    1. A States there as oven-grilled veggie, but it looks like the veggie very fresh to me, I thought is salad, hahaha...

B You miss your trip ya?? So thinking of visit again recently?? Hehehe!!

C I like this one wor, don't need to crack the shell then can eat already, because usually eat crab will automatically think of need to break the shell or something then will dirty hands or something, but this one can straight away eat (actually I'm very lazy, any food like crab and shrimp I don't like to eat one, because need to spend on remove the shell)

D I remember last time when I was very young I can eat like three pieces of chicken but now one or two is more than enough, is it because of the age matter ya??

E Har?? durian soda ya?? I like durian but could it be 发热气 argh after drinking?? Coz usually if eat the durian more than 4 to 5 pieces, I already need to drink a lot of water or drink herbal tea to 打底 a bit, so if drink this one...does it mean need to drink extra more bottle of very 凉 geh drinks lo~~~

    2. A: lightly grilled only, more healthy mah.. and salad not necessarily must be everything raw de~~

      B: Hokkaido?? anytime!! haha..

C: yalor, actually i also lazy to eat crab because of the shell.. if the meat already shelled, then anytime!! hahaha..

D: yalor, last time i also can eat 3 pieces but now 1 is already enough leh..

E: i dunno ah, i don't eat durians so not to mention drinking durian soda :D

    3. Yummzz, your fried pork cutlet looks very juicy and “doh chap” wor.. Lots of sticky gravy, I like.. Sik dou liam laim lei lor? No rice or noodles? Marinated with miso I assume? Coz you said deep fried pork with miso.. Now thinking back, I regretted throwing a box of miso paste away coz I don’t know how to make use of it.. I only know how to mix with water and drink.. I regretted now.. Why I didn’t think of marinating with meats and then grill in oven leh? Haizzz….

      Delete
    4. Ok, your crab salad looks very hoiwai..I don't like greens but I will eat those topping, whatever you have - eggs, crab, potatoes, bacon, whatever.. Your salad looks cold and refreshing..Ok jugak.. But hor, if you don’t mention real crab meat, I thought crab sticks meat leh.. I zoom clear clear also I think it feels like crab stick meat wor.. But I zoom even closer (my nose touching the monitor), ok, it looks like real crab.. Wasehhh, sedap, man !!

    6. Yeah, I saw your FB regarding durian soda.. I was like, apa tuh ? Ooohh, yes, I know Shojikiya, it is always next door to Pasta Zanmai geh.. I always drop by for their red bean green tea ice cream and panda snacks.. If I see this durian soda, I think I won’t try lor, coz I don’t like durian.. But if got ppl buy, I will take a sip la.. If purposely buy, I wont kua..

    7. Lastly, aiyoh, so funny la you.. All food pictures, tiba-tiba got fei lou geh ? Ya wor, the fei lou looks very happy wor, I think I also wana pose beside him and take pictures.. I thought you are going to stand beside him and take picture, with your trademark pose timmm, haha..

A: aiyoh, give me five!! i also love all kinds of sausages, and also ham and bacon and luncheon meat!! :p

B: got lah, this one is a set that comes with rice somemore hor, i must tell you.. the rice and cabbage are free flow, so you can eat as much as you can!! but of course, i am not you lah Princess Ribbon, one portion already enough for me :D

  4. A. Loves the food your friend cooked... :)

  5. I love it every time I see food! So when you have nothing to blog about, you put up a post on food that you have eaten and captured on your phone. So the food that you ate and captured can provide you with emergency material.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yes, whenever i run out of topic, i will start to dig out photos from my phone and then "tipu" for a new post, hahaha!! of course not all the time lah, sometimes i really want to share nice and special food also~~ :p

      Delete
    2. Phong Hong of course loves food. She makes nice food!!

      Delete
    3. Yeah, food is the most convenient topic to post. Just snap it before you makan and you get 1 post, unless you are a food marshall then it's a different story where you need to be more serious... muahahahaha...

