i sometimes wonder why fine-dining is not common here.. one major reason must be the street food we have, cheap and nice and delicious.. instead of gingerly holding your forks and knives in a high-end restaurant, and at the same time so worry about your steak flying out of your plate and land on the cleavage of the lady in front of you (=.="), i would think many would prefer to be more relaxed eating that piece of generous whole chicken leg using hands on the scruffy street side.. i think, to be able to eat happily is to be able to eat comfortably..

my desire drove me here for food after reading blogger uLi's post.. crowded on a sunday night..

curry chee cheong fun with pig's skin, chee cheong fun is nothing but i love the curry pig's skin (RM3.80).. pork & organs congee, very nice indeed (RM4.00).. fried chicken, so close to KFC, queued up for 10min for this (RM2.00 each).. fried carrot cake, very normal indeed but can't understand why the owner is so arrogant (RM4.00)..

  6. Fine dining is all right once in awhile. Good fun is usually found in less glamorous establishments...like old kopitiams, run-down stalls where food quality is more important than ambience.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I meant good food...hhaha. Typo error.

    ReplyDelete
  8. yeap, the importance of enjoying good food is to enjoy it at your comfort! hehee..sometimes fine dinning is a bit pressuring though. lol...:)

  10. [SK] I really lol when I read "your steak flying out of your plate..[..]" oh my goodness luckily no one is around me else thought I went cuckoo over the weekend. Great joker. Used to wonder a lot during our younger days on fine dining. Those days can't google for info as most of us squat to eat by the roadside one hehe. How to 'saw' the chicken, left or right hand on the knife, can eat the bun dunked into mushroom soup, napkin should be on the lap or around the neck etc. One classic case, friend said those kwailo eat without opening their mouth. "What the heck, what talking you" all of us boo-ed that poor guy. "How to eat without opening the mouth, how to put the food in, you 38 ah?" "Aiya its when chewing the food, the mouth must be closed and without making those 'chup chup sound'" advised the wiser friend. Sigh..OIC. Think squating is still the most relaxing..haha

  12. havent been to that pasar malam before, but there r lots nice food around that area :)
i also prefer street food over fine dining, i guess whether to fine dine or street dine depends on the occasion, company etc...

  13. Bro what a great day to start the week when the steak go flying into cleavage and not someone plate next table? haha. Heard a waiter was holding on the steak with his thumb and the customer was obviously not happy at all, said the waiter "You want it to fall a second time on the floor?".

    C'est la vie:

    L²:
haha, really?? actually that was my first time there only.. don't want to be DS & your lightbulb lah, kekekeke :p

    Donna:
haha, of course lah, if got people buy me food at expensive high end restaurant i also won't hesitate to go lah.. :p

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mei Teng:
yeah, but really only once in a while.. those less glamorous place and run-down stalls are actually another version of "fine-dining", zero presentation zero ambience but absolute taste.. haha.. :)

    Gabriel:
yeah, you catch the point.. actually not just about eating, it's more fun to do anything at our comfort level.. fine-dining, let me think, have i ever been to any?? :p

    Wois:

  25. Bananazക:
haha, i don't know why but that picture just came into my mind when i wrote this post.. luckily you didn't embarrass yourself in office, hehehe.. hmmm, not only fine-dining, since young my parents have already train me not to make any noise when chewing things in my mouth and when sipping soup or drinks, it's actually some kind of table manners.. but really there's a lot of things to learn for a good table manner in a high end restaurant, pressurising enough yeah?? that is why, most of us would prefer to enjoy in a more run-down streetside stall right, nobody will laugh at how you eat your food..

    tagnan:

    the happy go lucky one:
i don't think that is a pasar malam but instead just selling food.. this was also my first time being there, after reading uLi's post.. i was so excited when i reached there, wow, impressed by the crowd and the many stalls, but cannot afford to try everything lor..

    ReplyDelete
  26. CheaHS@n:
haha, if somebody can make it flying to somebody else's plate then that would be real cool "kungfu" don't you think so?? haha.. and was that a real story about the waiter holding on the steak with his thumbs?? :p

    Gratitude:
haha, but you think you are capable of sapu-ing all the food varieties in that street?? hehe, and i thot you only like buffet steamboat~~ :p

    Tekkaus:
of course bro, drumsticks are always best to eat with bare hands.. and after that, lick your fingers clean.. :p

    ReplyDelete
  27. thomas:
it was also my first time there, because read about it from a blogger's post and arouse my desire so much.. should go and try, the food are nice there.. :)

    Medie007:
errr, not really, i remember dining with you in Chili's!! hehe, oooopss, actually to us Chili's is considered "fine dining" already kan?? :p

    Chris:

    ReplyDelete
  28. Grass:
hmmm, you make me miss the penang food already.. i still can't forget the fruit rojak i once had there.. :(

    Pete:
err, i am not a businessman so really no chance for fine-dining for business entertainment.. in fact, come to think about it, have i been to any fine-dining before?? :p

    summer:

SK, good of you to quote the price of each dish - gives us some idea of food there in Pudu. I think the first dish is a little too pricey. No?

  37. [foongpc] cannot help but lol, what is the difference when someone buys for you, cooked by the same pair of arrogant hands, at the least you don't have to see his face.

  46. HappySurfer:
yeah, normal without pig's skin is only RM2.80, they charge RM1.00 for that little pig's skin which i think it's a bit expensive.. but no doubt it is very nice..

    kc:
haha, nice place isn't it?? i think i'm gonna go there more often.. :p

    foongpc:
yeah, i also prefer to eat more comfortably.. fine-dining, come to think of it, i don't think i have really been to any, what a shame!! haha, i just want to try how nice the food is and what makes him so arrogant.. and the answer is, just very normal standard, and he is arrogant maybe because he has the monopoly of that street.. SS17 hokkien mee?? i have not heard that before, really nice??

    ReplyDelete
  47. CheaHS@n:
hahaha, i supposed that a joke too.. cos i don't think the waiter in a high end restaurant will talk to customer like that :)

    tagnan:

    Bengbeng:

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ayie:
haha, and have you actually been to the real "Food Trip" elsewhere, where your only intention is to go find food instead of going sight-seeing?? that would be fun i guess, haha..

    manglish:
errr, this was my very first time there, so i really have no idea of the history.. nope, i didn't see an old lady selling the chee cheong fun, was a middle-aged woman doing that actually.. and same to the fried carrot cake, it's not an old man but a younger one.. i dunno who is the boss for the fried chicken, a chinese uncle??

    edward:
