[Volume 8 Issue 7, #1762]
yes, that's my hand holding a tube of hand cream, but of course i am not doing a product review or a sponsored post, so it's safe to read on, haha!! it's just that cuticles are growing on my fingers cannot and i can't resist to peel them off.. in the end, it has become a habit lately and many times extra skins are peeled off together leaving my fingers look so horribly unsightly.. the more they get unsightly, the more i'll peel the skin, and it becomes never ending.. also by looking at this photo, i realized my hands are actually very dry too.. i know i know, it may seem pansy for a guy to put on hand cream, especially that moment he is applying (geez!!), i don't care and just have to do it when no one sees (but why the heck i'm blogging publicly here??!!).. i've heard beauty experts say, you can conceal your age with your face but your neck and hands would tell it!! anyway, i don't really bother about that, what's more important to me is the neatness and cleanliness of my fingers and nails, i think guys should take this seriously as dirty hands will give a bad first impression~~ :)

Yeah, hand creams can do wonders for dry skin. Smooth hands are great for shaking hands too. No?

  8. Sometimes we ladies also feel very lazy to apply cream on our hands/legs. I have a tube of manuka honey/lanolin cream which I bought from NZ. I put it right in front of this laptop so that I remember to apply it to my hands/legs especially at night.

  16. Good Morning SK Thambee!!! Oh Gross! Your hands sure needs help and it's crying for creams!

Now that you are taking extra virgin olive oil everyday, you will have new skin textures very soon. How long will depend on your olive oil consumption and skin damages.

I am curious what you have been doing until your skins started to dry and crack up. You are not even a manual labourer who works in the construction site. You are actually a high profile worker who sits in the air conditioned room's comfort playing PC all day.

If my classmates were to see your hands like that, they would definitely tease you and ask you to wank lesser!! Wakakakakaka

  18. I started using creams when I was living in the 4 seasons climate where the air was so dry with no humidity. My skin was cracking up like kueh kapit crumbs! OMG! I had to sapu gallons of creams and moisturizers everyday from head to toe including my nostrils. My nose would bleed and my ears were falling apart too.

I am sure SK also started using creams when he was studying in UK. Now you are getting serious skin dryness and it will lead to some other problems like bacterias will penetrate into your skin easily. We humans are covered with skin to protect our organs from the bacterias and diseases. So if our protective skins are cracked, dangers are looming ahead!!

    1. While you use the creams and skin lotions as a help to heal your skin, you should address the inner problems beneath the skin which caused the dry skin. Not necessary it was the cold and dry air that make your skin flaky. It could be that you lacked of certain supplements and nutrients besides sufficient water intake.

Here is some information I found:

      1. Dry Winter Skin

The colder months can be brutal on your skin. Outdoors, the wind dries it out; indoors, it’s battered by artificial heating. The key to fighting back is being vigilant. “Moisturize and stay covered up as best you can. Those are the two big ones,” says Vignjevic. He also suggests switching to a heavier moisturizer with shea butter or other occlusive ingredients. To seal in maximum moisture, apply it to your skin after a shower or bath.

Experts at Harvard Medical School also suggest lowering your thermostat a couple degrees and using a humidifier at home—however, be sure to clean it regularly to prevent mould and bacteria growth.

      2. Over-washing

Over-washing is especially problematic for the hands, says Vignjevic. “People wash their hands a lot, and you can definitely get hand dermatitis, caused by both the water and the soap.” He recommends reducing the amount of exposure by wearing gloves when you’re working with wet things, such as when you’re cooking or washing dishes. When you do clean your hands, avoid harsh soaps (for example, those with words “antiseptic” or “antibacterial” on the label). Be sure to apply moisturizer afterward—keep a bottle by the sink so you don't forget.

      3. Aging

Maturing skin needs extra help when it comes to avoiding dryness. Vignjevic recommends trying anti-aging moisturizers, which are usually richer and may offer the skin added benefits. Serums, which have a liquid texture, can also rejuvenate aging skin by helping to repair damaged DNA, removing free radicals, and boosting the production of collagen and elastin (both are fibres that make your skin strong and elastic). “Start using a serum in your 40s,” advises Vignjevic.

      4. Medication

While they’re powerful at combatting zits, certain anti-acne medications can also cause dry skin. Vignjevic tells his patients to use a moisturizer in conjunction with the therapy to help keep skin hydrated.

