work, online shopping or somewhat, so is like the whole family are sitting there "alone" with people they know but not talking!!
So gradually it became many people feel that they're more close to their "friends" (social network one) but not any of their family member!! As can see how much they spend on their "friends" but not family!!
Certain people can sit in front pc/screen/tablet for hours but not even spend some times with their family (like all just want to 疯狂跟上潮流,最新,最top的) but never stopped down to check peoples, stuffs around them, like always heard from my mom complains my sister, she always care her work, care reading comics, but not really care enough of her children, and also won't really spend anytime on helping her!! Actually is not about want her helping or not, you know sometimes they just want you to be "there" by not just like they're working there all by themselves, all by alone!!!
I don't mind like people got over passionate about want to chasing their dreams or business or somewhat, but sometimes the very big gap of people between people was caused by this, they put career first, social network friends first......but not family who always be there for them and also who they 忽略 the most!! Don't really know when and how to mange their time and manage the human touch thing!! And all they left is just only the "passionate" and forgot how to communicate well with their family!!
yes I agree with you Sheta, guess it's not only HK but probably in Asia generally?? we are walking too fast and many times we didn't care to slow down to appreciate what we have got, instead we just keep looking for what we do not and wish to have..
DeleteSo far I know that Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea are 人情冷落. Usually big city is 人情冷落.
DeleteNo choice, all blame to the busy lifestyle and hectic culture.
I saw guests at the same table inside a HKG restaurant using phones to Viber and Watsap each other like fools, So funny!
DeleteYah, I said HK because the first came into my mind is HK, as I watch the HK news everyday about their protest thing!! And from what I recall the most they always rushing, taking trains, bus and somewhat!!
DeleteSuddenly think of a quote "when you're busy chasing on something you don't have but at the same time you might losing what you're having...!"
i guess this is can actually be generalized as the attitude of city dwellers?? the more hustle a city is, the more "cold" the people are??
DeleteMaybe can say like that, is we change the society or the society is changing us...gradually the society became like even you're do something good, some people might have the idea saying you've the motive to do so, not like you really want to help them...yah!! So nowadays that's how people say you do bad thing people can make scold but even you do good thing people thinks that you've having motive to do so and kept on stepping on you...
DeleteMorning everyone.. I like the sentence – slow down, and observe.. Well, mine is: Slow down and breathe.. Don’t pant, don’t panic, don’t rush..
ReplyDeleteYeah, you are right and I really agree that we should slow down and observe our surroundings.. You might need their help one day, who knows? I’m talking about, say, neighbours..To be honest, I don’t really know all my neighbours in my entire floor.. But left right, and front, I know la.. It’s good to know them, and say hi (and bye) to them, coz you might not know when you might need their help back in future kua.. Just like I’m babysitting little girl for another neighbor occasionally.. It’s not something I like to to, to be honest, but I don’t mind helping once a while.. The feeling is good when we help others la (but not all the time, in my babysitting case ok), teehee..
Giving is better than receiving.. The feeling is so good.. Like Kz’s kindy, they will be having year-end class party next week.. They ask for food sponsors, so I will be making something simple – potato & egg salad..
DeleteBut other than that, I will be giving extra too.. I’ve decided to pack goodie bags for the teachers too.. Thinking to post about it later..
Actually I could have just give it to the two class teacher of Kz, but I decided to give more, I give to the all the teachers in the kindy.. Coz although there are only two class teachers for Kz, daycare is handled by rotation.. Means Teacher A and B for today, then Teacher C and D tomorrow, and so on..
So meaning, every teacher in the kindy is involved.. So I decided to give to all the teacher..
So, yeah, back to your topic, slow down, look around and do some good deeds, the day would be a better day.. Smile and the world smiles with you..
DeleteErrr, so did I run out of topic again? You are talking about slow down and look at our surroundings, and I'm talking about class party..
Deleteslow down can but not too slow ah or later kena honk by the car behind you LOL.
