10.10.2013 | 豬仔錢罌

[Volume 8 Issue 10, #1801]
are you someone who brings coins with you, and when you are buying something you dig them out to give exact change?? or are you someone who brings back all the coins home, because you think they are troublesome, you just keep them at home forever?? i am of the former type, coins are still money, why just leave them aside unused?? they won't grow extra money if you just leave them in the drawer right?? but lately i kind of play around, i started to collect my 50-sen coins and put them all into this glass container.. just like when we were kids, we used to have one piggy bank where we slot in a few coins everyday.. when we see the piggy bank is slowly getting full, we feel very contented.. especially if we have already set a goal for ourselves when we started saving the coins, we'll use the money to buy this and that, i guess this way were are even more motivated to save money.. looking at this container of mine which is about one-fifth full, i am now more determined to fill it up as soon as possible, haha.. guess when this glass container is filled up with 50-sen coins, how much money will i have then?? $.$

    1. That's a very good habit! As for me, I simply put them everywhere. I don't actually keep them. My boss used to keep them in his piggy bank and he finally had to break it!

    1. Oh, I am like you too! I'll bring coins with me, in fact I'll 'stock up' coins in my purse time to time, hehe~ It's more convenient and I don't mind the 'weight' la! Sometimes if we bought something ends with few cents, we can give the sales person exact amount ma! Imagine buying things with RM 10.10, it's better to give that 10 cent rather to have the sales person to give 90 cents in exchange right?

    2. My hubby is totally opposite with me, he will bring back all the coins and put inside a container which I've prepare, haha xD
So like every 2-3 weeks I'll count those coins and go exchange with the newspaper man/grocery tauke, like that I can 'earn' some money liao, hahaha xD
No point keeping those coins la~

    3. And you know whenever we go overseas surely we'll bring back some coins too right? So I'll just keep them nicely and when I go travel again next time, I'll bring a coin purse along, will try to use those coins first instead of notes....

    4. I will make sure I use up all or if not, almost all of my coins at the airport before coming back after the trip.

Usually only bring back like a few cents max home.

There's a lot of cheap stuff we can buy and maybe as last minute souvenir buying with all those loose change. :P

  22. I don't collect coins, but I use them everyday. I try to. I don't keep and store them at home, but I will keep them in my coin wallet. Will try to use/empty the wallet as much as possible, on a daily basis.

But the hubs, is different from me. He doesn't empty up his coins everyday, and he brings them back. Bring them back nevermind, he never put into his wallet again to use the next day. You know what? He always leaves the coins in his pants/pockets, then straightaway throw into the washing machine (without checking).. Then when the washing machine is running, I can hear "kiling kalang kiling kalang".. I have mild OCD and I am crazy right, each time that happens, I feel like stopping the machine and dig the coins out! Really behtahan.

And sometimes, when I am hanging the clothes, the coins will drop out from his pants/pockets onto the floor with a LOUD "kling kling"... OMG, I feel like strangling him already.. Yes, again, crazy's my name.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Did I just said the word "strangle? OMG... Really.. After umpteenth times of nagging from me, he still throw his pants into the washing machine with the coins still inside, and when I hang the clothes, all the coins will drop on the floor. Gawd, I hate that "kling" sound.

Sometimes I will behtahan him to the extent I immediately switch on the vacumn cleaner, and vacumn up the coins, in front of him!

    1. Wakakakaka What a garang wife to suck up with vacuum cleaner! My wife would take them out for me nicely with a smile but anyway that never happened cos I had this habit since small to remove the coins.

Maybe you should check all his pockets before washing so that it won't stress you at all. Remember to control the situation instead of let the situation control you.

    2. Hi TM, hmm, yes, I agree.. I always let the situation control me..Yeah wor, I purposely switch on the vacumn and suck up the coins lagi, hahaha..Hmm, dunno now the vacumn dust bag got how much money liao, kekekeke...

  24. I always had spare changes and kept them for many years. I would store in all money boxes, tins and antique bowls until full. The whole total exceeded over one thousand ringgit which included some expired One Ringgit coins!! kanasai I wasted them.

After that incident I took many bundles of coins to my regular coffee shops to change. The taukehs loved my coins so much that they wanted to kiss me! I didn't know that most of them found it almost impossible to get loose coins often from the banks.

    1. Last couple of months we just transferred all those coins out. Counted and separated in different bags - 50cents, 20cents and 10cents. Then labelled the amount of those coins...Then before we bank in into our kids account, I exchanged those coins with my friend's neighbor. He sells wan tan mee in the hawker center - definitely needs lot of coins during his business. So, once changed and I'll get my hubby to bank in into my kids account. We save it for their future use.

RM360...alot leh.

Later when we wanna get souvenirs, snacks and bought lil gifts back we try to use it up as much as possible. Cos those coins aren't value anymore and not accepted by the money changer.

    6. I still remember, hubby and I during our last minute shopping at Tokyo Disneyland...lots of coins we have that time! Went to the gift shops - searching for all sorts of key chains and we bought back home. Variety of them. At one point you may think key chains, waste of money! But what we can do with those coins if bring back to Msia? At least we have some souvenirs back home and until now we still keep it. *_^
