16.04.2013 | 修橋補路

[Volume 8 Issue 4, #1706]
i believe we see more and more roads being fixed and maintained lately, similar to seeing police check points when festive seasons are approaching, road fixings suggest that the election is near.. do not mistaken me, i am not touching on the sensitive political issues but i guess this has to do with the norms of common perceptions?? one famous person in Malaysia once said "you help me, i help you" so i guess all these road fixings were carried out for some specific purpose?? why have they not being done throughout all the years but only these days?? obviously.. perhaps people tend to only remember good things that happened lately (i.e. the recency effect), but do not forget that people also tend to judge by that few black sheep amongst the flock.. just like doing charity, it's not just a couple of actions with an intention but rather something consistent that we see as our responsibility to the society.. :)

    1. The funny thing is that our roads tend to crack up more before elections! Even criminals would multiply like rabbits too.

    2. I wonder if this is a universal problem and would the new govt be mending roads more diligently too when their turn arrives. Left to be seen, eh?

    1. What about the money? I, for one, listened to rumours and took ALL my money out - now instead of 6+% per annum, I get 3+ only from the bank.

My cousin's hubby is the manager of the office here in Sibu and he scolded me - said that if there is a problem, wouldn't he warn all of us and ask us to withdraw all our money quickly and wouldn't he do the same?

Don't listen to rumours and don't spread them either. Be responsible citizens - there is a limit to all this nonsense!

    2. STP, I understand EPF has a new scheme for the self-employed, housewives, and others, who do not currently have an EPF account. Not sure how it works though. May be worth looking into if the same yearly dividends apply.

      Delete
    3. Just like STP, dun listen to the rumours...

      Delete
    4. There is.

I went to the office here, said I would like to withdraw all my money - they processed it quickly and in two or three days, the money in my bank account already.

Now, have to take out...and go to the EPF office...to reactivate my account....scared lah!!! Not safe these days, later I kena rompak - all the money that I have GONE!!!!

Never mind lah!!! Kena cheated by all those idiots - spreading all kinds of rumours...now I have to be happy with half the interest/bonus. I curse all of them - may a thousand fleas of a camel attack their private parts and they cannot scratch!!!

      Delete
    5. They have over borrowed and spent so much money from there. They will never be able to repay all over their graves. You were lucky and withdrew them out. I have to wait for a long time more to touch it....if it will still be there. It is not mere rumours but facts. I didn't say that they money is gone yet. So you are screaming now for being the foolhardy. No worries, you are safe and should be happy lah. I would be happy to re-invest them elsewhere.

      Delete
    6. Annay, I need to wait decades before I can withdraw my Eee Pee F. Don't know by then, what would happen to it!

      So scarry~

      Delete
    7. Ah Hua, you seems to understand what I meant. We don't know what the future lies ahead with the $$$ by looking at the way they borrow and spend. So scary hor!!! I will withdraw ahead of you, ha ha ha!!! Who ask you to be born so late!!! Niak! Niak! Niak!....

    9. Me too hv to wait long time to withdraw but by yhen the money value might be down already.

If not mistaken, if the deposit amount is a large sum the customer can ask for special rate fr thw bank. Much higher rate but dont think will reach 6% la

      Delete
    10. No way the bank will give unless there is a promo...and there are always some hidden strings attached. Beware!!!

      Delete
    11. it's way too far for me to be eligible to withdraw my money from the Yippie-Eff too!! for sure i worry what is gonna happen to my money i've earned with so many hardwork!! and everything happens for a reason, and there is always roots to trace for what has been said..

wow, heat discussion above?? well, i guess let's not blame others for what we chose to believe agree?? we always have the choice to make good judgements and then the right decisions and actions to take.. blaming others when things went wrong doesn't help at all!! we are all adults, we are always responsible for the consequences as a result of our decisions and actions.. hmmm, i believe that was how our parents and teachers always taught us right?? :)

oh BTW, STP, if you have a big amount of money, you can always negotiate the rate with the Bank, don't have to wait for promo lah.. Banks sure want your money one!! haha~~

      Delete
    12. I tried. No way... They say put in savings first (1%) and when there is a promo, they will let me know. Banks not desperate for money (economy no good?), that's why. When they are in need, the interests will go shooting up - no need to ask one.

