Slow Down and Observe Your Surroundings
From My Window The Mango Tree Inspires
this mango tree just outside my window was planted 20 years ago when i moved to this place.. all these years, i did not really bother to take a look until one recent sunday morning, i looked out of the window and found by surprise some riping mangoes growing on the tree (okay, i won’t ask you to guess how many were there).. i suddenly thought, how many of us actually care to slow down to look around and appreciate things in our surroundings?? do you know your neighbours, or do your neighbours know you?? we rush to work every morning, stuck in the traffic, bury ourselves in and by the time we reach home probably at night, we continue with work or house chores.. even if we are not in a rush, we are busy looking at our phones - while eating, while commuting, while walking or even while meeting up with friends and relatives.. the world has turned cold?? i mean the human touch, not climate, yet we have already accustomed to it.. have a great weekend ahead everyone~~ :)

  1. From this perspective, it makes me think about HK!! They always said HK has very fast routine, always rush here and there, forgot about the city and the 人情! 人情冷落,that's the way to describe as well to our city right now!!

    1. Sometimes we thought that we're walking in the beginning, walking at the front roll of everyone, actually we had missed out a lot of things!! Like people busy looking for more money to earn but at the same time they forgot what their family, friends or even their interest!!

Is like blogging thing, I always want to spend the rest of my time in blogging and blog walking after work or whenever I free!! Then in the end I realized my life just working and blogging!! I know some people might said if you really have the passionate to do so, you won't feel bored about it, but the thing is...not about passionate or not, is that we might the time of spending with our families, like on the dinner table, while waiting for the dishes to be serve on the table, everyone just take out the phone and start tapping, facebook, what's app, game, work, online shopping or somewhat, so is like the whole family are sitting there "alone" with people they know but not talking!!

So gradually it became many people feel that they're more close to their "friends" (social network one) but not any of their family member!! As can see how much they spend on their "friends" but not family!!

Certain people can sit in front pc/screen/tablet for hours but not even spend some times with their family (like all just want to 疯狂跟上潮流,最新,最top的) but never stopped down to check peoples, stuffs around them, like always heard from my mom complains my sister, she always care her work, care reading comics, but not really care enough of her children, and also won't really spend anytime on helping her!! Actually is not about want her helping or not, you know sometimes they just want you to be "there" by not just like they're working there all by themselves, all by alone!!!

I don't mind like people got over passionate about want to chasing their dreams or business or somewhat, but sometimes the very big gap of people between people was caused by this, they put career first, social network friends first......but not family who always be there for them and also who they 忽略 the most!! Don't really know when and how to mange their time and manage the human touch thing!! And all they left is just only the "passionate" and forgot how to communicate well with their family!!

    2. yes I agree with you Sheta, guess it's not only HK but probably in Asia generally?? we are walking too fast and many times we didn't care to slow down to appreciate what we have got, instead we just keep looking for what we do not and wish to have..

    3. So far I know that Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea are 人情冷落. Usually big city is 人情冷落.

No choice, all blame to the busy lifestyle and hectic culture.

    4. I saw guests at the same table inside a HKG restaurant using phones to Viber and Watsap each other like fools, So funny!

    5. Yah, I said HK because the first came into my mind is HK, as I watch the HK news everyday about their protest thing!! And from what I recall the most they always rushing, taking trains, bus and somewhat!!

Suddenly think of a quote "when you're busy chasing on something you don't have but at the same time you might losing what you're having...!"

    6. i guess this is can actually be generalized as the attitude of city dwellers?? the more hustle a city is, the more "cold" the people are??

    7. Maybe can say like that, is we change the society or the society is changing us...gradually the society became like even you're do something good, some people might have the idea saying you've the motive to do so, not like you really want to help them...yah!! So nowadays that's how people say you do bad thing people can make scold but even you do good thing people thinks that you've having motive to do so and kept on stepping on you...

  2. Morning everyone.. I like the sentence – slow down, and observe.. Well, mine is: Slow down and breathe.. Don’t pant, don’t panic, don’t rush..

Yeah, you are right and I really agree that we should slow down and observe our surroundings.. You might need their help one day, who knows? I’m talking about, say, neighbours..To be honest, I don’t really know all my neighbours in my entire floor.. But left right, and front, I know la.. It’s good to know them, and say hi (and bye) to them, coz you might not know when you might need their help back in future kua.. Just like I’m babysitting little girl for another neighbor occasionally.. It’s not something I like to to, to be honest, but I don’t mind helping once a while.. The feeling is good when we help others la (but not all the time, in my babysitting case ok), teehee..

