[Volume 9 Issue 12, #1978]
The Incident of A 20-sen Coin in Chili Sauce
My 20-sen Dropped into Chili Sauce
i guess everyone wonders why this 20-sen coin is dipped inside the chili sauce, haha!! nope, i'm not that hungry that i would eat this coin (with chili), it was there because the noodles stall boss accidentally dropped it inside.. i said he dropped it because it was before the change reached my hand, reasonable?? so, today's post is all about two questions below regarding this incident..
#1.. What would you expect the boss to do??
my expectation:
the boss will give me another clean 20-sen, take the chili sauce back to his stall and then come back with a new plate of sauce.. i don't actually expect an apology but i guess most people will at least do that, agree??
what actually happened:
the boss looked at the coin, said "oh, it dropped into the chili sauce" and then walked away, never looked back and never came back!!
#2.. What would you do??
what i would do:
under usual circumstances in which i guess most bosses would show some signs of apology, i'll said "no problem" and let it be, regardless if i am going to get back a clean 20-sen and the sauce.. it's actually a small matter really, agree??
what i actually did:
seeing no sign of regret from the boss, i picked up the coin, rinsed it in the clear soup (of course after i was done) and then washed it with soap at the basin in the coffee shop.. 20-sen is still money, no matter how troublesome, i am so not going to "donate" it to someone who behaved like him.. it's a matter of principle and not about money - what say you??

  1. The decent thing for the boss to do is as what you expected. Apologise, take back the chilli sauce and come back with a clean 20 sen for you.

    1. And hopefully he would be decent enough to throw away the chilli sauce and not serve it to someone else.

    2. guess he won't be able to, because i poured the whole plate of chili sauce into the soup, hehehehe!! :p

      Delete
    3. Yes right, that's something so common-sense to do ma!!

      Delete
    4. Or if he's too busy to replace a new plate of sauce, at least just say 'sorry I am a bit busy do you mind to take out the coin yourself?', something like this, at least you'll feel more 甘愿, right SK?

      Delete
    5. yalor, i should actually take the plate back to him and ask for a new coin hor?? never thought about it~~

      Delete
  2. Agree that this is a small matter but principles are principles. I still can't believe that the boss just walked away. I would think of taking the chilli sauce with the 20sen coin back to his stall and politely request for a clean coin and make him wash the other one. But then again, I won't want to make a big deal of it. So I guess I would do what you did - just wash the coin.

    1. Errr, gross.. If I’m that boss, first thing is to apologize, then give you back another 20 cents, and then, go get another plate of cili dip for you.. That’s my step la.. Err, but seems like it didn’t happen like we expected wor..

      Delete
    2. Ok, if you ask me, and if me leh, I will:
      1) Black face (since the food already came, and the boss will have no way to “kar liew” on my bowl of mee)
      2) Then eat my mee (if it’s good, I’ll finish it also la, since I’ve already paid), but hor, if eat pan mee without the cili dip, like not syiok..
      3) Still get up and go get myself another plate of cili dip, then after I’m done, I will rinse the coin in the soup, like what you did, then just wipe with wet wipes.. I’m very lazy to go rinse it in the sink again leh, hehe..
      4) And lastly, I will NOT patronize the stall anymore.. (Errrm, mouth say only, but if the pan mee is good, I’ll go again kua), teehee..

    3. I can’t believe the boss just walked away.. You are too kind only.. If others, like my achi achor yim3 yim4 sitaupoh, I think the boss can die already.. She will make noise and give killer stares until the boss regrets for the rest of his life, cheeewahhh, sounds so canggih, hehe.. No la, but really, I can’t believe the boss just walked off wor.. You are just too kind.. If me ahh, I think I black face liao lor.. And this will ruin my whole day.. Damn..

      Delete
    4. So in the end, ok, I will rinse the coin in soup, then wipe with my wet wipes, then walk off, and maybe “jelling” the boss’s stall and give a fierce look, teehee..

    5. LOL. I was also guessing what chilly sauce & food he ate. I also guessed Pan Mee or Lor Mee.

      Delete
    6. errr, what noodles i had is not important lah, but if you want to know, pan mee lor, hahahaha!!

and i actually should make noise huh?? probably i was shocked, because that was totally out of my expectation, that the boss just walked away.. i was trying to see what he was doing there back at his stall, but he didn't even want to come back to do anything!! BTW, from his accent, guess he must be from the "5-star Country", really a culture shock here..

    7. The boss was damn heartless that day! He earned himself very bad karma yet he lost himself a very precious customer like Thambee. The world is full of morons like him. So sad niaaaa....!

    8. hahaha, even without that incident, i have already decided to stop ordering from him because the pan mee is no more nice after he took over..

    4. Tonight I realized the only blogger that would be interesting to meet is this RealGunners. He is a crazy fella like my own mirror.

Why Thambee never gave us the address or location of this stall? This is big news that could be posted into Facebook la dei.

      Delete
    5. hmmm, it would be nice if Anay could adopt RealGunners as another Thambee huh?? :)

  5. Hopefully the boss won't "recycle" the chilli sauce like what Phong Hong mention...

    1. Even if he recycled, I am sure no one dies. Got extra supplement like 'iron' from the coin.

    2. errr, he won't be able to do so because i thrown the whole sauce plate into the soup, muahahahaha!!

  10. Good Morning Bloggers! This is horrible and sent my eye brows up in the air. For a moment I thought that Thambee was lucky that Anay was not on same table. I would have kicked up a fuss and created a scene over the 20 sen.

    1. next time i must call up Anay, at least he can make a fuss over the phone!! :D

    3. okay, next time please come with me to that restaurant and we find ways to make him drop your coins into the chili again!! :D

  11. Wah!!! So "tidap apa" attitude.

But yalah, most also behave like that. Got foreign matter in our food, no attempt to apologize.

