[#1246] i love having buffet because i will get extraordinary excited seeing lots of food surrounding myself.. so i was craving for buffet the other day and went for a japanese buffet with friends.. started absolutely wild, but after two plates of sashimi and appetizer i kind of felt a little full.. and two more plates of main dishes, i went to savour the desserts.. roughly estimated how much i've eaten, not a lot but then i was feeling so bloated at the verge of vomiting..

compared to last time (when i was young) how "buffet-conquering" i was, i realized i am just nothing now, not even half of what i was!! maybe i shall learn to eat like some "smart" patrons, to eat only oysters and prawns like they've never eaten any food before, and to drink only those cheap bottomless alcohol like they've never drunk any wine before.. haha!! sorry, but i think the last two sentences are a little too sarcastic right?? >.<

  1. Sarcastic? No..... I used to stand in front of the seafood platter - crab & prawn, and eat as much as possible despite the high cholesterol :p

Young, mah... We don't go to buffet to eat, em, tamago?? Surely eat the most expensive dish on the table.

  2. I love buffet, too bad I'm a small eater. Take 2 plates and that's it! Such a waste of $$ :(

    ReplyDelete
  3. I went for Jap buffet the other day with my hubb and kids. Spent Rm100+ on the bill but I think we only consumed more or less Rm50... T_____T

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love buffet too, but I don't like paying for them! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  5. Last time can eat like there's no tomorrow. Now old already, little portion so now have to eat smart. Only eat expensive stuff to get money's worth. xD

    ReplyDelete
  6. Buffets are good for people who can eat.

    ReplyDelete
  7. in a buffet, I will eat a little of everything.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I love buffet too, especially Japanese buffet. On the next day after taking, i sure regret.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I wasn't regret for going to buffet, I was regret for not walloping enough as I tend to feel full before I cover all my favourites.

    ReplyDelete
  10. me too me too.. now a few rounds already beh tahan .. feel bloated.. so now i dun go for buffet anymore .. not worth the money liao..lol ;p

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love buffet too! But just curious, 浦飛 is not the actual proper name right? :P

    ReplyDelete
  12. Very often you would hear work smart and not work hard right. For buffet the same apply eat smart not eat hard..haha

    ReplyDelete
  13. Used to go high tea at Shangrila now Traders Hotel and it starts at 12 noon just nice for lunch. First thing my little daughter then would grabbed..one plate of fried rice. Then once bowl of ice cream & dessert that's it. So have to re-focus her choice of food haha.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Those days Shangrila in Penang offers great high tea price for children at couple of ringgit only and adults not too sure think less than RM13.00 and the promotion is on selected days only and its always packed. PLC mah..*pang lang chang* meaning cheap, beautiful and great haha.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That's normal and its human nature to choose the best or the ones that you like most. Bananaz would go for the salmon first thing first and ice cream last.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like buffet too! As you can read some of my blogpost hehehe XD

got lots of variety and multi culture kind of food, makes me think also want to eat hehe

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  19. But buffet I went no wine wor hehe, plain water or plain juice got la . . .

    ReplyDelete
  20. Same here, can't eat much anymore. 1 round...and then fruits and desserts already. Not like my younger days, I could go for a few rounds. My missus is even worse - 1 round...not even half the plate...and then a piece of cake or fruit for dessert. Such a waste of money...so we do not go anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ah.. i'm also no good when it comes to buffet these days. old dy, can't eat much. one peanut, a glass of juice is all i can take :D

    ReplyDelete
  22. i love buffet too....and must only choose those expensive stuffs to eat. BUt so long did not go for a buffet spree already......must find one day.....

    ReplyDelete
  23. Haha I know what you mean! I also can't eat that much during buffets now, so I'd rather pay the same amount for ala carte and get better quality instead of quantity :P

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hrm... you are reminding me I'm Old again, used to be able to wallop in the buffet as I had a botomless tummy... now, paiseh... as u mentioned, my tummy only can afford the seafood platter, no wine though... even gave up on certain dessert liao! Sigh~!

