[Volume 8 Issue 11, #1826]
if you have friends from another place who come to visit you, where would you bring them around?? i guess this question, or we can see it as a task, may not be as simple as it seems.. why did i say so?? because having lived in this place for years, most of the so-called important attractions should have already been visited, or even passing by daily but never bother to go any nearer.. hence when you know you will be going there, probably your instinct will ask yourself "what's there to see?? nothing special!!", that is because you are so used to it and will never be peculiar anymore, haha!! for instance, you may find it funny that tourists tried all weird means to snap the entire KLCC towers into photos, but when you are in India, the locals may similarly find it incomprehensible that you are so impressed by the Taj Mahal.. ooopss, i think i digressed a bit, let's go back to where you would bring your friend around, haha!! in the case of KL, the places to go are no other than KLCC/Petaling Street (what??!! i could only name two!!), ah, Batu Caves would be nice too, because i myself have not been there before too!! talk about this, there are still so many places within the country that i have not been, yet i am always planning for overseas trips.. so, are you also one who travel overseas more than within the country?? haha :p

    1. True what you're saying. But come next year, there will be one more attraction to bring your nature-loving visitors - bring them to Zoo Negara to see the pair of pandas.

      Delete
    2. But then again the Petronas Twin Towers are really a sight to behold esp at night.

      Delete
    3. The last time i been to zoo negara was 20 years ago. Not planning to go there anytime soon even with the Panda coz last round i went nothing much to see and play. and the enterance fees so expensive

The one in Melaka is better.

      Delete
    4. Taiping one also not bad.

      But then hor...

I have issues with caged animals.

Safari style would be better. last time ada kan? Where was it? Mimaland kah? But wanna go in so expensive. My aunts would ask us kids to hide in the car so the cashier won't see us and only paid for the adults. HAHAHA

      Or was it in Johor?

Mind very bad cannot even remember. :P

    5. been to mimaland once then duno what happen to mimaland already

our side here the enterance fees for so many theme park are very expensive.

I went to Indonesia it was much cheaper and more things to see there.

like their safari in bogor. Rupiah 250,000 for foreigner and rupiah 140,000 for local. divide by three it's like RM75 perperson. There can feed the animal ...so many of them. Not caged. Then there is the rides park where we can go for roaller cozster ride, bumper cars...there were 24 rides. inside also have a park like sunway lagoon to play water, and also there are so many shows, dophinj show, cowboy show, biker show. ALl these for RM75 only. It's so worth it. Not like our Genting. Indoor theme park already rm35.

But then foreigner like to go genting maybe because the place is cold la. Nice to walk around in cold weather,

They say Bogor and puncak is cold but when we went there we feel like normal KL weather. Only difference is the place not haze/smokey

    6. I thought people go to Genting to gamble? hehehe

    2. I know I sound funny, but when I read your 1st question :when you have friends from another place come to visit you....", I was thinking of ghosts and spirits..

FYI, I scrolled down quite fast becoz I can't wait to read your post, thus, I didn't really pay attention to the picture..Plus, I don't know mandarin, so I don't look at your title as well..

    3. Good question today.. You know, if you ask me to bring friends to visit the town, first thing I will think of would be KLCC too.. Being them to the Aquaria, then to the outdoor park to take pictures, etc.. Then leave them to shop in the mall, haha..

Next, would be Sunway Pyramid.. Got Sunway Lagoon ma.. Haha..

Next, places like you said, Petaling Street.. Or Bird Park.. Or Broga Hills?

      Delete
    4. What about places like Dataran Merdeka and Tugu Negara? Haha, easy for me to say.. Coz I don't know how to go there also, hahahaha..

I think if me, I will stick to KLCC and Sunway Pyramid in the morning..Then have a bak-kut-teh lunch in Klang ...Oohh, and I-City in the evening, bring them visit the 3D museum.. Lastly, you can't go wrong with Genting and Bukit Tinggi..

      Delete
    5. Oh no..! Please tell me what is there to see at Dataran Merdeka? I rather visit the bird park behind where my visitors would scream on seeing the hornbill birds perched on their table while they ate lunch or sip coffee!!