If lucky, they just take out the item and not replace your food with a new one. :(

    1. yalah, so rude kan?? i was too shocked i guess, because it was totally out of my expectation.. i should have voice out, or at least take back the plate to him and ask for a new coin..

  12. wah that boss really "selamba"...No apology, fine! i dun mind with that.
But not taking any action to replace the coin and sauce, is really wtf!
I m not goin to buy anything from that stall again.

    1. i will still go back to the kopitiam but will not order anything from his stall lor.. afterall his food also not nice already after he took over..

  13. Hahaha, actually I expect the hawker to do what he actually did and I would do exactly what you actually did. This is because the hawker is too busy with other orders and of course won't take the trouble to give you a clean chili sauce and clean 20c. In fact I would be afraid he would take the chili sauce with the 20c inside out of your sight, just use his fingers to remove the 20c coin and then top up the dirty chili sauce and give me back the chili sauce after which if I eat the chili sauce, sure will lau sai.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. haha, so you are actually considering more than majority of us about the cause & effect before you would expect anything!! that's good, and true also what you said.. i think the best is we ourselves bring the sauce plate to the boss, and ask politely to get a new one huh?? that, we can make sure he will not cheat~~ :p

      Delete
  14. 20 cents is still money mah so of course I would clean the 20 cents and keep it lah. Of course will not leave it in the chili sauce unless the 20 cents fell into dog poo or other animals' poo then I will leave it because poo is too smelly and dirty to clean off 20 cents.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hahahahahaha!! ooopsss, i surely will forget it if the coin dropped into dog poo!! hahaha~~ probably RM20 also i will hesitate to take if it's full of poo!! :D

    2. LOL, mun this is funny! But true la!! :p

      Delete
    3. Goodness! You need lots of luck to have your 20 sen land onto the poo! What a wild imagination she has! Muahahahaha

    4. please remember to take photo and blog about it should one day your 20 sen land onto (or even sink into) the poo you stepped on the road!! :D

  15. The hawker should at least say sorry lah. So bad to just walk away and never return :(

    3. i was shocked till i chocked :D

  16. Aiyo, why this boss is bad attitude one? No say sorry also ok, should at least give you a clean coin again. His hand is already oily, he should pick up the coin and do all the cleaning.

    ReplyDelete

    1. If I were you , I would either do the same or I would ask him to give a new coin again. I would insist him to pay me back one. Yannie is fierce too. Don't play play with Auntie.

      Delete
    2. Just boycott this shop la! Share this in FB la! Let more people know and boycott his noodle.

      Delete
    3. actually hands oily or not is not really related, and i don't care what he do behind the scene, but i would actually expect him to bring me a new coin and new plate of chili sauce.. won't boycott the shop lah, will still go but then boycott that stall only.. :p

      Delete
    4. Haha, if SK were to share this in FB, sure he will become famous and business will get affected!! xD
Speaking of this, I see a lot of people post news and stuff like this into FB group everyday, some are good some are bad ones. There's a group in FB called 游游大太平, it's meant for Taiping lang to share whatever news related to Taiping, like new food stalls/malls and other berita terkini... But I think it's being misused these days, many use it to promote their products, some even post irrelevant porn links onto it. Haih~~ So sometimes, post also cannot, not post also cannot >.<

      Delete
    5. Brilliant idea. SK should create a KL Lang Facebook and Kanasai this hawker stall la. You are doing kindness to prevent more victims but then how many fellas will have coins dropped into chilly sauce?

      Delete
    6. errr, i was too busy washing my coins with water and soap until i have forgotten to post that on FB instantly!! :D

  17. Maybe bec you are a man, he shrugged and walked away...but if it is a sweet young thing, would he do the same? Hahhaaha. Gender prejudice here... Just kidding... Yes, what would I do? Like yiu, I also purposely wont give up my twenty sen..by hook or by crook...

    1. I was just wondering is that stall good business ar? You know some hawkers, if they are well known and get good business everyday, they will somehow become lansi and show the 'tak da apa apa' attitude, cause they know no matter how they act sure still get customers everyday.
Of course got good and kind hawker also la!

      Delete
    2. errr, i don't think they are particularly good in business, so-so lah, sometimes see they got no customer also..

  21. Well, I'd expect the same thing as you, or at least an apology la! But not just walked away without doing anything lo! So rude!
If he at least said sorry I'll just smile and say never mind and ask him to replace me another plate of sauce, seriously if I was in such situation I will ask the boss to replace me with another plate.
Yala that's an 'accident', he might not be doing it on purpose, but at least do something to correct the situations.
I agree, 20-sen is still money, if it's mine then I'll pick it up and clean it and keep.

    1. These days memang macam macam orang ada hor? But being a hawker I think it's important to have good attitude la, there are so many competitions out there, not just the food must be tasty, price must be reasonable, the hawker's attitude itself is also important!
If treat customers good then can leave a good impression and maintain the business ma!
Like this, small case, common sense is to take away that sauce and come back with a clean plate of sauce and the 20-sen.

But one thing I found funny is how the boss reacted, some more can say 'oh it dropped into the chili sauce', LOL! 盲的都知道它掉进去了啦!!

      Delete
    2. yalor, i really did not expect him to just say "oh, dropped already" and then walked away and never return.. i mean it's quite reasonable to expect him to give me a new coin and a new plate of chili right?? that's not demanding also right?? i also know it dropped into the chili lah, but then he has to do something since it was him who dropped it, not me.. even if i dropped, some boss will also give me a new one and they take back the chili to their stalls woh.. this is customer service lah..

      Delete
  22. Good morning Sk

Wahhh...20sen drop into the chili bowl like that the boss only "oh" and walk away ah?