      Delete
    4. yeah.. you are right!! now that i actually tend to keep all the food photos, and only dig them out when i run out of topic to blog :D

      Delete
  6. For me opposite pulak. When I run out of cooking/baking post, then I have talk about other things like my garden or store bought snacks

    ReplyDelete

    1. like that maybe we can exchange idea when we run out of idea!! hahahaha.. :D

      Delete
    2. Can, can! Now I am thinking of buying that Durian Soda, tasting and then blog about it hah..hah...

      Delete
    3. haha.. okay, then i wish you GOOD LUCK then, muahahaha :D

      Delete
  7. In fact I think it is a good idea because I also blog about the food I ate outside when I don't have anything to write on baking or cooking. So now when I eat out, I bring my camera along. I can't get good shots with my camera.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I mean I can't get good shots with my phone.

      Delete
    2. i think yours is even tougher because you blog is with a specific topic, so you gotta bake and cook a lot so that you can have more things to write.. hehe!!

      Delete
    3. That's why I put my tagline as "Baking, Cooking and Everything in Between". The "Everything in Between" is my escape clause to blog about other things besides baking and cooking.

      Delete
    4. hmmm, in between baking and cooking, i thought that's "steaming"?? haha.. you should have put, baking and cooking and everything "outside"!! hahaha~~ :D

  8. I would say that the Mediterranean Salad in photo A gets my vote! I love salads and this one is made with oven grilled vegetables. So far I only make salad with raw vegetable.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wonder where your friend bought the nitrate free Cumberland sausages. Most sausages and also ham and bacon contain nitrate. So far I have only come across low sodium sodium processed meats.

      Delete
    2. Oh got purple carrot! I read the description again because I thought that was purple sweet potato. Quite exotic lah this salad.

      Delete
    3. Now I am thinking what sort of salad dressing your friend used. It must be vinegar based and not the creamy type as I don't see any trace of creamy salad dressing on the salad.

      Delete
    4. The sausages got bintik-bintik on the inside. I am guessing those are herbs.

      Delete
    5. Oh, got raw greens in it too in the form of rocket leaves. I don't really like those rocket leaves. If I remember correctly, they are slightly bitter.

      Delete
    6. I can eat that Mediterranean Salad just by itself as my main meal and I'll be happy :)

      Delete
    7. I guess there is no point asking you about the salad dressing right? You only know how to eat nia muahahaha!

      Delete
    8. oh, my friend brought it somewhere from PJ but i have forgotten where she told me already.. i think there was no additional dressing for the salad, because the juice from the veggie and sausage was good enough.. and you are wrong, i KNEW there was no dressing used, hahaha~~ :p

      Delete
    9. hah..hah...I guess a salad basically means a mixture of fresh/cooked vegetables with or without meat and need not necessarily have additional dressing.

      Delete
    10. Me too...I like the Mediterranean salad the most ! Put some salt and pepper and it's damn nice!

      Delete
    11. yeah.. that's why this salad we had was cooked with no dressing.. or maybe my friend actually sprinkled some salt and pepper?? like that everything also can be called salad hor?? :D

      Delete
  9. Oh la la! Miso Katsu! Deep fried pork cutlet with miso, that sounds very delicious to me! Anything porky I will eat!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am staring at that plate of Miso Katsu and trying to figure out what else was in that platter. Is that orangey looking thing rice? Looks like nasi biryani but of course that cannot be hah..hah...

      Delete
    2. And what is that mountain of white stuff? Is it shredded cabbage? On top of it is some green thingy that looks like parsley.

      Delete
    3. Is that platter mean for sharing? Looks like a big portion but photos can be deceiving. The miso katsu is banjir with the miso sauce. I love that! Generous with sauce baru sedap.

      Delete
    4. Of course I remember your trip to Nagoya and Hokkaido! And I can't blame you for missing that trip. So are you planning to go there again?

      Delete
    5. oh, for your understanding sake, i have updated this photo to show the white ball was shredded cabbage, the dark gravy was miso and the orangey thing (also part of the dark thing) was the pork cutlet (darker part was because of the miso dressing).. it's for one person, but i think you surely have no problem finishing it lah, hehehehe.. Hokkaido again?? anytime!!! :p

      Delete
    6. Got it! Now I can see that the orangey part is the fried pork cutlet that was not covered by the miso sauce. Sure lah I can finish all by myself!