    1. Giving is better than receiving.. The feeling is so good.. Like Kz’s kindy, they will be having year-end class party next week.. They ask for food sponsors, so I will be making something simple – potato & egg salad..

But other than that, I will be giving extra too.. I’ve decided to pack goodie bags for the teachers too.. Thinking to post about it later..

Actually I could have just give it to the two class teacher of Kz, but I decided to give more, I give to the all the teachers in the kindy.. Coz although there are only two class teachers for Kz, daycare is handled by rotation.. Means Teacher A and B for today, then Teacher C and D tomorrow, and so on..

So meaning, every teacher in the kindy is involved.. So I decided to give to all the teacher..

I guesd we don't really need to know our neighbours, but at least when we see each other, just put on a smile and a simple greet like "morning", "sudah makan" is good enough.. and of course better still if we could help each other.. :)

But too bad not many can.

maybe that is why so many professional look forward to retirement or those job hopper always hopping from one job to another..not just because of money but also for a career that gives them time to breath and slow down .

  9. I won't purposely go and get to know my neighbours, but when there is "you help me i help you" situation, we will approach each other, so we are still cordial. Nowadays city dwellers are more careful when interacting with others, sometimes out of necessity, you will never know who is good guy and who is bad guy.

I think non celebrity bloggers are people who are really slow and really observe their surroundings or else how to get content to blog about and also they are not busy chasing money and working as they are not blogging for money so they are just spending lots of time online blogging and commenting on others' blog without earning a dime.

Just like Sheta, despite being on the fast lane, she takes time to attend many exhibitions and kind enough to share them on her blog with us. You also lah, can think of many subjects to trigger us to think and leave comments here. So all this is not living in the fast lane. People who lives in the fast lane do not blog at all unless they are celebrity bloggers who blog for money.

During the season a couple of months ago, a durian tree in my neighbourhood had my full attention at least twice a day. The tree was so full of the fruit and I think it was the maiden flourish. Can't wait for the next season to have the chance to ooh and aah at the fruits again.

I meet neighbors only once in a while when I collect my laundry back or I hang my laundry. Only a few words or "Hi and Bye" only.

Our eyes on Facebook is more often on other things. Sigh! I am one of them.

    2. I stay at home most of the time but I hardly know my neighbors also, paiseh paiseh. I guess that's because of the 'distance'.
In laws house is a bungalow and I am at upstairs most of the time. Our compound wall is high we cannot see and greet the neighbors also. But mum-in-law still got talk to neighbors at left and right la, sometimes, when she is washing clothes at the balcony, cause from her balcony can see the neighbors, but have to talk very loud la! Hehe.

Good that mum-in-law still got correspond with them, so that they won't think we are so snobbish ma, the one on our left is a Malay family, she still invite us to her house during Raya, then the one on our right is Chinese family, also invite us if there's a special occasion. So I guess our relationship with the neighbors are still not bad huh? ;)

  33. 其實大家同枱食飯,各自按手機喺相當唔禮貌。同對方講嘢又心不在焉,倒不如唔好出嚟,喺電話上溝通咪得囉。

  34. Hmm, you still remember this mango tree was planted 20 years ago? That impressed me! I don't know when were those trees around my house or the in laws planted also :p
Actually the tree belongs to your family or your neighbours? Got try the mango? Sweet or not? Speaking of mango tree, there's an uncle near my mum's house who owns a mango tree, a very short one only, but the tree seems to have grow a lot of mango during its season, he always welcome people to go and pluck the mangoes, one day my dad tried and he said 'no wonder he allows anyone to go and pluck, cause the mangoes are not sweet at all', LOL! So bad la! :p
(Ok I hope I am not out of topic too much xD)

True la, life is indeed hectic these days, especially those of you working in big city like KL, go out early in the morning for work, then come back late at night, probably not because of workloads but due to traffic jam. The traffic already wasted a lot of your time. When you got home its already late, neighbours also stay indoor, no chance of talking/greeting to each other; shops around the neighbourhood also close already, no chance to take a look around. Weekend, most probably many will spend on sleeping, or family bonding time.
I guess not just no time to look around, but no time to exercise too!
See that's why many of you got no time to come entertain me during my recent KL trip, hoho!! :p

And you mentioned about busy looking at phones, haha cruel but true, smart phones/tablets are something so common and important these days, even small children also addicted to it. I guess it's not uncommon to see the whole family busy sliding the phones when we go out makan. Busy chatting, FB-ing, or checking-in apps.
Can't do anything about it, it's viral. I guess it happens everywhere around the world.
