i know, i know, i am definitely not a qualified person to talk about fashion, but i think i could probably talk about fashion sense "dotted line" common sense, haha!! well, we know that in countries above the 23.5°N latitude (or in layman terms, countries with the four seasons), weather are getting colder as they slowly get into winter, what the people wear are of course clothes that keep them warm.. however down here in Malaysia which is almost on the equator, i do see people wearing these latest fashion (from foreign brands) on the street.. my first response isn't about how fashionable they are, but i am doubtful if they do not feel warm and sweat under wearing thick jacket/sweater/pullover/scarf/etc walking around with full ego under a weather over 30°C??!! i will sweat even just looking at them.. fashion-sense wise, of course i can't say anything since i am wearing my t-shirts and bermudas that clearly look a lot low-class, it's up to them to dress up like Lady Gaga or Effie Trinket in "Hunger Games".. but common-sense wise, it's apparently summer whole year round, does it pay off to put myself at the high risks of getting a heat stroke?? haha.. anyway, i think dressing up comfortably and appropriately according to the place and occasion is way more important than loudly fashionable.. call me a fashion nerd but after all, not all clothes suit all people.. remember, wear your clothes and not let them wear you~~ :)

    1. Maybe the thick clothing is meant for a freezing office because what we see is just on the street. Maybe it was me you saw. :p

    4. definitely agree most people would be wearing thick clothing because of the freezing office, especially for those centralized air-conditioned offices - the hotter outside, the colder inside.. but then i thought once you leave the office, you will take away that jacket or something?? cos it's really so hot out there, i wouldn't be able to bear myself perspiring under the jacket.. :p

    1. Jacket? I seldom wear whenI'm in Malaysia. Around office nope too, very rare actually. Office air cond not that cold. If it is cold, it is still tolerable to me. I prefer to wear sweater and knitted clothing - not the thick type one is quite fashionable too.

      Delete
    2. Genting and Cameron not that cold anymore. Perhaps Mount Kinanabalu. Remember I mentioned Gunung Jerai at Kedah, you need a jacket there too. It is freezing cold up there.

      Delete
    3. People like you wearing t-shirts and bermudas that is not low-class look ler. That is call comfortable and happy with what you are wearing. Of course according to occassions.

      Delete
    4. Mentioned about fashion with 4 seasons look and stylish design, there are so many out there, so how can we follow everything leh? Don't make your body suffer just to follow the trend.

      Delete
    5. I think you need to pick the months to visit Genting where the temperature is still cold at night especially after the rain. Even a hot blooded and weather-shield man like me could shiver a bit. Of course the massive developments by developers who raped the mountain's forest have caused the temperature to rise over the years. Some nights I still felt that Cameron Highlands was very cool and nice.

      Delete
    6. Go up Mount Kinabalu needs a different jacket already. Not only to withstand cold. Kena withstand air also. Brrr....

      Delete
    7. i'll put a jacket in office for backup, cos you know especially those central air-cond, they get colder when the outside is hotter, or colder when outside is colder.. haha!!

yes, very true, genting and cameron doesn't seem to be that cold nowadays.. i guess it's because of the global warming and also the rapid development of the places.. have not been to Mount KK but i think Lina is right, need a different type of jacket already - i heard the only place in Malaysia that needs indoor heating is Mount KK camp..

haha, i always go out wearing t-shirts and bermudas and sneakers.. feel that this is the most comfortable for me lah.. and to me, those clothes for different seasons from international brand surely may not be suitable for us here (except probably the summer and spring??)..

    8. One of my friend challenger herself to climb Mount Himalaya. Sometimes cold and sometimes hot. To do that, there's not many places to stop to bathe and so on. So gets a suitable inner wear to warm her body plus a windbreaker jacket. Such a tough challenge. She has been to Mount Kinabalu til the top and last two years, she finally made it to the top of Himalaya. All in expenses includes private plane to bring you to the foothills also cost her about RM10K-20K - More than 10days walking distance. Not many will like to do that. But she loves hiking very much.

  3. Good Morning Bloggers. We do see funnily dressed people around the town sometimes. I am not surprised as they thought they looked like fashionista society. When I saw some teenagers wearing woolen sweaters walking outside their colleges, I guessed the air con inside could be freezing then but they still wore them out to the streets where the sun was shining brightly and hot. I was perspiring profusely.

    1. I remember I used to wear winter jackets while attending classes when I was in college and continued wearing them when outside because I was still cold and needed extra warmth. LOL

Even after an hour outside, the cold classroom temperature still yet to leave my body. I must have look weird and funny but don't care la... As long as I'm comfortable. wakaka

    2. wow, so our Mak Glam is also a hot blooded woman that is afraid of coldness?? hahaha.. but i guess i would actually prefer to be in a cold place than a hot place.. hmmm, i will definitely take off the jacket if i am outdoor, but sometimes if for just a short while and returning indoor, i will be too lazy to do so lah..