      Delete
    6. I used to have Penang friends who wanted to shop at the night markets along Petaling Street at night. After jostling and rubbing bodies with sweaty tourists, they told me never again!!! Thanks to all the TV bullshits that made them believe it was like Hong Kong's night markets. The ones in HKG are bigger and so spacious unlike ours which is too narrow. I had never seen such a narrow and crowded night market like ours in overseas.

    7. Aiyo, don't like that la, is very difficult and time consuming to blog three different languages, even for two language may take almost 2~3 hours, if three language....might take half day lo!!! =]

I have to agree with anay coz if go shopping complexes, most country have better shopping facilities than ours. And their toilet is much much cleaner too.
Dataran merdeka got nothing much to see pun. only the big flag lor and night time can snap photo of the building coz it changes color

      Delete
    9. But the thing about Dataran Merdeka is, it has so much historical significance attached to it. But most visitors only care about taking photos.

Do you know that apart from the Union Jack being lowered at Dataran Merdeka; the existence of the gargoyle water fountain that commomerates Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, the existence of Royal Selangor Club, the cricket field; the Dataran (or rather, the field) was once used to dry wet currency notes by Standard Chartered Bank when KL got flooded in 1926.

It's a pity that this tid-bits about the Dataran is not shared to visitors (local and overseas) alike.

      Delete
    10. For those reason I mentioned above, I still bring overseas friends to the Dataran Merdeka. From there, I can walk with them to other historically interesting buildings - The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad across the road, the KTM building, Masjid Negara, Police Museum...

      Delete
    11. *run and hide under a rock* I also tarak tau leh all these. Only bring people there to take photos :p

  7. Good morning Bloggers! What a spot on! I was texting my nephew whole morning before I looked at this blog. He is a Ipoh born Chinese Filipino who has migrated to Melbourne but suffered a stroke during his sophomore year. This halted his education and that kid had to be on crutches for life till now. The only good thing was that it happened in OZ and the govt takes good care of him. He gets good housing, medical and pocket money to be able to fly back to Ipoh every 2 years.

Anyway, I told him the same itinerary that I always plan for visitors! Visit Putrajaya and KLCC at night when they are beautifully lighted up. I would never take them shopping!!!

    2. When they asked me if Klang's bak Kut Teh are really the best, I would reply that you can find good branches in KL. Tak payah boros petrol to drive so far to eat BKT!!!

    3. Shame on me that I still haven't visited Trengganu and Kelantan till today yet I have covered so many places in China. Shame on you SK, you have not even visited more states in Malaysia compared to me!!! Please list out the places you have not been and let the world laugh at you!!!!!!

      Delete
    4. Give me 5! Me too, I prefer to just drop them off at Midvalley, Sunway Pyramid or KLCC for a few hours, then go pick them up and "sun bin" have dinner before calling it a day, haha..

Oops, I forgot about Putrajaya.. What to see there? That Alamanda mall and also that bridge thing? Friend's wedding photos I see before la the bridge, hehe..

States in Msia which I have visited? Let me think.
      1) Penang
      2) Genting (Pahang. Considered mou? Hehe)
      3) Melaka
      That's all.

So who's more pathetic? Me, you or SK?

    5. Why don't SK mentioned about shopping complex then many palces we've been too.
Mid Vally, Sunway, 1U, Pavillion, KLCC, Ferenheit88 and so on. What IKEA? boleh tak?

      Delete
    6. Putrajaya has a lot of things to offer. But not for those who prefer to be in an air-conditioned place.

I am surprised Alamanda is mentioned. A mall is just a mall anywhere.

There are so many interesting parks in Putrajaya where you can introduce local trees and fruit trees to foreign friends. Provided we know the trees lah! LOL

      Delete
    7. LouizYee - Many people love to snap photos of themselves with the bridges and various buildings which have the most modern designs which are ONLY available at Putrajaya. At night, they look pretty to me as I seldom see such environment of Govt's Capital anywhere in Malaysia or overseas. Even Washington DC being a well known Govt's caiptal has lesser attractions.

    8. I wish to visit Putrajaya too.

    9. What about I City? I plan to go there too.

    10. For me i City is boring.

      Cut-throat parking charges after 7pm.

Got lights la. Got funfair atmosphere la.

Got all those theatre - was museum ke apa ke. Got water park also. Makan place, a bit limited.

But that's me la. I guess it can quite nice also.