Deletefor me now need to know detailed on neighbour la. Hi and bye and occassionally chit chat a bit enough la. Know too much later will gaduh then stay there place will "black face".saw many such things happen before.
right, slow down and don't look like the world has done something bad to us.. I guesd we don't really need to know our neighbours, but at least when we see each other, just put on a smile and a simple greet like "morning", "sudah makan" is good enough.. and of course better still if we could help each other.. :)
DeleteI think most people ate too caught up with the virtual world and forgot to be mindful. I think I am one too.
DeleteOkay I should slow down now, observe and breathe slowly too like a tortoise.
i think Twilight Man is not that bad, i would think he is one who actually slows down to observe his surroundings (i don't mean him being kaypoh here)~~
Deleteoops~
ReplyDeleteno oppss oppsss......no time for you to enjoy the view la TZ. What are you doing online? Thought today you supposed to be running? Or is it today flying to Penang for the marathon....so make sure when you running Penang marathon bring along your camera and snap photo at same time enjoy the view but without slowing down ah
Deleteprobably TZ is also one who is busy taking photos, share it on social networks and then connecting with "virtual" friends?? ooppppsss~~
DeleteSpot On! Spot on! Spot on! This TZ is always watsapping non stop at the corner of the gym like a sweet potato! Wakakaka
Deleteso this gym rat actually hit the gym to Whatsapp at a corner instead of working out?? :D
Deletefirstly...good morning SK and all..
ReplyDeletesecondly....ahem siapa punya mangotree? Yours? Cepat petik and courier to me the mango...since you tarak look and tak perasan till today means you also tarak makan the mangoes la...dont waste wor...cepat cept go petik tonight after work and poslaju over...muhahaha...alamak...am sounding like ahem ahem....soli ah...:p
hehe, sorry ah, I tarak petik only but my sister does.. somemore she will peel and cut into bite-size pieces for our aftermeal desserts leh.. :D
DeleteSK, your mango tree make me thinking "Under the mango tree". It is my line dance song, very old song la! I doubt you heard that before. You can google from youtube.
DeleteI thought SK and Kamala should dance and chase each other around that mango tree! What a perfect spot to film a Tamil movie.
Deletethis mango tree is especially planted for Anay and Letchumy to dance around.. even if all trees are being destroyed by the Bolehland Government, no fret, Anay you will still have this tree to dance around!! :D
DeleteSK, wah are you trying to tempt us? Mango as aftermeal desserts, hear liao also drooling! Best if the mango is a bit sourish and sweet, yums!
DeleteTM, haha yea, Tamil movie always like that one, dance and hide behind a tree, kekeke!
squinting and looking at the mango tree...top left mango looks like water lily species leh...middle punya pulak shape like rainbow species......okay la i know i know not contest of spotting the mangoes...but i spied got 6 mangoes leh. Yummmy.
ReplyDeleteeh behind that is rambutan tree ah...the daun shape like rambutan trees leh. Whoever it is really rajin tanam...so nice to have space to tanam these big fruit trees. My house tarak much space for that. only can plant small sized plants.
but my neighbour got plant la buah delima, papaya, banana. Her house really fully utilised the space
wah, this meow not only has green fingers, but also "green eyes" too!! you can see so many things from this small photo!! not only the species of the mango from the fruits, but the rambutan tree from the leaves!! you are so powderful!! yes, I "think" that is a rambutan tree, haha!!
Deleteahem....as for your question how many slow down and look at surrounding ah? hard to say also...
ReplyDeletesometimes work from sunrise to sun down no time to even take a deep breath leh. I know last time my work place really like wanna pengsan leh. work kept piling up. really no time to do anything else.
lunch pun cincai tapau and bring work hide in conference room to do during lunch time while eating leh.
i know la some will say bullShxt ...must have ime management..no time must make time...time management...but certain line of work or certain period in once life i think we will encounter this before la. there are time when one wish to have the power like the girl in :I Dream of Genie" or the girl in "Bewitched" ...where in a blink of an eye or a shake of the head, time stop and can take a breather. But too bad not many can.
