in the recent government budgetary report for the year 2014 announced by our PM, besides the much talked about GST, i guess the other hot topic must be no other than the immediate withdrawal of the subsidy for sugar.. after a basic understanding of the GST i actually do not have any comment about it, rather the sugar subsidy kind of left me with some thoughts..

    3. Have a nice day! Don'y worry! Just enjoy your day.

    4. Ya don't have to worry so much.

      Delete
    5. haha, not for us to worry also lah.. actually i don't think that 34-sen increase per kg will affect us.. i think probably one packet of sugar could last for months at most household.. what may cause a problem is the increase in the prices of food and drinks outside.. :)

      Delete
    6. It's not only food and drinks that will be affected la...

It definitely will cause a domino effect one.

Sugar isn't only use at Mamak's place, right? hihihi

    1. When you go out for lunch, bring your own tumbler of water. No need order any drinks la.. Barley kurang manis ke, milo kurang manis ke, teh ais tak mau manis ke....

      Delete
    2. Free flow of plain water which you can dispense from your office pantry. FOC. And it's healthy too, haha.. Or.... bring your own 3-in-1 milo packet if you teringin sangant nak milo that day...Put hot water in your flask (again, free flow from your office pantry), then when you order your lunch, just ask for a cup from the waiter... And make your own 3-in-1 milo.. Haha

      Delete
    3. haha, no lah, i am still not so auntie enough to carry my own bottle of water everywhere lah.. but i guess probably no need to order drinks since can have free flow of water in office.. actually plain water is the best lah, or else if really thirsty i think "suet char" is actually a good idea.. :)

    4. Like that one ar...

I think better and much easier eat in the office rather than go out.

      Lagi save! LOL

  3. yes definitely businesses will charge more with this subsidy cut, regardless of what you order has sugar or not. Because their cost overall has increased. :(

    1. I was least bothered about the sugar prices in future as a small packet will last me for months! I probably should worry about the price hike by cafes and restaurants in future.

      Delete
    2. I think the cafes should create a new menu for drinks "with or without" sugar! Just like GONG CHA iced bubble tea, they give you options from 0% Sugar with gradual increasing percentage options till 100% Sugar. That's wise.

      Delete
    3. I agree with you. no sugar but give us more of the drink or price reduce la,

      Delete
    4. yes, that is what i am trying to say.. probably households will not be affected since it's just 34-sen per kg and one packet can actually last for many months.. the potential problem lies in the hiking price outside lah.. but just dream on lah, with or without or less sugar, we will still be charged the same price lah.. and have you noticed in supermarkets, no sugar drinks are even more expensive than normal ones!!

  5. I don't really think that sugar is the direct cause for diabetics. It has something more to do with the human's insulin organ being malfunctioned.

I suspect Ros Mama has diabetics now, by just looking at her ballooning size! So the concerned hubby realised that having a fat population might create many disadvantages to the nation. Whatever it is, better be safe than sorry.

I wonder if make hair products need sugar or not...you know la those hair gel and those conditioner

      Delete
    2. Correct TM, sugar is not the direct cause for diabetics. Some is from family history. Genuinely when one body process is malfunction from the insulin organ like what you mentioned earlier is the main cause.

      Delete
    3. Meow if sugar is needed in those hair gel I think I don't dare to use... I scared ants will fine me later...hehehe

      Delete
    4. of course sugar is one of the cause but cannot say it's the sole cause for diabetes lah.. i would certainly welcome the subsidy cut if there is convincing reasons and also a resolution to the problem.. not just talk lah.. just like one of the PR leaders said "the never asked and spent, after spent then ask for more!!" which i totally agree!!

errr, sugar in hairgel and conditioner?? haha, like that i will not buy them lah.. later the ants will be hiding inside my hair~~ :D

  7. #2 With the sugar price raising from RM2.50/kg to RM2.84/kg, my neighbour will cry buckets of tears as she uses so much sugar every month to make sweet kueh-kueh and bake cakes for her children & many grand children. Anyways, who cares?

    2. yeah, i wonder if McD will start to charge for the sugar sachets they are going to give?? or at least not to place them for everyone to take but have to get them over the counter?? but i guess this may give them a reason to increase their price again!!

we may have to ask people who often bake, does the price raising from RM2.50/kg to RM2.84/kg really affect a lot?? Taiping Baking Queen?? :)

    1. If for health reasons, better to promote healthier lifestyle.

Pot-bellied ministers should show example and walk the talk.

      Go out and exercise!

      Eat healthy!

      Stop smoking!

Don't just spend time in air-conditioned places.

Stop building malls and start maintaining parks!

      Less tax on sports equipment.

      Better healthcare services.

Many more ways for the PM and government to be penyayang :(

ah, clever Lina.. i definitely support your suggestion to get the pot-bellied officer to cut down on their diet and to increase their exercise!! OMG, look at officers in other countries, so slim fit even with their body hugging uniform on.. ours?? tsk tsk tsk.. see thieves they run away and only show up when they have gone.. and always "find eat" at dark places and dark allies..

  11. The price goes up 34 sen only A KILO and if the prices go up "10 to 30 sen in stalls and shops, or 50 sen to RM1 in restaurants", it speaks volumes about the integrity of the business people all around.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. there are actually two ways to read this lah.. the first is from the number of cents, of course 10 to 30 sen increase is far unacceptable.. but look from the percentage angle, 34sen increase is around 15% increase, so 10-sen increase to a RM2 drinks is actually not too bad huh??

      Delete
    2. The last time they increased the prices of kopi-o-peng here, it was up by 30 sen from RM1.20, everyone swore not to drink at coffee shops anymore. How soon people forget...so increase as they like, I am sure all this sound and fury will simmer out pretty soon... Some things never change!