      Delete
    7. yeah.. you cracked me when you thought the orangey thing was nasi briyani!!! OMG, muahaha.. so i think i ought to clarify that and put text in the photo itself, no more misunderstanding :D

      Delete
  10. Wah, another salad! Fresh greens with chunky real crab meat and so much crab roe! And yuzu dressing must be very refreshing and a nice change from the usual goma dressing. I love goma dressing and have not yet tried yuzu.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Since they are using real crab meat, I would say this salad must be quite pricey. Not to mention the generous topping of crab roe.

      Delete
    2. I think tonight I cannot sleep liao thinking of the crab salad and wondering how yuzu dressing tastes like.

      Delete
    3. You hang out a lot at Publika kah? The Miso Katsu you ate at Tonkatsu by Ma Maison is at Publika. This crab salad from Edo Ichi is also at Publika. I went to Publika once and I noted that it is a happening place which auntie like me hardly go. Lots of very nice restaurants there. I must drag my partner there one day.

      Delete
    4. Speaking of crabstick, I hate that too! When I want to order sushi or maki or handroll, I will make sure to check they do not contain crabstick. That also goes for any seafood salad. If crabstick is an ingredient, then I will not order it.

      Delete
    5. just coincidence lah, i think i went to these two restaurants in Publika with at least half a year in between, haha.. oh yeah, i can't remember how much this salad was priced, but i don't remember it's expensive, if not mistaken about RM20.. and okay right?? since it's fresh crab meat and not crabstick, if crabstick then you will see only crabstick left in the empty bowls after i am done with the salad~~ :D

      Delete
    6. Hmmm...for RM20 is considered OK because it has real crab and crab roe. Crab roe not an easy ingredient to get. Worth it lah!

      Delete
    7. i hope those were crab roe and not shrimp roe, you know lah, i tau makan aje~~ :p

      Delete
  11. Alamak, KFC! hah..hah..hah.. After looking at the Mediterranean Salad, Miso Katsu and Crab Salad, this one is like an anti-climax.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But actually hor, I also like KFC lah. My usual order will be the dinner plate. This auntie can wallop 3 pieces of chicken, bun, coleslaw and mashed potatoes.

      Delete
    2. I am not familiar with this Super Jimat Box because I don't go to KFC often. I see that it has small fries, one piece of chicken and a bun stuffed with chicken fillet (Zinger??) Not a bad deal lah but I think tak cukup for this auntie.

      Delete
    3. When I was in school, KFC was considered a big thing and a treat. It was so special because my mum does not buy it for us to eat. I only get to eat it when my auntie belanja us. And it was something to look forwards to. Now, I have the money and the freedom to eat KFC whenever I want, but I don't fancy it as much as before. Ironic isn't it?

      Delete
    4. Back in those days when I was younger, I can eat a lot. On top of the KFC Dinner Plate, I will order a large coleslaw to go with it. Do you remember they used to have a Mixed vegetable Salad? I like that one a lot but they discontinued that item a long time ago.

      Delete
    5. oh, the Super Jimat Box is their limited time promotion, RM8.95 comes with a piece of chicken, a small fries, a Lil' ZInger and a regular drink.. quite a good alternative for me since i cannot wallop two pieces of chicken now and one is like not enough.. and come to coleslaw, i think KFC has the worst coleslaw ever, i hate that!! in fact i love their mixed veggie salad but they have discontinued that long time ago..

      Delete
    6. You got it right with the coleslaw! Very diluted and watery and got strong cabbage smell. But can't be helped as they prepared it way in advance and the cabbage will leak out water into the mayo dressing. But I eat it for roughage purpose hee..hee..

      Delete
    7. yeah, no choice because i would have asked to exchange for a mixed veggie salad last time, but now they don't have it.. it's either i just eat it like a zombie or leave it there..

      Delete
  12. I love durians but I don't think I want to drink that Durian Soda! Where is this Shojikiya?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Quite frankly, durian is good in itself and as a dessert like ice-cream and cake but as a drink particularly soda, it sounds quite yucky. And you did say that you find it quite yucky.

      Delete
    2. Especially if it is synthetic, I doubt if it tastes like real durian. It probably leaves an awful after taste and you have to eat or drink something to kill the taste.