      Delete
    11. Yeah all i hear dis the Cut-Throat parking. Kids wanna see colorful lights...dunno yet. Wait my hubby schedule free or not OR else same old boring holiday at Genting. Muahaha

      Delete
    12. Yeah that i-City is cut throat and still attract so many kampong folks every weekend as the lights look something new to them. Actually I had a good time there with my friends and kids because we took the train rides & bought hair wigs to camwhore like idiots. I still keep my afro hair wig! I should give SK as prize for guessing the yellow car. Muahahahahahaha

    14. I find rhat outstations friend s will wanna go to shopping complexes or go food hunting around Klang valley but then if overseas friends the will ask go KLCC snap photos not for shopping as their shopping complex have more to offer than here. next will comes to tourist attraction like the bird park , taman rama rama, batu cavesand genting highland lor. they are fascinated by the cable cars

      Delete
    15. If I go visit any city outside KL, my friends better not bring me to shopping complexes! Lol

Though I think if I go to Singapore, I sure cannot resist to window shopping. :-D

      Delete
    16. Yes Angelina you must bring your son to Kidzania. It is a very good place to stimulate his interest to build his future ambition even though he will end up become a real doctor instead of the Kidzania's lawyer. The real props and mock up is lauded to help the kids to have directions.

I always encourage visiting friends to bring their kids there and everyone were always satisfied and happy with the certs & freebies!

      Delete
    17. Angeline can bring her son to the one in Tokyo lah. With her Japanese, sure no problem help the kid to understand the intructions. It is better and has bigger facility, the Kidzania in Tokyo. :)

  8. It would depend on the friends.

    Some likes outdoors.

    Some like the indoors.

Some don't care temples or places of worship.

    Some adore them.

I usually see what their interest first before planning the sightseeing trip.

My fave easy option for KL : Jalan TAR pasar malam, Batu Caves, Masjid Negara, The KTM building.

KLCC if they like photo taking. At night.

Lake Garden is actually nice too, with a few spots to visit : Deer Park, Butterfly park, Hibiscus park, Orchid Park... Can visit the Felda house there also. ;)

Then of course, go makan lor... What's the point of visiting Malaysia if don't sample all Malaysia has to offer. :)

    1. Betul tu. Depend on what the friends wants

Like the other day Kaldip friend wanna look for T-shirt with Malaysian logo but not those petaling street quality punya, we went hunting in shopping complexes.

last time pulak wanna see our istana negara.

another friend pulak wanna eat durian so we went durian buffet in SS2

also depend on age la. If orang tua tak kan la we bring the to batu caves. Suruh naik sure kesian punya case

eh Lake garden have Felda house? as I recall they hv deer park and butterfly park. tHat was during my school days la. now a lot changed. Have to pay admission fees ka? last time no need to pay leh

hahaha...malaysian makan must eat SATAY... :p ...the other day kat Hi 5 funtion some one asked the group what they wanna eat. one immediately say satay with the peanut sauce

      Delete
    2. still free admission to Deer park, meow. Old folks cannot visit Felda House. Have to climb stairs. :-P

Go bring J to lake garden la. It's being "upgraded" now although I don't see the point of the mayor doing it but still nice la go there.

Got one time, zaini even helped a stranger, a Taiwanese tourist who sesat looking to find Carcosa Seri Negara. He drove her there some more. :-P

  9. I always have to remind myself when somebody visits, that the sightseeing that I'm suppose to take them; shouldn't be what I think is interesting to ME but what will be interesting to them, to take back memories back.

    Don't you agree?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agree of course. Sometimes it is no special to us but for them I'm sure they get good memories back then.

      Delete
    2. Yes I always place priorities for my visitors for them to enjoy the places and food which they don't have in their hometown. It is always easier for me to entertain Mat Sallehs, Thais or Singaporeans than fellow Malaysians cos nothing is new to them here. For the Singaporeans, they simple love Sunway Pyramid very much because of its Sphinx Lion shape outside! The HKG people loves Sungai Wang because it is messy, old and unique with cheap prices. They are not interested to shop in another Landmark or Pacific Place.

As for my Japanese friends, they like to eat at open air Food Courts like Ming Tien or Kuchai Lama Food Court as they don't have such big interesting eating concept in Japan.

      Delete
    3. When they are plan to come over to Taiping, usually I'll ask them what they like or wish to see or eat. Then from there I give them a few suggestion so they can choose where they wanted to go.

