[Volume 8 Issue 11, #1819]
looking at this brightly colorful photo, i can't believe that i am having all these things on my dish.. why did i say so?? it's because i was very picky and those were food that i wasn't even willing to touch when i was a kid (of course excludes the bacon), surprisingly i quite like eating them now!! when i was young i didn't even want to eat any veggie, until after high school only i started to accept them, i guess maybe as we grow older, our taste buds also changed.. though i cannot say i love veggie a lot (because i still prefer meat anyway), at least i like eating things like celery/ bitter gourd/ onions/ broccoli/ capsicum etc now.. also, i heard that it will be good if we can eat food of different colors in a day, because the nutrients appear in different forms and colors.. with that i believe the bottomline is that we shall have a balanced diet as well as having a moderate variety.. hence last weekend i made this very simple yet (seems to look) healthy and nutritious "secret recipe rice dish"~~ :p
[ingredients] rice, veggie combo-pack from supermarket, streak bacon (cut into bits), fresh shrimp roe (ebiko), pinch of salt to taste
[instructions] (1) cook rice with pinch of salt to taste (2) pan fry bacon bits (without oil) and blanch the veggie all together (3) stir fry the blanched veggie with a little oil from bacon for about 10 seconds (4) place everything onto a dish, sprinkle shrimp roe on rice and serve while hot

    16. I settle for plates bought at hotels clearance sale enough la. When a hotel sells their stuff, it can be at rock bottom prices. Can get bone china wares for really really cheap price. Some of them still look and feel brand new!

I have that, and free plates also la at home. But pity lah, the sabun basuh I buy and use don't give out free plates. My toothpaste brand also don't give out free plates. Maybe I should change brand to get all this instead, eh? Barulah good value for money! hehehe

I guess everyone disliked vegies when they were young as most vegies tasted bitter for kid's liking. After having lived in US, I realised our Asian ways of cooking vegies didn't please the kids in general. The Americans loved to boil broccoli or cauliflower until very soft before smearing with lots of melted cheese. This is really heavenly for kids or even adults!

Raw veges, nuts, fruits etc. Clean eating.

maybe the Taiping Cooking Queen should demonstrate to us the enhanced version of this dish one day, sure very delicious i supposed.. :)

  14. Good day there SK!
Wow, interesting, what a colorful post today! ;)
Eh is that a newspaper below the bowl? You do that all the time when eating?
No good leh.. I know many people do that cause it's cheap and convenient, can use to wrap the food waste then throw straight away, fast and clean! But newspaper contains certain elements which are dirty to us, so it's advisable not to spread the newspaper like that whenever we are eating.
Plus don't you think eating with newspaper on the table creates a smell? The newspaper smell, hmm I don't like at all.

    1. Hmm, you sure eat quite healthily huh? Good! Look at the photo, got green, red, white, orange and yellow! I believe colorful food looks more appetizing, and the people eating that also will be cheerful and happy!

    2. And to make the food more interesting you actually added bacon! So that it's not that plain with just greens, right? At least some meat which provides carbs and fats. All the ingredients you put are my favorite! Erm except for the ebiko la, cause I don't fancy that, just feel a bit gerli :p
Even when I go eat sushi, I'll remove the ebiko and eat the rice only, haha xD Very weird and 'waste', I know :p

    3. Actually it's important to eat greens everyday! I know it's normal for people to be choosy and omit those greens in their daily diet, cause most greens are boring and tasteless. But come to think of it, we need that to keep us healthy and also for smoother bowel movements! So I am training my son to love greens as much as his mummy does!

    4. And this recipe of yours is super easy! I am sure anyone can cook! ;)
      It's oil-less also, me like!!

Okay, thanks for sharing this colorful photo! I need my beauty sleep now, good night everyone!!

    5. hehehehe, actually true also lah, not that good to place newspaper on the table.. if dirty still can clean up the table mah.. i shall remember this, or maybe use other kinds of cleaner paper, finished makan then can straight away tabao and throw.. haha!!

aiyoh, you don't eat ebiko at all?? i am okay with that woh, but i not really dare to eat those bigger ones like salmon roe lah, those really quite geli.. eih, 5 types of colors and i can say it's quite good, simple to prefer and i think everyone can eat this lah.. last time i don't eat veggie at all, but now give me and i just eat, good for bowel movements like you say, haha~~

    1. i think it was because a few of us were sharing during the uni time, so if i paid for the groceries and i don't eat the veggie, kind of rugi right?? so i just told myself to eat, muahahahaha :D

  17. I too, eat plenty of vegetables every day...one whole plate. But it is not because I love them...it is because I know I have to eat them. Yucks! :p

    2. I didn't know if boil rice need to add a pinch of salt, haha.. I think if you serve to me this dish, I will wallop the rice, ebiko and bacon only, haha.. Will fry an additional egg using the bacon oil too..

    3. About the newspaper that you use to "pou" your dish, well I have no problem with that if I'm in the office, but I don't do it at home. Becoz all the aunties in my office do that all the time.. When we eat in the pantry, 1st thing is they will "pou" the whole damn table with newspaper, then only they will eat..

There was one time somebody didnt "pou" newspaper on the table first, he got nagged.. They told him if there's no newspaper underneath, then the table will be dirty, and "sik dou chau wai hai" (makan merata rata tempat)... Sigh.. Aunties.....

    4. yeah, last time i blogged about food very frequently but now no lah, bored with that already.. and somemore, i rarely cook at home, so not really a lot of food post from me now..

aiyoh, that's just normal portion lah, maybe it's the close up or you are actually a small eater.. haha, each one a plate lah why need to "nei yat dam, ngor yat dam"?? haha!! errr, not necessarily need to add salt one lah, but if add salt probably will be nicer to go with the ebiko i guess.. or the rice if a bit flavored then also more appetizing mah.. BTW, you don't eat veggie one ah?? tsk tsk tsk.. seldom see ladies don't eat veggie one woh..

errr, actually newspaper not that good lah, the ink can smudge and chemicals all over.. if need to place anything beneath, probably use plain papers lah, but that would be not environmentally friendly.. if dirtied the table, then just clean up lor.. :)

    5. Muahahahahaha... Tell me just what does not turn on this lady who gets easily turned by men's perfumes and now food. In short she gets turned on by everything that Ah Boy blogs nowadays la.

    2. People with diebetes better say no to bananas. But for normal person, banana and also papaya is the best fruit to eat. It is rich and high in nutrients which body needs.

    3. i think diabetes better stay away from all kinds of fruits, because fruits are high in sucrose, best is to have veggie.. but i think any kind of fruits also good lah, like i always say, variety is the key, we do not want to stick to a specific food else we cannot get more nutrients.. :)

    4. Hmm correct, intake and try all kinds of fruits and veges. As long as we take it moderately.

    2. I also became health conscious lately and often ate mixed rice of just 2 vegetables with rice @ RM4.00. I need those fibers to flush out my toxic and iron away my fats. I need to get lighter before I climb Mount Emei.

Anyway, thumbs up to you, SK. Colourful veggies and you cooked everything yourself. So healthy and yummy. Bravo to you again.