    ReplyDelete
  25. hahaha. Jogoya ke?

cuz the other buffet that i knew doesn't come with bottomless alcohol pun. che-wah as if i've tried them all. i mean. nooo i have not. LOLOLOL

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like buffet, especially the steamboat buffet. However my stomach manage to be filled in a little quantity of foods only. Money waste!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thambee dei...you so greedy lah! You eat so much and so round now! Ha ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  30. So many hungry fellas in our village in India. They never tried buffet before. You so damn lucky! Kamala always hungry dei.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love buffet too. The best one is at Lemon Garden at Shangri-la KL. After pay the price, I become Shang Gila!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think if you enjoy Japanese Buffet, how about trying out at ZEN @ Sunway Pyramid?

    ReplyDelete
  33. The food can be ordered from menu as much as you wish. I remembered Lifebook blogger ordered 2 full Sashimi sets and gulped all alone besides ordering other stuffs like rolls, steamed egg and many cups of green tea ice cream! He was bloated like pig!

    ReplyDelete
  34. i love buffets. especially when they serve the food fresh. upon order. ala-carte style!

    ReplyDelete
  35. sorry i got spoilt in singapore. hehehe~ alot of buffets here are ala-carte style. they only make the food, bring the food, upon order. not display it and lets every tom dick and harry walk pass it :3.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i just recently went for a hot pot buffet :D. I will post that up soon ^_^.

    ReplyDelete
  37. and yes during the buffets, we always go for the expensive ones. the lower value ones are always the fillers :p.

    ReplyDelete
  38. like if i go for japanese buffet, i will keep ordering the sashimi especially the mekajiki / mejajiki. according to a japanese chef i once knew, a swordfish can cost up to $40/kg. that is expensive T^T. lucky me i love it! hahah!

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Twilight Man : I went to Zen @ Sunway Pyramid before. I was dissapointed at their service. Being a higher end of a Japanese Restaurant, they serve everything at the wrong timing! They served the sashimi in the middle of everything, and the whole thing we ordered all came together at one shot. like er... what? Then no one refilled our teas and it was not a crowded place.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Could never understand those people who pay so much for buffet, and attack the mee hoon and yong tau foo.

Yes, I'm one of those who go for the expensive dishes and eat till I am ready to purge! mwahahahaha
    +Ant+

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  42. i love jap food too... just that it's not worth for me to go for jap buffet cos am a veg. limited choices. hahaha.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's very common here in our country you know... as if every ocassions (birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries), there's always a buffet

    ReplyDelete
  45. As a matter of fact,, there are some food shops here in our country that offers an "EAT all You Can" rule... Isn't cool? haha

    ReplyDelete
  46. I actually don't eat Oyster for some weird reason....but I remember mom tricked me one time... She covered the oyster in thick breading mix and then fried it to resemble like a Chicken... and that is my first time to try an oyster... hehe

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not a big eater too when it comes to buffet however, I make sure that i put all the dishes in my plate because I don't feel I have enough confidence to go back, falling in line again hehe

    ReplyDelete
  48. I usually filled my plate with a lot of desserts haha...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Unlike you, buffet meals make me full even before i start to eat.. i dont know what to take at times and ended up taking a bit of this and that.. as u said, eat till wanna vomit.. hahaha... get smart.. now go for those more expensive food first.. abalones, scallops.. prawns.. crabs.. hahaa..

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm NOT good in buffet now too... Compare to the first visit to YUEN with a bunch of blogger. We ate from 6pm-12am and you could not imagine how much food i walloped... until i was having diarrhea the next day.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am no longer interested in buffet anymore. Give me ala carte anytime haha!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I find buffet food lower in quality most of the time. And usually I cant eat much anyway but feel bad cos paid so much for it so force myself to eat more and in the end, stomach don't feel so good, so what's the point?

    ReplyDelete
  54. But I might be going for a buffet this weekend for a friend's farewell dinner. Looks like I need to plan and eat only those food I like best! The rest I will not let it waste space in my stomach hahaha!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. i wont call the remarks sarcastic, more like a new dawn in realization that we r wat we eat... everything eventually has an effect, good or bad and that food is one of men's most basic desires

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ yvonne:
yeah, very true, i think we could never consume the value we have paid for lah, or else how do the restaurants earn money right?? old already, not able to eat much anymore, unlike last time can stay through the whole session non stop eating, hahahaha!! now even the first hour already start to feel stuffed up to the throat.. :D

    @ lina:
hahaha, of course i would love anything that i don't have to pay for them too!! yeah, old already cannot eat much also, but even only picking the most expensive things to eat, we won't have consume the amount we have paid also..