      Delete
    13. why put in savings account first?? can't just put them as FDs?? haha, Banks not desperate for money?? impossible.. perhaps you are a retiree or maybe your money isn't much enough for the nego or there is just few banks at your place?? hehehe~~ the interest has to go with BNM regulations as well as the economy trend, cannot shoot up just like that, but Banks can adjust them slightly higher but within the allowed range..

      Delete
    14. If I put in FD and there is a promo, the money is tied down there and I cannot switch to the more attractive offer. Well, as for whether my money is enough or not to allow me to negotiate or not, that's for me to know. I get a bit extra than young people though - they have special rates for senior citizens. Whatever banks you have there, we also have here...except Bank Islam and that Mubarak or whatever the name is.

      Delete
    15. do the maths do that maths, press your calculator and see which way gives you the most money.. oh yeah, better rates for senior citizens?? that's good right?? ever thought of depositing your money into Islamic banks?? the profit sharing rate may be higher than interests published by normal commercial banks..

      Delete
    16. All banks - or those that I go to, have Islamic accounts. No leh...no need. Wait till I'm desperate first.

      Delete
    17. got way la...have to negotiate with big boss. Not with the tiny officer.

  3. We have road maintenance here all the time on a regular basis.

We can email the town council to draw their attention to any road in pretty bad shape and they will see that it is done nicely.

Of course, they have their problems - allocations, how much funds available...so they need to spend according to their priorities. Will have to understand that. Cannot just say - I want the road outside my house resurfaced and it will get done right away.

    1. We have hundreds more broken roads in the capital, so emails are useless as snails don't read emails.

    2. Agree.

But then again, maybe Sibu doesn't have that many roads to cover in the first place! LOL

      No offense ya...

Different cities, different problems. Problems in my hometown may not be a problem in KL and vice versa.

Hard to know unless one experience it.

Every place has their own set of problems.

My kampung roads also very nice especially the ones leading to Orang Asli settlement.

Partly because it is not used that extensively compared to city roads. But if lori hantu pass by, sure one day habis also.

    6. Ahhhh!!! I agree with TM about those snails there!!! I have it up to here with those people in the ministry! Incompetent! Inefficient! Brainless!!!

If there IS a change, I hope they will pick their officers based on MERIT...not for any other reason. If they can do their work well, go ahead...but no!!! All they know is to tunjuk gaya, act like so high class, so important - but everybody knows - absolutely kosong!!!!

    7. yeah, we always see roads in very bad conditions in the capital and a few that has been left that way were recently being repaired extensively.. anyway, i have only lived in this city and not others, so i think it's just not right to judge the efficiency of the authorities in other places.. but what i observed in my own place is what i have written in this post today..

all i have to say.. things may not be better after the change, but definitely it IS going to be worse if the change is not going to take place.. it's sure fair for a gamble under this situation to me..

    8. One question? In the last GE, one party had the most seats in three states...and was made the state government in only one. Why? Haven't we been shortchanged here? Equal distribution...at the expense of the under-privileged? I certainly hope this is not going to happen this time around. Fair is fair - you win the most seats - you form the government. Period.

      Delete
    9. very true, you win the most seats you form the government, that is always the rule of the game.. i hope there is no biased opinions here, but WHOEVER forms the government needs to implement changes, this is to progress with time and trend.. we look forward to all good changes for the benefit of the people, in the end, who makes a good leader is the leader the people want, agree?? I think before election, they get more money from "some people" for "obvious reasons" so they can do more - best time to request....want to do the driveway outside your gate, also no problem. Just call them...and request!
