15.07.2013 | 抗老欖油

[Volume 8 Issue 7, #1754]
a blogger friend of mine once told me his secret of staying young by drinking two tablespoons of olive oil everyday, and it's quite convincing looking at his almost wrinkle-free face and complexion as smooth as a peeled boiled egg for his age of almost half-a-century.. i recently also read an article from a health magazine, that "olive oil can reduce aging in men, as the squalene contained within can help to fight against free-radical damages on the skin".. bluergh, but it sure feels squeamish to chug that down the throat right?? furthermore the article says that we don't have to chug two tablespoons but rather to consume two teaspoons a day.. so i thought of combining the goodness of olive oil and vinegar, doesn't this sound a lot better?? therefore here comes my very own "vinaigrette" (of course i bought the cheapest olive oil and vinegar available, since they can be very expensive), good as dipping for bread or dressing for salads and taste good too~~ :p

  1. Like the durian, this too takes some getting used to. Enjoy your new-found good thing.

But then again, anything that fights free radicals is a good thing. :D

    4. Good Mid-day Bloggers! I came in early this morning and saw no one. So shy to read this topic and I had to come back later.

Looks like I should be talking a bit about my discovery on this Olive Oil. It actually started many years ago when I heard about the oldest lady in France who still cycled around at the age of 90. It was amazing for me to hear that and decided to check further on her lifestyle and diet. Her secret was Extra Virgin Olive Oil to keep her organs healthy.

      Delete
    5. Knowing that I had been a drinker and smoker during my younger days since high school, I always felt that my vital organs could be all corroded and polluted. Taking supplements may not be enough to heal and repair, so I googled further on the research about olive oil. It has been a regular diet for the folks in the West and Middle East since ancient times, nothing new to them! They probably did not even realize how much goodness it contained since our modern day scientists and nutritionists discovered more benefits in this pure oil.

      Delete
    6. I have been consuming any brands of Extra Virgin Olive Oil for over 10 years now. I would just pour them right into my throat before gulping a glass of juice or flavoured drink just to flush the oily taste from my throat. I realised that many barnds from different European countries had slight different tastes and smell. The popular ones being sold on our local shelves are from Italy and Spain.

      Delete
    7. All along, I was least bothered about the benefits of Olive Oil helping my skin as my priority was to moisturize my heart and internal organs which is essential to live healthily and longer - to my own beliefs!

      Delete
    8. The happiest discovery on my consumption of this Olive Oil was it cleared my life long chronic sinus and nasal BLOCKAGE during my sleep. I have tried all sorts of oral ways to clear them but the mucous secreted again later in the middle of my sleep. It was quite irritating and often disrupted my sleep, where I had to go to the bathrooms to blow my nose or use nasal drops for instant relief. I would suffer most if I had spicy Tom Yam steamboat the night before and it would give me blockage on both nostrils!!

After taking the olive Oil before sleep, i was surprised that I could sleep soundly like a baby until morning! Bingo!

    9. Old folks in Okinawa attributed their longevity to bitter gourd.

So apa lagi? Let's all eat bitter gourd, esp raw ones from now! Dare or not? ;p

    10. I only dare to blend bitter gourds with other fruits to detox. It is too bitter like poisons! If they cook in Yong Tau Foo, I like!

    11. Happy Monday everyone!

All those goody and healthy food are not my type of food. But then again, after reading and hearing how much it benefits our health I must include it in my diet.

Lina, I take very tiny portion of bitter gourd, telur goreng peria - will try to korek out as much gourd as possible, muahahaha!

      Delete
    12. My Okinawan friend eats peria as salad.

She is a healthy and active 60y.o.

She climbed Mount Fuji a couple of years ago too.

I think I must learn to drink bittergourd juice also like Anay does. :)

      Delete
    13. I've read from an article(I think is from a newspaper). There are 3 kinds of vegetables to consume to preserve longevity:
      1. Corn
      2. Butter Gourd
      3. Sweet Potato

oh, thank you Twilight Man for sharing his own experience.. now, i think with his comments, he can actually copy & paste them to form a complete post itself.. and yes, i do think olive oil is kind of healthy.. besides i also heard people consuming grape seed oil, flax seed oil etc which are equally good..

ah, bitter gourd.. yes, it's acknowledged as a source for health and i believe different people in different places has got their own traditional remedies.. hmmm, i dare not eat bitter gourd raw, but i have started to like this thing many years ago (even i hate it when i was still a kid).. maybe can blend in two teaspoons of olive oil into the bitter gourd juice :)

    15. Bitter gourd you can form it into juices mix with green apples, Japanese cucumber and a stalk of celery. You will never taste or smell a bitter gourd in it too.