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ HappySurfer:
haha, good for people who likes varieties too, just like me.. :p

    @ wenn:
yeah, i will also eat a little of everything, unlike those people who only eat oysters and prawns!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  58. @ Sheoh Yan:
hahaha!! very true also for that kind of feeling.. actually not the next day, but when i'm already full on the spot, i regretted i have not eaten enough to cover the amount i've paid, hahaha!! :D

    @ Danny:
yeah, somemore you are so vogiu, cannot go eat buffet lah, sure spoil your image one.. you must go to fine dining a la carte lor~~ :p

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Hayley:
hahaha, of course 浦飛 is not the actual name, the actual one should be 自助餐.. 浦飛 is just a direct translation of buffet~~ :p

    @ Bananazஇ:
hahaha!! what?? your daughter must never go to buffet again.. paying RM100+ for just a plate of fried rice, one scoop of ice cream and a piece of dessert?? haha, that's ridiculous!! she can just go anywhere to have that right, and maybe at less than RM10.. hey, i still remember my very first buffet was at Holiday Inn at Jalan TAR, just nearby my primary school.. it was our graduation day, and a gang of us just went there to have buffet, and children 12 and under were charged half price, and i still remember we just pay RM7 and ate a lot, covering every dish they had!! that's a very nice experience to me..

    ReplyDelete

    @ Kian Fai:
hmmm, that's exactly why i love buffet.. because of the variety and the whole spread of food in front of my eyes!! just can eat as much those i rarely can eat, haha.. but then found out that i cannot really eat a lot nowadays, just two three plates and i started to get bloated.. oh, i went to Jogoya and they serve wine, but of course i didn't take any.. because if you keep drinking, you get bloated more easily~~

    ReplyDelete
  61. @ suituapui:
haha, are you sure you only go for 1 round and then end up with desserts?? maybe your 1 plate is equal to my 3 plates, haha!! i just like to eat a little bit of everything, i won't take much, always one piece or just one scoop to taste.. other wise how could i have the quota to taste every dish right?? yeah, i think we can never consume the amount we have paid, sometimes so not worth it i think..

    @ Merryn:
what?? only one peanut and a glass of juice?? then you better not go any buffet lah, you don't even consume RM5, but you are paying RM100+.. anyway, i think you only go to buffet on invitation, so that's ok lah..

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ iamthewitch:
yeah, buffet food quality of course is lower than those a la carte.. but one thing i love about buffet is the variety, i can sample a little of everything, haha!! but then seldom go buffet now lah, i know my weakness, cannot eat much and just not worth to pay that much..

    @ Alice Law:
haha, i think we all are old already lah.. eating less and less nowadays.. so now if ever go to buffet, must really eat carefully.. just a little bit of everything so that can taste all the dishes as much as possible.. haha!! hmmm, good, seafood are always the ones most people sought after right?? smart, haha~~

    ReplyDelete
  63. @ Medie007:
yeah, i went to Jogoya, but of course i didn't drink the wine.. sure not good quality and then drinking too much will make you feel bloated more easily, so better eat more food than drink, hahaha..

    @ imyuyu:

    ReplyDelete
  64. @ Matthew Gan:

    @ Wai Kitt:
hahaha, steamboat buffet?? i remember been there once only.. actually the only reason i love about buffet is because of the variety and free form, but then never could have consumed the same amount of money we have paid lah.. so rather, go for a la carte for better quality..

    ReplyDelete
  65. @ Twilight Man:
Arumugam, Thambee only once in a blue moon goes to buffet, and also bringing Kamala along!! unlike Arumugam going to high class Shangrila but dump Letchumi at home eating her plain chapati.. oh, have not been to the Lemon Grass (not Lemon Garden right??) at Shangrila, Thambee been there like 10 years ago and it was good!! that time it was RM85 per person, more expensive than average but Thambee also like that, very nice food.. so is it still as good now?? have not been to ZEN, looks good we order the food instead of getting them ready cooked on the shelf.. wow, but when Thambee goes to buffet, never will eat rice or sushi, that will make you feel bloated easier nia..