Deletemaybe that is why so many professional look forward to retirement or those job hopper always hopping from one job to another..not just because of money but also for a career that gives them time to breath and slow down .
true la, of course it's always easier said than done.. i for instance, is definitely one of those that I am talking about in the post!! muahahaha.. I go out early morning and reach home at night, I don't even see much of my family not to mention neighbours!! and yeah, I am one who is always "poking" on my phone - just like now that I am replying to the comments, but of course I'm commuting in the train and no one else I know is with me la.. :p
DeleteYes, true enough now not many knows his or her neighbours...me included.
ReplyDeleteBut think of the bright side....can also considered less gossip la. Or else one sneeze..the whole neighbourhood knows.
very true, not necessarily need to know but at least can recognize and put on a smile on the face if bump into each other :)
DeleteHmm yea, that's the good thing not knowing too much about each other.
DeleteFor me i biasa with the city already. Yes, not knowing my neighbours so well. Still better than all those gossip and arguements that will ensue if it is too close. Morning see face got say hi and Bye. got plants , then exchange. as for their internal family works...i don;t wanna know or care. Knowing too many things can be akwards
ReplyDeleteI gotta agree with you.. this is rather common in bigger cities.. neighbours are not as close as those in smaller towns.. and very true!! the more they know, the more gossips, we are afterall human huh?? :)
DeleteI won't purposely go and get to know my neighbours, but when there is "you help me i help you" situation, we will approach each other, so we are still cordial. Nowadays city dwellers are more careful when interacting with others, sometimes out of necessity, you will never know who is good guy and who is bad guy.
ReplyDeleteyes, guess this is the "neighborhood model" of the bigger cities.. true that it's not necessary to know each other, but just to keep the relationship cordial.. :)
DeleteTalking about neighbours, my neighbour has a dog, the dog will start barking whenever the dog see a person, and whenever i see the dog, will sure bark non-stop, hehe...
ReplyDeleteyou also bark at the dog and make it confused la, muahaha!!
DeleteLMAO!!!! Muahahahahaha! She only need to bark and then SMILE suddenly to selfie with the dog! The dog sure will die of heart attack!!!!
Deleteno joke.. if you bump into a dog which looks like it is going to attack, bark back and be more fierce, show it your sharp and dreadful look and it will tame down!!
DeleteReally SK? I am afraid of dogs. I just don't dare to admit. I was barked by stray dogs, and I was very scared. The more I ran, the more the dog would chase behind me. Luckily I could run 12km/h speed when seeing dogs.Heehehe! But then next time I will bark back at the dogs and show my evil look to the dog.
Deletehaha nothing's wrong for being scared of dogs lah, I'm also very scared of snakes!! hmm, that's why lah, the more you are afraid of them, the more daring they are to bully you leh, dogs also 欺善怕惡 one.. but then I think you are not afraid of those cutie cutie little dogs right?? :)
DeleteSK, huh true or not? Bark back and the dog will tame down?? For me I will just ignore and don't look into its eyes.
DeleteYannie, yea I was about to say that, lucky you trained yourself well in running already, if anything chase you (touchwood touchwood) you sure can win and save yourself! Kekeke!
Dogs I am not scared of them, but snakes, ya, they looks so gerli also, eww!
Now only you notice the mango tree is it because of the fruits? Previously no fruits? You are right that we tend to be oblivious of things around us. Sometimes even something in front of us also we don't see. I am guilty of that too. Sometimes I will pass by a familiar road and see something that I thought was new. But I am told, it's been there long time liao LOL!
ReplyDeleteyeah, just suddenly happened to gaze out and notice the mangoes.. if not because of the fruits, I will not know it is a mango tree!! muahaha, I'm that bad in this.. and yes, we don't really know who our neighbours are nowadays huh?? especially in bigger cities.. :)
Deletewahhhhh... bestnyer can petik the mango just from your window!
ReplyDeletecannot reach la cos there are window grills dei~~ :(
DeleteMust be nice to be gazing out from the window, especially when one is tired from working/studying in the room.
ReplyDeleteSo much greenery too!
hehe nice to see green, but I don't actually stay in my room often also.. :D
DeleteWhat SK says is true.
ReplyDeleteWe are rushing everywhere and yet sometimes we barely notice the things that are in front of us...