TM, even eating lok lok at the street side also taste yummy leh...

      Delete
    4. Yes I eat Fatman One lok-lok near my house every week!! I love to stand at the road side and celup celup la. I took my nephew and niece from England to eat there & they thought I was kiam siap! Later they enjoyed the memories!

      Delete
    5. mmm....long time no eat lok lok...gotta hunt forit to makan again. but now expensive jor leh. Eh there is one satay celup restaurant in kuchai entrepreneur park. tak tau the price la. maybe one of these days will go and try.

Not everyone will wanna stand by road side and eat. depends one the guest la. Coz some of them had heard horror story of the hyginene in food prepapration here. Takut sakit perut. we all perut besi biasa already but some will lausai leh.

and some preferred ai conditioned place coz beh tahan the heat

      Delete
    6. Aiyo meow that Fatman Lok Lok is everywhere. Just simply spit out your hairballs anywhere and you will sure see the Fatman Lok Lok's cart there. LOL

It has become a tourist attractions too for foreigners who enjoyed dipping the sticks into the boiling soups. They are amazed to see so much food and dipping sauces available.

I think since running is your passion, so travel to other states to run kira also like while going for a run and sight seeing also la. like last year go taiping for a run and meet up with Y and Y sisters.

Luckily Taiping you can have 2 nights stay here. In that extend, 1 night will be staying at the Port Weld Floating chalet for those who love fishing activity or just stay there and experienced overnight/camp surrounding by sea area.

    2. Last time, during Uni life we used to travel around together/ in group, if we have coursemate from all over the M'sia right? Don't you agree?
I remembered my friend was from KL. She brought us to Petaling Street for dinner - somehow that time was so famous with aluminium foil wrap with sambal seafood. I;m not sure right now still have or not. Then brought us to Berjaya Times Square - that was the year newly open, everyone was so excited to go in to play at the theme park. We had lunch inside the shopping complex before heading off to Kuala Selangor to see firefly

      Delete
    3. Yeah indeed another splendid seafood dinner after a long journey from KL to Kuala Selangor. Not bad right, after dinner we went to see firefly, where we need to seat inside a boat which can take about 20 visitors. Then brought us near the trees so we can actually catch the firefly. Nice experience.

      Delete
    4. Wow, that was 6-7yrs bec.

    5. Thanks for reminding me about watching fire fly at Kuala Selangor. This simple sampan ride into the pitch darkness to see twinkling lights is unspeakable and out of this world. Many foreigners were so shocked and impressed until they went home telling people how our sampans went inside Bermuda Triangle!! Muahahahahahaha

SK you must go there to see firefly at Kuala Selangor if you have not been there. Don't be so blurr to naik Firefly from Subang Airport la. Wakakakakakkakaka

My brother in law brought foreigners there 3 times and no fireflies came out. Wasted luck and traveling time.

      Delete
    6. Really so now no more firefly? aiyoyo...

      Delete
    7. The fire flis still have. Just that they don't appear every night and no one knows why. Perhaps in 30 days the fire flies would be resting for 3-4 alternate nights. That depends on your luck. Many foreign tourists joined the local tour and had to make 2-3 night trips before getting a chance to see them.

  13. So far I've been to most of the states here

Perlis - Very cute lil state. I've been to Wang Kerian, Gua Kelam, Padang Besar and Kuala Perlis for seafood dinner - most weekend.

Kedah - I've been at UUM, Sintok for 4yrs...so I've been to Bukit Kayu Hitam and some area in Alor Setar and went to Gunung Jerai as well. Kedah-Perlis very near. Of course Langkawi.

Penang - I think many of us been there. Interesting place like Bukit Bendera, Batu Feringghi, Kek Lok Si Temple and I don;t have to mention Penang food then.

Perak - It is my state. I live in Taiping and have been to several places around Perak includes Lumut and Pangkor, except Gua Tempurung. Recently visited Sitiawan and Teluk Intan. I wish I have time to blog about it.

    Selangor/KL - Got also.

    N. Sembilan - Passed by consider bo? We did drop by for lunch before heading to Melaka a few months back.

Melaka - I've been there a few times. Even Primary school got conduct school group trip to Melaka.