      Delete
    3. Aiyoh, I orang kampung mah!

Am used to being hot. Not used to being cold.

I not like you all have lived in four seasons countries or travel so much to be acclimatised to the coldness! Muahaha

Yeah, I usually will still have my shawl draped around me when I go down to food court. Lazy to put it aside when go out walking in the mall. :P

    4. eh college air cond memang freezng leh. I pun wrapped up like bak chang when go collegue.

But then sometimes when rushing out from college i still pakai the sweater coz no time go toilet to buka.. feel kurang sopan if buka sweater in the classroom la. moreover my sweater was the tarik up type. nanti baju lain pulak tertanggal.malu la

Fuulamak....like iceberg jadinya aku. what works for some it doesnt work for me la. habis mampus aku kena air cond. MC 2 days. that time i was part time working and part time study.

So no time to change baju and madi. pakai office baju. but because office ends at 5pm and my class starts at 6pm i had to rush. this means no high heels for me leh. Am amazed some ladies can run wearing high heels. me cannot . so i pakai skirt and blouse (office attire) then carry knapsack wearing sort shoes. run to the bus. come down from KTM daya bumi thhen run ...really run...no joke to my classes in jln masjid india. orang thinks me crazy wearing those baju and running like mad. LOL

Aiyoh... sure can. Come come, practise running again with me. LOL

I no run la last time. But because Jalan Ampang so jammed, I used to walk from Jalan Tun Razak to Jalan Masjid India, in heels. Yup, still can run after bus in heels. Last time, younger can lah. No pain whe running around in heels.

Now tua already, cannot do the same anymore. huhuhu

  4. Our country still practice the Mat Salleh's style to wear formal suits under the hot sun when attending opening ceremonies or formal functions. Just look at the wedding days when the poor groom had to suffer like crazy under their coats to fetch the bride. Why can't the guys wear batik long sleeves or just Nike Singlets to fetch the bridge?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't like that la Anay.

You know you look good in suits. Letchumi also must be smiling when you wear them, once in a while.

I always think men in suits sexy.

Once in a while, for special occasion (like corporate meetings, :P) no harm what.... :)

      Delete
    2. For formal functions, I like men, Malay men who wear baju melayu. So HANDSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Beats men in suits.

But men in batik... I don't really like but that's maybe because batik shirt is always loose cutting. For those with "healthy" tummy OK la. Can hide tummy. But not dashing enough la, the batik shirt. :P

      Delete
    3. hahaha, ya lah, everyone wants to look good.. and in the perspective of most people, wearing a suit can make one look smarter dei.. unless you are a very creative person, probably there will be very rarely a person who will think of getting married wearing singlets!!

hahahaha.. wow having said so much about suits, batek, baju melayu etc.. i think most importantly is also looking at WHO wears it lah.. if you have got a nice body, nothing would be a problem.. and vice versa~~ :p

      Delete
    4. That said, Ah Boy... a nicely tailored baju can make even a dumpy person looks good.

There's a difference when one wear a suit bought at Kamdar and a suit bought from Emernegildo Zegna or Hugo Boss. There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE in price also. HAHAHA

      Delete
    5. any in suit reminds me of James bond la.

Wedding wearing batik is like...not so ngum type...feels like too simple. Once in special occassion the wear suit la. Some more most wedding being held in air conditioned place so tak rasa panas sangat la . People say once in a lifetime leh.

Batik suit more to formal occasion like meeting type la. Not as a grrom.

yea agree with Lina on malay men wear baju melayu looks very good.

But one thing i have to comment is that why cant they wear helmet on motobike on friday when going for prayer wearing baju melayu? Is it a religious thing ka cannot put helmet on head coz dity. I know before prayer have to wash body clean la. Sorry ah for this stupid question. Really puzzle about the helmet thing,

      Delete
    6. Where got such thing one Meow? Excuses only.

Those wear serban exempted from wearing helmet la... Because like the Sikh turban, it's a religious thing.

But there is no such things as cannot wear helmet to got for prayer. Habis tu, if cannot wear helmet to go for Friday prayer, means those who told it to you, cannot pray 5 times a day la... Because I'm sure they wear helmet at other times.

      Delete
    7. But some people do behave like, use religious excuse for laziness. Like as if, they cannot die la... Haiz

      Delete
    8. i puzzled about this long time already but dare not ask as yuou know some maybe very sensitive la.