    2. They don't tax on income, they need to get money from elsewhere what. 1+1 =2. Otherwise, how?

I would say increase income taxes...not on goods and services. People who don't have much income, poor pensioners for instance, would be taxed when they buy their daily necessities and all that. Tax those with incomes - the more they earn, the higher the tax - that will be very fair!

  15. Depressing topic la today

Like you have said sugar price increase and yet sure those business that use sugar will not reduce the usage la.

Like certain baking things...some cakes, buns and cookies if you reduce usage of sugar too much , it will not work. The cakes will go flat. Even roti need sugar to react other wise tak jadi.

for jam, must also have sugar coz it help with the jam to "stick" else will be watery.

household wont be affected much la but business will surely kena kau kau lo.

for business they will either increase price or reduce portion lor. Like the puff that you highlighted and posted the other day. Size maybe reduced further lor.

    1. Sugar up less than 40 sen A KILO...but wait and see how those horrible business people will increase the prices of what they sell. Daylight robbers, simply taking advantage. May they all burn in hell, whoever do that!!!! Sumpah them plus plus, sial all their lives!!!

Like Budget Day, all the shops NO sugar. The following day, ALL the sugar miraculously appeared out of nowhere, selling at the non-subsidised prices. Obviously, that was old stock - so they are making 40 sen extra for each kilo...of the existing stock they have. Go ahead...that extra that you earned, you'll answer for it in Hell!!!

      Delete
    2. surely any increase in the price of raw materials will lead to price increase at the consumer end, this is rather inevitable or maybe i can say predictable.. let's wait and see, the current price won't last long and with the GST coming soon, experts predicts another 2% inflation..

      Delete
    3. 2015. They're all habits...and not very good ones at that. I'm off sugar, salt and msg...and now I'm beginning to sense the flavours in everything that I never could notice before. Sure, prices will go up - sugar's up less than 10% and the bakeries are going to raise their prices by 15%. Go ahead...Man does not live on bread alone! - it's in the Holy Book.

Interesting topic! Guess many bloggers will express their anger in this post. Actually I guess we all can sort of expect some 'surprising' news to be announced after the budget report, just that I din't know this round, our dear PM is so 'funny' lo~

    1. Well, I certainly don't know from which source/study our PM found this piece of news. Too much sugar affects the sex performance??? Wow, interesting!! But then if really affect the sex performance of Malaysian, what does it have to do with him leh? It's so personal ma! 管拒x事咩?
      What a ridiculous excuse!

      Delete
    2. Agree, if too much sugar affects the sex performance, why not focus on other healthier food instead?

Hmm, I don't know how hawkers will response to that, but at least a 20 cent increase is unavoidable already la!
If request for no sugar or less sugar, surely won't get discount la! Cause most of the drinks are already sugar-added. Whenever I go hawker stalls and order 'kurang manis' punya drinks, end up it's still sweet one >.<

    3. Haha yea, let's see if there's any tax being reduced *fingers crossed*
But honestly, I think there's just a rare chance for this to happen. Tax only go up, never come down one.

      Haih, speechless la!!

    4. Income tax will be reduced - all incomes not more than 4K will not be taxed. All my life, I never earned THAT much...and had to pay so much income tax every year!!! Count your blessings!

    5. wakakakaka, Hayley is very angry today!! and she even almost burst out with vulgar words, haha!! but frankly, after hearing that joke, even the saint will want to swear!! not that it's a bad idea, but then it has to be convincing and has to have a resolution to the problem, not just putting a joke that way.. well, maybe just his problem or with the hippo he is sleeping with?? hahaha~~

well, not just look at the income tax alone and also that RM4000 exemption.. look at the big picture and the nett amount.. the GST probably will get you to pay more than the tax reduced..

    6. Haters will hate. Whatever happened to Covey's positive thinking? Be pro-active. If there is a problem, work around it or to solve it. I know many in government service who drive taxis at night as their salary is not enough to support the family - with the high cost of living in KL...and many who do odd jobs (like my gardener who works for a school here but he goes around in the evenings and on weekends to cut grass at people's houses), bake and make cakes to supplement the family income. Truly, I salute them! Perhaps sometimes, we need to look at ourselves too...

    4. If our salary is not mark up according to our high cost of standard living, it is very hard for us to still survive. Ended our salary that we've earn I guess 70%is not for saving but for paying all this kind of high expenses we have to bear. I've read an article that a couple of husband and wife work in an office with a total income of RM 7k monthly also don't have sufficient of fund for saving... they have only one kid and a baby. Need to take care of insurance, kids need: books, tuitions, medical and also milk powder. even car loan and house loan.... I also can't imagine how worse it gonna be when years to come. Guess the husband need to get a part time job.

    5. An overall, they shouldn't focus so much important with price increase for sugar. Why are they so kan cheong to announce it that soon? There are many other things they can consider which is more alarming then this sugar thing. So what is it so big deal if too much sugar intake can weaken sex?

    6. I believe our life will be as sweet as sugar if they really cares about their citizen... Rather then asking us to generate more fund to them and forget to benefit the citizen. Yeah life has to move on, continue to cheer up and we have to keep a moderate living too.

    9. yes, we accept that everything has a cause but it just have to be convincing and also there is a plan to follow up with a resolution to the problem or issues.. merely talking and joking isn't what a great hero will do.. anyway, GST is going to hike up a 2% one-off inflation as experts has expected, we shall then see if our low pay will be increase on par with our hiking expenses.. and i surely agree with your suggestion.. more tax on cigarettes and also increase the level of welfare and services for the people.. we are paying tax and we should expect some returns, not just dumping our money into the sea!!