Johor - Another great experience I've been here. I have a few coursemate from Johor. Then I decided to have my 6 mths course training at JB together with them. So definitely around town area I can still remember until now. Then during my last week of training, the company staffs plan a trip to Kota Tinggi - stay at chalet beside the beach - having bbq at night and they even treat me with a scrumptious meal with fresh lobster.

Pahang - Genting Highland and Cameron Highland. I also have chance to visit Pulau Cempedak - Experiences Yeah I went there for internal audit purposes then my Kuantan branch manager brought us there. Here I have scrumptious meal to with Ikan Patin.

I've not been to Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak yet. Hopefully I'll go there some day.

There are some friends would love to go hiking, sightseeing then - butterfly farm & teluk bahang - escapes from Penang. Taiping Maxwell Hill boleh tahan juga for hiking. Gunung Jerai best juga, pretty cold weather up there if stay overnight.

Take a flight to Sandakan or Tawau early morning and see Mt Kinabalu peeping through the clouds as the sun rises - that will simply take your breath away. Can rival NZ scenery anytime...but of course, this is from high up in the air! Hint! Hint!

You should watch Axian's food adventure more la STP. From there, I learnt many new stuff about KL... just by him going on a food trail. I'm sure you'd like that. :)

    2. Yeah that was a shallow opinion.
KL has many areas for different varieties of food to eat. The list is long and I always have to key all the places into my smartphone so that I can remember where to bring myself or my guests to dine. I think Meow and Kaldip need to work harder and ferry STP to nore places in KL to makan.

    1. OK, if someone from other place (doesn't matter if he's from Msia or oversea, I think that's what you ask right? Hmm that also including you la! xD) wanna come visit, I'll need just some times to think, cause for your info Taiping is a small town, probably 1 day can cover those interesting attractions. Or may be 1.5 days la if includes trying the local yummy food.

    2. If that friend comes here for longer period of time, then I'll bring him to other nearer towns like Ipoh/Penang etc, somewhere about 1-2 hours of car ride. At least somewhere which got nicer and more interesting things to see la! Hmm actually Ipoh and Penang also are the 2 most frequently visited place to me la! Haha xD

    3. Actually there're many places in my state that I have yet to go also, so if a friend wanna come visit, it's good for me too! Can take the chance to explore the place for myself, hehe~ Win win situations! Of course before that I must do some homeworks first, all thanks to Google! ;)

    4. And eh, why today's post just 2 languages like usual? No BM one? :p :p
Oh, for your last question, hmm, for me, I think I travel oversea more than within the country la! Hehehe, paiseh paiseh :p
I know we should support our own country and spend here instead, but places in oversea seems more interesting, that's a fact, hehe~ 所谓外国的月亮比较圆嘛~ :p

  19. Well, it's better to visit overseas while we are still young. When we get older, we won't mind visiting places nearby.

    1. It's true also. My hubby always said that. If got chance should explore overseas first. But provided with sufficient money lar.

Actually other people lives in other country also don't really explore their own country yet. But many of them have been to Thailand, Malaysia, SG and many other Asian countries. Just like I asked my Japanese colleague, they told me that they didn't been to many places yet around Japan. Those who looking for job only will travel to other states in the country.

  22. Actually, I travelled all around Semenanjung Malaysia already. When I was in primary school. When I was in secondary school, I always want to follow school trips to other MRSM branches all around Malaysia. School trips, camping, holiday camps etc.

Not much traveling la. So unlike most of you who already traveled so much.

Nowadays, I just jalan-jalan around my own housing area only la. I realise that even belakang rumah area pun, I haven't covered much yet.

Now, who wants to explore "jungles" in Putrajaya? Come, we go together. :)

    1. I think your way of travelling is much more "indepth" coz you go to places that is not tourist attraction.

We all travel mostly go to those recommended places but you with MrSM will go to more educational places . Got student exchange ka?

Haha..even belakang rumah can discovered many new things right?

    2. exploring belakang rumah is fun to me but it's not glamorous, Meow. Like cannot show off how many foreigners I've met or how many stuff I bought or how many posh places I've been. Hihihi

I think next week we'll do another belakang rumah trip. Belakang rumah to BBWS. you're camping there for 230 hours right? :-P

Ask anay & ah boy join also la.

After finish shopping for books, we all can go for satay kajang! ;-)