Kinda feel bad for them la rushing to go for prayer but not wearing helmet . some i see got son on the motorbike with them. If accident then.....

but you are very right and i must agree with you.. it's the person who is wearing the clothes lah, if got cute face and nice body then nothing would be a problem lah.. but if terbalik, no matter how nice the clothes is also you will want to puke when you see them, hahaha!! :D

Ridiculous though they may seem - I guess those are signs of free expression...and ridiculous though they may seem, it will pass eventually though there are some not-so-young people who are probably caught in a time capsule - in some kind of a mid-liofe crisis and do not dress their age. Still, it's their choice - they can do what they want even if they choose to make fools of themselves. Nobody sees things the same way and I am sure they don't see it our way either.

Calvin wanted to watch it. So I have to accompany him then. So weather is cold and get him wear long sleeves and myself wear a singlet tee inside and zip all myself with my outer jacket and a tight jeans - to the cinema. Hey it looks so cool wearing a jacket you know.

      Delete
    2. Hmm actually wearing jacket/scarf in the cinema is totally normal la, I do that too, in fact many people does that.
I used to buy a lot of jackets during Uni time, cause the lecturer hall is usually cold, so must spare a piece or two.
Now I wear jacket when I m watching movies in the cinema, and when go oversea, that's all, hehe~

    3. If you're going somewhere during winter then should find better quality of jackets to warm yourself, shawl and gloves you needed as well. But so far, I haven't went to a country which is -ve°Celsius yet. But once experienced 7°Celsius at Japan. Brrr....freezing. But it was just a day after all. Cold weather around 10 - 16°Celsius is still tolerable. I always get my jackets which is trendy enough for ladies from MNG. Even Uniqlo got a basic type of jacket that can really warms you with 2 wears of wearing. They have a variety of colours and it is all season items.

  22. Good morning ah boy and everyone

    Wah topic about fashion ah?

You a fashion nerd? I do not think so lah.. me lagi teruk ka. Go out aje is t-shirt n jeans. Tarak fashion fashion.

Yea sometimes I see people wear so little clothing in cold weather. Can see their hands bulu roma all standibg up and having goosebumps and yet don't wanna where jacket coz crash with the outfit.

Then some pulak wear very thick clothing...aiyo see then wear like that in hot weather , I also felt sweaty for them jor. How can they tahan ah? Chinese saying oi leng emm moi meang ( want pretty ddon't want life)

Just got back from Bandung. Wah clothing there very cheap. Branded punya but they are not in big malls. Its in small shops like those in petaling street. Vhave to pandai hunt n dig for the clothing. No wonder people borong a lot when they go Bandung. Its surely a shopping heaven for those who loves to shop.

Price wise is pretty cheap. Makes me wonder is it genuine. How can genuine Levi jeans so cheap? But maybe those are rejected stock? After all these branded products are producted in indon n China right? Entah la coz I dont have fashion sense punya

But in some countries like Hong kong, I heard people there are well dress coz they invest in clothing. Property wise are too expensive for them to buy so the extra monies are spend on clothing. See tv shows n fashion shows. If the skimpy baju are in fashion, people will follow. Duno true or not coz I have never been there.

But then I think everyone should have some fashion sense la . Must wear appropriate baju fir appropriate weather and function. Maybe am old school coz beh tahan see people go wedding wearing black like mourning. And go to funeral wearing skimpy dresses or like deessed to kill. Orang meninggal la. Should be low key mah. Family tengah sad la.

The bride and groom family do it because of adab sopan lah... why must go angry at the families. Muslim or otherwise, I strongly feel we should understand and respect each other's culture.

But then maybe the person also go to work in the office wearing hot pants! hehehe

Tak kan la they dont know what is sopan and not? See in school compound already got signboard say visitor may not wear shorts and kurang kain kinda outfit to visit the school so should be same to wedding mah

hahaha...maybe that person wear hot pant and spaghetti strap and kerjanyan sit on bosses lap :p *Piak my mulut celupar!*

      Delete
    3. That's why lah...

Must be got cases where some people go to Malay weddings (the one held at the housing areas) and wear like that.

You know, later the Pak Haji and Mak Haji will surely complain to the bride's family about them. Not nice la.

I understand we have freedom and should be open to others' cultures. But visitors and guests also must mind their manners and be mindful about the host's culture.

I really cannot understand why there were people who got bengang with such requests to dress up decently.

Before school holiday, a colleague also grumbled, Her daughter's school doing a school trip ang students are asked to refrain from wearing shorts when joining the school trip. She was not happy about it. She wasn't happy that teachers don't allow her and her husband to follow the trip too.

Sometimes, I don't understand these kind of parents. Cannot just follow instructions.