Bitter gourd raw i dont eat la. If cooked then ok. Kinda weird eating it raw.

But I got blend it for Kaldip to drink la. good for blood pressure. Bittergourd juice can add with others fruit so that it wont be so bitter la. As salad...pengsan lor...too bitter for me la...

Eh one more health drink i saw in Facebook is the daun ketumbar (coriander leaves) says good for detox kidney and stuffs like that. Gotta detox kidney leh coz too much med in kidney not good leh.

One more is ginger ...said ginger can help with heart arteri blockage

      Ginger juice 1cup

      Garlic juice 1 cup

      Apple vinegar 1 cup

Mix all and boil for half hour, or until balance of 3 cups.

Let it cool, then mix 3 cups of natural honey.

Transfer to glass bottle and keep in fridge.

Every morning, before breakfast, take one tablespoon.

      Or

6 peeled lemons, cut into small pieces.

Put in food processor or blender, top up with adequate water, and blend.
Pour into pot and add 2 litres of water.
Bring to boil and simmer for another five minutes.
When cooled, sieve the liquid and transfer into glass bottle.

    22. Wah I saw Meow created a Tsunami here... this month you definitely are the one standing up tall huh? .... keep it up I'm sure SK is always so ahappy to see so.maby comments here...

      Delete
    23. Yes Meow is scary. This pussy cat always rested from the top of gate pillars and swayed her furry tail while watching her neighbours spammed this blog. When time is right, she would jump down and catch the rat to tear it into pieces. Anay was the rat victim many times! Muahahahaha

Now she just posted a useful recipe to share which is soooo long. I strongly agree that ginger is very helpful and beneficial to our health besides detoxifying fast! Sometimes I would buy small chunks of ginger and blended it into pulp with added water to make it like ginger juice. I would smear it onto both arms, hands and legs. I would leave them there for some minutes until dried off naturally. Bingo! My sensitive arms would have boils appearing next day. That showed that my skin had toxic beneath the skin of my arms. The ginger managed to successfully excrete the toxins out like pimples and would heal by itself gradually.

    1. Maybe all the information already exists for a long time, just that we didn't bother to know it better.

    2. Most food have their beneficial values. It's just that we consume them moderately. That's the key. Never overdo it.

      Delete
    3. It is true that most food has beneficial values too and we should take everything moderately. Sometimes it would react more effectively on different human beings, so we have to hear our own body's exact needs too.

      Delete
    4. Wenn,

I totally and whole heartedly agree with you!

Work with what you have around you, learn about the benefits. Right? :)

All the ulams we eat also have "awet muda" values. ;)

      Delete
    5. Mak Oi I hear Ulams!!! That's my favourite with sambals!! Yummy!

      Delete
    6. Yeah agreed with you too Wenn. Nothing is good if over eat it! and with TM's point of view is very true also. It is depends on each individual body needs. There are many info from everywhere mention this and that are very good. Though their source is very general. But you have to ask yourself first? can you take it?

Don't always jump to conclusion that fast. People mentioned 2teasespoon not 2tablespoon. But somehow after reading, people intend to consume 2-3 bottles and finished in a month! Imagine that! Over dose lar tu! Then sue people pula! haiz.....

      Delete
    7. very true people and i always think moderation is the key to healthy life.. we do not want less, we do not want overdose, but just the right amount that we need.. afterall, there are too many things that are good for us, we sure couldn't have them all at one go.. :)

    8. but some will still "kiasu" and consume too much .

Like many years back a lady died coz wanna diet and slim down. People told her to blend the pucuk manis /cakur manis daun and drink the juice. She drank too much and end up poising herself.

      Delete
    9. Bingo! When come to "ai sui".... all ladies for sure "bo kia si" one.

      Delete
    10. I admit that I am the kiasu one and always ate more supplements than required! I always blamed that the size of my body is so big with larger frame therefore I would need more vitamins and oil.

Do research first and properly first la...

Later results come out not to your liking, takut you sue SK for giving wrong info pulak!