Neighbours aren't only for gossiping, they may be the ones we look for in case of emergency.
yes, I agree we may not necessarily know our neighbours.. but at least can recognize the face and put on a smile, and when it comes to needing a help, at least in a cordial relationship huh??
DeleteWah ....lucky you. ...got mangoes to eat already. And it took 20 years to bear fruits or you simply can't be bother like you said and only noticed now ?
ReplyDeleteI guess in 20 years it must have produced a lot of fruits, just that I didn't bother to take a look or even notice them, how pathetic!! :D
DeleteYou are absolutely right ! Most of us , especially the city dwellers , are simply too occupied with every day chores and problems till we don't really care about what's in front of us. We should all slow down to smell the flowers and be more sensitive to our environment like Our home ...Our community ...Our town ....etc.
ReplyDeleteyes, and I gotta admit I am just none other than one of them!! haha.. everyone seems rushing and not appreciate what we have, but keep on searching for what we don't have..
DeleteTrue, we should slow down to observe the surroundings, do ourselves a favor... But honestly, how many of us can really do that these days? Life is so hectic, like a competition everyday....
DeleteSometimes I don't even realised my TV is slowly getting spoilt with light dark patches at the corners till my wifey pointed out to me. I was too occupied with some other stuffs including surfing.
ReplyDeleteaiyoh you cannot surf net until1-2am everyday lah.. you are the only MAN in the family, you have got the responsibility to look after it dei~~ :p
DeleteHaha ChrisAu also busy Instagram-ing and having Jap food here and there! :p
DeleteI think it's good if we can move our self centreness to be more caring for others like our family. Spend some time with them especially the kids, spouse and parents to find out their problems and wishes. There was once when I felt so good shopping for stuffs they like which I blogged before , though we don't have to buy them gifts to show that we cared.
ReplyDeleteI guess your kids and wifey also have the same thought too!! especially that you are working in SG and don't spend your everyday with them, surely the weekend when everyone can be together is very precious time (if you don't keep on surfing net, haha!!)..
DeleteI notice when I was in a small kampung , the folks are much friendly and willing to talk to you compare to city folks. Till now , I only smile at my neighbours or just a simple hello instead of chatting. I remember when I was a kid , my parents chit chat with their neighbours almost every day.
ReplyDeleteyes I do think the same like you, probably that's the big city "culture".. but then at least putting on a smile and simple greetings is good enough, just keep a cordial relationship just in case, we never know when, we need help..
DeleteTrue, people staying in kampung is more friendly and 'united' one. But in big city one, very difficult to see the same pattern, probably like what SK said, it's the culture.
DeleteYea. People should take a break. Take one step back. And things will turn out a lot different. Asian lifestyle too hectic.
ReplyDeleteI used to have the Rambutan Tree at my home garden. Very nice. Every half a year plus will have lots of rambutans. Will share with neighbours since the branches extended next door. Free delicious fruits, home made.
Some kids like to climb over the fence and steal them too. Well they should just ring the door bell!
very true, it's quite generally the Asian culture huh?? instead of slowing down to appreciate things we have, many times we are just rushing to keep searching for things we do not have..
DeleteYes, I always feel I am in a rush in everything... each morning, rushed to get up, do household chores, rushed to get myself ready and drive to work within 10 minutes.. reaching office, wanna finish the work fast so that I can relax but work is always never ending... at exactly 5pm, rushed down to beat the jam... reached home, rushed to get my furry member dinner ready... takes her for walks... then rushed to do my dinner so that I can have more time watching TV and blogging as what I am doing now... Well... that is my rushing day!
ReplyDeleteThat is why I want to retire.. I want to slow down... and then take a look at the surrounding.... relax and be lazy.... that is what I have in mind... phewwww... writing this is also in a rush! :)
at least you feel the same hectic life and is now planning to slow down when you retire later.. never too late and by slowing down you can hunt for more nice food at those hidden places you have missed all these years!! haha..
Deletehahahaa...Yeah, I really look forward to slowing down... everything is going too fast pace for me.. see, I am going to be mid fifties already!!!