      Delete
    3. What I find amazing is that this Durian Soda is a Japanese product. Do the Japanese eat and like durian? They love it enough to want a durian soda?

      Delete
    4. I wonder whether there is such thing as durian Kit Kat?

      Delete
    5. Shojikiya should be there in most of the malls, especially if you see XXX Zanmai, i guess there will be one next to the restaurant.. and yeah, even by just looking at the durian soda, i already feel yucky!! hahaha.. durian kit kat?? hmmm, maybe you can find it in Japan~~ :)

      Delete
    6. Oh, if that's the case I know where to find liao. There is one xxxZanmai in 1-U and I noticed they have some sort of shop next to it that sell Japanese stuff. Must be that one lah.

      Delete
    7. ah, yes!! that's Shojikiya next to the Sushi Zanmai in 1U, probably you didn't notice it because there's always a long queue outside..

      Delete
    8. What a cute question to ask where is Shojikiya? They are always next to any Zanmai outlets. In fact many said they are always like a pair of twins that need to be next door to each other.
I should go to Shojikiya to look for the durian soda and not just at Daiso

      Delete
    9. because they are all sisters under the same company lah.. wonder if you can find the durian soda in that outlet you go, blog about how you find it if you manage to get a bottle..

      Delete
  13. hee..hee.. that anay is cute lah! Cheerful and smiling/laughing away. I like his pink turban too.

    1. Are those vege real or decorations only? I have't been to Nu Sentral before.

      Delete
    2. It is interesting that they put up this jovial anay as part of the CNY decoration. If just looking at anay, we can't tell that it is CNY. Or maybe it is not for CNY but it is part of the shop's decor.

      Delete
    3. it's part of the CNY decorations in Nu Sentral, i guess the theme is something like celebration among all races.. and ironically, i don't find those Chinese characters nice, only this Anay gained my like~~ :p

      Delete
    4. Those Chinese characters are so common can see everywhere but this anay is quite rare. Besides his face can make me feel happy!

      Delete
    5. i think maybe the designer is an Anay also, all other characters made were not smiling, only this Anay was so happy!! hahaha, bias!!! :D

      Delete
    6. I am curious if that anay is meant for CNY or just a general decor? aaha... Doesn't blend well leh ... muahahahaha...

      Delete
    7. Hey Chris! Anay is suitable for all festive occasions in Malaysia dei.
Next year this Anay might wear the red samfu and hold kam oranges & ang pows! The trend has changed here whereas in Singapore, they are still so traditional.

      Delete
    8. why doesn't blend?? this is a place of multi-race, so everyone also can celebrate CNY.. and that was exactly the theme of the CNY decor in that mall.. Ah Kow, Ahmad and Anay all one family dei~~ :D

      Delete
  14. You know what? This post has given me the inspiration to recreate the Mediterranean Salad and Crab Salad. But may not have the same materials as I have never seen purple carrots before. Also don't know if can get yuzu here. So my salad project is on!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. oh, that would be nice, and this will be your new post probably next week?? hehehe.. errr, purple carrots are not that common, probably you need to go to those "ang moh" supermarkets and only by chance you will be able to see it.. and Yuzu dressing, i think it's quite common, i remember seeing it in Daiso, hahahaha!!

      Delete
    2. Oh ya kah? Then I must check Daiso to find the dressing. The salad not so soon as this weekend I am busy. But in the next few weekends I wanna do it!

      Delete
    3. yeah, i remember seeing that in Daiso but forgotten which outlet (i think not all outlets have that).. else, it could be in Isetan supermarket.. go to 1U lah, and you'd have all the Shojikiya, Daiso and Isetan, haha!!

      Delete
  15. KFC my favourite especially original flavour, but cannot eat as I just recovered from flu, cough and throat infection

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i also prefer the original one..

      Delete
    2. I prefer the spicy ones because it is more crispy and less oil dripping out like after the chicken showered!!

Oh yes, eating fried chicken is bad for throat and fever. Better eat porridge when you are sick.

      Delete
    3. what?? you mean the hot & spicy is less oily?? errr, probably you are right, because the oil are all absorbed and locked inside the thick batter already.. i prefer original because the spicy one is too spicy for my stomach, i cannot take it, sure lausai after eating..