    4. That would be nice to hear Angeline experiment the Olive Oil masks!!! I would never dare to do that as I am worried that it might clog my pores instead. Next day I might wake up in horrors to find hundreds of nanah and pimples all over my face!!! ARRRGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

      Delete
    5. Muahaha... kenot get rid with SK... Go find better solution with SKII after that!

If not for mask, I think it can be our body massage oil too... no research is done unless I try first.

      Delete
    6. For further explaination. Extra Virgin Oil that SK bought is a better grade of olive oil. Usually, it's flavoured a dish very well. Of course Balsamic vinegar is a best choice of vinegar too.

In terms for consuming, I think that normal olive oil is enough.

In addition, olive oil can be use in low medium heat cooking and can be mix or just a stir in dishes BUT is not meant for deep frying! It will spoilt all the nutrients and flavour from the olive oil.

      Delete
    7. Seriously Angeline,
even mat salleh, greeks and Arabs don't use olive oil for deep frying. LOL

      Delete
    8. it's all down to personal preference i would say.. i am not encourage but rather sharing what i heard and going to try.. afterall, besides olive oil, i guess there are still a lot of things that are equally good for us..

as for applying olive oil on our skin and hair.. errr, i sort of heard about those, but then those olive oil are more for cooking purpose, i won't just apply them onto my skin, unless they are meant for facial and cosmetic use.. i always believe things have their own "role" and functions lah, haha.. also agree with Anay, later my pores all clogged then all the pimples come out lagi teruk!! :D

      Delete
    9. I have been reading Method's book and surprisingly some cosmectic products actually is harmful to us rather that making our skin glow.

yea...dont think can use olive oil for mask but can use natural things like cucumber. Lemon juice dab on skin also is a natural "skin peeler". Dab...wait 15-20 minutes then wash out. Get better skin. But for me susah sikit la...coz lazy. Chinese say. "laziness o medicine to cure". LOL

      Delete
    10. Yes it is very true that many cosmetic and facial products are harmful to our skins. I go to the extend of buying the pure oils and raw ingredients directly from US to use. I will only share more secrets with HHBC only.

This is definitely wise to use cucumbers and other natural palnts to make us alive like plants! We can grow like pine trees to over 100 years. Anay is not talking craps.

And it's even better if you eat the olive itself.

      Delete
    3. Funny lah the way you mentioned it.

Because olive oil in Western Country (Europe) is not a trend.

They use it daily for cooking what. What trend? It's a way of life.

Mat Sallehs are not familiar with palm oil. That's why they have prejudice agaimst it.

And since olive oil are porduced there, the price are cheap. Compared to the nose-bleed price we have to pay for olive oil here.

the people in Mediterranean has been using olives for a very long history, it only become popular here not long ago if i am not wrong.. but who cares the history, as long as it's good, we just try to consume it moderately lah.. agree?? :)

The basis of this treatment is very simple: chew 1 tablespoon of olive oil for 15 or 20 minutes every morning. It is a very powerful cleansing treatment. Put 1 tablespoon of oil in your mouth and begin using your lips and cheeks to roll it from one side to the other. Be sure it gets under your tongue where the blood vessels are closest to the surface. During this procedure the body will release toxins. Pathological bacteria, salts, mucous, and everything the body does not need will be drawn out and absorbed by the olive oil. If your body is toxic, you will spit out a foamy white mass instead of yellow olive oil. Attention! Rinse your mouth immediately after spitting the oil into the toilet. Do not swallow it- the residue is toxic! The discarded mass was examined in a laboratory and found to contain a highly concentrated poison. Where did the poison come from? Here is an explanation I read in a Russian health magazine: It turns out that the poisons in our body have an oily base. When the blood is passing through the capillaries under the tongue it comes into close contact with the olive oil and minute particles of toxins are absorbed. I do not know how close this explanation is to what actually takes place in the body when you chew olive oil, but I have a friend who has done it every morning for many years. She credits her excellent health to this ritual. Since the only place the toxicity could have come from is the body, I highly recommend we do this simple procedure daily

  19. well as for me, what i think works in stoping aging
was to enjoy life as if, dont let stress enter your life
have enough sleep healthy lifestyle and good hygene
which is most of the time hard to attain because the world
we live in is too busy

    1. of course, if we can always have a happy and stress-free life (which is so ideal), we don't really have to bother a lot, but there are also a lot of environmental factors that could keep us aging easily.. anyway, like you said, it's our attitude and mentality that is most important :)