Deleteare you kidding?? you look like you are in your mid-twenties only!!!! hahaha.. anyway, still need to plan for how slow you will go, haha!! :p
DeleteClaire, sounds like a really busy and rushed schedule! But then I see you got time to visit here and there, consider good la! Jalan jalan cari makan with family and friends.
Deleteyes, we need to slow down and take a look at our surroundings. I love to look at my surroundings as I love nature. I would open my window and look at my neighbour's garden or even at those stray cats.
ReplyDeleteah great.. at least that would be a nice and relaxing breather for your very busy routine everyday huh?? :)
DeleteEh, but we connect with each other through the phone nowadays. Without the phone, we won't be reading each others' blogs and leaving comments for each other. Being on the phone does not mean that we are living a fast life. We could be living a slow life using the phone too.
ReplyDeleteyes, you have a point there.. that is the good side of advanced communications technology you mentioned above, and the ugly side of it, is just what we have been discussing over here.. :)
DeleteSure got pros and cons of smart phones/technology.. Depends on individual on how to use it and just have to balance up lo~
DeleteGood of you to remind those workaholics to wake up and smell the roses and also the workaholics parents to wake up and see that their children have grown so much in their absence.
ReplyDeleteI think non celebrity bloggers are people who are really slow and really observe their surroundings or else how to get content to blog about and also they are not busy chasing money and working as they are not blogging for money so they are just spending lots of time online blogging and commenting on others' blog without earning a dime.
Just like Sheta, despite being on the fast lane, she takes time to attend many exhibitions and kind enough to share them on her blog with us. You also lah, can think of many subjects to trigger us to think and leave comments here. So all this is not living in the fast lane. People who lives in the fast lane do not blog at all unless they are celebrity bloggers who blog for money.
very true, when we are very focus on something, we just tend to ignore what's happening around us.. just think, how many of us are willing to slow down, put aside what we are doing and talk face to face and eye to eye, when somebody interrupts a bit especially when we are rushing to get something done?? :)
Deletei wish i can slow down my footstep especially in this city but society don't allow~
ReplyDeletemany things don't give us an option to choose, so we have to learn to adapt and find a balance instead.. :)
DeleteSlow down...? I wanted to slow down like little tortoise but I can't right now. Catching up with a tight schedule.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be seeing me much in blogsphere, but I'll try to drop by as frequent as possible :D
DeleteReading SK0617 can release stress, hehehe...
haha.. so does that make you dislike the implementation of GST even more?? :D
DeleteAt least Yvonne knows to slow down a little while to read SK0617 to release the tension of doing this stupid GST project. Yannie is also a victim of GST project. Sobs.......
DeleteSK is even lucky, can slow down to stare at big and juicy mangoes outside the window.
who else are in your GST team?? can recommend them to come and spam comments so that they can reduce the stress!! muahahaha~~
DeleteYvonne is indeed a busy woman! Hope to 'see' you often in the blogsphere!
DeleteOh, you have fruits in your backyard. How cool! Somehow I just love the sight of fruits on trees. During the season a couple of months ago, a durian tree in my neighbourhood had my full attention at least twice a day. The tree was so full of the fruit and I think it was the maiden flourish. Can't wait for the next season to have the chance to ooh and aah at the fruits again.
ReplyDeleteRight, we are so caught up with life that we sometimes miss the beauty around us.
yeah I think it's nice to grow some fruits in your house.. the trees can give shades and the fruits give your stomach a treat too!! so don't miss this beauty of planting fruit trees at your house :p
DeleteTotally agree, the world has turned cold, without the human and personal touch, even when we communicate with our family members, we use whatsapp, and when we talk to them about the same topic again, they asked: "I thought you whatsapp me already?" Saddening
ReplyDeleteyeah.. even sitting next to each other, some likes to use Whatsapp or Facebook to communicate.. that is utterly saddening, if I don't comment it as sickening.. haha!! :p
DeleteThat's sad but like I mentioned, it's the reality, I think not just in Malaysia but everywhere in the world... Who to blame? Technology? The person who invent smart phones? Hmm....
DeleteSo true, SK. It is very shameful to admit. I am also one of them like what you describe here.
ReplyDeleteI left home from 7 and come back at 6. Then I rush out again to gym and back home around 9.