  19. The Mediterranean style over-grilled vegetables dish with its colours (purple, yellow and red) really look good. I like to eat rocket leaves so this meal gets a LIKE from me. Truly delicious and healthy meal.

I have been to eat at Tonkatsu by Ma Maison a few times and each time it reminded me of the lovely trips to Japan. Sure will make you miss your trip to Nagoya and Hokkaido. Of course I remember reading your travelling adventure posts to Japan on your blog.

Salad at Edo Ichi with yuzu dressing gets the thumbs up from me too. Super healthy and tasty food.

Ah, next the KFC is not that healthy but very worth it with the Super Jimat Box price. Agreed that the set with varieties is a good option for people who are not that big eater.

Durian Soda? Only know about this from your this post. Thank you for the warning that it is purely synthetic so will avoid this.

The CNY decorations at Nu Sentral is really different from your photo where there is this jovial and happy man in it. Good that he spread his happiness to you.

the KFC set is a nice alternative for me..

haha!! I don't like durian, not to mention durian soda :p

ah, yes!! of all CNY deco I love this Anay the most!! :)

That plate of salad with the actual crab meat is so tempting.
Durian soda is new to me. I don't think I will like it even though I love durians.

Too bad, at the restaurants, they only gave you a small portion of it. The home-made ones are better!

    1. yeah.. it's lightly roasted and there was NO sauce used to marinated or for dressing.. everything plain and natural, haha!!

    2. Among all the dishes and yukky durian drink, I love this oven grilled vegetables the most. That must be the reason why SK put it as the first item to boast & share with us. The chef knew how to perfect grill without burning the vegetables black!

I was very tickled by SK's description of "nirate-free Cumberland sausages". Sound like a Michelin Chef writing food previews with mouthful bombastic words! Salute SK!

      Delete
    3. Anay you can cook this at home and impress Letchumy dei.. errr, nitrate-free cumberland sausages, that was what my friend told me, hahaha!! it does taste a little different from those normal sausage we bought with nitrate outside though..

      Delete
    4. Eh harlow. She is vegan lah. Do they sell vegetarian nirate-free sausages? LOL
Remember she used to eat my salads for her daily breakfast? Now she muak already and I have been feeding her with cold overnight oats with strawberries and blueberries topped with cahsew nuts and raisins! So delicious and good things don't come cheap.

    5. ooopsss.. then let me ask around if they also sell vegetarian nirate-free Cumberland sausages.. muahahaha!! and yeah, i want to try overnight oats also, but probably not until we get a fridge in the office :p

    1. I not only miss Sapporo but many other places in Hokkaido, Honshu and Japan!! this miso katsu reminds me of Nagoya.. anything meat is good to me actually, haha!!

    2. I am surprised to hear Chris liking anything miso! Seems that our taste buds are almost identical already besides kopi gao! I also love to eat meat but have reduced drastically as it is not good for my health. Vegetables taste good with right seasonings!

Wah! I suspect this SK was a Japanese in past life too! Only a doraemon reincarnated like him would travel to so many cities in Japan like Kokkaido, Honshu and everywhere!! I only covered few places unlike you SK Ninja.

    3. miso, errr, i'm just okay with that and it's not really something i would die for.. BTW, i am not the one who has been to Japan uncountable times, there is someone more hebat than me lah~~ :D

  23. C.oooh..... I love the salad! Look at the crab roe... was it really crab roe or those from ebiko sushi? I like it... the picture already tells that it is delicious!

  24. D. Alamak.... with all the fancy food then you show us KFC pulak! I seldom ate it now as it's 1000 calories and I dunno which outlet is good. You know la...the standards differs in different outlets. And, some pieces of chicken , especially original, was so small. Once I had it at an outlet and the chicken was half-cooked! Pengsan .....

    1. and the fries .. .errr.... forget it... it's wet!