    2. yeah that's exactly what i meant haha,

  22. Staying young is not derived from out diet alone, we must practice good lifestyle too. Must sleep at least 8 hours a day and drink 8 glasses of water, must be happy and not sulking all time, otherwise will get more wrinkles due to frowning, kekeke!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree here. Be happy always. This is the best practice/

      Delete
    2. i totally agree with that.. it really depends on a lot of factors, externally and internally, for a person to stay young and happy.. while i may not be able to sleep 8 hours and drink 8 glasses of water a day, i guess i have to do that little extra to catch up with that, hahaha!! :D

      Delete
    3. These days it is not easy to get 8 hours sleep and drink 8 glasses of plain water daily. The manufacturers of all the world's supplements and nutritional liquids are making billions of dollars to keep us alive and healthy. So drinking cheaper raw supplements like such virgin oils could replenish many areas in our bodies where 8 hours sleep and 8 glasses of water may not help much. We need more than that besides staying happy and stress free.

    8. WhyAskWhy!!!Wokay googled and got this..

In chemical terms extra virgin olive oil is described as having a free acidity, expressed as oleic acid, of not more than 0.8 grams per 100 grams and a peroxide value of less than 20 milliequivalent O2. It must be produced entirely by mechanical means without the use of any solvents, and under temperatures that will not degrade the oil (less than 86°F, 30°C).

    9. ah, thanks for googling that piece of info to share with us Bananaz.. no wonder the label on the bottle specifically mentioned "by mechanical press only"..

    1. I agree that Virgin Coconut Oil is very good too. Here is a Malaysian article written by Sandra John to support this.

Who would have thought that a tablespoon of cold-pressed virgin coconut oil three times a day could melt the pounds away? Yet research shows that it does exactly that plus boost our health is many other ways.
Virgin coconut oil is different from other cooking oils in that it has medium-chain fatty acids rather than long-chain fatty acids. It also contains caprylic acid, capric acid, and lauric acid, all good compounds that are beneficial to our health.
Weight loss: if you’re looking to lose belly fat, you’ll be pleased with a recent study that showed women who consumed virgin coconut oil daily lost fat in their abdominal area.
This is supported by a 1986 study by TB Seaton et al in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that showed people who ate meals containing medium-chain fatty acids increased their metabolic rate an average of 12%, compared to only 4% in those eating meals with long-chain fatty acids. This helps prove the theory that the body uses virgin coconut oil for energy and does not store it as fat thus promoting weight loss.
Better digestion: many of us are familiar with the discomfit and pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and indigestion. By incorporating virgin coconut oil into your diet, you will find a significant reduction in your digestive problems. Virgin coconut oil fights unhealthy bacteria in your gut and also assists in nutrient absorption within the body.
More efficient thyroid: some patients with hypothyroidism have reportedly been able to improve or reverse altogether their condition by consuming extra virgin coconut oil daily. Although the results are not conclusive, you might want to give this a try should you have hypothyroidism. But consult your doctor first before going off any kind of prescribed medication.
Healthier heart: studies have shown that virgin coconut oil can reduce the risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis and heart attack. That’s because the saturated fats in virgin coconut oil contain about 50% lauric acid that is heart-friendly while reducing the incidence of injury in arteries.
Stronger immune system: virgin coconut oil also has antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties that aid the body in fending off disease and illness thanks to the anti-microbial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid that it contains.
Healthier skin: virgin coconut oil has immense antioxidant properties and makes a great moisturiser. It also helps fight bacteria and other skin problems including rashes, dermatitis, acne, wrinkles, eczema, and psoriasis. If you have an area of skin that is irritated, rub coconut oil on the skin to soothe the inflammation and reduce the symptoms. It also makes a great massage oil and helps in delaying the signs of premature ageing when used on your face.
Healthier hair and scalp: virgin coconut oil helps reduce protein loss during washing. For shinier, stronger and tangle-free hair, rub just a little onto your hair and scalp after a good wash. Apart from being an excellent conditioner, virgin coconut oil also helps in the re-growth of damaged hair and provides essential proteins for nourishing damaged hair.
100% Cold-Pressed Organic Virgin Coconut Oil can be purchased at leading pharmacies and some hypermarkets in Malaysia from RM52 and upwards for a 1000ml bottle. Smaller bottles are also available.