Though I believe it stems from the fact that some people do actually look down on teachers la. Which is sad.

    4. could be like you said la .maybe they are jiran or what hence wore short and cincai baju but must abe sensetive a bit la. So bad la. It's as bad as singing heart breaking song during people's wedding

these parents over protective kot coz wanna follow. when J kiddy first school trip i also felt like following coz takut hilang or what. Now i just biar aje.

Why the parents want her daughter wear short? wear long pants hot and sweaty ka?

for school trip wear long pants better kan? coz kids likes to run and if fall down can protect the knee mah. No ka? J punya kiddy ask wear school uniform( collar tshirt and short pants) but allow to wear long pants la if the parents wish . His friend who is malay wore long pants to go to the kiddy,

    5. This kid of hers already 15 lah Meow. Haih

Then she complained teachers stupid for choosing KT for school trip. I understand la for Chinese KT may not have much to see. But to complain like that... The teachers don;t force students to join school trips, right? At least not at my son's school.

And of course, must respect lah. Why wear shorts?

  23. People here talk about all sorts of baju and winter clothing. Shopping overseas la... What la.

    Sad la.

    Me kamping girl.

    Dunno what you're talking about.

I wear baju kurung in Japan also. Not stylish. Kampung mari.

Wonder why I didn't wear one when in China. LOL

    Joking aside...

I agree with what Mama Kucing mentioned in her "mak nenek/nenek kebayan" comment above.

    We must look at appropriateness.

But then again, sometimes someone may want to push the fashion boundaries. Whose to say what is right and what is not right.

Today's fashion may look absolutely ridiculous in a few years' time.

Look at 80s fashion. Don't you just want to giggle?

And somehow, what used to look hideous about 70s fashion, look kinda nice now.

    Jacket or no jacket pulak...

Jacket can bukak... so panas, take off lah. Sejuk, put on la. Maybe the person wearing that time, in the Malaysia heat demam. Sejuk. So need to keep warm! LOL

    1. Baju kurung in Japan okay mah. Cultural exchange. But now (mintak maaf first ah if i offend anyone) but like the teenager dont wanna wear baju kurung anymore. Like they say tarak class and look kampung

I remembered my school days many of my chinese friend opt to wear baju kurung as school uniform look nice and most important legs wont kena nyamuk gigi LOL. yeah my school a lot of nyamuk leh. And if duduk kurang sopan also people wont see hahaha...

But one down side of wearing baju kurung in school is that you knaow la when girl get the mothlies . Those time tak perasan and can sometimes get stains. Malu that time

I agree la today's fashion might look ridiculaous in few years time. Like in the 80s people like to wear the "beggar style" lubang here and there.

One thing is that somehow the fashion will "recycle" itself over times. like in 80s baju all labuh labuh...last year the labuh fashion came back with some modifications.

so dont throw away all your baju. in 20 years time if our body size remains, can still wear those baju leh as the fashion will come back again kakaka

    2. Good thing the Melayu (and some Chinese) in my office still have no problem wearing baju kurung.

For me, a traditional and simple baju kurung is the best. No need to be so bling bling and wear too modern baju kurung also.

      Delete
    3. yup...i like the most if tailor made baju kurung coz i can ask them to put pocket in LOL...can keep my purse in the baju kurung so that tarak snatch thief.

My old office also Friday we normally wear baju kurung or kebaya, In fact got collegua also from trengganu . each time she go back marang she will borong baju and ain from there and sell to us. Think the ain and baju there is cheaper . Got silk punya.

  24. hi everyone! I'm late! better get my comments going before I sleep.
Indeed wearing appropriately but comfortably is my sense of wearing clothes. When I went to work in school, I had to wear appropriately but I hated it when we were told to wear a jacket during assembly. Well, it's so damn hot. I couldn't stand it.

    1. Now when I work in my husband's shop, I just wear jeans and t-shirt. It's more comfortable this way than wearing any other kinds of clothes. Of course, even a dress is not appropriate at all.

You remember that foxglove also can grant wishes. Like wearing them on each fingers all night to make a wish come true? Hahaha

I also would go out and look for foxgloves. Funny la when we were kids. Never think that UK and Malaysia so different. LOL

Even wore them to go out running during winter time when I was on holiday. No need fleece jackets or anything.

Buying stuff nowadays, not depends on whether can afford or not la...

Haish... My receptionist wear a Coach bag. I grumbled when paying for my 70% discounted Guess bag. So how?

Nowadays people buy and spend on things for gaya willingly and sanggup pay instalments even, for fashion items.

Cause I was almost gone crazy to stand under the hot sun and I was just wore short pants and shirt, can't imagine how she go through that...