    2. okay lah once in a while have some KFC is not a big deal, haha!! but you are right, it depends on which outlet also, try going to the popular ones so that you are more likely to have just fresh from oven chickens :)

      Delete
    3. I stopped eating the fried chickens now except for nuggets and occasional burgers and jelly sundaes! They never knew how to fry chicken right in our country as it's always wet and smelly. I guess the chef doesn't know how to bathe the chickens dry before frying them. I don't have complains for this KFC in overseas. Something is wrong here!!! Anyone knows?

I found all local outlets have similar poor QC! They need to get a hard kick ass by Colonel Saunders for spoiling his good recipe.

    4. oh, Anay you actually prefers KFC outside?? i have heard many people around, and including me, we all think KFC in Malaysia somehow taste nicer!!! oh, maybe we just love that smell that Anay find smelly!!! muahahahaha~~ :D

    5. FYI , the best KFC in Singapore is found in the zoo. Really different standard!! The KFC at JB CIQ also not bad. The rest ....hmmm... I better don't take risk.

    6. hahaha, and why is the best KFC in Singapore is found in the zoo?? that makes us ponder~~ :p

    7. Goodness no! You pulling my legs that the local outlets taste nicer. Now I suspect something is grossly wrong with your tongues. I tried good ones in US, HKG and Japan. The worst is along Kuchai Lama near your haven now.
Aiyor! The zoo must have sent their dead turkeys and ostriches to be floured and fried!

      Delete
    8. CB, if i don't find something nice that you find nice, that doesn't mean there is something grossly wrong with my tongue dei.. it's just different taste and preference on food.. but one thing i must agree with you, the one at Kuchai Lama (i heard this is the first KFC in Malaysia) sucks~~

  25. E. LOL....that synthetic durian soda. Initially I was excited about it when you posted it on fb and I thought of getting one. Anyway, since its just flavouring, then it's as good as drinking chrysanthemum tea in Y*os. However, Japanese being Japanese , the presentation looks good and maybe it appeals to them.

    1. yeah, I don't think you can actually "juice" a durian huh?? haha.. anyway, whether this soda is synthetic or 100% pure, I won't get any since I don't eat durian at all!! :D

We already know that exotic foods are weirdest foods that are not familiar with humanoids. They may be harmful or sinful to your health because we do not know or sure it is alright for us to eat. Exotic foods has different kinds, exotic animals like tiger meat, snake blood, bear paws, fried crispy scorpions, monkey brains exotic fruits..etc.. examples of exotic foods are the...alive frog hearts, chilly beetles, starfish nectar soups and lots more!!!
Japanese sex shops have many kinky food like edible seaweed female panties and Chris could just eat them off!!! Wakakakaka

  31. Coming back to that durian flavour drinks, I noticed a lot of the Japanese stuffs sold in the mall are mostly flavour products, at the Japanese corner or shelves. Or maybe we have more natural products sold locally compare to Japan. It may be different in the malls there.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah, i think the Japanese can make whatever they need out of something even if they do not have that natural resource.. and you are right, they have many snacks that comes in many different flavorings.. and i actually see them as being very creative instead~~ :)

      Delete
    2. Yeah they invented Ajinomoto! So they are experts in flavouring anything from junk food to kinky stuffs like edible seaweed lingeries!!!!!!. They have high percentage of balding men too due to their food. Rings a bell?

Yes I agree with SK that they are so innovative until they could invent something out of nothings. I think they had to manufacture artificial rubber after losing the WW2 and all the rubber trees in Malaya. Of course the French and Germans invented this much earlier.

      Delete
    3. oh yeah, the Japanese are really innovative and creative in making their snacks, and i must say i am very impressed by that.. just take for example the myriad of Kit Kat flavors they have, none in the world but only in Japan!! :)

  32. Durian soda? Wow.. cannot imagine how it taste like! The second picture.. the food looks yummier than the others... I can skip the fried chicken.. but once awhile I still take especially those crispy ones sold in a small stalls type...

They are so much crispier with lesser oil and no bad smell whatsoever plus cheaper!! Thank you for waking me up that I have to avoid Colonel Saunder's outlets until they buck up the poor QC!!
I tried to look for the Durian Soda last weekend at Daiso but none! Either they were so laku and sold out or being removed due to public outcry and complaints. LOL

It may taste weird to me. RM4.50 is reasonable price, may be I will buy one to taste if I see it next time.