    @ ladyviral:
oh yeah, i think the ala-carte style will be a lot better, at least things should taste better and fresh compared to those readily cooked and laying there on the shelves, haha!! but now that we also have those cook on the spot, but i find the standard drops too, because i think they prepared the food and somehow just slightly complete the cooking process and serve you, not really good as it taste like they are precooked and served on the shelf.. haha, yeah, now i try to eat those more expensive food besides a little bit of everything lah, cos i just love variety.. oh, Zen is not as good like Twilight has mentioned, hmmm, thanks for the point.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. @ Gratitude:
hahaha, but cannot blame them everyone does have their own preference.. some people just love rice beehoon and YTF but cannot take sashimi and oysters, haha!! anyway, i sure think you can eat more than what you have paid.. :D

    ReplyDelete
  67. @ kyh:
haha, if you are a vegetarian then no point going to buffet lah.. but i'm curious, do those vegetarian restaurants ever offer any buffet?? haha..

    @ Chris Chia:

    ReplyDelete
  68. @ bluedreamer27:
yeah, i think that's the consumer behaviour and preference.. when they see all you can eat, they will be attracted.. although we all should know what we can eat can never be more than what we have paid.. but i guess we just pay for the varieties of food and the free form of eating.. haha, you don't eat oysters?? both raw and even cooked?? so how did you find that oyster trick from your mum, taste good?? haha.. i hope you didn't puke when you bite that.. yeah, getting old and i think i can only eat less, so really not very worth to pay for buffet and just eat a little.. unless we go for expensive food and they are good in quality.. hmmm, i am also a dessert person, will also have ended up with two plates~~ :D

    @ reanaclaire:
hahaha!! make you full even before you started to eat?? i also will eat a little bit of everything, maybe one piece of this and one scoop of that, never take more, else how can i have the quota to savour everything that is offered right?? haha, but you are right, sometimes just regret we didn't eat enough of those expensive food right?? haha :D

    ReplyDelete
  69. @ Casendra:

    @ TZ:
haha, you are not as good like you were.. but i think you are always better than me at least, haha!! wow, so you've been eating only prawns for that 6 hours?? i guess easily over 100 pieces of that?? haha.. but not worth to suffer from diarrhoea the next day just for the sake of eating right?? :p

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ foongpc:
hmmm, i'm still ok with buffet because i just like the varieties and free form of eating, haha!! you are right, of course the buffet food quality is not comparable to the a la carte at all, but it's more to the process of enjoying the freedom especially with a gang of close friends spending hours chatting while eating.. oh, buffet for you this weekend?? good luck and i hope you're able to eat as much as you can without feeling too bloated.. and remember, focus on the expensive things, haha!! :D

    @ Bengbeng:
haha, true, because everyone has their own preference on food.. some just cannot live without rice and noodles but cannot eat any sashimi and oysters.. some just think eating rice will bloat and not worth the price, so go for more expensive food that will not stuff up too much.. it's all about tactical if not sarcasm?? haha.. :D

    ReplyDelete
  71. I always went with an empty stomach, but always full after 2 plates...buffet is not very worth the money for me XD

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  73. well, in singapore i guess they can't do like that.. i mean the fact of pre cooked and then finish the process and serve us. but of course dim sum maybe yes. but so far, i have eaten those with fresh food. will blog about them soon ahaha! got to upload the pictures first :p. you would probably love it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love buffet though we're watchful of our diet here... foods aren't really taht healthy

    ReplyDelete
  76. i also love buffet because we can eat anything at any amount we love, and like you said, the varieties make me crazy!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  77. but then that was years ago, i think i cannot eat much now also, old already, hahaha!! a little bit of everything is already enough to make me bloated XD

    ReplyDelete
  78. but then i think buffet is a nice thing to get friends together, chat while eating for few hours.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. @ Kelvin:
yeah, i also try to go there with empty stomach too, but still cannot eat much because will start to get fill after a couple of rounds.. haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. @ ladyviral:
yeah, that should be the way, cook everything from fresh and then serve to order.. i like it this way.. but then most of the buffet here are trying to put everything cooked and "wow" you.. but i think slowly some are going to the cook to order concept already..

    @ edward:

    ReplyDelete
  81. @ Ayie:
haha, when i go to buffet i've already prepared to throw calories and diet away, i just want to enjoy nice food and pamper myself over the dinner.. :D

    @ victor:
yeah, it's the variety and free flow that attracts me to a buffet, i just feel myself freed to eat anything i like and as much as i could.. but sadly, as i grow older, i really realised i cannot eat much already, most of the time, paying the money that i couldn't even consume half the value of food, haha!! maybe it's time to say goodbye to buffet already?? :D