I meet neighbors only once in a while when I collect my laundry back or I hang my laundry. Only a few words or "Hi and Bye" only.
Our eyes on Facebook is more often on other things. Sigh! I am one of them.
Your post is a good reminder, SK.
but Yannie has got such a sweet JAM to wait for her at home, to take care of all housework and AM at home, so that you can enjoy yourself to the brim in the gym.. probably J also build up good relationships with the neighbours on Yannie's behalf :)
DeleteI stay at home most of the time but I hardly know my neighbors also, paiseh paiseh. I guess that's because of the 'distance'.
DeleteIn laws house is a bungalow and I am at upstairs most of the time. Our compound wall is high we cannot see and greet the neighbors also. But mum-in-law still got talk to neighbors at left and right la, sometimes, when she is washing clothes at the balcony, cause from her balcony can see the neighbors, but have to talk very loud la! Hehe.
Good that mum-in-law still got correspond with them, so that they won't think we are so snobbish ma, the one on our left is a Malay family, she still invite us to her house during Raya, then the one on our right is Chinese family, also invite us if there's a special occasion. So I guess our relationship with the neighbors are still not bad huh? ;)
Wow! You lived there for 20 years! Why your mango took so long to bear fruits? You should piss our from your window every morning as organic fertilizer. Wakakaka
ReplyDeleteHey! I would love to have your bedroom to pluck fresh fruits from the window and make the Thai Mango Salad! Yum! Yum!
DeleteIt is so true that I hardly know my neighbours. They are mostly snobbish people in my area.
Deletethe tree bears many fruits over the past 20 years, just that i rarely notice that.. in fact many of its fruits had become my shit dei, muahahahaha!!
DeleteMangoes I will definitely can see them LOL
ReplyDeleteyou have good eyesight, because of eating mangoes?? :p
DeleteSK, eating mangoes can have good eyesight? Hehehe.. My hubby is a mango lover but eyesight still very poor wo! xDD
DeleteAnyway speaking of mango, I love mango also! There's a famous mango dessert shop at Bangkok called Mango Tango, wah I miss it! Their mangoes are so fresh!
But me cannot eat too much mango, dare not, cause people say it's 'windy'.....
wah...so lucky u to have mangoes from the tree! i used to have mango tree at the house compound, but bear no fruits...mst be the soil problem...
ReplyDeleteaiyoh, then must be a few reasons why your mango tree cannot bear fruits..
Delete其實大家同枱食飯,各自按手機喺相當唔禮貌。同對方講嘢又心不在焉,倒不如唔好出嚟,喺電話上溝通咪得囉。
ReplyDeleteHmm, you still remember this mango tree was planted 20 years ago? That impressed me! I don't know when were those trees around my house or the in laws planted also :p
ReplyDeleteActually the tree belongs to your family or your neighbours? Got try the mango? Sweet or not? Speaking of mango tree, there's an uncle near my mum's house who owns a mango tree, a very short one only, but the tree seems to have grow a lot of mango during its season, he always welcome people to go and pluck the mangoes, one day my dad tried and he said 'no wonder he allows anyone to go and pluck, cause the mangoes are not sweet at all', LOL! So bad la! :p
(Ok I hope I am not out of topic too much xD)
True la, life is indeed hectic these days, especially those of you working in big city like KL, go out early in the morning for work, then come back late at night, probably not because of workloads but due to traffic jam. The traffic already wasted a lot of your time. When you got home its already late, neighbours also stay indoor, no chance of talking/greeting to each other; shops around the neighbourhood also close already, no chance to take a look around. Weekend, most probably many will spend on sleeping, or family bonding time.
I guess not just no time to look around, but no time to exercise too!
See that's why many of you got no time to come entertain me during my recent KL trip, hoho!! :p
And you mentioned about busy looking at phones, haha cruel but true, smart phones/tablets are something so common and important these days, even small children also addicted to it. I guess it's not uncommon to see the whole family busy sliding the phones when we go out makan. Busy chatting, FB-ing, or checking-in apps.
Can't do anything about it, it's viral. I guess it happens everywhere around the world.