      5. Other Skin Conditions

If your dry skin is persistent and you’re concerned that you may be suffering from a skin disorder such as eczema or psoriasis, get it checked out by your family doctor. There is a wide variety of skin therapies that can help, says Vignjevic, including topical steroids and oral medications.

    2. When I lived with a Korean guy as my room mate in US, he amazed me with his home moisturizing methods. Besides using the normal skin creams bought from the shelves, he would used the fruit skins and peels. After cutting the honey des, citus or water melons, he would smear the fruit skins all over his hands and both legs. He left the nutritious juice onto his skin until it dried by itself and he would wash both his hands and legs later. My room mate's skin is flawless and milky while like those flower boys! He is not the same guy I have blogged about. Anyways, he taught me this common procedure where almost all Korean ladies do!

Over here in Malaysia, we have abundant fruits to try on our skin! We can toy with durian, rambutans, ciku, chempedak, mangoesteen and even kote mamak fruits. Wakakakakakakakakaka

    7. Overseas four seasons climate have to use cream la. But Kesian them also coz need to have all sorts of cream to protect their skin. Cream for winter, summer, spring and autumn coz different timing different cream.

Could it be why that some of those "branded' cosmetic product from the four seasons country not suitable for asian skin. Terbalik the nearerst Japan or korea product more suitable for our skin.

Agree with anay have to tackle skin rpoblem from outside and inside too. Now kept having haze here, my skin also feel so dry. Face full of pimple jor. Need to drink more water.

Kaldip syok oh...nearly everyday drink cucumber juice. But terbalik i dont like cucumber juice leh. I drink chinese tea ...good for body can detox but not so good for skin la.

as for over washing...ahem ahem...time to "sell" Method product. Use their dishwashing liquid and their hand wash. It's non-toxic and enviromenat friendly. Normal dish washing liquid and hand wash are made of chemical. All those toxic when you wash your hands it goes into your pores. You cannot drink these dishwashing liquid, why would you let your skin "drink" them? Method product all tarak use chemical punya. all pure natural . They have this cucumber dishwashing liq...so when use it, not only safer but maybe moisturise your hand too? LOL...the moisturing hand part I add la...not proclaim by Method la

“Start using a serum in your 40s,” advises Vignjevic.??? wei.....40s already too late la....30s alreqady should start lor as asian skin age faster leh

Yoru korean room mate is clever leh...good idea. Like when we cooking eggs...you break the shell then throq away the shells right? Leka on the shell still have bits of eggs whie mah...can sapu on your face . Extra collegen LOL....finish cooking the egg white on face sure dried alreadty. Can wash away. Kill two bird in one go.

woi...rambutan how to stick on face la...lulian maybe la....Hmmm mangosteen might works you know..after all it taste a bit sourish ...can blend and paste ..maybe can work as a sort of skin peeler...melt away the dead skin and reveal brighter skin.

    2. Our hand's skin are very sensitive compare to other parts. Always try to purchase mild detergent, washing products and soap. So for babies, try not to use too strong detergent to wash their clothes.

      Delete
    3. Hands are very important - we shake hands, we hold each other hand, we use to handle things. For sure we must have better way to maintain a good pair of hands (just like SK did) when we meet clients (we have more confident after applying lotion?).

No doubt, hands easily got germs, always remember to wash our hands and keep our hands clean all the time before applying lotion – that is the basic!

      Delete
  22. SK for your information, I have basic training on manicure and pedicure. I’ve been gone through basic nail art courses for 1-2yrs. Just for fun lar…

    1. Remove colour with nail remover. (Men do not need this)

    2. Use nail clipper to trim and file your nails according to the shape you desire. Later if can slightly buff your nails - just try to make your nails surface even.

    3. Get a pail of luke warm water and soak your hands inside for couple of minutes. It will make your hands skin softer.

    4. Then use a cuticle cut to get rid of the thick/excess skin and dirt along our cuticle area.

    5. Then finally, wash with soap and scrub before applying lotion over your hands.

    6. Intensive care, apply cuticle oil along the cuticle area and massage finger by finger.

    7. If apply new nail colour. Just use a cotton pad/cotton wool dap with some nail remover to clean the nail bed to get rid the excess oil before applying.

SK for best result, get a hand scrub. Try to scrub your hand once every 2 weeks. Of course good things always get better if you do more. But too often of scrubbing may course your hand’s skin peel off. Moderation is the best.
